If Serie A and La Liga have to do something to choose winners and spots for Champions League and Europa league next year, play off tournaments are good. It is not fair to arbitrarily choose winners without such tournaments. It is surely a hard decision but from my opinion, there is no other good choices if all leagues won't manage to continue and finish all matches.

The same will go for other leagues, but for now Italy and Spain are the most affected nations from the pandemic. We will have better picture on Germany and England next two weeks or even four weeks.

I think that all leagues are going to establish a play off round.
This might be a small league with the best 5 -6 teams in the league that would challenge for the top 5-6 ranking and get a position in the european competitions and cups.

That would be injustice with rest of the teams.

It would be better if play off tournament includes all the teams and matches are played according to seeding. For example, since Barcelona and Real Madrid are leading the table, both of these will get direct entry in the semi-finals. Sevilla and Getafe will get direct qualification to quarter finals and so on.

This way, other teams will get a chance to make to the top and save themselves from relegation as well as provide advantage to the teams which have already played better than others.

There's already an ultimatum in La Liga (not official, though, just rumours): either the competition resumes by the end of June or it will get canceled.

Source: https://www.marca.com/en/football/spanish-football/2020/03/30/5e822db022601dea4f8b45da.html

IMO it's extremely unlikely that the league will resume in the summer, so i think this season will be voided...sad times, bros  Sad

Personally i think this pandemic and effects even last over 6 months (God forbid) of which play offs wont' be a good choice too. How about just cancel everything that happened this season including champion's league, Europa etc and start afresh next season with the same teams just like we started the 2019/2020 season. No relegations, no promotions.

Well, it can be.
But on the other hand we are going to lose 2 months (maybe more) of league time.
This time and the matches cannot be played in a 1 month. It will harm the health of the players and it might bring a lot of injuries. So teams might understand and agree with that.

I read about cutting 70% of Barca first football team and the other sport teams too without telling them in advance. Messi and many players complained about not telling them and forcing them somehow to accept it although they don't mind this apparently.
Other teams also will cut players "salaries" too which is justified, however I prefer that a part of it goes to the health care system...

So, La Liga seems to be preparing some strict measures that the clubs will need follow once football activity resumes very soon.

To be honest, i do not believe there is any pressure any where in the world of sports or football.
The sportpage are probably looking for clicks in this dire time.

The world is suffering from this pandemic, and lives are at stake. Everyone needs their mental health to be in the right place.
So for that cause, the league, europe competition, etc should resume when this present war is over.

Lets remember to stay safe and pray for the world.

I think by the end of June hopefully will see a bit of a fall down of this pandemic. The La Liga I hope it can resume because the games will be played without spectators so there is no that big of a risk if all the players are checked 5-23 days before the games start and they all result negative to the virus.

I strongly still doubt that any of the major 5 leagues will get canceled, tbh. The Champions and Europa League continuation could also be factor in the decision making, though.  With all hands on deck and clear sensitivity about the virus in all most European countries, I think we might be very close to the infection spread curve(I'd say weeks), but it might take a little while longer before things settle finally.

We will continue to look forward to what if this pandemic continues to occur within the next few days then it is not impossible the game will be canceled again I hope the local side is able to overcome Covid-19 in the near future so that we can watch again the top European league matches others especially La Liga and EPL.
I think this is quite a long process to stabilize some areas to avoid this plague, if the match remains in the title it will be far sterile and tighter than before.

At this stage all we can do is pray that this virus dies down by April or May end, and if that happens then the La Liga can indeed be saved. However if that’s not possible then the La Liga could follow Premier League’s example, and play all the remaining matches in doors and finish it within 4 weeks. It’s also pertinent to note that the premier league is pushing for 5 subs to be allowed, if the season is forced to be finished in 4 weeks time, and I feel that La Liga officials too will have to allow this otherwise they’ll risk injuring the league’s players.

If they really cancel la liga and doesn't happen, what is worst that could ever happen? I mean it is definitely a bad situation and we would all love to watch the games however there is literally a pandemic going around killing thousands of people every single day, we are talking about thousands DEAD every day.

I wouldn't really mind if they simply cancelled it. These teams spend hundreds of millions of dollars, probably over a billion dollar combined for just one season, they might as well spend it on penalty and other stuff and just go on without finishing this season. If they want to send teams to europe next year just pick the current rankings and send them that way.

Its literally just one season, football has been around for over 1 century now, one season of not being good will not make any team suddenly start sucking and go to 4th division or something, even if you are unlucky and relegate this season, get better and go up. Or maybe cancel all relegations and tell the teams in secunda just wait for another year.

Honestly this pandemic is much more important than football right now, we should not be discussing how to play games, we should be discussing how we can keep them at home.

Yeah indeed this is the worst season I have ever seen because many clubs have suffered huge losses from this incident and can not be predicted that this outbreak is able to stop football for a while so this outbreak is really unpredictable before, for the most position zone below for him there is no decision whether there is degradation or not, but for the champions some rumors that mention the top class will be the champion, but in the decision there is no detailed whether valid or not.

This pandemic is indeed unavoidable because it is difficult to deal with people who continue to die every day and therefore one way is to lockdown to not aggravate the situation.

I still think that closing down one huge place for all players and all people who will work for them and not letting anyone out could still be a solution. Think about a huge town type of situation, from chefs to doctors to thousands of test kits (which is the hardest thing right now, why haven't we manufactured millions of this yet?) and basically every single person that could ever be needed, all closed down in that town, all teams, all players, one stadium, everyone gets out and plays their games, and gets tested constantly, 2 weeks before it all starts to every single day after that, as soon as one player turns out to be negative he is sent to an isolation, everyone gets tested again.

Basically a fully isolated football world. I still prefer if they just cancelled and start next season, but if they really want it, that seems like the best idea so far.

Honestly this pandemic is much more important than football right now, we should not be discussing how to play games, we should be discussing how we can keep them at home.

That's what the CDC and WHO are for, Everyone here also does care about humanity more than sports, but there is not too much we can do, discussing resumption or how play should wouldn't increase or stop the impact the virus has made thus far. A larger percentage of the individuals have always been suffering hunger, homelessness, terrorist acts and wars, but that never stopped prompted global awareness, I'm not saying the covid-19 should be taken any less seriously, but that shouldn't mean we can't have any discussion that doesn't include eradicating the virus at will.

What we can only do from this pandemic is to obey the policies of the government where you live. For example in my country, the policy is at home. For the sake of breaking the chain of the virus, so it does not spread again. With that alone we care about humanity, but discussing sports doesn't hurt.

Really sad. I read about the death earlier on online. Imagine managing the biggest three Rivals in La Liga. He was a legend of his own kind
Meanwhile, the CoronaVirus pandemics looks to be at it's peak in Spain Currently. We do hope no manager or player succumbs to the deadly virus.

Football Espana[1] reported that the 2019/20 La Liga participating clubs could suffer losses of up to 957 million euros if the season was stopped.  Such losses can occur if soccer competitions at all levels are stopped.  The level of losses that occur can change if not all are stopped, which is related to continental level competition.

The overall loss occurred due to loss of income from broadcasting rights, ticket sales, and other aspects of the operational activities of all participating clubs, which could occur in various countries in the future due to the Cov-19 pandemic.
