I think a slow ramp up in reward for those joining in the middle of a block would deter hoppers and reward the loyal, kind of reverse of what we have now.
Wait, do people not know how this pool scoring works? Shares contributed at the very start of the window come easily, they have a low computational cost, and therefore, a lower score. Shares later cost more to calculate, and so have a higher score. Each hash is scored, the sum of all the hash scores added up, the block reward divided up (minus the pool fee) between all scores, and you get the proprtion of (your score / pool score) for a given block. The only way someone jumping in at the end of the block gets the same reward as someone that started at the beginning is if that person has VASTLY more compute power available - and in that case, if they'd been in at the start of the block, they have gotten way more than the original full-time person anyway, because they calculate more hashes per second.

Uhmm...your entire first bit is completely wrong. The shares do not come more easily or take any more time to calculate at any point during the round. Score based payment is purely a way to discourage people from leaving the pool, by making your previous work worthless. The work done is no harder at any point in a round. The slush payment method is hoppable, though not as badly as the old proportional systems. However, the concept of pool hopping to increase profits is basically dead since there are no pools large enough with a hoppable method to make it worth the trouble.

Many of us slush pool regulars have noticed when a pool/group of miners (or even a single miner with huge hashrate) failes over to the slush pool...those of us mining regularly almost always see our estimated payouts (for current round) decrease almost immediately after previously mentioned miners failover etc.
Just saying. I am not switching anytime soon.

what really sucks about slush method is if your miner goes down in last part of round and you don't catch it in time, you get nothing for last 6hrs or work,, DOH!

hmm...not at home ...checking remotely..but the one before and after are fine...weird...anyone else seeing the same?
not a big deal..but problems that show up resolve (on the next run thru) themselves are always a bit odd

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

Similar here and there is a spike on my backup pool, so it was caused from a connectivity problems (from EU?) to the pool

Hi all, I started yesterday mining primarily on slush's pool. I'm too new to know what happened but I woke to alarms from my AntMiner S2 in the middle of the night (06:00 GMT). It was practically stopped, not recovering but saying both pools were still live. Not thinking well I didn't save details (how is the best way?), thought I saw things like one fan rpm too low, but the max temp reading was 53c so not overheated.
Finally rebooted the whole miner then it came up saying slush's was dead and went to work on my backup pool (wasn't about to swith until I manually rebooted). Hours later I checked, slush's was back up hashing.
Could this be related to trouble seen by others or just me?

the one before and after are fine If you calculate the number of your shares as a percentage of the total for each round, you will see that it is nearly double for 22219 compared to the two following rounds. That suggests to me that something somewhere borked, maybe more than once. It's possible that it happened very close to the end of 22219, recovered and failed again during 22220, and finally recovered partway through 22221; that pattern could account for no reward in 22220, and the reward in 22221 being higher than 22219 despite having a smaller percentage of shares. My own stats also show a big drop in shares credited during 22220, although my reward fell to about 1/3 normal which is at least better than zero; my rewards for 22219 and 22221 look okay. At the time of writing my hash rate for both Slush and BTCguild is running at about half of what it should be, even allowing for the busy time of day (evening in the UK), but Scryptguild is chugging away happily using the GPU on the same PC. Knowing my luck, we'll have a run of success while my hash rate is bumping along the floor.

Hello,
Been lurking and learning for a few weeks now, many thanks to all
Especially Slush.
After reading almost every page on this forum, I had to try mining here with my toe in the water small GH's gear I have.
Just wondering, would this be right?

Hi You may have stop mining/had a connexion issue, before the end of the block, compare your share on #22224 with the #22226 your amount of shares is under Half for about same time. This is part of Slush system (you can mine during a block but you must be mining when this block is finished, else your reward is largely reduced)

Agreed happened 2 times for me .. the last time , connection bugged 4 minutes before end of block Maybe we should just be able to E-MAIL Slush and let them know that it was a power outtage and that we weren't "hopping", and he'll just "fix it". Or maybe that would just get too much abuse. I'll just live with it the way it is...................
