A 503 error is usually due to human intervention - maintenance or.....for a reason. As it's been down for quite a few hours now, I'll go with "for a reason".
They might have pulled it to stop sales of batch 2/3. They needed to do it somtime soon. So possible they pulled it down during US time and work on it with more of the workforce during China time, it's now morning there. They really have not had a ton of time in China yet to fix it. And also with price of coin we could see increase. They could have a meeting or two on that before putting it up with another batch. They wouldn't take the site down to remove quantity or products from sales. One would think. I have not tried to hit up any BM contacts. But it is China daytime now. Do you have any idea why they are down? No, its a Sunday so no one is on. |

Is there any way to lower the fan speed further than with the smit's slow fan firmware? It won't go under 2520RPM even though its cold and its the only thing making noise in my apartment now.
The S5's are completely silent now.
S4s will do okay with their front fans swapped out but if you're saying temps are really good then you could remove the front fans altogether. I wouldn't recommend unplugging them and leaving them in the case as they're restrictive by design. In terms of noise levels it won't reduce it much but it'll at least save you 30W. Besides that you can't get them slower without firmware as they're modified by PWM signals and not voltage. I see. Well its already running with only 3 fans, and i'm really interested in getting them to run at 1000 to 2000 RPM. The temps at the moment are at 40c and RPM is 2520. I already have the smit's firmware, does this allow to set a variable somewhere to get it lower than its set minimum? Any method of making these fans quiet would be nice, short of swapping out the fans, since i would rather not buy more hardware for this S4. If there is no known way to do this, then thanks anyways for your replies dogie! I am unsure what Smit's firmware does or any additional variables, why don't you flash the slow fan firmware? Have you got any weaker fans you could test with? |

Thanks! Yes, I forgot that it took a few seconds to turn on. I successfully turned it off for a about 8 hours so I could examine the power cord to make sure it was the correct one because it was getting very warm. It was the right one. Is that normal for it to get hot while operating - the cord? I can still touch it, but it doesn't feel right. Could this be an issue with the amount of power the outlet is providing or is it possible the cord is too old and I need a new one? Thanks!
Getting warm is not really a great thing for a electrical cable. Are you sure it is original cord? And can you define "very warm" that is not something good if it's as hot as I think your saying. Yes it could be the amount of watts of a S4 if cable is not right gauge. So check cable and see if it is original. And even if it is if getting "very warm" might be worth getting a new better gauge wire. Thanks. It sounds like it is too hot to be good. So you think it has more to do with the cord than the wall if the S4 has been running just fine at full hash rate for a 5 days now? What kind of power cable would you recommend for the S4 if I need a replacement? Make sure you're running the correct AWG mains power cable. I have a plan to do a low noise DCDC solution miner (Avalon6P )for home, but it's sure will have a higher price (30% cost increase) and
lower efficiency (5-8% decrease) compare to a "string" solution. Also it's far more difficult to design & manufacture.
Why does the design have to shift to DCDC again in order to make a home miner? Bitmain had string miner boards as low as 250W. |

I doubt it very seriously. BITMAIN, has limited resources (employees). They already have their hands full with completing testing hash boards and shipping batches 1, 2 and 3. I'm sure they will get around to compensation once they've caught up. Patience, my fellow miner. The compensation email to those requiring compensation will arrive in due time. It may take a couple of weeks but it will be taken care of in due time. Bitmain is one of the biggest employers within Bitcoin companies. That being said they'll still concentrate on shipping orders, tracking and emails and do compensation later. They'll prefer to do it in batches and its not as if they're going anywhere. |

Just checked and my order has made it to Japan which is a different route than most other times which took the miners thru Alaska. But so far so good and UPS says it will be here Monday the 19th.
The global distribution networks have 2 paths between almost all destinations, a slow and a fast one. The slow one is cheaper and more efficient because you can guarantee near 100% utilisation at all times, redundancy and volume. The fast one takes many fewer hops but the plane has to leave regardless of if its 40% or 80% full. In the case of a package that is predicted to arrive local to the destination a Saturday via the fast route, they'll drop it to the slow one. Its going to be delivered on the Monday regardless, so why increase the cost for everyone? My Chinese packages take about 6 hops when they'll arrive locally on the weekend, else just 3. |

Ok I will wait then. I've also got this question. I'd like to use this miner part of the time. Does anyone know if it's safe to turn on and off the miner using the small button on the back next to the power supply? (By holding down the button for 3sec). I don't want to slowly wreck this machine but there's also no way that I can sleep with it on.

I'd say the easier fix is to set "sent feedback" to hidden as default. Those lists are usually larger and don't really help 99% of users determine anything at all.
Definitely not true in my case. Minimizing everything except the trusted feedback by default makes sense to me though. Cause you a trust hoe, not the normal case  |
