There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

ok so i got the blockchain downloading again past block 359999 (10 weeks behind) by manually downloading the receiver file 90 and starting devcoin client.

direct download can be done here: http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/receiver_90.csv or here: http://devcoinpool.btc-music.com/receiver/receiver_90.csv

blockchain fully synced after dropping the receiver files.

Any questions or issues please let me know.

I'm having wallet issues now too. I got beyond the point you did, FuzzyBear, but got stuck further down--block 36999 or something. So I tried to manually download receiver 91 (replaced what was in my folder with one I downloaded from the direct download site (only changed to be receiver 91). The next time I ran my wallet, I got the "failed to connect to best block" error message. So I thought, great, I've corrupted the block chain. I deleted all but wallet.dat and tried again. It won't get past block zero now. I tried to shut down wallet and restart. That gave me the failed to connect error message again. Deleted everything, trying again, stuck on block zero (for now). I'm going to walk away and come back (and if it starts syncing I'll post an update). If it stays stuck on block zero, what are the steps I can take to get my wallet working again?

Edit: It's also stuck on only one active connection to network.

Edit: I restored the original peers file to see if that would help. My wallet now has 2 active connections and is still stuck on block zero. I'm running out of ideas. Please help.

Edit: 4 active connections now. still stuck on block 0. Maybe it's just slow?

My wallet is up to 11 active connections and still stuck on block zero. I've worked with a lot of QT wallets but this is a new wrinkle for me. What do I do?

Hey thanks! I'll try that. Will the username and password have to be the same as my wallet password, or just something I choose for that purpose only?

So I did this and the wallet very quickly made 8 connections with the devcoin network. So far (after about 5 minutes) it is still stuck on block 0, though. I'll let it run for an hour or two and post if it starts downloading blocks. If it doesn't download blocks, do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Well, I had to go to work on Sunday and I left my wallet open and finally noticed it this morning and lo and behold it is downloading blocks. So, I'm hoping for the best. If it stalls or something I'll try your second suggestion.

My current problem, though, is I tried to send out some DVC and after an hour the transaction is not confirming either in the wallet or on the receiving end. Is it just a slow block, or is there another problem? My wallet is indicating that it's synced up at block 370586.

I closed my wallet and then re-opened it and it caught up 2 hours of blocks, so it's now on 370595, but the transaction has not confirmed. I will wait and see if it sends out on the next block. Otherwise, it would seem that my wallet can download blocks but doesn't seem to keep syncing while opened? That would mean I can read my wallet but can't actually use it. Hmmm...

Update: looks like the transaction sent. It's showing 1 of 6 confirmations and the wallet has advanced by a block. So, looks like it glitched but is working properly. Phew!

I just created a new Devcoin telegram chat. we need some tech people to help spread the word. I think this is a good project yet it has no traction, I am in a lot of active groups who are looking for the next best thing and i think devcoin is it. Help me spread the word in the social media aspect. lets educate the world!

lets work out a reward mechanism for this group to create content and pay out in devcoin from the foundation? is that able to be done?

i will stake real money right now to help the project grow.

lets face it, the twitter kind of sucks. lets get some engagement and wake this giant!!! who is with me?

The recent interest in Devcoin was obviously sparked by Dan Treccia’s Medium articles. Other than calling him names nobody has refuted his theory. Can MarkM or Unthinkingbit comment on his research regarding DVC, here I primarily refer to https://medium.com/@danieltreccia/devcoins-are-bitcoins-newly-generated-coins-66ef6795fe39

He seems to be a loony. Utterly weird utterly wrong "theories".

At least if you're still on about the same guy who rants about IXCoin secretly creating bitcoins and weird stuff like that?
