According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Hey qi Smiley

Every address that had a balance in May on the BTC/LTC/DOGE networks, had it's counterpart on the CLAM network attributed ~4.6 CLAM.

So, yes, there needed to be a balance in May.

It is easy to check: just download the client, sync past block 10k, and click File->Import Wallet.

EDIT:
As mentioned earlier, it is wise to empty the address before claiming Smiley

Be sure they are retired wallets or at least worth the risk.

Happy to see Cyprus showing up!

More clamcoin faucets coming too!  List is already pretty good.  Getting coins into the hands of totally new folks is important.

If anyone has personal experience with staking CLAM and how it is similar to Proof-Of-Work (compared to other Proof-Of-Stake alternatives), your opinions and experiences would likely be helpful:

Hi, solo staker here. Used to keep my coins on Just-Dice but once the leverage system came into effect i moved most into my local wallet. I've got 519 coins staking across 85 addresses in the wallet (pre splitsize/combinesize) and is setup in 5 clam chunks. I've got splitsize and combinesize setup for 2 clam output chunks at the moment. Experience is sporadic at best. I've had 4 clam stakes in 24 hours and then gone to the other extreme of having 3-4 days with 0 stakes at all. This month i've staked 32 coins (3/3/15-27/3/15)

As JD's staking weight grows i've noticed an uptrend of drier days but since their is no growing staking weight then it just ends up a huge game of luck. Also on the subject of orphaned stakes, i'm getting maybe 1 every 1-2 weeks.

If you need anymore info, let me know.

I was wondering if you knew anything about this deposit to Just-Dice, Mr. Solo Staker. Wink

Which makes me wonder... what happens if people put illegal or copyrighted text into the blockchain's CLAMspeech? It's not like anyone can take it down to comply with a cease and desist order. I remember a few years ago someone put a bunch of links to very dubious sites in the Bitcoin blockchain, but I've not heard anything about that since. Here's an article, with a pretty inaccurate headline: "If you own Bitcoin, you also own links to child porn". (Inaccurate since you can own Bitcoin simply by holding a private key on a piece of paper. You don't need a copy of the blockchain to own Bitcoin).

I'd figured i'd give JD a month trial with the leverage, see how it stacks up. If in the end it makes more than solo staking then i will keep my coins in JD. It was a good experiment for a month though. As for copyrighted text, i doubt many people from Hasbro will care all that much but i've been wrong before. Given the level of copyrighted films, music etc i would imagine that would be a copyrighter's first priority over anything else.

Ha!

Here's what happened...

I was talking to Poloniex this morning about how they were still spending far too much on CLAM transaction fees. It turned out that the root cause was that they were using a very old version of the CLAM client, from before I fixed settxfee.

I was wanting to check whether they were using a more reasonable fee now, but I have no good way of finding their transactions. The best way I've found is to look for large deposits to Just-Dice, because they almost always come from Poloniex. It just so happened that the first large deposit I looked at had some My Little Pony CLAMspeech...

(Inaccurate since you can own Bitcoin simply by holding a private key on a piece of paper. You don't need a copy of the blockchain to own Bitcoin).

Obviously, CLAM is an open source project - we are not a legal team - and this shouldn't be construed as legal advice.

This is a legitimate concern and has been talked about extensively on the BTC Dev Mailing list and elsewhere.
As far as I am aware, there is no agreed upon solution - though I have read a couple proposals to limit culpability (such as storing the block data in encrypted form).

I think there are also additional concerns fundamental to a distributed system such as Bitcoin or CLAM.
For instance, theoretically one could be argued to assist in money laundering or financing of criminal activity simply by being involved in relaying, storing, and honoring a consensus which includes an offending transaction.

I take moral and idealistic issue with that interpretation, but I think it is a valid concern and attack.
Further, some of the legal precedent surrounding ISP's seems to suggest at least some protection in cases where the content is not in the control or feasibly removed by the intermediary.

As abhorrent and unacceptable as the content may be, I personally wonder about the implications of censoring content in a network such as Bitcoin or CLAM.  Who decides what is "legal"/"acceptable" and "illegal"/"unacceptable", and by the standards of what jurisdiction?

I think there are a wealth of unanswered questions; even in cases of tort, ISP's, and vanilla copyright infringement - which have even been legislated in some jurisdictions, such as the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act.  Some protections have been extended by these acts/laws, and yet there seems to be disagreement in my reading as to the exact interpretation of even this protection/liability.

Probably not helpful.
Likely more questions than answers.
It seems even concerning laws which were intended to clarify rights/responsibilities there is disagreement to the exact repercussions.

I think everyone would be interested to hear any thoughts or research anyone else (possibly more informed) has come across?

Edit:
Additional, possibly interesting reading material, concerning liability of ISP's in the U.S. - Section_230_of_the_Communications_Decency_Act

you have to "import" your btc wallet to the clam client for you to claim your clams

From the clam client goto "file" then "import wallet"...

Just do yourself a favor and move any btc, ltc, doge from the wallet you are going to import. Also before doing any import make a backup and import the backup wallet.. you can call it 1btcwallet.dat and import it....

and if I can do it,,, anyone can Tongue...

Hoping this fall to make a nice donation in the name of Clam users to the hospital!!

Keep up the great work!!!

If Dooglas or SuperClam would like to loan the wallet enough CLAM to make staking worth while it would be appreciated!!!

I auctioned Just-Dice userid 666 "for charity". The highest bid was 80 CLAM, but then KLYE bid 6.66 CLAM and the highest bidder dropped out to "let KLYE have it".

I had KLYE send the 6.66 to the Crypto for Kids address.

I'm sad to see that he's now auctioning the same account again, when your charity could have had the whole 80 CLAM. Maybe he'll send you at least part of his proceeds.

You need to sync at least some of the blockchain before your CLAM will show up.

Your example 14zZ22 address was funded in block 5949, for example. You won't see its 4.6 CLAM in your wallet until you have synced up to block 5949. All initial distribution coins were funded by block 9262, so once you've synced that many you will see all your CLAM in your wallet.

To speed up syncing, check out my bootstrap.dat post.

Just a quick note to whoever donated 6.66 Clam to Crypto for Kids!  THANKS!!!

Nice!!!  Thanks!!!

Discussion and ideas; I am not aware of a full-fledged project underway for Poker.
