821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a Bitcoin backed bank? on: June 28, 2015, 02:50:07 PM
What would the point be? Most of us are using crypto currencies because we got sick of banks and their shitty practices.

Who would be having control over your private keys? {The bank}? I would not trust a central controlled entity with my private keys.

Nope, let's just get rid of the banks and be done with it. They dropped us before and they will do it again. It's like walking backwards... no point to it.  Wink

me too, I get that. But we aren't sick of banks for mainstream sensible banking ie deposits, loans etc we are against banking for debasement of money, fractional reserve banking, risk taking derive ratios trading ect. I'm talking about returning banks to the original meaning. Plus I'm only talking about making the FRONT SHOP of banking normal and accessible to the masses, Bitcoin would be the foundation it's built on.

You know what, I'm just thinking aloud but if a bunch of large holders got together they really could make something like this happen. The thing is people here are hoping people will accept using money that disappears if they make a mistake or are hacked. not going to happen, this gives a user friendly face to what we all believe in here.

*You wouldn't have private keys, you would just have a bank account just like any other bank. It would be the banks job to insure its wealth, have comprehensive unhackble systems and wallets, risk shared around many wallets etc. let's professionals deal with security. Otherwise one little old lady loses their Bitcoin once they won't go back to it.

Is getgems the only multifunctional app in de crypto space? I don't think there is an app combining an instant messenger, reward model, sending money and shopping in a functional app, is getgems the only 'all in one' app?
I have spent alot of time looking at other apps and so far I haven't found one that has even half the features of Gems (If you look closely at the wallet pics there is a feature which hasn't been mentioned yet  Wink ). The potential for this is huge!

the above pics? The follow on FB/Twitter? The Store?

TELLS US!!!!!! Cheesy
823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My new way of getting rid of cold callers. on: June 28, 2015, 06:18:19 AM
I thought the OP was going to sit people down and start talking to them about Bitcoin if they try to sell anything to them.

It could be a great strategy for Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons. Ok great tell me about your magical Mormon man and I will tell you about Bitcoin.
824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is there a Bitcoin backed bank? on: June 28, 2015, 05:48:47 AM
Its an obvious question but is there a bank backed by Bitcoin?

Imagine a bank you walk into or online that simply took your fiat and gave you whatever the value of Bitcoin was at that point gave you a monthly statement that said how many Bitcoin you own and the fiat value alongside it. It could work exactly like a bank so it therefore took guaranteed your deposit by keeping Bitcoin safe in offline wallets etc, paid interest charged interest for loans etc like any other bank does. I don't think the average person wants to worry about Bitcoin wallets and security, let the bank worry about it. My point is have everything looking like from the front a normal bank but back the fiat up with Bitcoin. I mean banks originally owned Gold to back up deposits, so why not use Bitcoin to do the same function.

I think people need the interface of a bank but one clearly stating they are Bitcoin backed would for some actually be quite attractive. e.g Greeks right now.

Has anyone tried it?

+1 if the team can pull it off why not?

I would like to hear something about the vision for the shop as it's not really been mentioned from the beginning. Are we talking selling Gems Tshirts/ stickers etc or a fully inbuilt commerce eBay site....or somewhere in the middle?

Having something to buy that's tangible to many average users is more important than we think. It's was the first question I was asked recently when describing the app.

Probably something in the middle, you wouldn't want a website for the shop, it all should be in the app where everything is within reach when using the app.

In Asia many young people espeCialy females live on their mobile devices which are definitely getting bigger. Some phones I'm seeing are as big as tablets. My point is some of these kids are having their entire media life through these things, I would never think to watch a movie or really listen to music on my phone but they do and rarely do they ever use a desktop. I think in Asia young people tend to live with parents far later and like the privacy that their mobile gives them even more than in the West. I'm seeing most banking done on them even.

so my point is a whole ecosystem is possible, there isn't really a limit, movies, music, shopping etc. Amd you never need to go to desktop.

I heard that Kim Dotcom is working on a new internet that is 100% encrypted, sounds very interesting. He does seem like a self publicist though, not sure I like him.
829  Economy / Economics / Re: A currency or investment? on: June 23, 2015, 05:41:51 AM
Alright. I have seen so many threads asking people to vote what they take Bitcoin as. These include currency, investment, payment and tipping etc. Now, if you can only choose between currency and investment.. What do you take Bitcoin as?

I take Bitcoin as a form of currency and investment. However, currency come first. I have never invested my money into Bitcoin. I only invested my time into Bitcoin.

I went to exchange and try to sell them at high price. Upon receiving the money from selling, I try to buy them again at lower price. This way, I can 1.2x or 1.4x my Bitcoin. And I will spend them online. I will never exchange them into USD or whatsoever currency and than withdraw them - unless I'm forced to.

What about you? Currency or investment?

its a pointless question, its both.
830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nike's former CIO is now the new CEO of Bitreserve on: June 23, 2015, 04:40:29 AM
The mainstream meme is that the blockchain is great and ok to like BUT the Bitcoin currency is BAD BAD BAD AND FOR DRUGS!!!!

A bit like saying roads are great but cars should be banned. Bitcoin WAS created as a currency. The brilliance of Bitcoin is the blockchain but it was built to serve the Currency.

Do we still need to be able to access our koinify account to get the benefits later of being part of the crowdsale?

Seems like there was some kind of update today. Personally I'm having no joy registering the app still.
833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Government Mining Bitcoins on: June 22, 2015, 10:27:57 AM
Why mine bitcoin if they seize them

Please go into detail how one goes about 'seizing Bitcoin'

*Are people aware that there are other countries in the world than America?
834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Government Mining Bitcoins on: June 22, 2015, 10:11:05 AM
Does anyone think that the U.S. Government would ever get involved in mining bitcoins?

I could see if bitcoin was the backbone of our financial system (which I believe is starting right now with the NASDAQ trials) the U.S. Government could possibly become the world's largest miner in order to help assure the security of the bitcoin network.  They wouldn't sit by idle while China does the majority of the mining.  Then I think other governments would join in to insure their own security as well.

This could also provide revenue for the governments possibly alleviating the tax burden placed on citizens.

Is this a possible outcome??

OK, ask yourself this:
Why on earth would they go through all that expense and trouble instead of creating their own coin?
What do you think the average American citizen would use?
Bitcoin or the US-DollarCoin?

One you clearly don't know the lengths governments particularly the U.S. Gov would go to control the currency.
Two you seem not to understand the human race. Of course the average American citizen would choose the Government made coin. Do you really think the mainstream is that smart?
835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin users: Will bitcoin ever be used and fully adapted as a currency? on: June 20, 2015, 06:10:38 PM
Hey!

Does bitcoin have a promising future?

Or will government intervention and regulation restrict bitcoin to perform as we know it?

I’m currently completing research on the current use of bitcoin. What I hope to prophesise is bitcoin’s future as a currency by asking participants their views on the current competencies of bitcoin through a few questions via a 10 minute online questionnaire.

The UK government’s response to the increasing use of cryptocurrency (AKA digital currency), is a positive one as it ‘increases banking competition in the interests of all customers. Encouraging greater innovation in payments’ (HM Treasury, 2015).

The study will gather global perspectives to answer:
- Does bitcoin has the ability to be fully adapted and used in the economy compared to other payment systems?
- Do certain attributes of bitcoin (such as security, safe guards and lack of regulation) hinder its potential to be used as a payment system or as a facilitator of investment?

Please click the link below if you wish to complete the questionnaire: [/b]

Thank you!

Bullshit does the UK Treasury think Bitcoin is a good idea. it's rat poison to them..
836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | iPhone Beta is Live | on: June 20, 2015, 06:08:16 PM
using my smartphone, i notice a different procedure when clicking on the referral link from Facebook and from Whatsapp:

On Whatsapp, it requests to open the link using chrome or other apps. once i click on chrome, it takes a few secs to load and then it sends me to GooglePlay GetGems Messenger page. okay. good to go!
On Facebook, it seems to open the link inside facebook. not chrome and it didn't request me to open in chrome. and then it opens GetGems app. i do not know what happens when GetGems isn't installed. will have to wait for my friends to get back to me on that. But just to find out from the rest if you have already try it out: does it work?

I don't know if there is a problem or not here but I will say something. FB has for a while become a very closed system, if you click on anything in FB instead of taking you off to view it FB now tends to make you view things within FB. This MIGHT be the reason for what is happening. basically FB wants to own the Internet.

Just to feedback, I'm having all kinds of problems downloading and opening the new Android version.

At the moment its pushing me past the page to enter my user name, and then it is adding the pin I enter to my username, therefore invalid.
If you have time can you please send a detailed email on the problems you are having to support@getgems.org?

Thank you.

I'm sure they know of the issue. On google play the last handful of reviews have said the new version is looping and not opening. I don't understand how this happens when you have testers?
There is only a small group of testers with a limited number of phones to test on, each brand of phone can have different bugs. The people in the beta has far as I know have been mainly bug free. I'm sure it will be a easy fix but since it is the weekend in Israel it might take a day or two.

Edit: I only see three people on Google Play with that problem.

I'm fine, there is no disaster I'll wait. It might only be three but its three in the last day and they say the same thing. My hunch is its not an app issue but possibly a registration issue which testers might not confront. With new security features there could actually be a ton is issues with certain people who's phone setting etc conflict with the checks it makes, anyway no worries.

I thought yesterday its 9pm Friday night in Tel Aviv, the team are youngish males, if they are coding and not not in some bar somewhere I would be more worried.  Wink

Will forward this to the dev at g+ and post back here when he replies.

Have you tried the new version, hows it for you? I did notice some guy said on Google store he also couldn't get the new version to work.

You should add @peled1986 and he adds you to the android beta testers group in the getgems app itself, there you can interact with the dev faster for possible issues.

Yes my bro just downloaded it and everything worked fine. First there came yoda welcoming the user and explaining about the new version and after pressing proceed he had to put his phone number, received sms code and the app signed in automatically, then a window popped up with a pirate picture warning about to save the passphrase and that was it, there was no page to enter username. The UI looks great, especially the wallet.

Not that useful as I can't download and open the app. Wink I'll wait and see if anyone else has problems. Its the first time I did so I'm thinking it might not just be me.
