HashFast is asking me to write a miner frontend a la GUIMiner, so I may be doing that in the near future if they can get me out a test unit soon.

OMG, I can't believe the stupidities they are wasting their energy on. Who in his right might needs a GUI for high-end mining device? Who would trust a GUI to run their mining daemon? You do such a things in a console for high reliability and easy maintenance.

I'm all for giving HF enough leash to finish what they are doing, but this just pisses me off.

KNC and Bitfury have GUIs.

Have you read the post I've replied to? GUIMiner is a god damned desktop app. KnC and Bitfury don't have any desktop app, for simple reason their users would hate it. They have HTML wrapper around cgminer RPC interface.

Nevertheless it's not important since tacotime clarified it is not "a la GUIMiner" as he originally posted, it's rather some kind of a script generator. God only knows who needs a script generator for a few options added to cgminer command line.

Isn't GUIMiner just a wrapper for CGMiner anyways?

No, standalone desktop application.

I actually think it is a wrapper, yes its an application but its just cgminer with a gui overlay.

Yes, it is. It's only standalone because it installs its own copy of cgminer.

By ensuring their customers can start mining ASAP, HashFast is going the extra mile to help them achieve maximum ROI.

How presumptuous of you to speak for all KnC and Bitfury users, and all GUI users as well (Bitminter, anyone?).

BFL also has a desktop app.  Not all ASIC buyers have previous experience with mining, much less know the arcane workings of cgminer.

Bitcoin is capturing the attention of the world and many new people are coming on board.  That's A Good Thing!   Cool

You should make efforts to welcome them and assist them, not be a snotty snob and look down on them for using a GUI.

Why don't you go on Tacotime's GUI-scrypt miner or Litecoin mining guide thread and take your 'ZOMG YOU STOOPID NEWBS FOAD' attitude with you?

Or better yet, go to the newbie boards and belittle new users for simply being new and needing some training wheels to get started.

You're pretty new also itod, with your K-LAME 2013 sign-up date.  And you're already acting like you helped Satoshi with beta testing.  Nice.   Grin

well assuming they ship out all the chips to the packing facility and they start on monday they could have the units all done and shipped out by the end of the week.

@hashfast, since it looks like no one will be making a full payback while mining, when will we get our extra hashing power?

What has my sign-up date do with what's optimal solution for running 24/7, 365 days a year software service? One thing is certain: Desktop application is not such a solution. That's the reason original client has command line bitcoind with the same functionality as Bitocoin-QT gui, but with all the goodies command line brings with it. Nobody with IT experience will ever trust his money to desktop app to run 24/7. Advising noobs to do such a thing is a vary bad service to them.

So what exactly does that mean?? Does it mean the chips are ready to be sent out to Ciara so they can build the miners?? or am I missing a few steps?

My guess is it means they are ready to build the PCBs whom ever will be doing that.

Which leads me to ask again, what is the mining interface/controller? After all the baby jet was supposed to be self contained miner.

At one point they said the controller for BabyJets was supposed to be a RasberryPi with minepeon.  For the Sierras, the customer has to provide their own host server.  Who knows if that is still accurate.

HashFast uses a standard USB interface.

Anything that runs cgminer will work as a BabyJet controller.

"Bitcoin enables ordinary people to fight back, to avoid and evade snooping governments, which enact, use and abuse laws that allow them, without due process, to investigate, tax, control and seize privately owned assets."  -   Leon Louw

“We can say without equivocation that firms like MasterCard, Visa and the TBTF banks like JPMorgan and Goldman hate the idea of ever having to compete for business again. They have grown comfortable in their corrupt world of writing laws for themselves without any regulatory oversight. They enjoy the exorbitant privilege of bilking the American economy with extortionary transaction rates. They are scared of Bitcoin. And they should be. It offers transparency, cost efficiency and anonymity.” - Max Kaiser

Yes, but what controller is going to be included with the baby jet? Or are you now saying we have to supply our own?

The BJ should have a RPi controller integrated.

So, what does that mean that chips are ready for pickup from 3PM today? Are you calling DHL to have them delivered on your assembly house by monday?

I am guessing there are still an number of steps left before Ciarra gets shipped boards.

Here is my made up list of steps remaining -- all dates airpicked:
1) Chips picked up from substrate contractor (Saturday 12/7)
2) Chips assembled on release candidate prototype board (12/7)
3) Candidate Board design finalized (12/10)
4) Candidate board design and chips sent to PCB assembler (12/11)
5) Finalized boards shipped to ciarra (12/16)
6) Ciarra assembly begins (12/17)
7) Ciarra completes assembly (12/27?)

End of the year is looking pretty tight.

not sure about the other points, but ciara will definitely not need 10 days for assembling

its the whole point of using such a factory that they speed up the process significantly. knc needed 2 days from getting chips to shipping first miners. i expect ciara to ship inert 1 or 2 days and to complete the whole batch inert 4 days max.

So... the other dates look reasonable?

We haven't heard about any PCB testing... but I assume they will be able to work through any last minute issues in a day or two.
I guess by Monday, we should know how good the chips are... I don't know if Icedrill will be getting straight chips or they will be using hash modules produced by HF.  Either way, I imagine once the boards are finalized, it can't take more than a 5 days to get the PCBs with chips populated and assembled.

Not sure when software needs to be finalized, but software can be updated in the field if images are made publicly available.

I think they have finalized their design, but they need to be tested with the chips.  My guess is that test with production chips, will reveal some small changes will be needed.  I don't think it will be as drastic as Bitfury's 1/2 the anticipated hash rate (2.5GH vs 5GH), but it will require some tweaking... figuring 1 to 2 days.
