1381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin heading to 1000 which alts will survive? on: October 21, 2013, 06:06:53 PM
Primecoin has a scientific reason to survive.
People keep saying this. So, what real-world purpose, exactly, does this serve? I get it, prime numbers, great.... what value does that provide to the world? And how well does that correlate to the current/future price?
1382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If they do, when will the FBI announce to sell their alledged 600k BTC stash? on: October 21, 2013, 06:01:45 PM
I think they would have to wait until after he is found guilty. Even then, I hope the keep it.
Please note that it's not a choice, they MUST be sold. Or destroyed in some particular cases. So no, they cannot "keep" them.

What do you mean they can not keep them? If they decide that that is what they want to do, who is going to stop them? I mean maybe you could say it would be politically unprofitable, but thats definately not at all the same thing as saying they have no choice. they have most of and the biggest guns in the world, they can do what ever the hell they please.

Assets in commission of crime that are seized are subject to liquidation guidelines from the DOJ. I'm unsure, but I have a feeling they can't just hold onto them. Seizures are such an ingrained part of law enforcement budgets now that they are only interested in dollars, anyway. And they don't have to wait until the trial is over -- not unless Ulbricht can prove fast that the coins were not used in commission of crime. Good luck with that....
1383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bitcoin Complete Privacy/Anarchy Fantasy Dead? on: October 21, 2013, 05:56:46 PM
Have you heard about Zerocoin?
Yes, but do we have any idea when/if this will be implemented in bitcoin? I remember reading about zerocoin at some point and being excited about it, but it seems so long ago.
1384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoins you are holding *NO TROLLING on: October 21, 2013, 05:55:15 PM
Yeah, I'd echo the sentiment that it is not wise for anyone holding a decent amount of coins to be posting the details of your holdings here. There is simply nothing good that can come from it.
1385  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Vault of Satoshi - New Exchange on: October 21, 2013, 05:52:50 PM
They gave away ~$1100 of Reddit Gold yesterday, so they attracted a lot of attention, but I don't know anyone who's used the exchange. Good PR though.

That was a pretty big giveaway. I think they should have given free BTC or $ on their site. Reddit Gold is not really related to BTC.

I would be interested in they give free BTC Smiley

Yeah, it seemed like an odd choice -- why Reddit gold? Why not run a BTC promo for Redditors instead? Seems very strange, but.... hopefully this exchange goes somewhere? Seems pretty empty....
1386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not really a newbie on: October 21, 2013, 05:51:37 PM
But I'm glad to be a part of this forum!

I've been into bitcoin for over a year now, even though I've heard about it longer ago than that. Sadly, I didn't buy a bigger amount for cheaper then.

I have written about crypto coin in my tech blog: http://www.eyalo.com/379/bitcoin/

And am always glad to learn new things about the subject.

Thanks!  Smiley

Yep, we all wish we got in a bit earlier. Oh well, best to get a feel for the BTC economy and price action now, before the rest of the world catches on.  Smiley
1387  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is about to explode. on: October 21, 2013, 05:50:18 PM
Well, OP was right, I guess. Bitcoin did explode a month later.... question is, will we reach $1000 next year? Some people think we are going to reach $1000 on this rally -- not sure about that -- but I definitely have a few coins to sell at $1000 if we get there soon.  Cool

We all do if $1000 happens soon.
This makes me confident we will not see $1000 soon. Sorry
Haha, this is has been my thinking exactly, pretty much. Everyone seems so uber bullish at this point -- the top can't be too far off!  Undecided
1388  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: October 21, 2013, 05:48:57 PM
What do you guys think of this latest rally? Are we going to blast right through $200 after this consolidation, or are we going to see dumps soon, bringing us back to pre-parabolic levels?

There is another possibility, a bit stable price, at least for few weeks. I believe eighter this or quick rise followed by crash.
I don't know.... we went parabolic pretty quick there, so I think it is unlikely we stabilize anywhere for too long. I think we'll keep climbing until the bottom falls out of the Chinese speculation market -- that is what is driving us at this point. Little support otherwise, IMO.
1389  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BFL banned me from the forums on: October 21, 2013, 05:47:00 PM
That's terrible of them. Trying to cover up their incompetence....

Why?
It is a private forum, they can do whatever they want....

I don't see anything surprising here.

Surprising? Of course not! Worth mentioning? Maybe. Do lots and lots of people deserve to vent about BFL? Most definitely.  Undecided
1390  Other / Off-topic / Re: In a few years... on: October 21, 2013, 05:43:05 PM
What are you going to do with your riches if when BTC hits $500,000,000?  Grin
Well, I think that number is too high -- it suggests hyperinflation of the US dollar. But when BTC hits 6 figures.... I'm buying a house, keeping sure to tuck away BTC trust funds for my family, quitting my job and going back to school for the fun of it!  Smiley
1391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miner's fee a barrier to mass adoption on: October 21, 2013, 05:39:45 PM
Finding a solution for those two problems may not be necessary for mass adoption. Bitcoin is not well suited for face-to-face transactions because you have to wait for a confirmation. It is not also suited for small transactions where a few cents matters. That's just the reality. It doesn't mean that bitcoin is not useful to anyone.
Some merchants do zero-confirmation transactions..... the last bitpay invoice I paid cleared the second I sent, so I'm sure it was zero-confirmation. I wonder what the percentage rate of zero-confirmation transactions that are received and then rejected by the blockchain? Anyone know?
1392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC Coin Supply Rate on: October 21, 2013, 05:30:55 PM
dvc ethics now thats hilarious!!! Grin

Hilarious, why? Regardless of anything else, I support a currency / commodity designed to encourage open source development and art.
1393  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chase bank limiting cash and banning international wire transfers November 17??? on: October 21, 2013, 05:25:55 PM
No restriction on freedom - just a bank looking to increase its fee income.
That's been my feeling, too. I'm not sure how this all got so blown out of proportion. When we start seeing capital control restrictions coming from the state level..... then it's time to worry. (or too late....)
1394  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Silk Road Hollywood Movie on: October 21, 2013, 05:24:26 PM
I'm looking forward to all the scenes of Ross mashing the keyboard in the library: coding, talking on the forums, establishing his DPR persona. What a gold mine, this movie script!  Roll Eyes
1395  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Bitcoin a religion? Satoshi is our God? on: October 21, 2013, 05:22:40 PM
Why does everything has to be about religion...if something is good then just accept it that way  Smiley
It has to be about religion because a large segment of bitcoin supporters are complete bat**** fanatics that have made it into a religion. How you view it is up to you.  Smiley
1396  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone worried how fast BTC is climbing in price? on: October 21, 2013, 05:20:37 PM
Well at this point China is dragging the markets along with it. It's really in the hands of the Chinese how far this rally goes and how long it lasts. If the Chinese want to take us to 10k cyn they can do that.

But long term this rally is unsupported by anything "real".   I'd love for this rally to be occurring on the heels of the announcement of new bitcoin technologies or some larger retailers or Paypal implementation, etc.

Instead we are on a Chinese roller coaster. And trying to predict where it's taking us short term is simply impossible.
This has pretty much been my feeling, too. I don't think there is much adoption or real support backing this rally -- just wild speculation in the Chinese market. When the bottom falls out there, it'll fall out here too, I think. Who the hell knows what's going on over there, though?

Huh
1397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC Coin Supply Rate on: October 21, 2013, 05:18:03 PM
Are you sure that 55K coins are created daily?

no idea i'm collecting cheapies off bottom the exchange = weak hands!!!  Grin T3RR4C((((((01NNNNN

Really? Wow, good luck. Of all the older alt-coins, TRC looked to me like it was one of the most assured to die off a slow, painful death.

lol no imo Devcoin is prolly the worst ~ its like a virus!  Roll Eyes

(Shrug.) I support the theory and ethics behind devcoin, but I don't buy it hoping to catch a pump and dump. With TRC, you can only hope for a pump that, at this point, may never come.....
1398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will the open source Ripple competitor look like? on: October 21, 2013, 05:14:10 PM
Necro-thread.  Smiley

That whole open-source thing for Ripple.... kind of flopped on the news cycle, huh. Is anyone even working on a clone of Ripple, or have people forgotten about it entirely?
1399  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone worried how fast BTC is climbing in price? on: October 21, 2013, 05:10:53 PM
I'm wondering.. Maybe it's not that BTC appreciate that much, but maybe more poeples are understanding that the actual fiat-printing-currency system is on the verge of total faillure (currently slowly falling appart).
No. I am quite confident that this is not what is happening, on any level. At all. We're a long ways away from there, I think.
1400  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: No problems withdrawing EUR or BTC from MtGox, so why do ppl say so? on: October 21, 2013, 05:08:17 PM
In the last days I have had no problems withdrawing EUR or BTC form MtGox. Why do so many say its a problem? I guess its US customers only, as I am in Scandinavia. Took s few days before my money was in my bank. I am happy.. ( did not sell a lot, just 50 BTC, as a test)

So I am a bit flabbergasted about the bad talk about MtGox, as I have never had any problems.

The Gox withdrawal delay mega-thread seems to indicate that EUR withdrawals take 2-6 weeks. So I'd beg to differ regarding your assertion that there are "no problems."
