Texas has a lot of laws on guns, but the population is smart enough not to press the issue to the hilt.
Almost nobody in Houston is going around openly carrying a gun, but they could if a need arises.

"Beginning September 1, 2021, HB1927 made it legal in Texas for most people 21 or over to carry a handgun in a holster without a permit both openly and/or concealed."
However, there are many exceptions of places and events.
Exactly how this law interacts with the prior law that prohibited open carry on College campuses, I am not sure.
Typically, there are a lot of gun-related texts posted on the walls (on campuses), not sure if everything is even current.

Now, as far as bitcoin is concerned, nothing special is happening, so far.
1743  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2021, 08:14:23 PM
Why? Because it is completely arbitrary and does not accomplish what is intended.
Assume several scenarios:
1. A visitor from out of state was traveling, went to piss past a purple post. He/she has no idea, thinks that it is some kind of a decoration-bam, wham. Not exactly the same, but in Florida a nice Japanese student visitor was killed through the door when he was simply participating in Halloween celebration.
2. A local drunkard drove his truck past the "signs", went out to do #1 as well...bam..wham!

In both cases, those who do the shootin' would be dragged through the courts, charged with manslaughter, and even IF they prevail, it is DEFINITELY not worth it if lives were not REALLY in danger.
Protect the property? Well, bears and rabbits shit on your property daily with no recourse..well maybe they got shot too from time to time, which is fine.

Additionally, assume scenario #2 happened. If the guy/gal who was shot in this scenario was also local, you would NEVER be safe.
His or her relatives...they got 'them telescope rifles as well, don't ya think?

Again, shooting mere trespassers is not legal in any case. Urban legends, old wives tales and the fact that you would probably get away with it if you weren't completely stupid notwithstanding. It's merely supposed to be a no trespassing sign. Though I do agree that it's really not very good from the point of view of someone who has never heard of this totally non-obvious custom.

By the way, I do recall reading that there were other parts to the Japanese student (though I think that was Texas) that were not being reported (quelle surprise) which, while not making the event particularly better, do shine a different light on things.

Yea, it was not Florida, but Louisiana.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Yoshihiro_Hattori
The defendant (shooter) stated that japanese guy/boy was 'moving erratically' and did not "freeze". I guess, he did not know that it means "stop immediately".
In the criminal trial-not guilty, in the civil, liable with $650K damages.

Here is my 2c about that "purple" posts and shooting those who went past them.
In short, it is idiotic, imho.
Your idiot opinion has been noted.
...good luck...

Fuck off you absolutely sheltered statist cuck.

Ignored for stupidity beyond my ability to comprehend.

Now...who is being triggered?
Not the first time too.
This is a thing with people like you. You can't tolerate a difference of opinion.
Immediate regress into name calling, etc.
Be well..ciao.

... exquisite response to the triggerred liberal

... but pretty sure your purple-marked posts need to be some colour other than purple for the bottom 3-5 feet

... I can bring over a tin of black paint and a brush and we'll get to work painting your black bottoms? .... Or is it bottoms black?

..bring it over? well, well, well.
Triggered? I don't really care...just somehow it became a dominant topic around here. Seems largely off topic to me.
But, you can paint each other bottoms or tops in purple or black and maybe put on some fur hats and dance in a circle..it's mostly "free" country still.

A "funny" poll proposal:

In today's glitch we saw actual $ prices for the AD year?

Choices are:

2022-2030

2031-2050

2051-2140

2141-3000

Never

It's probably all normal and stuff, but all these stories about "red" posts, trespassers, etc. made me less interested in buying a ranch, sorry.
The lake-that's another story...eventually.
1751  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 14, 2021, 12:26:26 AM
Well, it does not look like anything good is happening.
Contrast this with early in the year when almost everybody were salivating at the prospect of selling a bunch at 100K-300K...since EVERYBODY knew that that's were we would be in December.

Too many people looking at inflation and thinking "I'd better keep hold of my filthy fiat as I'm not going to be able to buy as much with it" rather than "I'd better buy something worth holding with my filthy fiat before the government makes it worthless", I suspect.

yep which is why you need to develop a fiat to btc ratio that makes sense for you.

I am older so we are set up as below

The wife is 100% fiat.

I am 80% BTC .

And each year I am gaining on the wife with my btc. net value as compared to her fiat + house net value.

my wife is 100% stocks, and I am mostly bitcoin plus a 60/40 high growth stocks/cash (short term bonds) in "regular" portfolio.
That said, her portfolio slightly outperformed btc since four years ago exactly.
You can check yourself: QQQ is up 2.488X (392.26/157.65) since Dec 13 2017, while bitcoin is 2.346X (46522/19835).
Four years is a pretty long time, presumably a whole cycle, so spare me bias complains and talk about picking up bottoms as almost nobody can do that.
Hopefully, it would be much better going forward and if not, I might still hodl as I don't understand most stocks valuation, currently.
1752  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 13, 2021, 10:51:07 PM
@jjg...still ways to go before you learn how 'normal' humans typically talk to each other.
To whatever you say, i would respond...let's wait and see.
I understand that you are somewhat limited in what you can 'predict' and therefore, react unfavorably when someone does that "unusual' thing.
It's a weakness..you should "fight" it.
However, I see no value in various stepwise buy, sell scenarios, which are boring as heck, so it is that.
1753  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 13, 2021, 09:42:25 PM

It's time to start believing that bitcoin price is simply chaotic now with an upward trend driven by diminishing pulses from the halvings.
In retrospect, maybe about 70K top (intermediate or not) was inevitable, considering the bulk of the data or is it?
Consider this series: 32, 1160, 19835, "68991".
First three tops already happened.
From the first to the second it was X36.25X, from second to third  X17.09, so the third interval (8.06X, if you project diminishing returns) should have been to $159,811, NOT 68991.
What's wrong? I guess nothing and it simply does not fit into linear logic any longer.
What about lows?

2, 175, 3100:

87.5X, then 17.71X, then it should be 3.58X, which is only $11,110, which is crazily low number (below 200wk MA)-quite unlikely.

Let's look again at that 159,811 number and assume that's where it should have peaked if not for a bunch of a-holes pushing it down.
A 'normal" 80% drawdown from there is $31,962, which is at or even slightly higher than where we were in June.

Therefore, I have a new thesis: this cycle was scrambled by the covid and multiple hasty gov "responses", so it did not pan out as predicted.
Instead, we truly peaked in Feb at 65K, got cut short by China, then we cycle-corrected to 29K.
Since June, we are in the new cycle, which started unusually robustly (since there was some unused buying energy that got curtailed by China), in a way, similar to a "premature" pop to 14K in the summer of 2019.
Now, we are getting to the plateau stage, but, hopefully, not lower than ~30K.

I continue to hold, but expect a bottoming pattern for a while since we are too ealy in a new cycle to experience rapid growth.

TL;DR we are already in the new cycle and expecting 160K soonish is in vain. BTW, congrats to @LFC on a cycle top sell (of at least a portion).

The 1st episode of Expanse, Season 6 is out on Prime..pretty sweet.
They are releasing it peace-meal this time.

Maybe btc will break 50K tomorrow night?

A probing question that may be discussed in hypothetical if someone does not want to divulge their actual status vs that territory.
This is only relevant to US inhabitants. I was looking into Puerto Rico tax heaven situation.
So far, the answer for me is in the negative. Why?

1. It only refers to taxes on gains made AFTER you move there.
2. You have to physically be there 183 days a year or more.
3. A pretty steep fees at 20-25K/year per nose (participant).
4. Real estate in desirable places in PR is VERY expensive.
5. It is hot and humid with lots of RE upkeep.

Advantage-almost no taxes, however, in US, there is NO cap gains taxes up to 80K/year for a family , so you may peel off that much a year and not pay a penny.
For 80-501K-15%, not too bad either.
Taken together with getting cash via borrowing against your satoshis makes the tax bill less relevant.

Thoughts?

... very important concepts elucidated in this interview, Jason Lowery appears to be as visionary as they come in the bitcoin field

https://youtu.be/dqt23rVxmpY?t=3565

... proof-of-energy (energy production power projection) as a means for projecting superior power to back monetary units will be a huge evolutionary leap over proof-of-war, military power projection backed monetary units ... which has reached it's ultimate stalemate in nuclear mutually-assured-destruction endpoint anyway)

... the new accounting will be joules/sat not bombs/dollar

... thesis is about "mutually assured preservation"

... talks about and positive-sum games where everybody wins, not winner takes all, aka Nash equilibriums, everybody wins when homo-sapiens adopt bitcoin

No doubt.  Great advantage is afforded those who can see farther into the future.  He is still very young.  He will be a very wealthy, and possibly powerful man.

yes, an interesting fella.

@jjg...something is not computing right again...an urgent upgrade is needed.

Can we have our little playground?
I hope so.

I would love to hear a nice and NEW story about what we can do with bitcoin.

I still cannot really comprehend what that military dude who @MA linked to was talking about.
Few examples below.
He said something like: "bitcoin is human antlers"-to simplify meaning those with more bitcoin would "dominate" those without.
Interesting, but a bit of an outlier thought.
Also compares btc/watts with current situation of using lives to protect property.
The former is superior as per his position.
Another: "Bitcoin is a defensive network", "It is defending people who decided to use this network to hold their property (in btc)".
Using watts instead of lives to protect property.
Quite interesting.

yea, good find @jojo69, but their Big League(s) suck balls...manipulation, interference, front running, etc., etc.
Honestly, I think they lost the ability to properly allocate money to most productive enterprises of the future.
