Lol thats a difficult question because the coin doesn't have a stable value you know. Maybe he's not even 1 dollar in about 20 years. But maybe he's that high after 2 years that you can retire with just a couple of coins.
This ain't a difficult question though, you can just suggest some amount of bitcoins that you think that can sustain your whole needs and life for about 20 years in the long run. Even the bitcoin doesn't have stable value still converted to dollar it is still a big amount.

Let us say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use my retirement fund. Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything. How many do you think I would need to buy?
That is incredibly hard to determine. This is because the price may rise substantially or BTC overall, may become worthless. Personally, I would probably stick to 5 - 10 Bitcoin. I believe that this is a good range to buy up to.

I don't think I will be holding bitcoin that long as I will convert my bitcoin to fiat when the price will reach to the moon and then fiat will take care of my retired life.
You can choose to just hold 10% of your entire stash for at least 10 to 20 years as the price might be in the thousands by that time. I will keep at least 25% of my total coins for at least 10 years. I want to see where Bitcoin is heading in the future so I will always keep some coins. it's good choice we save some for long term for future reference and sell some too so we can get buy back more if the price fail

if you want a comfortable living from selling bitcoin in 20 years to come. and because we do not know at what the price that will occur in the future? so just in case you need to buy more bitcoin dude/ The guard only when the price is not in line with your expectations so buy more is better

Invest maybe something around 1-5% of your savings. And beside that you can continue accumulating everytime you have some money left.

if someday goes over 10k then you will need few coin maybe less if goes even over 100K but personally dont think we can see this price in our life time anyway if prices comes to be stable at over 1000 then 100 btc would be just fine would it not

If you look at the price of the coin now you will need allot of coins to retire in 20 years. But you can be lucky if the price of the coin is rising that much maybe it takes less then 20 years.
The fact is that we don't know whether bitcoin will survive for next 20 years or not and if it survives then not sure what would be the value so its better to hold more number of coins.

You will need a lot of Bitcoins and that is because you also can see now that there is a possibility that it can keeps stable for a long time so that would be bad for you. But that is also risky because you also don't even know what is going to happen in that 20 years. My current investment advice would be Invest 30% in a savings account 50% is some safe investments like real estate or bonds And with the remainder practice trading and try to get the most out of your money (if you have time offcourse )

No knows what amount of coins will take care of him after 20 years as it totally depends on the price of bitcoin at that particular time, even 10 btc would be enough or even 100 btc cannot take care of.

That is incredibly hard to determine. This is because the price may rise substantially or BTC overall, may become worthless. Personally, I would probably stick to 5 - 10 Bitcoin. I believe that this is a good range to buy up to. It really depends more on the financial status of each holder individually. If anyone is thinking of betting on bitcoin to be the thing that will provide them with better life in the future, and if we aim at 100x factor within 20 years, that means that putting aside only 5% of their income into bitcoin would yield enough for them to life in comfort. But considering the fact that it's best to keep things safe, its better not to overbuy. Personally, i'm aiming at 21 bitcoin.

You need a lot of bitcoins to retire in 20 years, I think you will need around the 250 bitcoin to really have a nice retirement if you ask me. With a lower amount it will just not work.

It also depends on in which country you are living, as in third world countries the cost of living is not too high, so I think even 100 btc would be enough to live luxury life.

I think at after 20 years bitcoin will have a very big value and so for keeping bitcoin for that time you have to keep about 100 bitcoins or a little more than that. But i suggest the better thing will be that you start a business with your money so you will be benefited well.

Yes, that's true since the market in the real world today is also unstable, when there is a war the economy is falling down, just like bitcoins it is very unstable. Much better if you are going to save a lot of bitcoins for that 20 years.

This is a tough one as you can't take today's $ purchasing power as a proxy as that's going to fall. $20k 10 years from now is worth a lot less. That said, my guess is that 100BTC should be safe, maybe even 50.

Many people in this thread, including me, predict that in 20 years Bitcoin will cost from $10k to $20k. Of course those numbers make sense only if the buying capacity of USD will be the same as it is today.
In short to retire in 20 years you'll need from 100 to 200 BTC.
