Visualize this impossible mission to brute force it. If you create your wallet properly, follow security basics and are not curious to try new cool wallet software, your wallet is safe as well as your Bitcoin.

Like this "Bitcoin - your money is secured by the laws of the universe"

2063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to sign a message with segwit address? on: July 18, 2022, 05:50:41 AM
It is possible, but segwit signatures have not been standardized, so they will be different for each wallet.
2064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to sign a message with segwit address? on: July 18, 2022, 05:23:46 AM
I see the simple way is to transfer 1 sat from my address and the other way is to sign a message.
You use your key to sign a message but you don't have to spend any sat, make any on-chain transaction to sign a Bitcoin message.

Quote
The first question: is this possible in bitcoin core?
Yes. Not only with Bitcoin Core but also with other non-custodial wallets.

Quote
I want a way to verify the ownership of my address by signing a message with its private key / wallet password.
You misunderstood it. You sign, others will verify it and confirm your ownership.

Of course, you can try to sign a message and verify it too.

Quote
He might agree to send few Satoshis for me but might not sign a message for me. (so, signing message using bitcoin core would be the best choice, if that is possible)
Your friend can only sign a message if you share your keys to him. It is risky because you will no longer the only ownership of that wallet. You and your friend co-own that wallet.

I gave you one merit that will be enough for you to rank up to Jr. member and be able to post images.

However, I reported lot of your posts with a reason "Old bump".

Maybe you don't know much about rule, let me share.
13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours per thread. Bumping multiple threads at the same time is allowed if it's not annoying. [2][e]

21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]
2066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries have banned Bitcoin; Do you believe is because of criminal activities on: July 17, 2022, 03:56:06 PM
Most countries are giving excuses and  reason for banning Bitcoin is because it can easily be used to fund crimes.
Everything on Earth can be used for criminal activities. There is black and white story and there are people who stay in different sides.

Do the world ban Internet because bad people use to to sell addictive drugs, terrorist and other bad things? They can not ban Internet because it is a necessary part of human civilization. They can try to censor contents on Internet, stricter regulations etc but no completely ban.

Quote
But I think they are afraid of losing control of their citizens' financial activities because they believe being the ones regulating financial activities makes them powerful.
They want to protect their centralized and inflationary finance systems. They will try to make more regulations to control and reduce the power of Bitcoin and decentralized finance but they can not ban such hazard things entirely. By hazard I meant, in view of governments, not citizens.
2067  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source observations on: July 17, 2022, 03:36:32 PM
Isn't it better that people nowadays can rank up easier than years ago? From my understanding, point of merit system is to prevent shitposters and spammer from ranking up and not to make it a struggle for decent members to rank up like it was at the beginning (at least that's what you said).
Misunderstood perhaps.

I meant good posters deserve to rank up. Fast or slow, it depends on their contributions but if they don't actually make excellent contents, merit they received should be equal to their contribution quality.

It is like you make a charity to build up your reputation but if you shows it publicly, your reputation will increase faster but it does not actually make your reputation is better than others who do charity silently. In short term, make noise will increase it a bit but in long term, it is the same.

You never can verify what they actually do from their initiative announcement but you can verify their post quality.

Merit sources are more than they were few years ago. sMerits have increased. It's natural, therefore, to reward more generously.
It is part of the merit system issue. theymos watches it carefully and rarely to make significant changes in merit source number and merit source allocation. Over inflation of merit source and merit source allocation can create a new generation of pseudo-quality members who will turn to likely spammers after ranking up.
2068  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source observations on: July 17, 2022, 02:24:51 PM
Therefore, some Merit Sources do not always give away their 30-day quota in full for a simple reason: there is simply nowhere to distribute them, unless you increase the average value of the given merit per post.
Please don't increase merit per post according to their same quality.

It is not fair for people years ago have to struggle to rank up and nowadays simply posting some merit-fishing initiatives and receive a lot of merit. I don't call them as shit posters, their post quality is good enough but let's keep their rank-up as natural as it should be. Don't distort your rules of meriting only because you feel you must keep your source-merit bag as emptiest as possible.

2072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's faceless identity is the greatest Bitcoin success strategy on: July 17, 2022, 12:23:26 PM
Some lessons from Satoshi Nakamoto aka satoshi in Bitcointalk forum are
  • If you leak your identity on Internet, you lose it forever.
  • Satoshi Nakamoto did aware importance of privacy and cared of it at beginning
  • Satoshi's lesson. That topic is very inspirational. You should read it.
2073  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Account Seller (Selling account) on: July 16, 2022, 05:17:18 PM
Price is 0.5 BTC, really? Are we back to the days of 2013 or earlier?  Grin

Assume my account is sold for 0.5 BTC, buyer will hardly to use it to scam anyone with 0.5BTC or higher. If using this account to work, it requires so many times to get 0.5 BTC initial capital back. With Wasabi campaign I am promoting, it takes 25 months to earn 0.5 BTC. It's not a good deal.

So the 0.5 BTC offer for any trusted account is unreal. Seller is a scammer.  Smiley
2074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is yours thought about SLP( Smooth Love Potion) ? on: July 16, 2022, 04:54:44 PM
SLP is an altcoin (token) so this discussion belongs to Altcoin discussion. Please move it there.

Issue with Axie Infinity is Play to Earn. This article is comprehensive about it, A Billion-Dollar Crypto Gaming Startup Promised Riches and Delivered Disasterp

They created something unsustainable at beginning and reacted too late to stop the death spiral and they will have to create a very different model for their games in order to get rid of sell pressure and bring SLP, AXS back to higher price. It won't be done in short term and success or not, it will depend not only on time, general crypto market but also on their solution to fix their model.
2075  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's so hard to rank-up? on: July 16, 2022, 02:40:24 PM
Sure it is, but looking at my history I already made topics here before and I'm still motivated to have more.
Just like what I've said in OP, I'm trying to be more active and be more helpful as much as possible. Smiley
Keep up your improvement, weeks or months later, your post quality will be much different than now. I am sure if you continue like that, you will rank up not only to Full Member but also higher rank. Now, at least for me, I will keep watching and seeing you around but not meriting you immediately.  Cheesy

Seriously, my purpose for this topic is to give tips to a newbie not to do the same mistakes
Unnecessary to do so. Let's save your time, to improve yourself.

There are enough resources (sticky threads and other guide threads like yours) for newbies to read. Their problem is they ignore all of that at beginning. If they ignore forum rules, sticky threads, they will ignore yours as well.

11k Merit Club: 2 members
10k Merit Club: 1 member
9k Merit Club: 1 member
8k Merit Club: 2 members
7k Merit Club: 2 members
6k Merit club: 4 members
Still 5 more months to the 4th anniversary of merit system and you guys have earned more than 6k to 11k merit.
Merit system launched on January 24, 2018, 11:00:11 PM (forum time), or Wednesday 24 January 2018 22:12:21 (GMT time).
To take away all doubt: the first Merit was this one:
Code:
1516831941	1	2818066.msg28853325	35	877396
Use EpochConverter to convert 1516831941 (Unix Time) to GMT: Wednesday 24 January 2018 22:12:21.
What will happen next 10 years? 50k or 100k merit?

In future, when new members join forum, they will look at merit-earning beasts like merit rich gang. Even you guys stop posting, you will continue to receive merit from your past good posts.
2077  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's so hard to rank-up? on: July 16, 2022, 02:08:26 PM
Higher rank means good opportunities here in the forum, but why its so hard to rank up?
It's not so hard if you know I only joined the forum a few weeks before you.

Quote
1. You can't please everybody here - Even if you create a good topic, you can't expect everyone to appreciate your work and probably will receive little to none merit since we all have different standards and qualifications before we gave out merit.
You can not please everyone but in this forum, if you make good posts constantly and don't give up from a good poster to a spammer, you will receive merit, a lot.

Quote
To cut this story short, if you really want to rank up and have a good reputation just do the opposite, stay active, learn more and expect nothing.
You made hundred of posts that are either one-liner or mostly in spam boards like Altcoin discussions, Trading, Economics. First your posts have low quality. Second, spam boards don't catch attention of merit sources.

Bear market is bad for bounty hunters but it is good time for builders. You can start to change yourself, learn more and build your account in bear market. You don't have to make an announcement that "I am changing myself". Just do it silently and people will realize your positive changes. Merit will come after a while.
2078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Personal interest Over National Interest on Bitcoin By Countries on: July 16, 2022, 12:49:16 PM
I don't go to personal and national details but let's say general things.

Governments in different countries care more about their power, regime, etc. at first, and at last they look at their citizens. It's true from capitalism to communism or others, and from all aspects.

So citizens have to figure out ways to escape. One of solution and innovation is Bitcoin and blockchain that are initiated successfully for the first time by Satoshi Nakamoto. After more than 13 years, personal interest is still bigger than national interest but things are changing.

Gradually we are witnessing Bitcoin legal tender, CBDCs and global adoption.
2079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to know a good bounty on: July 16, 2022, 12:27:45 PM
I heard that some bounties fail to pay participants at the end of work. Considering this senerio, how can one know which bounty is a good to participate in?
Some criteria but no gold standard

  • Don't join bounty as your first priority
  • There are more things you can learn and find jobs in cryptocurrency industry that is growing with fastest rate ever in history
  • If you join bounty, let's consider
    • Manager is trusted and experienced so that there is enough pre-research before the bounty launch
    • Is bounty reward pool sent and Escrowed by the manager? If manager receive reward pool before a bounty launch, participants will be paid for sure -- we're talking about non-scam manager who won't run away with reward pool
    • Next, another risk. Reward you receive won't have any value or very low value.
