When I told my wife I was going to buy bit coins she was highly skeptical.  Then the next morning I sat down to look how bitcoins had done and my wife asked me what I was doing.  I said I was checking how my investment went and she started to say she was still skeptical.  I interrupted her with "it made us $700 dollars overnight"  Her skepticism disappeared completely.  Grin Grin Grin Shocked Shocked Shocked Tongue Tongue Tongue

Do you also tell her when it loses $700 overnight?  Or is that part a secret? lol

if that makes her skepticism go away she's not very smart.

well... it just means she's not knowledgable about trading and the fact that a single short term gain or loss is not meaningful.

Of course it does.   Speculative investment...whatever you want to call it.
It's the principle that assets fluctuate in value.

It's mostly about the mathematical notion of chance and more particular variance. Outcome doesn't always match the most likely outcome and estimating future outcome based on one point of measurement is silly. Further, especially when related to investments, the variance is rather large.

Yeah exactly. Well said.  When i was daytrading and had a good day my wife would say "let's see how you do over the next 3 months".

Are you currently putting all your money into bitcoin?  If you say this, you show you believe it by your actions.  I am putting all my money into bitcoin - I see a possibility of $50-$100+ per coin this year.  Just think, once the "bankers" and hedge funds find out about this, we are going to the moon.  Once my bitcoins are $1,000+ I will be able to pay off my growing college loans and maybe get an apartment, and my first car Smiley
I prefer having few and rare bitcoin, because if everyone can easily get it and use it. it is certain that the price will fall instead Smiley

I don't want to be the elite, I just want to be able to answer "What do you do for a living?" with "I go on vacation."

Well, it would definitely be something you do, but I'm not sure it qualifies as "for a living".

Demokrati: Två vargar och ett lamm röstar om lunchmenyn.      Democracy: Two wolfes and a lamb votes about the lunch menu.
Frihet: Ett väl beväpnat lamm opponerar sig mot omröstningen.  Freedom: A well armed lamb opposes the outcome.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

How about "I travel, and I find various new parts of the world to explore?"

Would that be "for a living?"

Well the expression "for a living" seems to ask how you earn your money, and I suppose a person could say that s/he invests and monitors his/her investment "for a living."

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Sounds good to me, I'll use that when that day comes.

I was just skimming through very old threads, its amazing how people used to talk about 100-1000btc (or more), like it was nothing. I hope for their sake they held on.

Hopefully in two years they'll say the same about "people who own 1 or more bitcoin"

Many of us didn't hold long enough; When the post-crash low was $1.99996, then ~$7.23 looked really high.

No Bitcoin holder yet has real money by global standards and we are a long way from that. An early miner/ investor with 20,000 coins is a whale -- but in global financial terms is a minnow and will be even when the price is higher.
