Ah nice - help people 'feel' better about their delusions Smiley

The whole premise of any kind of gambling seems to be "we'll pay you .98 times what we should, according to the true odds of you winning".  That's clearly a bad deal for the gambler, but once we've somehow decided that it's OK to offer a bad deal to people who are (willing|mathematically challenged enough) to take it, I don't see how offering two different ways of taking the same deal is any worse than offering just the one.

Sigh, having to explain a post ...

It really does make no difference because the numbers are truely random and are used only once for each game- you can't bet against another player, only against the house, so it wouldn't catch on.

Your argument is similar to saying that we don't need the 'red' bet on a roulette table, since there's no difference between 'red' and 'black'.

Mathematically that's true, but players like to feel like they have some control.  If you feel the lucky number is going to be high next time you play, wouldn't you like to be able to play "over 32767" instead of "lessthan 32768"?

In case you had some idea that those highlighted quotes were anything else ... no they are delusions.

I have bets over 2 hours old that have 10+ confirmations and the responses are coming in, but only 1 every 10-20 mins.

wtf is going on? I have fee set to .0005 so it shouldn't be related to that.

There is one address that is betting A TON every few seconds, probably botting and almost all the bets are 1+ btc.
It's almost like you're getting DDOS'd with bets.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I mess around on dice quite a bit but it's really getting so slow I don't think I'm going to be able to play anymore.

A couple weeks ago I could put in a bet, get a response in 5-10 seconds and go again. Lately it's been taking at least 5 mins for responses.
Even a 2-3 minute round trip really takes all the fun out of it and I don't think people will keep playing as much if it stays this way.

The bots kill this game for hoomans. Used to get responses in 1 second and you could actually see the history instead of just a flashing screen.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could at least see the transaction on DICE in the history. I get them instantly when they send them, it's that they are not being processed for 45+ minutes.

It's not even fun anymore, just stressful Sad

Same here. I just went back to my SDICE wallet after about a week to send in a bet or two and it hasn't taken my first bet yet. It's been 10 minutes on a wait that's supposed to be a few seconds. Major bummer.

Hey guys, sorry for the play delays today. Server is running slowly. I don't think it's bot bets that are doing it, because the bet qty is not abnormal, and most days are higher than today actually.

We're tinkering around with some things and hope to have it improved shortly.

Yeah my bets aren't even coming back in any type of recognizable order which is ironic because the first 4 were larger bets (for me anyway) and the ones I'm getting once every 10-20 minutes were placed way afterwards.

Thanks for looking into it, I wish there was a secondary set of bet wallets to split the load.

Is the server that processes the bets the same as the site is displayed from?

This is weird, I'm getting them back one at a time at exactly 10 minute intervals. An I caught in some type of filter? My bets of 5, 2, 2, 2 are still no-shows, blockchain shows they went through as normal to the Duce address and alot of confirmation but they have never processed and it's been 5 hours now =\ they are getting skipped over by newer bets.

I've gotten one of the two bets I made back, but it's been 30 minutes since I got it. Not sure what happened to the other one.

Yep, we fixed a big problem last night. There had been a flurry of tiny transactions (perhaps meant as a DDoS of some kind) which was causing hangs for the database. Problem has been solved, and bets are running very quick right now. A bunch of stuck transactions also go cleared out from the past few days. Enjoy!

Would be interesting to trace the source ... as anyone with the time and the inclination could do Smiley

evoorhees,

Can you confirm that bets over a certain amount now do not process until 1 confirmation?

I seem to be able to get 1.00 btc to respond immediately on occasion, but anything north of that appears to get held until 1 confirmation.

Is that normal across the board or is there some type of filtering that causes this? I'm just wondering if there is something slowing me down so that I can play without waiting 10-15 mins between bets since I am usually betting over 1btc.

From what I know your bet will receive an instant response provided:
- all the inputs to your bet are confirmed
- you add a suitable fee to your transaction

From what I know your bet will receive an instant response provided:
- all the inputs to your bet are confirmed
- you add a suitable fee to your transaction

The "advanced" part of the SD website says:

Quote
The best way for you to ensure your Bitcoin bet is returned to you quickly, is for you to include the standard fee of .0005btc in your payment transaction. This helps it get noticed by the network faster, and SatoshiDICE picks it up, calculates it, and returns it to you faster

0.0005 BTC is more than the required fee for lots of transactions, and way less than the required fee for others.  I don't know whether the website is accurate or not, but if they instantly process all bets with a fee of 0.0005 or more then they're asking for trouble.  I can construct a bet that requires a much bigger fee than that, and so will take a long time to confirm.

It would be good to hear the official position on how they decide which bets to process immediately, and to have it explicitly stated on the website.

2 BTC and up -always- requires confirmation [this is after hundreds of games], regardless of the fee attached.  I know my 1 BTC bets used to get instant response when they had a fee attached, but I never made any between 1 and 2 to determine where the exact cutoff was.

It would be nice to have the old instantaneous SatoshiDice back, but I can certainly understand the need to wait for confirmations on large bets.  It's just too easy to attempt a double spend when you lose, and on large bets, there is significant incentive to do so.
