1341  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Collecting Data on B8 S7 Failure Rates on: January 18, 2016, 01:15:22 PM
S7 received, preliminary 20 mins run gives 4.74TH/s fan 50%, watt 1440 on two 1050 EVGA GS/G2. I estimated 1475w based on Bitmain's numbers. So a EVGA g2 1300 would run this fine albeit at 1450Watts~

Almost through the first 2 weeks. The miner mine 4.72 TH/s when supercooled (Fans@3k, Temp at 50c). The HWE% is still at 0. 130 errors in 5 days. So far so good, i hope the unit last a long time.

With the 0 HWE% i guess i would be able to get a good OC potential out of it. But on 120v15A breakers, i'd be pushing the circuit over 80% load, so, maybe in the future if i get access to 240v or 20a breakers.

1050 exahash wow, do they have a pen that holds enough ink to write that many numbers Smiley
Omg, our equipment is becoming useless.

Well, its a 1.05 Exa spike. Not 1050. We're at 1050 Peta hash. The true hashrate of the total network might be closer to 930 Peta hash, so reaching 1 Exahash is one or two difficulty jump away.

it seems that my gain is 0.011 BTC day
with 14 th / s? Roll Eyes

Then don't mine somewhere else ... jeez ... are you trolling or trying to get posts deleted or what?

http://198.136.28.106/marv.png

Well, its marvykkio, what do you expect.

I have 12.8TH/s and my gain is over 0.06BTC per day since we've done so well lately.
1344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What happened to the Antminers with the 5.05 hash rate? on: January 18, 2016, 10:50:57 AM
Hi,
Does anyone know why Bitmain made only one batch of Antminer S7's with the 5.05 TH rate? Was this batch 5? I'd love to hear some experiences and reviews of these machines. Also if anyone has some leads on new to lightly used units of this batch I would be interested.  Thank you!

Posted From bitcointalk.org Android App

It was Batch 7;

They were "experimenting" later on in the batches they now build S7's with less chips that are overvolted and overclocked to save money. At the cost of less efficiency.
1345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitcoin mining/hardware on: January 18, 2016, 10:05:20 AM
Options would be s7 or s5+. I need so many s5/4 if I want same hashrate as they and need many psu's etc. Well s5+ also but its easier if they are after all same machine.

S5+ costs ~2300$ new and hashrate 7.800 (@bitmain/"up coming)
S7 costs ~1800$ new and hashrate 4.800 (@bitmain)
For me s5+ looks better.. more hashrate and only little difference?
Noise is not a problem.

Where are you seeing S5+ for 2300$? They were sold once in very very limited quantity and then never again. It was just a design prototype for using up chips and a proof of concept for the S7 cooling designs.

Your options for buying in bulks are S4, S5, S7 and Avalon 6. If you find a private user that bought a tons of S5+ then and is now liquidating, i guess you could find a decent amount of S5+ but thats it. But S5+ for 2300$ new is a horrible price either way.

And a S7 costs under 1000$ new, closer to 900$ per. I am not sure why you are saying 1800$ per S7. You're looking at a 100% markup from the real price here. Double check your prices before getting ripped off royally.

TLDR at the price you "found", in truth the S7 brand new in bulk is way, way cheaper. But in actually accessible GH/$, its going to be S5's in bulk or S4. For example there is a guy selling like 39 S4 on the marketplace.
1346  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Slower Mining with USB 2.0? on: January 18, 2016, 09:57:14 AM
I also think, that USB 3.0 is faster, I do not see any other reason  Wink

It is not faster for mining, there is not all that much data being sent forth and back to the miner. Having a higher data bandwidth does not make the ASIC mine any faster.

It is true the speed of miner will not make a difference usb 2 is fast enough without issue.  Only difference on paper is usb 3 has more power aviable so could allow more power for a stick.

But with all the mod's people show on board that is not always true.  We have seen many usb 2 hubs people mod to add more power.

Personally i use a USB y splitter to get enough power. My USB 2.0 hub provide nearly as much power per port before sagging as my USB 3.0 port. (This experience for others will probably wildly vary depending on what hub they get) So if you really want more power to max overclock, you're most likely going to have to use two USB port if you want to push say a SideHack stick to the max, either way.

Otherwise if you run any normal stick, or a Sidehack stick at "regular" speed, i don't think any stick is going to max a single USB 2.0 port, even a regular end onboard one.
1347  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitcoin mining/hardware on: January 17, 2016, 03:04:39 PM
Hi,

Newbie in forum but Ive been checking bitcoin from 2012 ->
2013 I was mining Alt-coins with several gpu's, gained a little profit back then. After asic's came more regular thing I quitted.

Now I would like to get into bitcoin mining again.

I have "free" electricity.

Ive been thinking to get used asic's. Not sure if I should buy new ones? How long this things can run, are they good after use...idk.

Here is my options:

Antminer s7 - This is the newest and most power effective machine, but also expensive.

Antminer s5/4 - This I would need few to get same hashrate as s7.

Antminer s5+ - Needs a lot power but free electricity so not a big deal. (Can I even find new ones?)

What would be a best option to choose?
Also, there is coming? new 16nm chips, should I wait for them or buy now what I can effort and then sell it and buy newest with a extra money?

Im located to europe if that means something Smiley

Experts, im looking for your opinions.

S5 is a good middle ground, easier to manage fan speed/noise, if you managed to buy some BTC when it dropped, you might want to look into getting some S7 however. Its really about the acquisition cost. The big problem with the S7 is that it easily take 1400watts at the wall, so it would be better to use it on 240v. The whole setup would be very noisy however.

On 120v the S5 are much easier to handle, specially if you get ATX psu.

Ultimately it depend on what kind of setup you have/want, your Amp limit, how much noise you can make and which software you can find at good price.

No for S5+ and people selling them are selling them at way too high costs. Something like more than one brand new S7 per "block" (1/3rd of S5+).

1350  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Does anyone sell step downs / 9v PSUs for antminer s5s? on: January 17, 2016, 01:35:21 AM
I'm thinking about picking a few up, and I remember that they can only get really good efficiency when hooked up to a lower voltage power source.
Does anyone sell conversion kits (that accept 12v and put out 9v with minimal efficiency loss) or special PSUs for these miners?

Thanks everyone, and have a fun-tastic weekend.

Here is the relevant thread;
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1151460.300

RichBC ended up using two (something like)4.5to7v  adjustable PSU in parallel to PSU to get the desired voltage range, that is probably the cheapest more efficient way. I guess buck converter works too and could be cheaper and it is also discussed there, but those don't usually have a turn pot to adjust the voltage exactly to what you want.
1351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I've never set a paraphrase, but bitcoin core is still asking for it on: January 16, 2016, 08:47:23 AM
I've installed bitcoin core a few months ago, and I'm 100% sure that I've never set any passphrase. Today I've got my first bitcoins, but when I've tried to send them it asked for a passphrase.

Is there some default passphrase that gets set when I install bitcoin core, or maybe I've been hacked? Anyone else had this problem?

You should know it.   I'm hoping you did not set a passphrase and forget it. This is from Armory wallet but it I think is true with core aswesll:

Your passphrase is the encryption key for your wallet, and thus you are in the same shoes as a potential attacker if you forget it — it will be nearly impossible to recover the wallet unless you can remember substantial portions of the passphrase. The more you can remember, the more likely you will be able to recover it. However, in nearly all cases, you will need to hire someone with knowledge of encryption and who has access to a lot of computing power. For reference, if you use a completely random 6-character passphrase for your wallet, and you cannot remember anything about it, it will take your computer up to 900 years to recover your wallet. However, if you remember most pieces of your password, an expert may be able to help you recover your wallet in a few days. - https://support.bitcoinarmory.com/kb/article/30-forgot-wallet-encryption-passphrase-password

Problem is not in forgeting passphrase, problem is that I've never even set a passphrase to begin with but it's still asking me for one. I wasn't even able to put passphrase. When I installed bitcoin core and tried to set the paraphrase it asked me for the "old passphrase" in order to set the new one, but what do I enter in the "old passphrase" when I've never even set a passphrase before?

There is not one by default, so the only possible explanation according to what you're saying is that when you installed Bitcoincore, it was installed atop an already existing wallet, so that when you loaded Bitcoincore, the wallet it had was already encrypted.

That's probabbly it, I've had bitcoin core on my computer before so I've probabbly installed new instance on top of that wallet.

Ergo, you set a passphrase and you forgot about it. I hope you can remember your passcode.

1353  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 issues: Loses one board after a week. Need to restart multiple times on: January 16, 2016, 08:15:32 AM
But it can take multiple restarts (kicks in the pants) for it to mine a full rate.  I can't figure out why the one board just bugs out totally.

A lots of boards stop working altogether. You can also set mining software such as MMMonitor to restart the miner if it triggers a low hashrate warning. So it would do so repeatedly. But you will need to setup the minimum time to reboot if you dont want it to reboot it IF it just told it to reboot (since the hashrate is low when you start it).

-snip nonsense-
Don't ruin the thread with this nonsense again, move it to the other (XT/BU/Classic/whatever threads).

This is pretty much what I have to say about the current bitcoin situation:
I was actually surprised how good the video was, my expectations were quite low. Good job; you should make more of these. It does (almost) accurately explain the situation though (at least from a users perspective).

Oh Lauda.

You are the sheep I was mentioning on the other thread.
keep holding on to your perspective of the situation and you can hold till $0.

You think Bitcoin is going to $0? Even all your shitcoin scams are not at $0.

There is too much visible support, this is nonsense, Bitcoin is not even crashing. Having a coordinated attack on Bitcoin like this one is just going to dent the price for 1-2 days. Now is a good time to buy.
1355  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] High End ATX PSUs on: January 16, 2016, 01:19:14 AM
Bump

Glad to see you've put some price up. I've made good progress now clearing out older gen miners, and the two server 1100w PSU's are planned to getting offlined early next week, so shipping them strait out is an option now.

Instead of the 1300w G2 and the 750w Seasonic, how about you send me the EVGA 1600W Titanium Power Supply for the 2 PSU + 100 USD? Assuming you are still interested in them even though you bought a bunch from Quakefiend, that is.

That would probably work for me but 100 USD is a little low. Yeah, I'd still be interested. What happened to them though tough, in regards to your melted PCI-e cables?

Edit: NM, just read your post in the other thread.

I guess i could cover your shipping, too, probably doable when the BTC price finish recovering from this farce. Let me know if you have some more questions.
1356  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 issues: Loses one board after a week. Need to restart multiple times on: January 16, 2016, 01:14:25 AM
I had a little free time over the winter break here, so I did some swapping.  I wanted to isolate which of the two boards is bad.  I think I identified which one is bad, but now I do not get a temperature reading of the good board.  I downloaded the newest firmware from Bitmain, and I can control the fan speed manually, but I would still like to know what the temperature of the board is.  Is there any way to fix or restore the temperature reading?

Not software wise if the problem stay with the controller. The easiest would be to have a monitoring software auto reset your S5 every X days and then if you have temp on one board, you dont really need it on the second board then.
1357  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Connect Antminer S5 directly to a SSH-server? on: January 16, 2016, 12:17:11 AM
Thanks for swift replies.
Although it seems to be a SSH server installed on the miner not a client.

https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204200569-How-do-I-connect-login-via-SSH-

Or is there also a client?

You can easily ssh into the miner, so does it matter? I'm not really sure what you're trying to setup honestly. Should you not just router their individual IPs with your router?
1358  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [ALL SOLD] 1100w Platinum (94%) server PSUs/breakout boards w/cables on: January 15, 2016, 10:54:24 PM
quakefiend420 i've done silly things and burnt the cables breakout board side, so i need to cut them (the burnt/oxidized cable part) and recrimp because the burnt/oxidized part is heating up to 54c now~ so not critical but need to be changed asap.

Do you know exactly what gauge of o ring i would need to buy online to recrimp them? Thanks.

I actually have some of the same terminals that I could send you, how many do you need?

Its two per cable and i got most of the one you sent me damaged (total of 12), so quite a bit. I was hoping to buy some cheap bulk online.

 Shocked

What did you do to them??? How were they damaged?

I've used jury rigged cables for a while because i'm lazy. I redid a crimp only using plyers and a hammer and a flathead screwdriver, before i got the tool to do proper crimp. And since they were working well, i just forgot about it.

But eventually it loosened and slowly got hotter and i only noticed when the yellow wires started darkening. So now i'm getting a set of o ring terminal to do the job right once and for all, at the lost of a couple of inch of wiring.

Really? Damn. They must've been pretty loose for that to happen? Like "i can pull these wires out if I pull on them" type of loose? I assume there was no damage to the breakout board's lugs?

Not that loose. Which is why its weird because i gave a good pull to every cable. But this was one with the hard yellow isolation, i think the plastic must of been holding them tight, but it loosened with the heat or something?

And no, a bit of black residue around on the + pole. Not sure whats best to clean it. I'm running them again now with different cables. If you or whoever i sell them to doesnt want to cables i guess i could just turn them into 6 to 6 pins cables instead.

I am doing research. That is what this is.

Show me a thread where someone says Supoort is good, tells you how long it took their units to arrive. Explains customs and shipping cost.

Don't be a dick. It's a rule on this forum.

A lot of people come in here, completely clueless and ask help for a startup and its typically a waste of time. Eventually it is found out that the user in question is way over his head and it gets more pointless and pointless each time, because the same questions are asked and the same answers are given over and over. And it always end with the user in question not having realized that its not feasible in the first place. Which means there are about 100 startup thread with all the information you want.

Imo Bitmain is a pain to deal with, if you are in the US, i recommend the Avalon 6 instead. If you want to deal with RMA with a Chinese company, then sure. But you won't be covered for anything that breaks after about 85 days after you received the miners.

However the S7 is cheap and not as bad as people try to make it look like.
