I gave a remote accessed S4 a red hot go on a customised proxied p2pool and the best I could get on it was averaging 1.7TH.

That's about all I could get out my S4 at slush's pool too.

The people that had their s4's shipped to Bitmain's hosting facilities should speak up about their experiences.. either fixes are being provided before the home miners' machines are being looked at, or this facility is already burned down to the ground.

S4 PSU issues ?

Can Bitmain please advise the community as to what is up with the Power Supplies ? I just lost my first S4 and it was just installed less then 7 days ago .

This is a real letdown because for every day I have to deal with a RMA or tech support I totally lose out on ROI ..

After looking at my PSU I suspect they burnt that facility to the ground… LOL …… I know its not funny, but after looking at my less then 7 day old PSU and the black marks I'm glad I didn't burn my rack to the ground .

that is an ugly job.

IMO, buy a new PSU (or pair of PSUs), and power it from those for the meantime. Underclocking slightly should make it operable with an EVGA 1300

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

Its late now in CN so I'll see what they say tomorrow. They're not made in house though, its a large OEM who have made mistakes - Bitmain are as upset as you are.

So are you finally going to admit that there are hardware issues?

I don't know how people can think Bitmain mined using these machines when they have so many problems.

I just don't understand why they went with a PSU that could not be changed out with aAX1500 or something like that . I understand that the S4 is a TAD bit smaller then the S2 but it wasn't worth it ! I don't understand who made these decisions.. they had the bugs in the S2 worked out ! There was no reason to re invent the wheel here… I have a feeling they will drop support for the S4 like they did the S2 and say there were "production issues" so stick with our S3…. Its not that hard to make this rack mount option work ! The S2 was WORKING ! they worked out the shipping issues ! … all they had to do was STICK with their darn upgrade path .

Batch 2 S4 has new PSU.  and all the future batches.

batch 1 with PSU problems are being replaced as we speak. (When RMA is needed)

If you have a DOA or defective PSU, PLEASE DO NOT OPEN the PSU case.  It can be life threatening hazard inside the PSU. HIGH VOLTAGE.

and we are still wake!!  Its late in China but staffs are still working around the clock as usual.

As information becomes available, we will provide more

Cgminer & Firmware part wise, tremendous supports from Ckolivas and Kano are placed into this, but please wait for the programmers to finish their work.

It's not suppose to work.  S3 and S3+ firmware are compatible to each other but not S2 and S4.

If you brick it, the replacement S2 firmware is available for download at http://www.bitmaintech.com site under Support.

I was bit antsy about not getting on the S4 Batch 1 but am glad I didn't ordered.  Grin Although I'll be far behind on others in the mining, I rather see the proof of working miner before purchasing. I've learned my lesson with other miners and I'm happy with S1 and S3 which are work horses mining/heating my home.

I'm going to keep an eye out for satisfied miners prior to ordering my S4s.

Works great… My two remaining S4 units now show the correct hash rate .

Yes, and it seems to work, slush pool now says 1900+GHs after about an hour running with diff set to 2048.

Thank goodness!  Just switched my S4 back to slush's pool after hearing this.  The payouts from my S4 at BTC Guild and GHash.io were only half what I'd expected -- it earned the same as my two S3's (1 TH) were earning on slush's pool... Guess I'm just spoiled :-) Will let you know how it goes.

thanks!

-dave

ps: guess i got the only working PSU they shipped in batch one... so far so good.  Well, house not burning down anyway (crosses fingers, hopes he didnt just jinx it!)  Should I open it up and inspect it to look for signs of trouble?  Where would i look?  What would i look for? ...besides, y'know -- smoke and fire and melted stuff and such.

out of my three units, only one has went south so far and they are seven days in… From what I understand Bitmain will only replace PSU's that pop… Be very careful with these things they could very well burn down a home ..

I posted pictures of my PSU and you can clearly see it had a significant arc of electricity .
