801  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC under 4K? on: October 29, 2017, 10:36:02 AM
One possibility is if a major country like the US or Japan introduces cumbersome regulations for Bitcoin. A lot of the price gain has been due to optimism about Bitcoin's future prospects. If that takes a hit, Bitcoin might come down.
802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you diversify? on: October 28, 2017, 08:48:55 PM
I would like to divide this question into two different ones:

1)   Do you have your investments diversified in general and don’t only hold bitcoin? I mean if you also have stocks, funds, bonds, metals, participations in businesses etc.

2)   Do you hold only bitcoin or do you also hold other cryptos?

My answer is yes to 1) and not yet to 2) but I will.

The answer to 1 is more important than the answer to 2. Most alts have a high correlation with BTC, so holding different alts won't give you any benefit. The correlation of bitcoin with other assets is low, so it acts like a kind of hedge.
803  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Bitcoin will implode"... on: October 28, 2017, 06:24:08 PM
he is just trying to take price down to buy more bitcoin. that what they do for years on stocks. But this is Bitcoin community and they can't play like stocks.

May be stocks are all what he understands. Smiley It is interesting that all these attacks come from the establishment guys, the guys who have the most to lose if Bitcoin is successful.
804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: October 28, 2017, 06:22:03 PM
I'm sure there will be a draw between these two teams. But Tottenham looks much more convincing. On the other hand, Manchester United is playing at home today.
I am not so sure about it but I am sure that it won't be more than 3 goals this match . If Kane was participating it would have been much more interesting and I would have bet on draw but now I will go for under 2.5 goals .

You got your bet right. The final scoreline reads 1-0 in favour of Manchester United. For the first 80 minutes of the match, Tottenham were able to hold Manchester United. But the substitution helped them edge ahead.
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you value Bitcoin ? on: October 28, 2017, 07:49:51 AM
If even the Dean of Valuation, Aswath Damodaran, cannot value Bitcoin, you are better off not trying. Hold it for the long-term and let the market discover its value. That is the best strategy, I feel.
806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Choosing Altcoin on: October 28, 2017, 07:46:57 AM
how can one choose which altcoin is the best and why are there so many altcoins.

Try and avoid ICOs, especially the ones that are big on hype. If you plan to hold for the long-term, you can look at established coins. Look at the ones with proven development and which have a community backing.
807  Economy / Speculation / Re: Difficulty jumps 21% on: October 28, 2017, 07:43:23 AM
A huge leap. Is this 'organic' or is it somehow part of the 2x plan to kill off the old chain with a fatally elongated readjustment period?

What do you think?

I don't think it could be part of the Segwit 2x plan. This would increase confirmation times and time to find new blocks, but it wouldn't kill the old chain. As others have said - I think it is market related. New mining capacity coming in and miners moving from BCH.
808  Economy / Economics / Re: Investment amount on: October 27, 2017, 08:08:42 PM
Investing in bitcoin is literally just like savings, it could be any amount as much as you can afford but small amounts may take longer time to earn you profits.
Assume that you invest £50 right now in bitcoin at the market price of $600/bitcoin, now when bitcoin rise up to $12000, your investment gets doubled to £100.

The tough part is that people don't want to make £100 from Bitcoin. They want to retire on it. And it is not possible to do it (at least now) with small investments. Even if by a small chance Bitcoin goes to $1 million, your £50 investment would only be worth around £10,000. That is good money, but not enough to retire on.
809  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: October 27, 2017, 08:04:07 PM
Another big match on tomorrow match, Manchester United vs Tottenham. The teams who win on this match will go to the 2nd top team. Once again Man United without Pogba which is really bad for man united and Tottenham is on top performance. I know they just lose on cup match but they can focus on premier league now.
I believe both teams will play openly because the two teams that will face each other should be able to keep even improving his position in the standings to keep the chance of competing for the Premier League title this season.
probably Tottenham without Kane and Pogba still can't be played for Manchester united and this is second met for Tottenham against big teams after defeat Liverpool i wondering if tottenham able to defeat Manchester United and if they're able to do that they should be considered as the title contender besides Man Utd and Man city

It is not at all going to be easy for Tottenham. Harry Kane is not going to play in the match because of an injury. Plus Manchester United have history on their side. In the last 30+ home matches against Tottenham, they have just lost twice. That says a lot!
810  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bubble or Not? on: October 27, 2017, 08:00:54 PM
Bitcoin to me does not seem like a bubble but perhaps we are all biased because a large portion of the people in this forum are firm believers in bitcoin. The ones we need to be concerned about are the people who invest with little or no knowledge of bitcoin and expect a smooth ride to the top, they are the ones who will get nervous at any negative signs and could cause a crash in the price. As long as there are more of us believers and less of them then we should be fine.

You need all sorts of people in a market, to give it liquidity. If everybody was a long-term holder, the market cap would have only gradually risen. The hot money flowing through Bitcoin is what causes this volatility. It might result in a bubble, but this is a feature of every asset class.

812  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-26] People are 'underestimating' the 'great potential' of bitcoin on: October 26, 2017, 09:56:20 PM
They can say all they want, but I don't think we are under estimating bitcoin. Not today, specially the price is soaring and picking at great numbers. IF people would still have doubts about this market and the  power it can bring to different people, then they will be very much late when the prices really goes to the moon next year. No matter what kind of negatives you say about bitcoin, people are still buying it because they believed that the price can go higher, making it a good investments for all of us. Gold has its own place, and we don't need to compare the two. Michael Novogratz claimed that bitcoin is headed to $10000 is not far fetched, we have reached $6000 already. Next year will be a big year for us.

Why shouldn't we compare gold with Bitcoin. Agree that gold has been around for thousands of years, but Bitcoin has features like minute divisibility and ease of transfer, which gold doesn't have. So it isn't too much of a stretch to say that Bitcoin could be digital gold.
813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finding Cryptos That Are The Least Correlated To Bitcoin? on: October 26, 2017, 09:52:44 PM
The answer to your question is Tether. The price is linked to USD. It has zero correlation to Bitcoin. If you believe there is going to be a downturn, you can move into tether and come back into Bitcoin at a later point.
814  Economy / Speculation / Re: Even Wall Street’s “dean of valuations” can’t value bitcoin on: October 26, 2017, 07:44:09 PM
If he had figured out how to value it, he might have become rich.  Wink You don't need to know how to value it. Just believe in it and hold it for a few years. The market will decide how to value it.
815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: October 26, 2017, 07:41:01 PM
Bangladesh is 132 runs behind from the winning margin.SA made a huge total of 195 runs in their innings.AB and de kock played outstandingly and help team to reach 195.This is not a easy target because Bangladesh already lost their two top batsman.Bangladesh needs a healthy partnership now for seal the match.

Bangladesh lost the match against South Africa by 20 runs, scoring 175/9 in their 20 overs. The match was as good as over once South Africa scored 195. Nevertheless, Bangladesh batted well.
816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins with low circulating supply?? on: October 24, 2017, 09:56:42 PM
I need to know about the alt coins with low circulating supply almost less than 5m and market cap, they might go up in future so I want to invest.

Just go to the last few pages of coinmarketcap. If a coin has low valuations, there probably is a reason for that. You wouldn't want to be caught with a "dead coin" in your list.
817  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Bitcoin will implode"... on: October 24, 2017, 09:54:57 PM
He is comparing it to Enron. I think it is just a case of sour grapes. He missed investing in it and now he thinks it will implode. Just like Jamie, he feels threatened by Bitcoin.

Considering he is among the richest *fiat* holders on the planet, he should feel threatened by Bitcoin which undermines his whole empire

He holds his richest status as a badge of honour.
He was once accused of trying to inflate his wealth just to get on the Forbes list of top 10 billionaires.
818  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-23] British Banks Are Shunning Bitcoin Companies on: October 23, 2017, 10:06:11 PM
British Banks Are Shunning Bitcoin Companies

Companies that handle digital currencies are being forced to open bank accounts elsewhere as British banks continue to shun them.
Investor interest in digital currencies has surged this year with bitcoin’s price rising to a record high of $6,200 over the weekend, pushing its market cap to $102.8 billion. Yet, despite this traditional banks remain weary of the market. The Financial Times reports that there are fears it’s riddled with criminals and fraudsters. As a result, cryptocurrency companies are turning to Poland, Bulgaria and Gibraltar to open bank accounts.

Banks shunning bitcoin companies is not surprising. Why would they want to give a leg up to their rivals? Their stated reason of course won't be that - it will be because criminals and money launderers use bitcoin.
819  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Lingers Below $6k As Post-Fork Altcoin Rally Expected on: October 23, 2017, 09:45:46 PM
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-price-lingers-below-6k-as-post-fork-altcoin-rally-expected

Quote
Following the network snapshot for the first of the forks, Bitcoin Gold, money could quickly flow back into altcoins, traders are suggesting.

You agree?

Nope. The effect of the Bitcoin-gold fork has been overestimated. The coins will be worthless and not many people will be buying bitcoins just to get Bitcoin Gold.
820  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looks like $6000 is just another pump and dump on: October 22, 2017, 06:05:52 PM
Just because there has been a slight correction doesn't mean that it is a pump and dump. Of course, there will be profit booking at different levels. You can't expect anything else from financial investors. We will just consolidated before moving the next move upwards.
