I would like to add: can you make it $25 instead of $10? It's the difference between using about 10 or about 25 GBYTE from the undistributed funds. Considering it's the World Crypto Economic Forum, $10 seems so low.

Disclaimer: I'm not at that conference!

A technical question: if I have a multi-signature wallet, do I need to point all devices to same hub?

No, they can be on diffferent hubs.

The market seems to be reacting positively to the upcoming promotional activities on Byteball. Was news about the upcoming promotion published elsewhere before today? That could explain the huge run up in price over the last couple of days.
If it was not, then it could be a classic case of traders with inside information lapping up cheap bytes.  Wink
Byteball was recently mentioned by Richard Heart and Max Keiser on the Keiser Report which could be a factor in recent market activity.

https://youtu.be/3qND1V9qDnQ?t=7m56s
Doubt it. Richard's been a public supporter of byteball for awhile now.

There's a very optimistic article about Byteball on the TheMerkle news web: https://themerkle.com/iota-raiblocks-whos-next-byteball/
It's nice to see that Byteball is getting more and more news coverage lately... it's a good marketing and hopefully many more new people will learn about it.

An update about our upcoming promotional activities.

1. Eli Taranto has joined our team as PR and Marketing director.
He has a strong track record in marketing, business development, and investor relations.
See his LinkedIn profile https://www.linkedin.com/in/eli-taranto/
He will be paid from the Community Fund

2. Steve will give a talk about Byteball at World Crypto Economic Forum in San Francisco http://wcef.co/ on January 15-16.
Eli will also be there, and there is a number of meetings planned in addition to the conference.
Unfortunately, I cannot attend as it was unrealistic to get a visa within such short time frame.
We sponsor WiFi at the conference.  This is paid from the Community Fund.

We will also send out $10 worth textcoins to all 1000 participants of the conference.  This will be paid from the undistributed funds.  And it is one of the new distribution methods.

3. I will speak at Altcoin Meetup in Zurich on February 2.  The meetup is organized by Bitcoin Association of Switzerland.

This is really great news!
- one of the missing ingredients so far is now in place.

Welcome Eli Taranto!

I am ready to assist in any way I can.

You may find this quite an authentic marketing possibility for a future portion of the remaining Bytes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7opnl4/bytes_accepted_here_contest_10000000_bytes_prize/dsgoj8c/
Allow me to quote the main part of this link:
Quote
What if… Byteball makes a special ‘Discover Byteball’ page where people can upload their contactlist with email addresses. Every email address you provide will receive 1 MB (± $0,70) via textcoin from this fund.
I see two main problems with this:
1. Basically, it's spamming people. And although that is a powerful method used by almost every social media website, I personally hate it when a company sends me an email because someone else leaked my email address.
2. It will be very easy to abuse. Giveaways in general are heavily abused, and if all that's required is an email address, many people will claim this many times.

I agree with LoyceV.  These emails must come from a known trusted sender.  It is either a person-to-person email/chat, or a mass mailing from a business/organization you already have some relations with.

Yes, absolutely true. Moreover, there is way and way to give something for free to people, if you do not do it properly people will just come to the conclusion that what they are getting has no value, even if it has some. So in terms of image it could actually harm the coin. Receiving Bytes for free must be felt like a privilege, otherwise it will produce a result which is opposite than the intended one.

Thank you both for responding, and I completely agree with your point about spam and abuse. The first method is way too spammy for my taste and for the ByteBall Brand. Invitations must come from a known and trusted person or entity. If anything like this were to be used, Conditions MUST be put in place to prevent that kind of abuse.

However, there was far more to that discussion than just that first post.
For the benefit of all who did not go deeper, here is more information about what many of us in the ByteBall community consider to be simply the most compelling, ethical and productive distribution method possible.

In essence: We have a very powerful tool and a Lot of leverage with Undistributed Bytes

a) Exchange Listings: What if an exchange was able to offer every one of their clients a little bit of "free money" and get some in return (say 10% of what is distributed to their clients for performing a service that ByteBall wants) - a little taste of ByteBall for all their clients as a promotion - do you think the Exchange would like that? I do. It would be a Fantastic No-Brainer Promotion that I would jump on in a second (good for them, good for us, good for everyone).

Imagine if we could sign up a couple million new users in a few weeks time by offering this to a few exchanges we feel are worthy. The Amounts Distributed could be too small and too diverse to make heavy selling a possibility (and why would they want to sell? - I think they would buy more Grin), the wallet would also then be in the hands of people who are already crypto enthusiasts - the exact people that can and will direct funds from other cryptos into Bytes, tell their crypto buddies about it and actually use Bytes in commerce. This is targeting at its finest.

b) Engage the Community in Distributions - to the Platforms Extreme Benefit
A similar kind of offer could be made to all ByteBall holders:

What if we set up a Smart Contract whereby a Byteballer Invites someone to participate, and gets a 10% refferal fee (or other percentage)? I don't personally know how to do that but someone around here must be able to come up with something that works. There must be ways to do similar things with Textcoin and many other features of the Tech. The perfect way to demonstrate the full spectrum of technology available on the ByteBall Olatform. We all know that once people actually experience the Wallet, they are converts. Perhaps the exact method I described is not viable as I'm more of a marketing guy, but surely our tech wizards can build variations that are.

What else could better engage commerce and unify the community in a potentially spectacular viral marketing campaign, promoting the actual real use of Bytes in our Economy?
Get the currency moving, building value. New Byte holders are immediately entitled to the same incentive. wow.

c) Merchants:
Why not offer this same concept to Merchants as well, so they can have a marketing tool not only for themselves, but for the ByteBall economy as a whole.
A Byteballer who Invites a new merchant into the Platform would get a percentage of the funds. This type of arrangement would recruit new merchants faster than anything else I can think of. This is a fantastic vehicle for coffee shops, boutiques and the like to promote their business with their customers. almost any business really. what a great marketing tool for them (and us).

The amounts of Bytes involved could vary, depending on the situation or type of buzz we want to create. Very Sweet I think.

We are about commerce, right?
This could be an honest to goodness (ethical) marketing machine like no other. It has the potential to go viral in a big way. What an amazing way to engage the community, demonstrate the technology and give the ByteBall economy a massive kick start all at once... and it could dovetail perfectly with a Strategic Marketing Plan. Simply Outstanding!

I believe what is outlined above is simply the Most Powerful Way to make Distribution Really Work to ByteBalls Complete Advantage.

Love to hear why this (or some variation thereof) is not a good ides.

It isn't about the amount or value - it's similar to a test-net in that the $10 should be used for testing purposes

It is good publicity for Byteball, but it is clearly mentioned that it is a sponsored article. Just curious, who sponsored this article? Was it part of the overall marketing effort or did some large byte holder do it?

Byteball is much more advanced and better than many projects which are occupying places from top positions on marketcap. There is lot of going on actively at marketing end and this was missing from it. Quality content needs little promotion to let others know about it and then it keeps on by its own.

Version 2.1 released: https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases

* Added ability to send all public assets as textcoins.  Previously it was available only for bytes.
* Added ability to remove the sent textcoins from the wallet, which allows to create paper wallets for cold storage.  The paper wallet is just the 12 words of the textcoin.  After writing it down (and optionally printing as QR code using any QR code generator), you delete the textcoin from the wallet to protect it from online threats.  Later, you can get this money back online by using Claim link on the Receive tab of the wallet and typing the 12 words.  If you don't plan to spend 90% of your balance in the near future, this is a way to keep it safer.
* Added dollar amounts in the texts that come with textcoins.  Those who receive textcoins via email, will have a better idea how much they received.
* Added dollar amounts in the display of wallet balances, transaction history, and fees.  The fees are particularly important.  I saw many people trying to get the dollar value of Byteball fees and almost always they were 2 or 3 zeros off.  The rates are updated from Bittrex and Freebe every 5 minutes.  Hub operators, please update your hubs.
* Fixed the remaining crashes in full wallets

Another small but important update: when a textcoin link is clicked on Android which doesn't have Byteball app installed yet, the user will be automatically redirected to our app on Google Play and the textcoin will be passed on to Google Play, then to the newly installed app, and claimed immediately after the wallet is created.  Which is a very smooth process for new users.

You are silently doing something great and I do hope you will get what you deserve for your work and committment to this project.
I am using the Byteball app with some friends where we chat together, bet together, share expenses together and that feels so great. I can't do the same with any other coin!
Thanks tony

Glad to hear!  Could you tell us more about this?  These real life stories are the most authentic marketing I can imagine.

Yes.
Before the Wavecrest issues we were using our Coinsbank cards to pay for groceries, pubs, food and stuff in the following way.
We had a multisig in place and when we agreed on the amount to pay we used Changelly to move bytes to ltc (therefore using ltc as a base currency for payments via coinsbank).

But I think the most interesting one was that we were betting against each other using those betting oracles in the bot store. And of course instead of using whatsapp/telegram ... we chat via the byteball app!

Exchange Listings: What if an exchange was able to offer every one of their clients a little bit of "free money" and get some in return (say 10% of what is distributed to their clients for performing a service that ByteBall wants) - a little taste of ByteBall for all their clients as a promotion - do you think the Exchange would like that?

I think KuCoin would a good and innovative Exchange for a Promotion on a way like this. KuCoin makes Offers and Promotions when she list new coins in the last time. Tonych can contact this Exchange with this Form.

what have you been smoking? Over the whole year there has barely been growth. A lot of people got months ago at 700$. Yes, if you got in late at 200$ maybe, but take a step back to see the bigger picture

I do. It would be a Fantastic No-Brainer Promotion that I would jump on in a second (good for them, good for us, good for everyone).
I've been thinking about this too, but I see several possible problems:
-it has to be an exchange with full KYC to prevent double accounts (people are already selling Binance accounts, and Bittrex for example has disabled all unverified accounts).
-you risk airdropping money on old unused accounts, basically just making the exchange richer.
-many people who "trade altcoins" on exchanges don't ever install a wallet on their own. Even if giving more free money to more traders can pump up the price, it doesn't accomplish Tony's goal of getting actual users to really use the wallet.
-you have to trust the exchange, you can't verify how many users they have.

Imagine if we could sign up a couple million new users in a few weeks time by offering this to a few exchanges we feel are worthy.
Reaching millions is the dream! The Transition Bot currently shows only 69249 entries, and that includes many people with more than one address. Giving away many millions of dollars worth of Bytes and Blackbytes didn't reach that many people, and yet, this little number of people already lead to a great value.

Quote
What if we set up a Smart Contract whereby a Byteballer Invites someone to participate, and gets a 10% refferal fee (or other percentage)?
This has the same problem of abuse: how do you know they're not just referring themselves? I alone have installed at least 7 wallets already!

I think the best advertising for any product is mouth to mouth marketing. Most Byteball users got many bytes for free. Just send some textcoins to people you think might like it, and let Byteball roll!

Here is your link to receive 66666 Bytes (≈0.07 USD): https://byteball.org/openapp.html#textcoin?foam-end-need-verify-chalk-jelly-assume-return-clutch-strike-crew-cave

Hi All,

Newbie on Forum = YES!
Crypto < 6 months Byteball < 2 months.

Wanted to post that since stumbling across ByteBall I have fallen for it, spread the word to my friends & family by donating some bytes and managed to get a few of them on board while a few others need more time Smiley We get involved sending money to eachother, chatting and using the bots.

I had a few questions in regards to the project. I work as a securities trader and the CFD trading bot has really caught my eye. ( yes i know how much all of you hate banks/corporations but it all needs to start somewhere).
My questions were:
are we expecting to see more cryptos to trade CFDs vs BB?
are we likely to see a CFD platform on financial products / indices / commodities  vs BB or fiat and the payout would be in BB?

Also, for my betting if the specific bet is on Bettingbot i will certainly go through there otherwise just use my own betting site.
What is the capacity here in growing out the markets for each betting event (Over x goals, under x points)? I know there's a way to make the contract yourself ( Haven't had the time to explore this due to my time constraint) but adding this to the BettingBot would be super cool  Grin

I understand with the amount of work ongoing and all the avenues being explored this isn't on the priority list but just a thought.

Overall, love the project.

Peace
