1961  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: vareole is a scammer ... on: August 13, 2021, 10:57:12 PM
and what is this "Self Moderated" stuff...

Freedom.  And the ability to keep your own threads from being spammed and driven off-topic.  It's quite helpful in many situations.

It's basically a hall pass for every scammer to just not allow anyone of their victims to post on their thread ...

Like any liberty, there are those who'll abuse it.

makes me think the mods are in it too ...

Nice try.  I understand the desire to shift the blame, but the mods aren't culpable.  You got scammed, the scammer is the only one to blame, but only you can prevent it from happening again.  Scams aren't moderated here on this forum.  There is no way for admin or mods to prevent every scam, and therefor any attempt will only lead to a false sense of security.
1962  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 13, 2021, 12:46:54 AM
I can do that Friday night the 3rd if people can do that night.  If people can't do the weekday nights then possibly the Friday, Saturday or Sunday the weekend before?  Are weekdays completely out?

I'm open to any of these suggestions.  I forgot that the Sept. 4th was Labor Day Weekend, I have motorcycle ride planned with a buddy that weekend.  I would probably be able to make it to a hotel room by 4pm (Pacific time equivalent to 7pm Eastern) to participate, but it would be difficult.  Friday the 3rd would be better for me, and I'm also open to the weekend of the 28th.  No pressure to make any changes on my account, I'll accommodate whatever decision is agreed upon.

I took the U38.5 on the WAS/NE game.

Lol.  That's probably a safe bet, until it isn't.  I'm very shy about betting on meaningless games, especially preseason NFL with so many unpredictable new players trying to noticed.  Good luck.

I don't really keep track of the days anymore and totally forgot it was Thursday!

Must be nice, braggard!  Tongue
1963  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 12, 2021, 03:17:42 PM
so what do you think about conducting the draft on September 4th which is a Saturday between 7PM to 10PM EST?

This if fine with me.

The NFL is cracking down big time on taunting, you won't get away with only 15-yard penalty anymore, for two violations, you'll be ejected from the game and face suspension  Shocked

This reminds me of when they started flagging celebrations a few years ago.  That turned into a quite a fiasco, and if I remember correctly they reversed course on that rule the next year.  This probably wouldn't have even been an issue if it wasn't for that incident in the Super Bowl.  I expect some prominent players to get dinged by this rule for doing what they've been doing most of their lives; taunting each other on the field.  It's part of the game, part of almost any team sport for that matter.  Once the rule is applied in a controversial way, the resulting backlash will likely cause the league to reverse course next year.  It wouldn't be the first time.
1964  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor-Suite and OS tracks? on: August 12, 2021, 12:20:07 AM
I'm not sure that you can compare Trezor Suite with Electrum in an apples to apples type of way.  Electrum requires that you save wallet files locally, which is why it creates a hidden user directory.  Suite just reads the derivation paths from the hardware wallet to populate the information.  I would assume that any runtime environment files it needs will temporarily populate in the /run directory.

Admittedly, I've only used Suite with Windows, and used the installer.  I've never ran it in Ubuntu (my preferred Linux distro,) so I have no experience with the appimage.
1965  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 11, 2021, 10:59:22 PM
I'll admit that I thought FlyingHellFish was a poor moderator of the P&S section because he was too biased, and I was of the opinion that his bias influenced his moderation duties.  For the same reasons I think QuickPrimeSeller7 would also be poor moderator of that section, even if I do agree with him (in political terms) more often than not.  If he's volunteering, my (presumptive) vote is "NAY."

I actually enjoy a political debate from time to time, but I find the P&S section to be more of a troll show than anything.  There are very few rational debates, and both liberals and conservatives end up reverting to trolling one another.  I often find myself succumbing to the trolling as well when I engage in those topics, which is why I tend to steer clear of most of the threads there.  It takes a lot of effort to remain calm and rational when most participants are engaging in such BS.  I don't envy anyone who tries to moderate that section.

1966  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum on flathub? on: August 11, 2021, 08:07:44 PM
The source of the binary is at least from electrum's official website and the hash matches from the source.
Lines 74-78: https://github.com/flathub/org.electrum.electrum/blob/master/org.electrum.electrum.json#L74-L78
However, there are lot of other requirements from "python3-requirements-binaries.json", "python3-requirements.json", "python3-requirements-hw.json" alongside the installation which you can check if something shouldn't be there (most checks out BTW).

But please don't take this as a vouch Lips sealed

That's a bit of a relief, but it's still troubling.  Something like this could be an attempt to get people comfortable downloading Electrum source from an alternative site, and turn into a trojan horse in the future.  I personally would recommend that people only use the official Electrum site or the GitHub repository, which is managed by the same crew.
1967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 11, 2021, 03:57:47 PM
Just thought I would share this with you guys and am curious what you all think - https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31993538/tampa-bay-buccaneers-tom-brady-releasing-debut-set-nfts .

Brady is a big bitcoin and cryptocurrency supporter so I’m not surprised he’s releasing. Especially since Gronk has already released an NFT series himself. NBA Top Shot kind of soured me on trading card NFTs, but I suppose that’s a different thing in and of itself.

I keep learning about football players who are keen on crypto, I had no idea Brady and Gronk are among them.  That's cool.  Yet another reason to be a Tom Brady fan.

Preseason officially starts tomorrow, I'm looking forward to a weekend of football!  Meaningless football, but it's football none the less.  I hope to see the passel of first-round QB selections getting some snaps.  I really want to see Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson, and of course Trey Lance.
1968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: August 11, 2021, 03:20:28 PM
I don't think Fabio can really fight for the win, the Yamaha clearly has too little top speed and the RedBull Ring is the track with the most full throttle in the season.
At last week's race if you remember Quartararao was penalized so he had to start in 3rd position. Luckily, Quartararo was still able to maintain his rank to stay on the podium. Martin was lucky, apart from having a fast bike he had a good start so he could win. Quartararo doesn't have a fast bike like a Ducati or a KTM, but if he starts at the front it might be in his favour. I think next week he will still be serious about winning.

Winning races is over-rated.  Of course it's the goal and everybody wants to win each and every race, but when it comes to the championship consistency is far more important.  Look at Zarco, for example: He's second in the standings, only 40 point behind Quartararo, and yet he hasn't won a single race all season.  Two DNFs for Quartararo along with second place finishes for Zarco and they would be tied.

As for the Yamaha's speed, the Red Bull Ring is not likely to cater to the bike's strengths.  The Yamaha is probably the fastest cornering bike on the circuit, but certainly not the top speed contender.  As long as Quartararo can finish in the top 5 he's only adding to his lead and keeping the rest of the field playing catch-up.

The government of a country has no direct power over the FIA, there is absolutely no way Orban could do anything to Vettel. And if he tried, the backlash would be immense, not just from the FIA but from the EU. Finally european money would be cut.

This discussion should probably be taking place in the Politics and Society board.  I will say this, however; the Woke Brigaded have declared war on Hungary (one of the last truly conservative countries in the EU,) and this is just another excuse to vilify their enemy.
1969  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 11, 2021, 02:52:59 PM
Every signature campaign that has a member banned for spamming receives a negative point, and after x number of negative points that signature campaign is booted from the forum.

I like this idea.  I don't want to throw all campaign managers under the bus, there are some who are quite diligent and respectful of the forum.  They are the ones who are quite critical of the users they allow in their campaigns, and don't tolerate spam.  It doesn't take much to figure out who they are.

But, there is very little accountability for spamming by many campaign managers.  Most of the guilty ones tend to be new.  They accept managerial positions for shady campaigns that are intent on spamming the forum, hiring as many accounts as possible, at meager rates, and send them out to flood the forum with low quality posts.  It seems like the only thing these managers care about are the blatant violations of the rules, like plagiarism, but when it comes to the quality of posts they are completely oblivious.  They tolerate low quality posts and spam because the rules are vague and they know they can get away with it.

Those campaign managers are earning money for their tasks, but their employers are the ones who are really responsible for the spam.  The managers themselves have an obligation to preserve the quality of the forum, but they don't seem to concern themselves with the preservation of the opportunity, the opportunity that wouldn't exist if wasn't granted by the forum, not the shady outfit for whom they work.
1970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 10, 2021, 10:39:53 PM
If you do this, then I am absolutely sure that it will not look biased towards other pools or bookmakers.

I'm absolutely sure you're wrong about that.  I think it would be a conflict of interest for a global moderator who's managing the pool to pin the thread for this pool and no other.  Not that H&Co would profit from it, but he is sporting a Sportsbet.io signature in one of his accounts, and Sportsbet.io is sponsoring this pool.  It definitely would look like preferential treatment, and would cause a shit-storm of controversy.

Unless it's a rules thread or a generic guide I don't think it should be pinned, in my opinion.

Are we expecting many more? 27 is about what we normally get isn’t it, a pretty good number tbh but would be cool to get a few more.

I think we had 50 participants last year, which is a pretty good turnout.  I don't know about the previous years, last year was the first time I participated.  Being that it's a pool, the more the merrier and the bigger the prize pool.  I can't think of any drawbacks to having more people join.
1971  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sportsbet.io - Main sponsor of Southampton FC on: August 10, 2021, 02:52:42 PM
I got tired of waiting for the Premier League to get underway, so this past weekend I placed some small bets on Major League matches.  I jagged a sweet bet builder win betting on the New England Revolution:

Messi, Mbappe, Ramos, Hakimi, Donnarumma, Neymar, Verrati, Marquinhos...well,

Sounds legit.  I might have to copy you on that one.

Unfortunately 43free and BetFree6 stopped appearing for me since around the Olympics. The last games I remember for 43free was the Japan soccer matches,,, and then before that was the EURO Betfree6. I tried the link you posted directly but it just takes me to Featured Sports page.

They aren't always active for me, but I just signed on and found them both active.  4/3Free focuses on the Brentford - Arsenal match, and looks fairly straight forward.  It should result in a lot of free bets.

1973  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Failed to Run Electrum after Updating on: August 09, 2021, 03:06:42 PM
I'm going to throw out a wild guess here and suggest that you had a version of electrum running when you tried to install the new version.  If you're installing the new version into a different directory it may work, but it'll still look for configuration data in the same user directory.  That's very likely to cause a conflict.

In my opinion, the best practice is to uninstall all previous versions of Electrum before installing the new version.  Make sure to backup your wallets first as a precaution.
1974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 09, 2021, 02:44:39 PM
It must have something to do with the fact that 0.0045BTC (last year's entry fee) is written all over the OP so people think that's the fee. It should be updated to reflect the new season and adjusted 0.002BTC fee.
Next to nobody will be reading the op in here.

You're probably right, if anyone was paying attention to the thread they would (or should know) that this years fee is 0.002BTC.  But NotATether has a point.  If some newcomer did check the OP they would see that it was edited on August 5th, yet the entry fee is listed as 0.0045.  It's certainly possible that could deter people from joining.  It certainly couldn't hurt to edit that part of the post.

Crazy race day with Pedrosa's crash.  I was glad to see he and Lorenzo Savadori were unhurt.  I found it funny that the let Pedrosa back into the race, but I guess rules are rules.

Sad to see Jack Miller crash out again today.  Barring a miraculous remainder of the season, that just about puts him out of contention for championship.  I was predicting a Yamaha - Ducati finish to the season, but I figured it would be the factory Ducati team, lol.

1976  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 08, 2021, 07:50:45 PM
Mind you, I've put plenty of win-to-nil predictions, hedging the incredible Specials on Matchday 1 Sportsbet has put out (433/1 for BTTS on all games and 366/1 on a goal in each half).

This thread also gets bumped fairly often, so hard to imagine regulars unaware of it now.
Both hilarius and me are using "old" threads for our respective pools so I am sure all the gambling section regulars have to be aware of them. Right?
Regarding those specials you mentioned, go read Sportsbet twitter or my last post for nice small surprise. Could have worded it better Smiley

Maybe it's psychological.  Bitcoin having such a higher value than it did this time last year might make some feel like it's more expensive than last year.  But again, we have a week before the season starts and there are still some who haven't registered.  18 members have registered on Superbru, but the address shows at least 25 member have paid the entrance fee.  Hopefully we can get at least five more to join in the next week.
1977  Economy / Reputation / Re: Several Accounts Misspelling Manchester City Footballer "Kelvin De Bruyne" on: August 08, 2021, 07:12:24 PM
If used an autocorrect and it suggested Diogo Maradona rather than Diego Maradona I literally have no excuses to not ensure it shows correctly when I submit the post.

Roll Eyes

So, the next time you misspell an athletes name, I'll assume your account has been hacked and proceed to red-tag it.  Deal?

The fact that we have a page and half discussing such a tenuous connection is really laughable.  People misspell words all the time.  I think I have a fairly advanced grasp of the English language, and I misspell words, or use the wrong word all together.  Just this morning I noticed that in a post I made after a couple of glasses of wine last night I used the word "reigns" when I meant "reins."  I know the difference, but I made a mistake because I'm human.

Knowing how poorly autocorrect works for native English, I can only imagine the horror for those who aren't native speakers of the language.

Barcelona is also having partnership with 1xbet
Are you sure that Barcelona has a partnership with 1xbet. I am sorry but I have no idea about it. But if they have a partnership then I think they do not clearly known about the scam activity of 1xbet. But I have doubt about their partnership. I think if they have partnership with 1xbet then they will not delay to cancel the deal after the clarification of the scam activity.

1xBet is indeed a sponsor of Barcelona FC, but don't confuse 1xBet with 1xBit.  1xBet is a legitimate sportsbook.  1xBit is a scam hoping the subtle difference gives them more opportunities to scam.

This from Barcelona FC's website: https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/club/sponsors/

Must be a record for these promotional offers as I thought the 200+ odd ones were the limit. But I think 400+ breaks them all. Wink
Unfortunately I missed the 433x promotion by 15 minutes while waiting for my satoshis to arrive into my sportsbet wallet yesterday.
Should of put a bit more on the transaction fee then I would be in the fold too.

Yeah, nice odds on that one, unfortunately I missed it too.  There's another decent one available right now; a goal in each half of all week-1 fixtures, 366:1.

Messi won't go to MLS , stop with this false rumors!

He just said in public that wants to win ANOTHER UCL Trophy! He still has the hunger for trophies and to be honest , PSG is kinda the only club right now who could offer this benefits to Messi because PSG can win Ligue 1, Copa France and SuperCup France so it's 3 trophies in 1 year. Also he said that he somehow wants to overtake Dani ALves who just got his 45th trophy after winning Olympics with Brasil but Messi only has 37 and at least 3 more years in Europe so I think he will overtake Alves until he retires.

As an MLS fan I would love to see Messi in the MLS.  I think it's a long shot, but there's no doubt in my mind that an MLS team or two are making an attempt.  They would be foolish not to.  It's not likely to generate the glory that Messi is looking for, so again I doubt it could happen.

@DireWolfM14. How much time would he be given and when? Would you speculate 8 weeks, 10 weeks? Jimmy Garoppolo will certainly not like that. This might also give Bill Belichick an opporutnity before the deadline on November. Choosing Cam Newton as the first quarterback might not take them to the playoffs.

Assuming that Garoppolo doesn't get traded before week one (when his $25m salary will be guaranteed) I imagine we'll see Trey in some trick plays and designed QB runs.  We might see him as early as week one.  As for taking over the reigns, It wouldn't surprise me if Shanahan makes the change after the bye week.

There have been some rumors lately that Shanahan and Lynch really fell out of love with Jimmy G after he showed up at camp in 2020 totally out of shape and out of sync.  Imagine how Tom Brady would have prepared for the upcoming season if he had narrowly lost the previous Super Bowl...  Garoppolo prepared himself with vacations and parties.  Not the work ethic Shanahan is looking for.  Regardless of whether the rumors are true, it's pretty obvious that Garoppolo's days as a 49er are numbered.  Shanahan will take every opportunity to promote Jimmy G as one of the best, because he want's his trade value to go up.  If some one offers a first round pick for Jimmy before the start of the season, count him gone.
