681  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 11, 2017, 10:31:47 PM
Good bowling by WI bowlers again in the second innings but the fielding has been consistently poor . NZ lead by 302 and it's still the 3rd day so they can atleast score 400  .
It is New Zealand match, West indies looks like very an ordinary test team, chasing 414 is highly impossible task for them already they have lost 2 wickets, so 4th day play is just a formality for New Zealand to complete the victory. New Zealand at home conditions very difficult to beat with quality of players in the side.

I don't think West Indies can last 6 sessions and manage to draw this match. Batting last is always a challenge, and when you have a target of 414, it adds to the pressure. West Indies have already lost 3 wickets. I think New Zealand will wrap this match with a day to spare. Against West Indies, it is no longer surprising.

Bitcoin price could exceed $100,000 by 2018, says trader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTeX1HW--4Y

What do you think?

He could be right, 100k isn't a huge jump from where we are right now, it may seem like it is a long way away but it's only 6x the price. 50k Will be a big hurdle to overcome and then 100k. The question really for me is, will bitcoin crash before reaching 100k. I do not see any scenario in which the price stays stable under 100k. It will either reach 100k or it will crash beforehand but if it doesn't crash in the next 1-2 years then 100k will happen almost for sure.

A 6x jump in any asset class is a huge increase. You should also note that Bitcoin's price has increased by 15x this year. Lightning usually doesn't strike twice at the same place in quick succession.
These kind of sound bites give the trader some quick and cheap publicity, nothing more.
683  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-11] Chicago Exchange crashed by Bitcoin on: December 11, 2017, 10:14:38 PM
i agree, there must have been a serious rush to get on the futures train to crash the site.

did they underestimate the volume of traders wanting to start futures trading before CME launch?

The actual trading volumes was not very high. It was a few thousands. I doubt if that is sufficient to get the website to crash.
Moreover, a lot of brokerages haven't offered clearing for Bitcoin futures. So the crash seems highly suspicious to me. Thankfully, no harm done.
684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 10, 2017, 09:05:10 PM
Just because of Dhoni the team managed to put up a score of 112 else it was tough to even cross 100 in the beginning. SL on the other hand played beautifully and scored the runs before the 21st over. Can't blame Dhoni but Virat too wouldn't make a huge difference when the team is not playing well. Pandya's bowling was the worse and eh went for 7+ runs per over including Kumar and Bumrah.

Marvelous and destructive bowling by Lakmal, also the rest all bowlers. Sri Lankans just washed them. Worst performance by a team of this level.
Dhoni was really trying to save the sinking ship, but alone its impossible. Was a good game of cricket of course. I feel sorry for the people and friends who made a bet on this game upon India, a truly unexpected result.

Sri Lanka have played dismally in one day internationals before this match. Nobody gave them a chance and bookmakers would have given you good odds if you had bet on them winning. People who bet on India thinking it is a sure win should rethink their strategy.
What really matters is the odds that the bookkeeper quotes.
685  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are banks putting up with crypto trading? on: December 10, 2017, 09:02:28 PM
In the UK no crypto business has a bank account. I think this is primarily because there's no regulation so they can't be arsed to try and interpret laws that might bite them on the arse in the future. There's also the likelihood that they don't like crypto too of course.

In other places I assume it's kind of similar yet there are enough places that do have banking.

Many of these banks must now be taking in and sending out billions per year in crypto business. Considering the ball ache and potential future implications, why are they still tolerating it? It's business of course, but there's plenty of other business out there that's less trouble.

Whether we like it or not, Bitcoin and friends at present is largely dependent on company banking. They know perfectly well they can put a lid on it by cutting off bank accounts and your average exchange has no leverage over them. Why isn't it happening more often?

Are you talking about banks closing accounts of customers who have any links to bitcoin? That is not usually possible, because they probably wouldn't know. It is one thing to find out that a business involves cryptocurrency, another to detect that one transaction of a customer could have a cryptocurrency link.
They already have their hands full trying to catch the money trail of terrorists and money launderers.

No, they go to IOTA instead which is much "cheaper" at only $x.xx.... without caring that it is a coin that has delivered NOTHING of what is suppossed to do. Have anyone seen where is that code that would run on microcontrollers? I have been trying to find sources for Arduino to no avail.... well, in fact, no source for any microcontroller at all. Not even beta, or alpha, or a fucking draft.... NOTHING.

That's because people are idiots.  The same idiots don't buy bitcoin because they think they have to invest $13k to get one.  Same for the stock market.  You don't have to buy a full share of Google.
I don't think those are the kind of people that should be buying into crypto anyway.

Sorry to nitpick - but can you buy a fraction of a share? You cannot, at least in my country. The smallest unit you can buy is one share. So the fact that virtual currencies are almost infinitesimally divisible is an advantage.
Companies come out with bonus shares and share splits to overcome the disadvantage that you cannot buy a fraction of a share. This improves liquidity of those shares.

new wallet. wow thank you. i like this coins because:
1. no drama
2. dev delivers and delivers and delivers.

the problem is that if there would be more drama the coins would get more attention....

and i can't send via e-mail

its just crazy shit!

It only means that your home hub is not reachable at the moment either your hub is down or there is a network problemen in between your hub and your wallet (no drama here indeed).

I am getting the same error. Is it something to do with the wallet upgrade?
Are there multiple options to change the hub? When I look at the preferences, there is only one option - byteball.org/bb
688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will upcoming bitcoin futures affect the market? on: December 08, 2017, 06:23:01 PM
I posted this as a topic so sorry if against rules for double post. Feel free remove. Just trying help.

We need to spread the word and F Wall st.

Futures are going to start trading on it Sunday night. These futures are cash settled. This means they are not connected to BTC in anyway. Like 0.0000%. They are just trading fiat aka making fiat bets on BTC's actual price. So they have endless fiat dollars to short their futures down to $0.

But here's there beauty. If tons of us stay HODL and completely ignore the futures price, futures price can be down 50% and BTC on say coinbase can be plus 20%. This would be all over the evening news and expose Wall St. for the sham it is.

Spread the word.

Example: Someone makes a billion $ bet BTC will be $5,000 Dec 31st. They are trying to effectively short BTC. If BTC on coinbase/exhanges is $10,000 on Dec 31st. This person who made the bet just has to pay the difference between $5,000 (their bet) and BTC physical price of $10,000. So they owe $5K in fiat.

It's a way to manipulate a currency/asset etc, because people think the futures is an actual price or indicator. It is neither, it is a bet is all.If everyone stayed HODL, Wall. St. would get destroyed.

If the futures price is $5k and the spot price is $10k, I will sell my Bitcoins in the spot market and buy in the futures market. When the trades are settled, I will buy again in the spot market, netting a neat profit. Millions of others will do this. This is one reason why your strategy won't work.
689  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin will hit $500K in 3 years on: December 08, 2017, 08:40:30 AM
John John McAfee's previous recommendations was true.

$8000 Bitcoin is still affordable - BUY it (NOW BTC $16.000)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuaSg9RaTAg

John McAfee: Why Bitcoin will hit $500K in 3 years (Full interview)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epObQ1AujyQ

John McAfee has revised his prediction. His expectation of $500k in 3 years was based on the assumption that Bitcoin will reach $5k in 2017. When Bitcoin crossed $10k, he revised his prediction to $1 million in 2020. He even promised to do something obscene if it didn't happen. Looking at the way the price is going, he could be proven right.
690  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy low and selling high on different exchanges on: December 08, 2017, 08:33:30 AM
There are significant differences in pricing on various exchanges. What is to stop someone from buying at a low rate on one exchange, sending it across into another exchange and dumping it for a profit?

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#markets

Can someone please explain the catch?

In most cases, the difference is not high enough to cover the transaction fees and the hassle of doing the arbitrage transaction. If it is very high, then capital controls will usually be in place. You can sell your Bitcoins for a very high price in Zimbabwe, but there is no way you are getting the money out from there.
691  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-07] Steam announced that it will no longer accept Bitcoin as payment on: December 07, 2017, 07:30:01 PM
Steam, the popular online gaming service, has announced today that it will no longer accept Bitcoin as payment. The news comes barely six months since it made the decision to start accepting BTC.

Valve, the studio that runs steam, made the decision because of the volatility of the currency and the escalating transaction fees associated with Bitcoin trading.

Source: https://coinblip.com/blog/steam-stops-accepting-bitcoin/

This is an unfortunate reality. Huge transaction fees have made most day to day transactions unviable. if you are moving a million dollars, then it does not matter. But for most daily transactions, credit card fees are lower. Hope scaling issues are sorted out with the development of secondary layers like the lightning network.
692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 07, 2017, 08:03:37 AM
Well that ended quickly in the 2nd test between Australia and England. Australia destroyed England after England looked good last night and I thought they had a big chance to win this test match. Australia deserved the victory as they were on top from day 1 and showed once again that they are very tough to beat at home. Now it will be very tough for England to get back into this series but if they ever were going to get back into it, then the next test match in Perth is the place to do it as England do seem to play well on that pitch.
Never easy to chase 300 plus target in the 4th innings, England had their chances but they did not use the opportunity. Australia are very tough side to beat them at home, Hazelwood bowled extremely well ensured the victory by taking important wicket of Root.

Yeah true, If England were going to win the match they needed Root to carry them through. He was their key man to success but when he fell the match was all over. England can turn the series around in Perth with a win but it will be tough coming back from 2-0 down in the series. I will say that they have been in both of the matches at certain stages but couldn't make them count.

If you depend on only one or two players performance to win the matches then you can't win most of the matches because it is a team game. Yesterday England had a good opportunity win the match but they only wasted this opportunity. I expected better batting from England players but they failed to do it. They still had 6 wickets to score just 170+ runs but couldn't do it.

But in another match, SL did better than expected because no one was thinking that they can play whole day but they did it and draw the match.

It was good that Sri Lanka gave a much improved performance in this test match. A lot of people thought that their complaining about the pollution in New Delhi was just theatrics because they couldn't compete. Their batting performance was strong in both the first and second innings and India could't force a victory.
693  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-06] Bitcoin Rockets Past $14,000 Astonishing Everyone on: December 07, 2017, 08:01:00 AM
The price of bitcoin has once again reached a new price high on December 6 touching $14K across exchanges worldwide. The value touched an all-time high of $14,047 and quickly dropped to the $13,500 range shortly after. At the moment order books across exchanges are going wild.

The bitcoin price locomotive continues to truck upwards and steamed past the $14K region on December 6. Bitcoin’s value had touched $14,047 per BTC at approximately 8 pm EDT. The price already reached the $13,000 region earlier in the day for the first time. The currency has increased by 20 percent from the start of the day’s trading sessions and currently commands a record global trade volume of over $13Bn over the past 24-hours. At $14,000 per BTC the decentralized currency captured a massive $235Bn market capitalization.

And we don't seem to be done yet! The price has shot up to $14,800 in less than 12 hours after crossing $14,000. People who predicted $20,000 in 2018 might have to revise their projections if it is attained in 2017 itself.  Grin
Bitcoin futures start trading in a few days time. Let us see how strong the short interest is.
694  Economy / Speculation / Re: $11k? Too fast or just hyped? on: December 05, 2017, 09:18:13 PM
Are you worried with the current pace of the rise in pricing of Bitcoin? Is it too fast? Are we expecting a dormant Q1 of next year? Any speculation? Share your thoughts below.
I would not say I am worried and at the same time, I may just say it is getting interesting and more confusing by the day. A lot of us expected a correction to come at $10,000 and it did after touching $11,000.

Bitcoin has shown us all some pretty crazy surprising bull run and the slowing down with the recent little correction may be concerning as to understand where the bull is actually headed right now. As it is, we just have to keep looking where it is all going to be headed.
I also thought that we will see a correction at 10000 and  that did not happen it seems the rise in price is a lot stronger than I thought, since we need to take into account that probably many people sold at that price and that many others like us thought there was going to be a correction and did not invest in bitcoin anymore and yet it reached 11k and now we are close to 12k.

We crossed $12,000 during the day. You might have missed it.
Why are people waiting for a correction? To buy more? I think in the long run, it doesn't really matter when you bought.
Just buckle down, get invested and wait out the short-term volatility.
695  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good idea to short here. on: December 05, 2017, 08:23:57 PM
I'm not a professional but looking at the charts especially long term charts, it looks like we're due for a huge correction. My bet is we will see a sharp drop to $5k-$6k, just not sure if the whales will push it a few thousand higher before having their positions ready?

I just can't imagine why anyone would want to buy at this price.

A lot of 'professional' short traders have been routed in the Bitcoin market place. If you are purely basing your views on the charts and ignoring the underlying potential for Bitcoin, you are making a mistake. The network effect, scarcity of bitcoins and FOMO might result in your capital getting wiped out.
696  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-06] South Korea Launches Cryptocurrency Task Force to Spearhead Regulat on: December 05, 2017, 07:57:21 PM
All governments start with the 'protecting investors' agenda, but end up somewhere else. South Korea has banned ICOs already, but has largely left cryptocurrency markets untouched. It would be interesting to note if the proposed regulations stifle the market.
697  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-04] Demand for Bitcoin Jobs Surging as Price Continues to Climb on: December 04, 2017, 09:53:51 PM
The advent of the cryptocurrency is creating incredible new opportunities in finance, business, and industry. As a result, the demand for Bitcoin-related services is growing exponentially, which in turn is driving the creation of thousands of new jobs.

Continue reading here:

The question is whether this is sustainable. With lots of money flowing into ICOs, there could be a spike in demand for people well versed with Bitcoin. But you cannot assume that this will continue in the medium term. Not many people are going to make careers in Bitcoin.
698  Economy / Speculation / Re: Futures leading to ETF and direct hedge fund exposure? on: December 04, 2017, 09:50:38 PM
Wondering what you all think will be the effect of the futures market on the adoption of Bitcoin in Wall St, including the time scale.

Two of the planned three Bitcoin Futures markets are starting in the next two weeks. One $100 billion hedge fund in I believe the UK has already said they will start offering direct exposure to Bitcoin once futures go online. Many financial experts expect that futures will lead to the SEC accepting Bitcoin ETFs.

Futures are a sideshow that won't affect the market. The real thing we want is direct exposure through ETFs and hedge funds. Do you think futures will lead to this and how long will it take until we have a bunch of hedge funds and approved ETFs operating in Bitcoin?

Yes. The Winklewoss twins are already making a move on Bitcoin ETF. The trick will be to link it to Bitcoin futures, which are a regulated product.
Once ETFs come into the picture, institutional investors as well as mom and pop can invest in Bitcoin through their brokerage account. This comfort will lead to demand taking off.

700  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Bets His Manhood that BTC will reach $1 mil by 2020 on: December 03, 2017, 06:44:09 PM

Even if he believes in it, I think making this kind of wager is extreme. There are multiple other ways to emphasize your confidence.
$1 Million does look extreme. He has revised his prediction of $500K by 2020 to $1 million by 2020. And he has done this based on Bitcoin's strong rally in 2017.
