If it's any consolation (although I haven't got any) there's only 1 asset class in the world right now that's doing anything other than nosedive...

I'm not a bot. I'll be honest.

I made around $20k when the big DRK pump happened. Exited then. Never touched it ever again.
Not willing to waste my time debating delusional bagholders who're afraid for their investments.
Been there. It's boring.

Regarding my vocabulary, lol. I am fluent in 6 languages. How about you, Johnny English?

Hope this post works like a chill pill for you.
Yeah but Klingon, ebonics and Huttese (Jabba the hut) don't count, sorry.

Which are the coins and development teams that will remain standing and united after this?  I am sure DRK will be one of those. DRK will endure.

Fantastic point !

And on that note, time for some music while we're waiting for the capsised mothership to right itself and for our hard working leaders to roll out some wicked new tech for Darkcoin.

This band is from Iceland - a country that's partial to the odd financial crash of its own. Despite that they still produce pretty good musicians, so keep the faith !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVb4C3ECWLw

(Best viewed @ 1080 RES on your HD 32'' Thunderbolt/Dell/Samsung/whatever and a pair of Harman Kandon soundsticks or equivalent).

P.S. While you're listening to that, have a read of Simon Dixon's great commentary on the current situation which will also cheer you up.

Toknormal and Minotaur26 have been adding some great perspective, and I would like to add a bit more food for thought.

Consider why you are here--just what is your interest in DRK? If your primary goal is to earn more fiat than you put into DRK, then you are an investor. If you are primarily here because of what you can do with the coin, and a general philosophical identification with the goals and ideals of the DRK dev. team, you are a true believer. Yes, there is certainly an overlap in each of these categories, and hence my emphasis on primarily.

Please note that only in the first case is there a clear justification for linking value and price, in fact each of those motivations are different sides of the same coin. Wink Historically, the value of any commodity is first perceived and set by the second group, and only later by the others. Think of IBM, Xerox, Google, BTC, or even gold and silver. It was only because people used them, that any value was attached to them. As more people saw the utility, demand increased, which drew the attention of investors, who entered with the purpose of making a buck. Their interest and manipulation lead to boom/bust cycles which plague every "market." Supply and demand are always the factors governing price, but are only coincidentally linked to value where markets are involved.

We are about to witness what happens to products (coins) whose only value is for the first group; namely investors. Where there is no base of utilitarian believers, there is only one destination. DRK, and possibly BTC, and a few of the 2.0 coins are the only ones which have "true" believers, for the simple reason that the others have nothing to believe in but a hope of financial return.

Today we are witnessing the withdrawal of investors. There may be a few TBs who depart in hopes of reentering on more favorable terms, but they will be in the minority. The price may drop by jaw-dropping amounts, but the value for TBs will not change at all. In fact the price/value ration is shifting in directions that allow shallow pocket TBs to actually make some headway that had been impossible due to the manipulations of the investor interests. As one of those shallow pockets, I say "This is wonderful--bring it on!"

While I have not had an opportunity to read next month's newspaper yet, I suspect that current events are making a world in which DRK has a higher fiat price than BTC, more likely. One only need ask what BTC's True Believers really believe in. I think you will find that most would identify with the hope of privacy as the defining value. Most have not yet understood that this is a false promise. As investors move out, and TBs move in, they will be doing their homework investigating their new found coins. Slowly the truth will dawn, and they will be converted. BTC's value will be left to the Wall-street tycoons who will continue their manipulations, with value dependent on the hope of rising price. DRK will rise as investors pursue the TBs, but the nature of DRK will not allow the invasive regulations that Govs. and hence Wall Street require. Hence its ultimate appeal to Corporate/Gov. types will be restricted, but its utility in all other sectors will more than make up for the lack.

Again I ask... Why are you here?

Peace.

Coming from you Toknormal, I consider that high praise--thank you--you are gracious. Grin

I might add that for TBs, price is incidental to value; for pure investors, price is the only value.

It is also sadly true that in developing markets, investors seek to drain all value other than price from the equation, which leads to the development of derivatives. Bitcoin will survive simply due to its Wall-street attachments. Investors will make money whether the price rises or falls due to the ability to sell short. But ultimately the only value, and what is traded is simply price.

Again, thanks!

I'm here because I have a masternode fetish. Seriously though, the fact that X11 was only CPU mineable at the beginning really motivated me to try out mining and then I was hooked. If you look through my post history you can see me begging people to take pokerstars USD transfers for some Darkcoin and I didn't find anyone in time so I started mining. My faith in darkcoin was unbelievable, in my mind it was just a matter of time before it exploded. Then I found out how to create/clone amazon instances and set up hundreds, making so much darkcoin I get nostalgic just thinking about it. At one point I was a big part of the network hashing power. Biggest in the Official Darkcoin pool by far for a few days. Fun times.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Yes...I knew I remember seeing that username on Darkpool back in the beginning and going "HOLY SHIT!!!!"  That guy must have a warehouse full of Xeon servers somewhere rocking up the mining! Man...those were heady days...I was always near the bottom of that list Sad.   LOL now that I make that connection to where I remember seeing ya...I'll keep an eye on your posts.  Cheers Bro!

Oh Dark will be fine. I've followed this coin for a long time, I've written about it and I never ever worry about its future because it's one of the obvious strong ones to survive whatever is coming. If you want to make money...shit, crypto is clearly not for money makers anymore.

I have loved DRK since the beginning and you know how many I own? 10? Why? I can't afford to buy lots of DRK. Do I care? No, it's a beautiful coin.

Just added to my signature there. But by no means is it necessary. I am a (DRK)-believer no matter if I never make a cent off it. It's the only coin that ever promised the true *crypto* meaning behind the cryptocurrency enterprise.

Could I just remind people that this is one of the immense powers of Darkcoin in terms of securing anonymisation of funds.

A principle known as "redundancy" and it's far more powerful than a fancy anon-algo.

The reason is that redundancy compensates many times over for any flaws or weaknesses in the particular anonymsation algorithm in use.

As an analogy, think of painting a room. What do painters do ? Do they put one thick coat on ? No - they always put many thin coats, because if you put one thick coat you get inconsistencies - in some areas it's very thick but there will also be tiny bits that get missed completely. This 'thick coats' approach is positively dangerous in an anonymous cryptocurrency because the tiny missed patches will correspond to individual transactions of individual people and that's unacceptable statistically.

With its pre-emptive, multiple rounds Darkcoin is achieving 2 things to a level far in excess of the alternative "realtime at the point of transaction" anonymisation:

[1] - a greater depth of privacy than any single algorithm could acheive

[2] - a greater level of consistency across all transactions than could otherwise be achieved

So when discussing this concept, I recommend the painting analogy - painters like Darkcoin !
