Don't worry, I think people here are just brainstorming, so always take such unofficial ideas with a grain of salt. One day we might have a vanitygen-competition, but only if it can run on top of a blockchain-based crowd-funding mechanism, where participants themselves decide the goal of the competition and the prize-collateral they are willing to bet. No middlemen whatsoever. And most importantly: people who don't want to participate, don't need to. Such schemes must always work in a trustless, permissionless manner, where nobody has any control or liability: with only cryptography as the sole guardian needed. As a libertarian I understand the principles of decentralization pretty well, so rest assured that everything I research and develop has the goal of increasing decentralization, or finding new ways of decentralization where it hasn't been tried before. I am not here to please investors or fintech or my own or someone elses financial needs. But in the end, the world is in dire need of more decentralization so all the aforementioned parties will find value in truly decentralized systems. That's why I'm building the decentralized blockexplorer. That's also why I am building servicenodes that run with a competitive collateral. (decentralizing away the need for a "king" that decides the amount of collateral for everybody else) Literally everything I will work on will have the name "decentralized" in front of it, or else I'm simply not going to touch it. You get the idea: if it can't be done in a decentralized way, we shouldn't be doing it in the first place.So with this in mind, I understand that not everybody here has the same mindset. Not even all of the core members. But I am not here to police other people's "ideas". But I'll do everything I can to not let conflicting agendas dissuade spreadcoin from achieving true decentralization. --- So... I'm putting a few things together. I understand that what people are most waiting to see is some sort of update about the work I've been doing. And not just once, but in a regular manner, maybe once a week? It will take me a few days to put all the experiments I have done (and their results) in a digestible form that can be publicly presented. I do have a promising format in mind that I can use to present updates, possibly in the form of a youtube podcast. Please bare with me for a few more days, to get everything in order. Thanks everybody! Georgem, for your first update can you make sure that you address individual concerns? Its all very well talking about your commitment to decentralisation and experiments that you have conducted but people want to know how your progress against the roadmap is developing and also when other people will be permitted to assist you. You've got a team of people with significant experience in crypto who are emotionally and financially invested in this project ready and willing to help you. At the moment you are cutting them off. You aren't even engaging people in the dev slack channel which is why I am speaking publicly here. I don't think anybody thinks this is wise or acceptable. At worst, its disrespectful to people who have offered you support both financially and practically. |

thanks everybody for your input/opinions. This will require a more in depth answer to clarify things, but alas it is sunday, and tomorrow I do have a full workday. (can't you natives find a better date to start a riot? lol  ) Anyway, I'm not going to write this off with a superficial answer, I will thoroughly elaborate on this. While Georgem is busy working on service nodes there have been no updates to the community for too long.
The regular"stay tuned" messages are simply eroding any momentum and have also nullified a vast amount of work conducted by myself, coins101, minerpage and others.
Yes, I'm confident in this project but given George's current disinclination to work as part of a team, I suspect there is very little for a newcomer to see in this project.
OK, that might mean cheap coins for us but ultimately this code of silence and asking for patience for six months is limiting growth and dissuading people to come on board.
Improvement is badly needed.

The lack of updates is extremely frustrating but I find a fair bit of comfort knowing that Georgem isn't simply cut and pasting Darkcoin code but working on service nodes from scratch.
The end product, or at least the first release, should be pretty special.

I'm just about to splash out $750k on property and to make it happen I need all the spare change I can put my hands on. The rest of my bag is staying untouched for the long term. I make no secret that I'm impatient and wish things moved more quickly but at the same time I'm very grateful that Georgem is coding from scratch and not just reusing code from another project.
Once first testnet is running, code will be on Github and more devs can join the party.
It has been a long time since Spreadcoin could be considered a simple copy and paste from Darkcoin.

But, what if we change the name at some point? About 3 months after Darkcoin was launched, I did my homework before investing serious time and effort into supporting Darkcoin. Name got changed; they are working on apps (finally got there after about 14 months of me harassing and then joining SPR to focus on apps); and there is a bigger team enabling work to be carried out in parallel. So, I'm willing to bet that Spreadcoin will get a name change at some point. It will just need a period of time before it becomes evident why, and what the name options will be. An Android app is in the works, but I haven't seen the details to know if that extends to a wallet. If it becomes an issue, which I doubt, we can fund a wallet so it doesn't distract from the main focus. An app? Cool, any info on the app's functions? First app is simple. It shows basic market data and the value of your wallet. Second app will notify you on service node payments or mining rewards. Should be ready in the next few days. I'm testing at the moment. That's brilliant! So the first app is nearly ready and the second has to be built yet? First app is finished and will be on Google play and iTunes as soon as they get approved for listing. I'm talking about somebody runnning 500 bitcoin daemons as full nodes from one copy of the blockchain with 500 service nodes.
Those would have to be special custom versions of bitcoin daemons, to be able to link with the same blockchain. (only one would be writing, and the others would be in readmode, answering to external nodes. They would be mere mirroring/echoing nodes. They might alternate this assignment with one another.) To the rest of the bitcoin network they would appear normal, except that they would have this unnatural synchronicity ( no time or height differential whatsoever) Shouldn't be that hard to create even for an average dev. He would have to remove any locking restrictions from the code, and remove any update/writing capabilities. He would keep everything in there that is for listening and answering requests, like getheaders, getdata, getblocks, etc..) If you have access to a server with 2 IPs and network storage maybe you can run a test and see what happens. (It won't work) Maybe someone could create one of these mirroring/echoing-nodes until it indeed works? That would be quite interesting to see. Thanks for the info.
