I don't think we need a poll

i've been following this thread since december, the fee discussion was debated so many times so far, that i believe this should be left to the dev team to decide. There are a few subjects that seem to derail the conversation completely.
I feel that, like daedalus said, since there appears at least one technical solution the tech guys could settle this for us.
Just a sardines' opinion.

is what I did yesterday. I send a proposal to the dev team decides to

focus an the people that have full faith in your abilities an forget about the rest...

I think this advise is bad.

James should do what he thinks is right, but ignoring skeptics and opinions is wrong. "Yeah, just do your thing. Because you are god and always right" Huh

Any updates on wesleys client? When shall it replace NRS?

The NxtWallet for OSX was so brilliantly easy and user-friendly to install and use I could see anyone using it.

IMHO improving the user experience should be a top priority at this point. Smiley

I will release an update today if all goes well and it should be included in one of the next versions of NRS too. Jean luc decides when.

What is the logic behind allowing multiple assets with the same name?
How are client developers supposed to deal with this?
Assets have a unique identifying ID. There's really not much reason to restrict to unique names. I have proposed a way to for asset issuers to assign themselves company names, attach images, etc.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1FsyumJLmQ9ckLNkHlmW1oPRGOoK3oAg_pVjFz3s0fNw/edit#slide=id.g1ce2334a0_00
With tags and sorting, I think the AE will be rather organized.
Pandaisftw

Wow, you have put a lot of work into that. Is there any consensus on this is this being implemented? I was thinking of a similar scheme which (obviously) I think is better Wink Is this being implemented in the reference client?

James, I am not going to question or even comment further on any of your ideas.  It seems to me that every time I do, you take it as distracting  neanderthal personal attack and threaten to quit NXT development because both your work and your vision for NXT is so unappreciated.  This is never my intention.  I have only intended to initiate respectful, honest debate on critically important topics.

I do not believe it is appropriate that you have someone you apparently consider to be an ongoing adversary to serve as a treasurer for the funds you control.  Please identify whom you trust to serve in this role and upon their concurrence I will deliver to them passcodes to NXTcommunityfunds, NXTcashoperatingfund and NXTcashcompletionfund.

Best wishes to you and to NXT.

Poll has been locked as requested.  My request to James that he identify an alternate treasurer stands.

Woh, back-up rickyjames!! James is taking a break from this thread for 1 week. Consider leaving this decision for when he gets back. You guys might not agree on everything, but both you and James are hugely respected in the NXT community. The 'best wishes to you and to NXT' has me freaked a bit.

Ricky I would appreciate if you return the NXTcashoperatingfund to me because I decided to give this 1M NXT to a common fund the early adopters/big stakeholders committee will form (official announcement in the following hours) so it can be handled by the community for various projects (including anonymity features) - better to do it more officially rather than James handling the whole chunk, I am sure he will agree..

EDIT: The community should be aware that a big part of the early adopters will ONLY fund from now on in this way - the committee is made exactly for this reason, transparency, fairness and optimal management of resources (both ours and the community's).

Please listen to James.

Here is a chart I made using the top 7 Bitcoin exchanges. I pulled the data from bitcoincharts.com/markets.

"BTC Sell order move price 10%" is the amount of BTC you would have to sell to drop the price 10% on that exchange.
"BTC Buy order move price 10%" is the amount of BTC you would have to buy to raise the price 10% on that exchange.
"USD Equivalent" is the USD equivalent of making those purchases and sales, and accounts for slippage.

What this means is that with less than $10 million worth of trading action, you can immediately move the bitcoin price 10% and throw the markets into chaos.

THIS IS WITH THE 800 POUND CRYPTO GORILLA: BITCOIN

Bitcoin has a $7.3 billion market cap.

Trading 0.14% of Bitcoin's total market cap will cause havoc.

$10 million is peanuts to big financial interests.

Big money will not touch NXT for trading commodities.

Do the math!
Thank you for the support. (and buybitcoinscanada and brooklyn)

However it seems that a lot of people here simply want a 1.0 coin and not a platform.

I get the feeling that everytime I come up with a cool new feature, a lot of people will get upset and I am not sure what to do. With NXT I can do almost anything and I am in the process of designing a set of features that will put NXT so far ahead of all the other cryptos, but now I am having second thoughts.

Why bother. It will probably just get shouted down because nobody has ever done it before, or it will "kill NXT" by some magical illogical means. But that is what I do. I come  up with stuff nobody has ever done before that the MARKET wants. It is a combined tech/marketing thing that I have the  knack for. Probably because I have done a lot of tech marketing and a lot of coding and a fair amount of trading. Kind of a unique combination.

Remember when I said I wanted to do a gateway. Yawns, boredem. Centralized, yada, yada. Well I thought I could make a gateway that was a cut above the centralized exchanges and after an incredibly long period of four weeks I am close to a beta release of a fragmented automated multisig gateway. To my defense, I have been sidetracked for a significant part of that time simply defending myself from attacks. I did also release the "coin that shall not be named". Not sure if anybody ever said it couldnt be done, but people wanted a way to reinforce forging and it solves that.

Now I am writing all this software. Some of it will require support in the NXT core, most of it wont. I think I will simply stop posting any details about anything. There is no point when math gets debated. I just see math where others see, I dont know what. Every time this sort of thing happens, I lose the positive state of mind that is needed for this type of cutting edge work.

I cannot keep fighting over each and every feature that i need to support what I am doing. I am not asking for NXT AE to be changed to be denominated in NXT. I am just asking for the ability to be able to have the option to denominate trades in some other asset. Certainly with the neanderthal mindset that nodecoin will somehow kill NXT, doing anything like this will certainly put a stake through its heart.

Here is the plan. I will make a short list of things that I need to implement what I am working on, it will be something like:

1. comment field in asset transfer (this I need to 100% correlate gateway deposit transfers to deposits) I hope this wont cause NXT to explode too.

2. Fractional assets

3. the ability to denominate AE trades in other assets

4. some special NXT acct to be used for mixing and/or NXTcash, needs a little support in the core, not much

5. tbd. probably a few more small changes, not sure yet as I am still not done with the full design

Am I asking for too much?

Unlike most people, I am working night and day on NXT. I am writing a lot of code. I am adding features to NXT that no other crypto has. I have not disclosed all the features it will have as I have not been very encouraged by the reception so far of what I thought was noncontroversial features. It must be so easy to complain about everything. I try to be positive. I try to stay focused. While what I am doing is not exactly what BCNext envisioned, I believe it is in the same spirit and I am trying to complete as much of the feature checklist as I can, as fast as I can.

Please start a poll on whether you want NXT to be a platform or a 1.0 type of coin or some magical mystical fairytale impossibility. I can do platform, you dont need me for 1.0 type coin, the last one is beyond me.

James

Maybe thats the limits of these threads and forums. Considering the majority of the readers here do not code/program, theres limited positive input you should expect back. Do you actually need to debate? Is it really a necessary function for you to seek absolute engagement, to produce what you envisage? I think at this stage, many people will respect a "this is what ive produced, take it or leave it".
If you are disallusioned, theres not much hope, for the people struggling to follow this development.

Release 0.8.12

http://download.nxtcrypto.org/nxt-client-0.8.12.zip

sha256: 1f9cd574914fef3ff0528cceee6b264876f90b763881b50dc1a196dbfb9598d5

Change log:

This release is only about testing and debugging. There is no need to
upgrade if you are not interested in doing testing.

Added DebugTrace.java, which uses listeners to monitor all changes to
account balances and asset balances, and all the events that cause
those changes - transactions, block generation fees, order placement,
asset issuance, asset transfer, order cancellation, trade.

This feature uses two new properties in nxt-default.properties:
nxt.debugTraceLog=nxt.trace
nxt.debugTraceAccounts=

To enable tracing of account balances, set nxt.debugTraceAccounts to
a list of account id's to be tracked, separated by "; " . The output
will be saved to nxt.trace, or the file defined in nxt.debugTraceLog.
Values in this file are tab-separated, to make it easy to import into
a spreadsheet application.

It is possible to enable tracing of all existing account balances, by
setting nxt.debugTraceAccount=* .

On restart, and also on rescan, the nxt.trace log will be overwritten.

Added VerifyTrace.java, which can parse the nxt.trace file (or a file
specified as a command line argument), and perform some verifications.
Currently, it verifies that for each traced account, the final balance
matches the total of all changes that affect that account, as
recorded in the nxt.trace log. It also verifies that for each asset,
the total of asset quantities in all accounts matches the original
quantity of asset issued. This verification can be expected to fail if
not all accounts that own an asset are included in debugTraceAccounts.

To run VerifyTrace, use the verify.sh script. The Nxt server should be
stopped first, so that the nxt.trace log does not continue to be
updated while VerifyTrace is verifying it.

Unconfirmed balances and unconfirmed asset balances are logged, but
not verified by VerifyTrace, because the presense of open or partially
filled orders can make that too complicated. It may be easier to
program a spreadsheet application to handle such calculations.

Added TRADE event, triggered when a Trade occurs. Note that the Trade
event happens before the update of the account balances.

Added BEFORE_BLOCK_APPLY and BEFORE_BLOCK_UNDO events, triggered just
before the corresponding operations in block processing.

Ricky, you are a thoughtful guy so I presume this isn't just a personality clash? You shouldn't go, you have been an anchor for a long time. Of course, if some insidious large NXT holders wanted to ensure your scenario, all they would have to do is offer a matching donation of NXT to the mining outputs.

I think just a % above to ensure highest ROI would do the trick, and be sustainable for the longest period.  Then again, I might just be thinking this way because I'm already completely jealous of those of you who can mine in these NXT pools.

Let's not panic and read what he writes Smiley
He isn't going away, he is just being who he is and that means "integrity". He feels he can't do his job right in this way where treasurer and disburser are at odds. Smiley
