Maybe his age is finally affecting his performance, I don't know. But this performance from him certainly did not feel like the Rafael Nadal we all know.
Nadal himself said after his elimination that he is currently lout of self-confidence and mental strength to play at a high level. But without victories he will have a hard time getting all that back. He had some problems with his health this year and could not play some tournaments. But he is already 36 and he has noticed himself that the young players have it easier to play. Self confidence is really big part of Nadal's game and he is nowhere near his best when there is even a little doubt in his mind. That is why he has such good record on Grand Slams, they are played BO5 which gives Nadal time to turn the matches around and they start against opponents that are well below his level. Then after Nadal gets a couple of easy wins he raises his game in each consecutive round and becomes that unbeatable beast that runs his opponents into the ground. Yes, Nadal is one of those elite players as he can completely turn on the switch in a BO5 games and this opponent didn't know what to do as he thought that Nadal is already down and he is about to win the games against him. Right now though, we understand if he doesn't have that confidence, he is not getting any younger, his body is battered and bruised. But for sure, it will only take just a game for him to have that mentally again and become a beast.

I think Djokovic will win, he will be super psyched about his news from yesterday regarding AO, so I might do an in play bet if Rublev takes the lead...
have to say that I did not expect to see Djokovic this good, but he looked today as in best days, cannot see someone to take him down on this Masters AO visa issues are now gone, and he could see himself another GS title as well, looking at Nadal play here, Djokovic is pruned to overcome him in GS numbers next year Me neither, I cannot see anyone beating him, as I said earlier it is like he is at the top of his game ATM. His mental state and belief are 100% I believe his 2023 season has got underway since that AO news! Maybe his age is finally affecting his performance, I don't know. But this performance from him certainly did not feel like the Rafael Nadal we all know.

In the coming season the GOAT decision will be made purely related to the number of won Grand Slam tournaments. Given these news about the AO for Djokovic, he now knows that he does indeed get one more chance to go into absolute superstar mode and really win it all. Should he start off with the AO and a win there, the big showdown will be at the French Open and Nadal will be under unbelievable pressure regarding his health condition. I doubt we will see him playing a lot until the clay season starts then. The French Open is probably the only tournament he might be able to stop Djokovic in the coming year. Let the games begin! I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season.

My bet on Rublev did not age that well Đoković really looks dominant, he secured the semis already. Tsitsipas won the 3rd set TB against Medvedev and will fight it out with Rublev for the 2nd spot in the group. My favorites are Rublev and FAA, and overall Đoković is the most likely to win overall.

Novak Djokovic - Andrey Rublev
With Djokovic's current form at 35, betting against him is only because you are hoping to be lucky one time and get the odds of him loosing. Djokovic has the ability to go all through and win this competition. In the second set with Rublev, Djokovic totally outplayed him, the pressure got to him and Djokovic used it to his advantage. His next game is against Medvedev, and he will be totally focused on that to win so he can progress into the finals

I thought maybe if Rublev took the lead early on, which can happen when playing Djokovic that the odds would jump up a bit. Joca97 - yes that was some display from him, I would say a lot of people lost on Rublev. Nadal is currently playing Ruud, I have a bet on Ruud to win this.

Djoković looks really clinical and this should be his title without much problems. Medvedev in this form can't play against Djokovic, my bet will be handi on Djokovic. Big match tonight, I feel like this should be three close sets for FAA and Fritz, my bet is on over games here. That can pass even with two sets in tie breaks and I don't see this match as one with many breaks.

Any bets against Djokovic for me arent realistic unless you are chasing some Djokovic loss. Nadal won easily against Ruud and ended the year with a win.

Nadal has never won this tournament. What could be the cause of that? It certainly plays a role that the surface is not his favorite. And this year you could still say that age and physical problems are causing him problems, but in recent years he also failed to win this tournament. Perhaps it is too difficult to only play against top 10 players. In Grand Slam tournaments you have enough time to play your own in the tournament, in this tournament you have to be there every game and a lesser game almost immediately means elimination. I don't think Nadal really cares about this. Nice for Djokovic that he can participate in the Australian open again in January.

not sure why, but all young players do not have that grind moment, that is still pushing Djokovic, and Nadal as well, although he seems as on the end, IMO Ruud played as it is not matter at all (and obviously isn't mattered, since he already secured semi-final, but it is better to win last match in the group, that do not win it) regarding Djokovic, if he continues like this, he will win it without set lost, not sure who can stretch him in semi-final or final, maybe FAA if pass through

I think it has mostly to do with the surface. Taking into consideration how often he won the French Open, that is the most logical explanation for his poor performances at these finals. He made it to the ATP World Tour Finals and he once met Federer and lost it big time, and the same thing happened in the final against Djokovic. But still I don't see any issue with that as in contrast to that it is also unbelievable how he dominated the French Open. As surprising as his overall result at those finals is, even more surprising are his statistics at the FO. I actually liked the fact that Nadal did not just give away the game against Ruud, but showed great tennis and walked away with his head held high. That also makes a champion.

Damn, I called this one perfectly, 1:1 in sets so far without a single break of serve and third set going in the same direction. Easiest money I made this week. Tomorrow I am taking Djoković, probably even handicap and Tsitispas ML or over games. Tsitsipas seems like a more stable player to me but Rublev is good enough to take one set for sure before loosing his cools.

These days there are so much rumors about Sania Mirza the tennis star. There are so many controversies about her too. She was a very good player and seems like she is struggling too much due to her career and personal life.
Doesn't really follow her career, because at the moment she's playing doubles and as usual doubles players don't get too much attention from the media so all rumors are passed. Tsitsipas and Djokovic are currently playing again each other. Djokovic managed a break point in the very first set at the beginning and won the set rather unspectacularly. In the second set it is pretty even and everyone gets through their service game. I also see that Tsitsipas needs a new strategy to win against Djokovic.
He lost again to Djokovic via tie break in the second set, not impressive when the top 10 players can lose 4 times in a row from the same opponent, this has not counted other defeats in the previous year, with this victory Djokovic is far superior in Head To Head with Tsitsipas being 10-2, Tsitsipas has yet to find the right way to dampen Djokovic. Nadal is in terrible shape recently he lost yesterday against fritz 2 0 in a game to be forgotten he lost his last three matchs all against young american players despite being the favourite on all of them, can we say their play style is a bad match up for him or his performance is just downgrading and his age has finally catch up to him i think we will see that when he face aliassime tomorrow, the young canadian is in good shape and he is the favourite it seems.
No one can ignore that age will always put great players down, and so far only Djokovic has been able to play at the same level, which is why young players face such challenges against him. In today match I choose Aliassime to win, his meetings so far with Nadal have always been on clay and it's Nadal's favorite field so it's normal if Aliassime always loses but this time it will be his games But sometime the people are so crazy about their game that they can't get out of it. Yes -that is correct - Sania plays double and that is one of the reasons they don't get much attention.

For the same reason I'll be betting on Medvedev today. Đoković is a favorite for sure, especially considering how both of them have been playing - but odds on Rublev were 4 and they are 3.50 on Medvedev today. I do think Medvedev has enough quality to beat Đoković so I'll try - this bet gives better value than any other available today - at least in my opinion.

I dont know why anyone would bet on Rublev that is just a huge mistake. Djokovic won last 20/21 matches and considered the favorite to win this tournament. Any bets against Djokovic for me arent realistic unless you are chasing some Djokovic loss. Nadal won easily against Ruud and ended the year with a win.
Djokovic seems to be in a better mental condition than Medvedev and he might also have this sight edge over him because of the win in the group stage. Even when Medvedev took away a set of him, it seems as if Djokovic is playing a better mental game and faster able to switch gears when necessary. Medvedev isn't as good as Djokovic when it comes to coping with mistakes or small phases of weaknesses. At this level of the game it is especially about not melting down mentally. This is where I see Djokovic is ahead of Medvedev.

Honestly, why is Nadal not retiring? the guy is already 36 years old, it's time for him to retire and take care of his other things he was eliminated and yesterday he beat Ruud, this season he played 47 games and had 39 wins but it's time for him to retire, I don't see him having a performance like in the past, his age is already well advanced and of course age is something that does not stop and does not decrease, it only increases, well, he is the one who knows, if he takes a long time to retire he will retire when he cannot win nothing, what would be the worst time to retire, good time to retire would be now I dont know why anyone would bet on Rublev that is just a huge mistake. Djokovic won last 20/21 matches and considered the favorite to win this tournament. Any bets against Djokovic for me arent realistic unless you are chasing some Djokovic loss. This is where I see Djokovic is ahead of Medvedev. Djokovic beat Medvedev and will play against Fritz and due to the odds Djokovic is the favorite to beat Fritz, I see that he will win and then he will have to face Tsitsipas who in my opinion will beat Rublev, the question will be between Djokovic and Tsitsipas will win, this game will be very interesting, I will bet on Tsitsipas if this game happens, I see Tsitsipas as someone who is overcoming all obstacles

Djokovic seem unbeatable at the moment i think this is his best performance this year i doubt anyone would beat him, but if there is one who could i thinkvit would be tsitsipas my money is on him to reach the finals.

^ The only one able to trouble Djokovic was Medvedev but still Djokovic prevails.
I didn't make any bets on those QF's, I was right in thinking Djokovic v Medvedev would be very close and just didn't know what way to go with or without Tsitsipas.
For today I feel like unloading my walled on Djokovic. There really isn't anyone left to trouble him but I'll take a more sensible approach and take a handicap maybe on both?

In the second set, Djokovic looked very tired and didn't even look well (looked sick) but he was still able to make the match for tie break, even in the third set, Medvedev had a chance in his hands to close the set and win, unfortunately, it didn't happen. You're right, Djokovic looks more prepared mentally and it's always a challenge for his opponents how to put him down but it's really difficult. In the semifinals he will fight Fritz, just look at what kind of thread Fritz can do for this match and how to beat Djokovic
