The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

People have been complaining about their little nxts are not forging anything. Nodecoin was to incentivize those complainers/miners to run their nxt nodes. I'm just wondering
if receiving something called nodecoins is enough to keep everyone who complained forging?

Anyway, yes lets move on. Nodecoins are here and lets hope it does as intended. Great work James

Just to inform, I'm not against it and support James work. Maybe I didn't see the whole picture of nodecoin.

I think since nodecoins are rewards for running nodes for nxt maybe we should come up with a way to reward nodecoins. Like some math guy come up with a proper reward
threshold in nxt for a certain amount of nodecoins. We can setup an automatic payout in nxt for nodecoins and fund it by donations or whatever. That way people will always
run nodes because they get free nodecoins which even if a little will be converted to nxt via a gateway or whatever as guaranteed reward.

No, it needs to be self-sustaining.

That would be ideal. But if it isn't and nobody cares about nodecoins then maybe plan B is a direct exchange nodecoins for nxt? For example 10,000 nodecoins for 10 nxt? As nxt increases in value the nodecoin/nxt ratio reward would go down obviously.

Of course this will not last forever. Once nxt is a powerhouse with high value and tons of businesses securing the network nodecoins will not be needed anymore. So we would not
need to have a nodecoin/nxt reward gateway anymore. And by then if nodecoins by themselves happen to have trading value then thats great.

It could be self-sustaining, but we can push the price a bit, by burning NodeCoins with donations. How about that?

Given that hacking a wallet file has the additional step of getting a copy of the wallet file, by how many bits of entropy should the password of the wallet file be protected?

Is wallet file encrypted by user password before you safe it to hard drive?

Yes. Wallet holds account-account secret pairs, with the account secrets having 128 bits of entropy and the wallet file being encrypted with a wallet password of X bits of entropy. Wallet password is generated, but the user can set the wanted entropy.

The user should be able to choose his own encryption password. He is more likely to remember it. Yes there is a risk, but the only way he can lose it if there is a torjan/keylogger on his machine that steals wallet file. And if that happens, longer generated password ism't going to help.

definitely clever as it really hits home the point of NXT and its capabilities in the first place.

The problem with taking my suggestion seriously is that it will cause confusion chaos in china where it seems they like to call it nxtcoin. My suggestion was more a fantasy as I
cringe whenever I hear someone call Nxt nxtcoin. But we do need to emphasize NXT is not a coin it is a galaxy.

Hi guys,

This is Nodecoin, that James has developed. We need to test it, but I have no idea how I should make it work on Windows:

It is for testnet the following is how to get it compiled and running from command line

git clone https://github.com/jl777/multigateway
cd multigateway
chmod +x run.sh
./run.sh
./nodeminer <NXTacct> <passphrase>

I cloned it to my drive, but what now?
Any suggestions?

I have compiled and uploaded with *.exe files. hopefully it works on windows... James, maybe you can include compiled versions as well?!

1. Download  http://dropcanvas.com/vo0sr and extract archive
2. open extracted folder and hold SHIFT and right mouse -> select "Open command window here"

3. type
Code:
nodeminer.exe <NXTacct> <passphrase>

NB, you should be running testnet on your system for script to work.

his last words were - we are waiting one week to collect any objections (like when voting code was also sent to Kattywampus, who is also CoinTropolis_NiftyNikel or to PeercoinEnthusiast, who is also CoinTropolis_JustaBitTime) (- but these voted once.)

Nxt did well during those two weeks. I think our problem has been we needed a dictator until we were ready for the coming out party. Our lord Superman left us for Krypton
to "find himself" and Nxt/Earth has been in disarray every since. Rickyjames dictated us to make committees and it worked. Maybe Superman will return after realizing there
is nothing left of Krypton for him and that his home is on Earth/Nxt. BCNext please tell us what do??? Come back to us!!!!!! Baaaaa Baaaaa

I actually was thinking that we should revisit our reluctance to call NXT by the name "NXTcoin".  My understanding is that BTCNext was the one who specified "NXT" without a "coin" - but he's long gone.  Rebranding to include "NXT" and "NXTcoin" as being associated / identical might be a good thing.  NXT could refer to all the financial services we provide in our clients, using NXTcoin as an internal payment token.  The main reason to do this is so new folks recognize that we ARE a coin.
