I think I have heard her being mentioned somewhere before. Definitely one to
watch for the future. As regards the one time GS finalist's Raducanu and Fernandez -
they havent exactly been lighting up the Tennis courts since their US final appearance.
Leylah has had a better doubles results than singles results though.

On the mens side in Madrid, both Gasquet and Wawrinka have come through their matches
easily enough yesterday. Bit of an upset yesterday but not a massive surprise was Schwartzman
being beaten by Grenier, I remember looking at the odds and seeing Diego being favourite
and also knew he was not in great form lately but I didnt bet on the match.

And it seems she is continuing the winning strike since she has won also against Beatriz
Haddad Maia (number 14 WTA/13 on Madrid seed).

The Russian teen is definitely a player to follow... hoping that she will be able to confirm itself in the next few years... and to cope to a lot of pressure Roll Eyes

Yeah I watched the match: the Brazilian looked completely helpless. And note that Mirra wasn't using defensive play most juniors are trying to use against WTA stars in their first matches on tour. Instead she was playing aggressively, lots of winners and Haddad Maia actually struggled to return her serve. In fact, this is one of the best performances by a player so young ever. She is in R3 of 1000 series Masters tournament! At 15yo!  Cool

In R3 she is going to face Linette or Vondrousova and from what I've seen so far she can beat either of them two.

Thats an unbelievable result from her again, impressive also to be able to back up that
win over Fernandez and beat a strong player as Haddad Maia. Definitely at this stage
one to watch and for next round should be interesting to see how she goes against Linette.

On the mens side there was a bit of an upset today with the Italian Vavassori beating
Murray, that would have been a great bet to take on Vavassori I'd say.

I'd say Murray is very close to retiring or waiting for the Grass season.

Allthough I think that it would be better for Murray to retire, he has nothing to prove anymore, I don’t think he will do it anytime soon. Allthough he will never reach his prime form again, he just loves the game too much. He can still win some matches but after 3-4 matches, his body can’t handle it anymore.

He himself should realise and take the right decision and retire. Its time to spend with his family, because he had done to his ability and now it looks like he's spoiling his name that he created through his play. The young generation is very strong and it is really impossible to give competence if the player isn't fit enough. Even in the last match he played his best to win the second match, but the tie breaker went in favour of the opponent Vavassori.

Probably he is waiting for the thing that every athlete waits to have in his life which is one last laugh. It is out of the emotion of the game for any athlete. But that is not a very tactically sound decision. Because as he ages more and more he will have left chances to compete and win against the younger opponents that he will face.

So, I think it is best for any athlete to actually retire and of course, spend some time with his family and put the money that he earned through his career somewhere else. Probably into some business by investing or putting up his own business.

In case some of you missed this:

Quote
Canada's Leylah Fernandez suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to 15-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the first round of the Madrid Open on Wednesday. The Russian teen, ranked 194th in the world, needed just an hour and 16 minutes to upset the 49th-ranked Fernandez.

Spectacular performance from a Russian teen. Quite an easy win against a GS runner-up! Definitely future TOP10 material!  Roll Eyes

Another talented teen Brenda Fruhvirtova lost to Kalinskaya in 3 sets: 6:2, 4:6, 4:6.

Impressive win!

Clay is a very physically demanding surface so it's really hard for the veterans to play (except Rafa obviously). You need top notch conditioning and be completely injury-free. So yeah, I'd say Murray has more chances on grass. Grass surface is not that hard on his joints as, for example, hard surface and isn't likely get you injured like clay (well, if the grass is not wet).  Grin

Today the top players will start competing, but from the list of matches for the men's division, I can only see the match between Stan Wawrinka vs Andrey Rublev which will be quite interesting to watch, and will probably be a close match.
Wawrinka after his injury has not managed to achieve good results, his fate is almost the same as Murray who can win in several rounds but is not strong enough to get to the semifinals or finals but clay is his favorite place to play, so Rublev who also often appears under his best will get resistance the tough one in this match, my prediction is it will be a 3 set match and I hope so, because including this match in my multi bet as well as including the seeds to smoothly advance to the round of 32.

In addition, I find the match between Bublik and Rune interesting.  Rune has had two exhausting tournaments. Monte Carlo and Munich. He self said afterwards that it was quite exhausting. I can imagine that there could be a surprise in this match.
The last match today will be between Carballes Baena and Zverev. The favourite is Zverev. But his performance has been very mixed in the last and I am curious to see how he will play this match.

The third set between both of them is being played right now. The first set was won by Rune and the second set was won by Bublik.
Now into the third set, Rune has the advantage over his opponent (2_1).

I personally think that Rune is going to be the winner of this match. But it is very competitive even now. It is uncertain who will win.
But I will say that the overall performance till now has been better from Rune.

The third set reached the tie breaker and Runs was able to win it 711-69. Thats really close from the beginning of the match. In the next match Runs is to play against Fokina. The match seems to be competing as he's in good form playing against Alcaraz in the Barcelona Open quarter finals. Alcaraz won it on direct sets, but this wasn't an easy win as the first set was won 77-65.

Finally, there were no surprises after Rune was able to win the third set with a tight tie break, however it really was a very close game
Zverev played until midnight and had to go on 3 sets and the third set was easier for Zverev, because he did not give 1 game to his opponent.

But the worst thing about yesterday's match was that the third seed Casper Ruud lost in straight sets to a player ranked outside the top 100 Matteo Arnaldi. Casper hasn't shown anything good so far in the clay season, but really didn't take into account that he would easily lose to the Italian tennis player and should never have chosen Ruud in a bet because of his inconsistency, the surprise also occurred for Musetti who lost to 92nd ranked tennis player Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets.

Alcaraz had difficulties at the start of his match, fortunately, he was able to overcome in the second and third sets, so he was able to advance to the next round.

Still thinking what today match to choose to bet on as betting on Medvedev doesn't seem safe either.

... Matteo Arnaldi.
...

This Italian guy is performing really well, and after Madrid he will be for sure in top 100.
I should admit, against Ruud it was not easy at all (odd was at @5.00) but in the end he has been able to win...
Now against Munar... he has already played against the Spaniard and he has a win! Let's see the match.

Meanwhile another Italian player, Berrettini, will be not present in Internazionali of Roma Sad
probably this is his worst year of the entire career Sad

Yes its such a disappointing year for Berrettini, he has such great potential but
just cannot get back playing with consistency and without injury. Such a pity.

Bitbollo did you have Arnaldi backed at 5.0? great odds for a winner.

While we are talking about Italian players I had a bet on Musetti yesterday to beat
Hanfmann which didnt happen. Thats a disappointment for him to go out of the tournament
so early in the round of 64.

I just came across this interesting tennis news:

''ATP announces line judges to be fully replaced by technology''
''Human line judges will be replaced by an electronic calling system on a full-time basis on the ATP Tour from 2025.
The ATP, which is the men's governing body, said the move will "optimise accuracy and consistency" in events.

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/65420666

What do they think about it? Will tennis lose its charm in this way?
I believe that the errors of the line judges were an integral part of the game, as in football, and that the line judges should remain.
I'm glad to hear that Wimbledon and the French Open don't want to change anything and will keep the line judges.
I think that the hundred years long tradition should not be changed and I hope that also some other tennis tournaments will decide to keep this tradition.

Today I have followed the match between Tiafoe and Etcheverry...
The USA Player has been able to win but in the second set it was seriously stressful to watch and odds (Tiafoe winner) has reached @1.65 even if he was on advantage of one set.

...Arnaldi backed at 5.0...
I haven't bet this time on him... but as usually I keep track of odds (also using betfair exchange to check odds of several players).
Well against Ruud it was not easy at all Roll Eyes

About Berrettini, a lot of people here in Italy continue to blame the current fiancèe of the player for current performance of player.

It will be better for tennis because their wont be anymore mistakes with faults and those things. Only bad thing is that a lot of people will lose their jobs and that is the only bad thing. It wont lose its charm because tennis would be a lot more fair and room for error.
