I'm talking short period, ofc on infinite things converges to same point, but on short term, shouldn't pplns get more reward becouse +10% of miners left (not taking in account pool luck which I understand it is crap and not doing any attempt to calculate myself..)?

Are we having a really bad string of luck the last couple of days?  I was averaging over 3.54 BTC/day before the split, figure I should be making at least 1.7/day now even with the 5% PPS figured in.  I switched over to PPLNS and calculated I should be making roughly .07 BTC per shift x 24 to make 1.7 BTC/day, but I barely see a couple shifts where this has happened.  In the past I have been very unlucky (I was on BTCG for 2 months of the bad luck spell and the second I switch to try other guilds lady luck rewarded BTCG).

I also show me as being the #5 user/share contributor on PPLNS with a hash rate of 12.5GH/s roughly - that can't be right can it?   Everybody else is on PPS?

I have the same thoughts about it i have 2/6 rigs @ pplns the rest is pps. Also @ 11,5gh
I think Also the latest updates and ddos attack has to do with some downtime to my rigs (had to switch between vs / eu servers) and so i hope my 24 h earnings get back on track soon :oo

Somin wrong with pplns right now?

I just looked up the PPLNS shift history- all open shifts reporting 0.  This matches the BTC Guild block history, and that matches blockchain.info's history for this address.  I think everything is working fine - it's just some really awful bad luck.

Now i recall why i dumped deepbit and came back to btcguild with pps. Variance is outrageous with such a high diff that any prop type setup is hardly worth it. Pplns tho, is much better for pool operator tho :-)

Looks like a block has been solved...

Double checked everything on Stratum, and it really was just terrible luck.  We had quite a few shares that were >= diff 2097152 [highest power of 2 that is lower than current target], but none of them were able to meet network difficulty.  Really curious if that was a record though.  ~36 million shares, which is slighlty above network difficulty x10.

While PPLNS, Prop, DGM, etc, will have more variance than PPS...last night was an extremely rare situation.  I can't recall a BTC Guild block taking ~11x network difficulty, at least not in the last 6+ months.

No kidding.  Even with PPLNS running, the majority of the pool is on PPS.  That single block cost me over 200 BTC Sad.

I had to do a brief restart on Chicago to patch a bug that could have potentially crashed the pool on-demand.  Hasn't been used yet as far as I can see, but I found it when working on the option to set a minimum difficulty.

In my case that,s becourse of the unknown factor that it brings with it (PPLNS), and we just had the  24 earnings halving a few weeks ago makes me (maybe others a little bit confused if it,s still worth mining), the PPS gives me some holdon to factor for now..

Didn't you know?  Every pool operator has a little switch they can pull that turns on luck.  But once they pull it, it slowly shifts to bad luck and can't be used again until a really bad string.  The trick is making sure the pool operator isn't asleep when it's time to pull the switch.  Grin

That's what I get for taking the opportunity of bad luck to shut my mining down to do some maintenance.

What's with the run of bad luck that's going 2 nights now around midnight PST and onward - no blocks for 6 hours  Cry

Eleuthria, I saw this on the BTC Block History Page:

"BTC Guild is a Pure Pay-per-Share, so our luck on blocks has no effect on users. However, this page is provided so people can see what blocks we have found for the network."

With PPLNS available you might want to change that or noobies might get confused  Grin
