Simple answer: No.

However, Electrum was first released about ten years ago, and it's not an "exchange."  It's a light client wallet software only.  Do the wallet files you found have an extension such as wallet.dat?  If so, it could be a bitcoin core wallet, not an Electrum wallet.  Although, early on Electrum did include an extension to the wallet files.

That wasn't a recommendation, merely an observation.  Generally I agree with you, however there are ways to safely and securely create a Bip39 seed phrase on an offline machine that can be used with Electrum or a hardware wallet.  Many here have warned about using Ian Coleman's Bip39 tool, siting the concern that a browser doesn't provide enough entropy.  However, the Bip39 tool does provide the option of entering your own entropy, and /dev/urandom can be used create a HEX string with the desired entropy.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see that as any less secure than allowing a hardware wallet to generate a seed.

There are plenty of reasons to beat up on Timelord2067, but I don't think this is one of them.  When I first saw the _BlackStar handle, I was also suspicious that this member was trying to impersonate DarkStar_.  Not because the names are so similar, or that I'm unreasonable (though I've had my moments,) but because of who DarkStar_ is and how much trust the community has for him.

I made a point to keep an eye on _BlackStar's posting habits to see if he was trying to mimic a senior member of the forum.  I wouldn't put it past a scammer to create a user name similar enough to that of a trusted member, then send PMs to people who post in said trusted member's service threads.  An unsuspecting newbie might mistake _BlackStar for DarkStar_, or might be lulled into thinking it's DarkStar_'s alt account.  It's not out of the realm of possibilities.

And in the end, who cares?  It's just a neutral tag from a member who's unlikely to ever make it onto DT.

That username seems like a much more egregious attempt to impersonate DarkStar_, but it's since it's been "archived."  I suspect there were some nefarious activities from that account.

Are congratulations in order?  I really don't know, but thanks for the head's up anyway.  To be honest I doubt I would have noticed that your name is now all caps if you hadn't mentioned it.  Don't take that personally, there's a lot that slips by me.

As for your reasoning, I don't know if that's going to solve all your problems with Telegram.  There are still ways to mimic your new username, for example: C00LCRYPT0VAT0R (spelled with zeros) doesn't look much different.  I know that the letter "L" in lower case can easily be misleading when replaced with a capitol "I" in Telegram, but I'm not sure of how other letters appear.  I had a situation where someone was trying to mimic my user name by replacing the "L" in Wolf with a capitol "I."  I reported that user to Telegram and now he's gone.

To prevent people from confusing me with an impersonator in Telegram I included my Telegram username in my BitcoinTalk.org profile.  Since then I haven't had any issues.

Yeah, if your seed ends up in google search results, 2FA will do nothing to protect your funds.  A passphrase can be set up with along with a 2FA wallet, and just like above, that would help somewhat.


I don't think Electrum has a limit to the length of an extension, but some hardware wallets do.  Trezor has a limit of about 50 characters, so if you want to add an extension to a Bip39 seed phrase and want it compatible with hardware wallets, that'll be a limiting factor.

That may be the case here, I don't know.  It's impossible to determine.  What is clear is that there are an alarming number of accusations against you.  That alone is troubling, but when I add the fact that your business dealings are unscrupulous it makes me more inclined to believe some are accurate.

Nonetheless, at least now when the next newbie shows up here to accuse you of scamming them, they won't have the excuse that there wasn't any warning by DT members.

I love it!  I played with the new Tor site last night and it worked great.  I sent some coins to mix, split chips, combined chips, created a voucher, and withdrew some coins.  All features worked fine.  
And, now we have Segwit addresses!  Woot woot!

Those are great suggestions.  A simple landing page behind Cloudflare would help protect the clear net site from DDOS attacks would likely resolve a lot of the issues.  Even if all it did was prevent the main landing page from going down, that might be enough to prevent most people from clicking on the first link they see in the google search results.

As of a couple of days ago the real ChipMixer clear net site has been under DDOS attacks.  Yesterday the site was pulled from google's search results, and only phishing sites are included in the results.  As of today, the clear net site is unreachable.  This has happened before, leading to many people to lose their money to scammers.

Do not fall for this scam attempt.  Be diligent and ensure you're dealing with the real ChipMixer.

What would the addition of those features do, exactly?  Would adding version within the seed phrase prevent older wallet clients from deriving the correct wallets from newer seeds?  Would adding derivation path feature lock the seed to a specific path, not allowing the seed to be used to generate other wallets?  Just asking out of curiosity.  I can see how adding these features might make seeds more user friendly, even if they are less versatile.

I get the sense that the OP has confused his "password" with "passphrase," and I'm not sure that that jackg's warning was understood.  Needless to say the funds need to be moved regardless of whether they're hidden behind a passphrase or not.  The sooner the funds get moved the better.

As for the 2FA, I recommend you avoid it.  The fee they charge (which allow you 20 transaction per fee paid) are more than the cost of quality hardware wallet.

While I'm here I figure I'll take a stab at explaining the difference between "password" and "passphrase" as far as Electrum wallets are conserned:

On the screen shot below is how you create a password to encrypt the wallet file.  The password will be needed to open the file, and send bitcoin.  This is not to be confused with a "passphrase."  The password will NOT protect your funds if the seed phrase has been compromised.


To create a bip39 "passphrase," or as it's referred to by Electrum, a "seed extension" you have to create (or enter) it by selecting the "options" button on the seed entry dialogue box:




The seed extension, or "passphrase" can be one or more words, a strong random password with letters, numbers, and symbols, or a combination.  This will change the HD wallet's addresses from those that are generated by the seed phrase alone.  If you have set a passphrase and your seed phrase is compromised your funds will be safe, although I wouldn't consider them safe for long.  Consider it as an additional safety measure to help buy you some time in case your seed does get compromised.

ETA:  Remember that the passphrase is as important to secure as the seed phrase.  If a passphrase is set, it will be required to restore the wallet in the future.  Just like the seed phrase, if the passphrase is lost, so are the funds.

Don't get me wrong; from a fantasy football perspective, I think Rodgers can be statistically successful anywhere he decides to go.  

If we're talking about how successful his chosen team will be, that depends largely on the coaching staff.  Will Jon Gruden do what's needed to leverage what Rodgers' statistics could yield?  In all honesty I'm not a huge fan of Jon Gruden, and I believe he could have helped Derek Carr a bit more.  Rodgers would be an obvious upgrade, but the Raiders would need so much more to mimic the Tampa Bay story line.  

One of the reasons Brady is toting a sixth ring is because Bruce Arians built the team around his strengths.  That doesn't just mean convincing Gronk to come out of retirement, and ensuring a strong running attack.  It also meant having one of the stingiest defenses in the league.  If your offense is constantly chasing a points deficit, your impressive quarterback's stats don't always translate to wins.


I don't doubt any of that.  Rodgers is a northern California native, and I'm sure he would like nothing more than to be closer to home.  Now that he's engaged to an actress (who I presume lives in LA, but I really don't know,) I imagine Las Vegas would be pretty convenient for his personal life.  And, as far as I know, he's even more bitter than I am that Mike Nolan didn't draft him first overall.

Although I know it's a long shot, I still hope to see Rodgers in 49er uniform one of these days.

As others have outlined you're on the right track.  There are some risks to what your proposing if your intention is to keep the coin in a hot wallet.  If your goal is to redeem the entire value of the coin and convert it to fiat you can avoid an additional transaction fee by sweeping the funds directly into your exchange wallet.  To do so, use a bitcoin address you obtain from your exchange to create a watch-only wallet; File>New/Restore>Next> then select "Import bitcoin address or private keys."

After the wallet has been created and you've confirmed the validity of the address you can sweep the funds directly to your exchange; Wallet>Private Keys>Sweep.

I don't know if that's such a bad thing.  Since you're suggesting attracting more people to the forum; imagine if every one involved in cryptocurrency was an active user.  I doubt Bitcointalk.org could exist as a forum, and would have to take on the form of reddit or twitbook.  I'm not a fan of those platforms, which is why I'm here and thankful for the forum's existence.

Although I tend to agree with you that the forum doesn't get the credit and recognition it deserves.  Obviously it's the most significant repository of Bitcoin's history, so it does strike me as odd.  It's especially obvious during Pizza Day when many main stream media outlets discuss the first publicly-known real-world bitcoin transaction.  The forum is rarely mentioned by name in those reports, and many articles glance over it simply as a chat site.
