Whats the rationale for dumping on release?

Okay, I think peeps have misunderstood my question.

Is there a rationale for dumping *on release*?
To be clear, all dumping so far has been pre-release.

You're right, because what I spoke about regarding Factom wasn't "release" of software. But in the past there was "dump-on-good-news", which is the same by it's principle.

If you have accumulated a lot of a currency/token of a project and if you would dump it all, there would barely be enough buy-support to catch it --> you have to wait on volume and that comes with good news. Plus: The price goes up.

If you want to see what I mean look at the last price rise of XRP (Ripple). They had good news:

Big Banks Invest $55 Million in Blockchain Startup Ripple's Series B
http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-blockchain-55-million-series-b/

Volume and price exploded - and it was dumped back with a lot of volume.

As an example it sticks, but different than a normal use case for some believed XRP was still tied to Ripple, it is not. Factoids are linked to the success of (the use of) Factom. Good news will therefore increase both volume and price.

Yes, I didn't want to compare the projects. It's just about the fact that dump-on-release/good-news exist and that (at least for some big holders) it can make sense.

But yes, absolutely agree that it will be different with Factom because the value of Factoids is highly connected to the use of Factom. That's kind of missing in Ripple how it seems.

With almost 4,000,000 entries used and an entry costs +/$0.001, this means about $4,000 worth of Factoids are now gone, right?

Initial supply was 8,759,968 FCT, current supply is 8,749,355, about 10,000 FCT
so over $30k USD at today's prices

my factomd synchronisation stopped at block height 39999 and doesnt sync further even after several restarts.

I tried so many different options to get the wallet running , even installed ubuntu on virtual box etc. but i can't find any solution yet.

It is really annoying imo.

Has anyone any idea how to get factom wallet running on windows or ubuntu ? Sad

It would help if you could post the error messages, perhaps on https://0bin.net/ instead of the entire error log here.

Others have had luck with an experimental windows version.  There are both the 32 and 64 bit versions.  See if those fix your windows issue.  https://github.com/FactomProject/factomd/issues/23

The linux virtualbox not working is concerning.  We might need to look closer into that.

it looks like the wallet is under maintenance on polo

Most likely related to the M2 release. I spoke with Daniel Castagnoli Exodus Co-Founder & CCO via email about 2 weeks ago regarding release of Factom's wallet. He said  "I can say this; we are in early integration testing with the Factom team now. There is a vital component (called receipts in the upcoming Factom Milestone 2 release) we require before Exodus support is complete."  So who knows that was 2 or so weeks ago.  So there is definite movement on both sides going on right now.

No github updates to factomd in over a day ... I'm going to go ahead and place my bet for M2's public testnet release: tomorrow/Monday.

100% speculation.

Merge Branch Friday into Monday on github...
We've also had a
Merge branch 'm2-thursday' into m2-friday
Merge branch 'm2-monday' into m2-wednesday

Dont see a Tuesday... maybe I missed it.

But if Monday is already merged...that means no more mondays...which means...free cookies?

How does it work?
Very simplistically speaking, the developers were working on code late Thursday and Friday that all went into M2-Friday.  Then over the weekend they began working on new code and that went into M2-Monday.  They merged that code with the code from M2-Friday.  They'll continue to work on the code tonight and tomorrow which will go into M2-Monday.  At some point, that will get merged into M2-Tuesday.  And at some point later in the week, into M2-Friday.  Rinse and repeat.

In short, there have been many M2-Fridays and there MAY be more.

Looking at Paul Snow's last update today, these appear to be the latest M2 testnet node visualizations at work. Very cool!

Audit Servers, Leaders, and Followers nodes

https://github.com/FactomProject/factomd/commit/e2c31ca65db5dae364fdf42b4e7cd5fd5c9cf364

btw: Less than 14,000 entries left to 4M!!! This was one of the September goals if I recall.

Yes. And it's not just nice, it seems to be very userfriendly and since it's connected with shapeshift it's nearly an "Inside-Wallet-Exchange". Of course it's not even near to Polo and guys like us will continue to use real exchanges (cheaper) but what I believe for Crypto in general is: It needs more userfriendly stuff. If I think about friends who sometimes ask me what I do: They would be interested but the complexity of crypto is a barrier in itself.

Saying that, this is also promising (first-semi-decentralized exchange): https://www.lykke.com
