So should I begin migration of the site?

Pretty sure there is a line of communication with the site admin, lobois1337, yet a backup in hand could always get a guy a reward up the road if it is just an automated process. Wink

Let me explore contacting the present site admin before we award bounties, thanks.

Hello again after a very long time.

I finally found my way back here, it has been a couple of years and I am really sorry I haven't been around, we had some pretty serious family stuff going on. I now have to set everything back up again.

I don't know if anyone will remember me, I was melodiem. I got an email from Nova chasing up Devtome admins (thanks Nova, I needed a kick) and I have managed to sign back into devtome and deleted the devcoin address my coins were going to. (hoping the thief gets some use out of them and karma slaps him around a bit!) I had lots of trouble getting back into this forum (the devcoin.org forum doesnt seem to be up?) but a new username seems to have fixed that  but now I have hit a snag.

In all the drama here my computer was stolen with my devcoin wallet on it so I am trying to setup a new one. I downloaded the windows one from devcoin.org but it wouldn't connect, it says no connection available so after uninstalling and reinstalling a few times I then downloaded the one from darkgamex but it wont connect either. Can someone help me sort this out?

I know I was all over this a few years ago but I have to admit I am feeling very much like a noob and I need some help.

We are on cyclone watch up here right now and I have to go move a boat tomorrow so I wont be able to check back for a couple of days but I promise to be back and to be just as annoying as ever Smiley

I still love everything Devcoin stands for and hope I can help the community in positive ways

Melodie

Soo nice to hear from you, Melodie. Somehow your great misadventure with your wallet was unknown to me (or forgotten as there is the senior's moment plea now available to me. Smiley ). Don't forget to get your new DVC address on your profile. Old wallets are getting dusted off. Wink

Just received word back from Devtome Administrator. They do not want to see DevTome lost either and will aid in any way that they can. It is costing them at the moment to host it.

That is good news too!

So it seems that we need to offer some bounties for

1) Ongoing hosting of the devtome.com server
2) Ongoing Administration of the Devtome.com server (since it might be different than the hosting provider)
3) Coordination between existing and new devtome.com administrators and the migration of data from the old and new servers

What bounty values are we proposing for these ?

Did I miss any?

Definitely too much invested in DevTome to throw it away at this point. We might want to to look into creating an AdSense compliant content branch so that it can begin generating some cash flow as promised, though. We may want to think of some uses of blockchain that have come to be since DVC's conception. Chains like steem, for example. Could there be something that the DVC blockchain could bring to the alt coin table that is not already there?

One reason advertisers gave for not advertising on devtome is that it is about everything, and many advertisers prefer sites focusing on one topic.

To give advertisers the focus they want, an open source blog website could be made. Writers would have their own blogs, and those blogs that became popular would get advertisers, and that money would go to those writers. The content on all blogs would be mirrored on devtome. This way the writers would get advertising money, and devtome would get more content.

To start, maybe the blogs could be on Steemit, expanding what develCuy is doing. Eventually it would probably be best to make our own blog site, so people would know that everything on the domain would be open source.

This is very interesting, so if we manage for instance to have a multidomain hosting, we could eventually build something like instructables.com or ehow.com and add up to the existing ones and get money!

This is a nice a idea, but I was thinking if we should take our content from devtome and paste it on steemit or if there's a way to piggback on it from devtome. How does this work?

I was just wondering what the status is on getting a DVC market up on CoinsControl. I was not able to find a DVC market either in BTC or LTC, but it's possible I missed it. Does anyone have a link to any DVC market on CoinsControl?

Coinscontrol listing was delayed again for wallet sync trouble.  This is a problem holding back all potential exchange listings at this point

The new receiver files have a problem at receiver_48.csv

If you are hosting receiver files, please contact Unthinkingbit for an update

When those updated receiver files are in place, we can retest the full wallet sync.

Writers would post wherever they prefer. In the beginning, they would manually copy and paste it over to the other platform. Copying is a lot faster than writing so this is good enough to start. In the future, an administrator would use a script to copy over everything, maybe once a month.

I've been cross posting some of my articles from Devtome to Steemit and as long as you insert a link to the original article and a link to creative commons license you should have no issues.  Steemit has a bot actively looking for plagiarism and if you forget to place a link it can leave a comment on your post insinuating it may be plagiarized.  Just a heads up.

I see I'm the holdup again. I just now uploaded the new receiver 48 file. Hope that helps.

Hi wiser!

Just back from visiting my daughter. Tried setting up a wallet a few hours ago on her Windows 10 machine, using ctya's fix. After running setup.bat and following the other steps we were getting the following errors:

No block source available.... (Bottom left of wallet interface)

Out of sync (for wallet and recent transactions areas when at three weeks behind present time)

Do you think your recent fix may have been the stickler from earlier today?

That is around the time I made the recovery zip file so it might need to be updated since the receiver files are all different now.

I downloaded the windows wallet from devcoin.org today and tried to full sync again.

It is still stopping at receiver_48.csv and hanging there

Hi Nova, I'm sorry you had trouble with setting up your daughter's wallet. I have no idea if the new receiver file I added is what messed it up. I just uploaded the file I was given. I don't actually know how it works on a technical level. My wallet seems to be working fine, but I've had it installed for a long time.

I'll try to stay on top of this thread and my messages here in case I need to make any more changes to receiver files on my repository.

Guys, did you see this?: https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/cyber/information-on-coingather-com-seizure

I want to file the form, but I'm still hesitant to do it, specially that I'm not from USA. I hope you find it useful.

That's an interesting dilemma, because for the people who had funds on CoinGather at the time of the seizure, the loss of funds (or at least the loss of funds access) happened as a result of the seizure itself, not from any actions on CoinGather's part. I'd be interested in knowing if submitting that form results in recovery of funds for anyone.
