we just got hit with the biggest botnet in history..  Undecided

Don't think it's a botnet.  Just a huge farm.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know?

A botnet shouldn't be so steady, this looks more like a guy working in a datacenter or something like that with a huge farm, it's really steady.
you need 20000 aws 32 core instances to mine at that speed

Nah, more like 500.  Don't think this is some guy using a cloud.  Not profitable like that, I think he owns what he's running.

well i guess its about time to buy my blade server lol

Probably more!!! Whoever this guy is, he is paying huge money to get his coins (it makes sense, you couldn't buy so many from market without pumping to a huge price, not enough volume)

Or he is just a system admin in some huge chinese university which has thousands of computers he has access to. And now it is weekend and the computer classes are probably closed.

Crazy how fast the hashrate has risen. Say goodbye to double digit difficulty soon. 37 seconds per block, insane... Hope this means good things for the future.

Probably some guy with a ton of servers, and who knows, maybe he had someone optimize minerd for him too beyond what we're all using.

My concern as well, if we get good news about the new features though it could offset the higher difficulty with a bunch of new interest from 'normal' folks.

I'm still bullish.

This is what I'm banking on too.  So are these hog miners.  I hate that these dudes have the power to flood the market with coins if they so choose.

This is stupid, only linux wallet on release.

Good, killed the coin... biggest cpu miners are linux anyway so let them rape and then windows folks will never use it.

All these new alts need to die.
I totally agree with you here. The only alts that should stay are those with proper distribution and that are actually useful or have a purpose that is not already covered by bitcoin.

Forever strong.

If you stop and think, he really can't. If he just started mining about 200 blocks ago, the most coins he could get is between 10 and 15k. Many who have been mining consistently have way more than that. After next diff, it's looking like reward will drop to 25, meaning he won't be able to get as much. If he solo'd all 576 blocks until the next increase and got them all, he'd only have 14,400 more coins. This isn't enough to flood the market.

The much bigger concern to me is the coin being stuck on very high difficulty.

The problem here is not that he will get a lot of coins, because he is only getting 10k-15k (with 3M+ coins out there this isn't much), the problem is the diff readjust algo, I'm really sure he will leave after diff changes, then it will take longer until next diff change. I think Kimoto Gravity Well is the way to go to avoid this, and better now that the coin is still young.

Agreed.  This one guy is not the whole mining operation though.  As long as enough people stick around after he is gone the diff will eventually fall.

What kind of a freak are we dealing with?! These crypto terrorists need to crawl back to wherever they came from...

I believe this coin can be viewed as a big threat by the 'governments', if eduffield really is getting close to creating a completely anonymous coin.

The more people mining this coin, the better. Mine and hold!

Yup. This is what is so exploitable about "normal" diff calculation algos. KGW FTW!
