I never watched much TV or movies or read much fiction.  As a consequence, when I did see or read a sci-fi thriller it tended to stick with me more.  One of the giant tech companies I worked for in Si Valley had a theater on campus, or part ownership or something, and practically force-marched us to watch the latest sci-fi/tech movie several times per month.  Even then I would tend to duck out and go do some real work, or just go home and research stuff I was actually interested in.
