2101  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 🎃 [ANN] Bitcointalk Bitcoin Pumpkin Carving Contest 🎃 on: October 28, 2022, 06:10:58 AM
Spicy Mexican squash, bean and Bitcoin made with
some of the insides of the pumpkin!
and the real benefit of my pumpkin carving work is that I make a big pot of pumpkin soup

It's nice to see some people actually eating their pumpkins! Every year I see hundreds of pumpkins sitting outside of people's houses and then getting rotten: it makes me feel like it's a secret Halloween ritual where everyone sacrifices perfectly-good-to-eat pumpkins to Nurgle.

I at minimum eat the seeds. Regardless mine won’t go to waste, these guys are beefing up for the winter. Saw this on my dog walk today..

[/quote]

Same, I am still working my way through the seeds, they are tedious to shell, but a few every day is
manageable, good source of protein and better than wasting them.

At least some wildlife are making the most of what is being left outside.

I also have another bet on Felix AA to go further and beat  Kecmanovic tomorrow
Also waiting for FAA to win against Kecmanović but I took it a step further and took 2:0 victory @2.1. Those odds seem very generous to me and I don't see how FAA can lose his serve today unless he tanks. I coupled that with Bublik 2:0 @1.75 which already passed, I was also surprised for those since his opponent doesn't know how to play in fast indoor conditions.

Did not expect Rublev to lose against Dimitrov, wanted to play on him but odds were too small so I skipped. That was a lucky bit that you need to win, hopefully it will be enough.

Well you got the 2 - 0 win on Felix, good call on both. I don't think I would ever bet
on Bublik, I see him as very unpredictable. Both of those meet today, I have another
bet on Felix to win.

Stan played really well in this match against Rudd. But I think it was a really good show of strength and stamina from both players, it was also a test of patience for Stan.

Stan vs Brandon Nakashima is live now. I understand why the odds are not in favor of Stan. But at the same time, my heart says that Stan should be the winner in this match. However, I am not as confident about this one as I was in the previous match with Stan.

Stan Wawrinka made it a win at the third set 6-4 5-7 6-4. The second set have been a fightback. Now Wawrinka to play against Bautista Agur in the quarter finals. I find Stan Wawrinka to win the quarter finals. Bautista have reached the quarter finals defeating Andy Murray 6-3 6-2 in the direct sets. This will keep him boosted for a better performance against Stan Wawrinka.
& Swordsoffreedom

Stan is playing fantastic apart from the slip up when serving in the second set for
the match and getting broken and losing that set, he got the job done in the third eventually.

He plays Batista Agut later today, I have gone for another win for Stan.

Yes but as a good starting point proof of ownership should be  and has been established,
so now any further negotiations can be build on that.

Very interesting items from 2011 way out of my budget tho. unfortunately. GLWS

Rugby League World Cup

I have just two bets on - Ireland to beat Lebanon and Papua New Guinea to beat
the Cook Islands
, I have done a -16.5 point spread on that one.

My last two bets on the Rugby League World Cup didn't workout, Ireland were beaten
and Papua New Guinea only won by 16 points.

Rugby Union

Really busy time coming up in the calendar with the Autumn Internationals kicking off
in just over a week> https://www.autumn-internationals.co.uk/2022/

some serious games ahead:
Ireland v South Africa and Australia
England have 4 massive games against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.
Australia are playing Wales and Scotland also.
Argentina are playing 3 games, England, Scotland and Wales, tough matches for the Panthers.

I haven't looked at the odds yet but Ireland over South Africa could be interesting,
this will be our first game with no doubt new players in the mix, hmm a lot to think about.

URC

I haven't looked at what games are on this weekend

In the two games this evening there are surprisingly good odds on the favourites,
Leinster to beat Scarlets @ 1.31
Glasgow Warriors to beat Benneton @ 1.35

WRWC

Tricky game for both France and Italy coming up, I will probably go with France

2105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 27, 2022, 11:34:26 AM
I feel cringe reading this part.
It is amusing watching him get annihilated on Twitter.

Here's my favorite thing he's posted: https://nitter.it/agerhanssen/status/1583923967974203393#m. Could it have been "Half" Finney all along!? Cheesy

When can we expect the UK trial?
My understanding was it is not expected for another 12 months or so, but I cannot find a source for why I thought that.
Edit: This article indeed says "late 2023" for the UK case.

Will Hodlonaut be able to present the same KPMG reports in the UK case? or will he be able
to reference the findings of this recent case?

It looks like the next target of CSW is going to be Jameson Lopp. I guess that this guy doing this shitshow only to travel on others'  (Ayre's) money.
https://mobile.twitter.com/lopp/status/1585315567531364352

and likewise will Jameson Lopp be able to at least reference the Hodlonaut trial
findings?

I'm not sure if that is a practice, sounds like it could be from movies I saw in the past
but what is the reality I wonder....

It would be nice to imagine for both events being able to reference what happened in one
court of law that it would straight away throw doubt on CSW's claims.
2106  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 26, 2022, 09:19:35 PM
How about Stan Wawrinka defeating Casper Ruud in just 2 sets? 6-4, 6-4?

And yes, there are a lot of good matches as mentioned above and it's very to see which one is going to win.

Might be late in my timezone though, but definitely will be beating one of those matches and I will go with the over bet on this match. For sure it will be a very tough matches entering the quartefinals.

I actually saw part of Stan's win, this is his home tournament and he has never won it,
purely because Roger always wine it, he has 10 wins here I think.

Stan plays Brandon Nakashima tomorrow and is not favourite. 1.79 to 2.0, I have gone
with a straight win for Stan.

I also have another bet on Felix AA to go further and beat  Kecmanovic tomorrow
2107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what happens to bitcoin if the electricity and internet goes out.? on: October 26, 2022, 05:51:36 AM
I'm not going to echo what has already been said but how realistic is this in happening?

There are so many ways of generating electricity now that it would be quite remarkable
if they all ceased at the same time.

In this current climate of fuel shortage and "possible" power shortages we have to
remember that it's going to be temporary if it does happen, it's seasonal related
to the winter when power consumption is at its highest.

ALL power isn't going to go out for a solid 4 or 6 months.

I caught the last two sets of Alcaraz v Draper last night, Draper did really well by winning
the first set and almost bringing the third set to a tie break.

There are a lot of players present at the ATP Basel who have been making headlines recently,
Felix AA and Rune! I think this will be very interesting to see how these games turn out when
these young guns meet each other.

It was finally a strong performance from Alcaraz after some setbacks. I'm glad to see the number 1 seed winning again.

It was not clear, or at least I was not sure how the game would end after Alcaraz lost the first set. But Alcaraz made a comeback. He did well but I also think Draper put his heart and soul into this match. But in the end, it was not enough for Draper.

I think we are going to see a clash between young players. Especially players who are not only young but also really competent players in this game. Expectations are going to be high from Alcaraz.

As we have discussed Alcaraz mentality is not that of a kid anymore, he has focused, but sometimes there are mishaps and it's understandable.

You can't take anything from Draper, he fought good in the first set winning it, but I guess Alcaraz have to remind himself why he is the top seed and it could be just enough to motivate him and won the next two games and a close third set.

Later we will see Rune vs Alex De Minaur, and this is going to be a good match.

That should indeed be a good one, it's the first match of the day, I'm not betting on that
the odds are not that favourable even on handicap.

Some other interesting matches are:
Felix AA v Huesler - That will be a good test for Felix up against a player with the home
crowd behind him, I have Felix to win though.

Also Alcaraz v van de Zandschulp could be interesting, the Dutchman could trouble Alcaraz a bit.
2109  Economy / Economics / Re: 76% of Adults are Making Lifestyle Changes to Prepare for a Potential Recession on: October 25, 2022, 12:26:03 PM
While I can't be proud of my results. I have made efforts towards becoming more self sufficient since 2017. Its common for me to say its good for people to rely less on corporations and governments. Being reliant has been a big issue in recent times. As reliance on natural gas and other things has been revealed to be means of applying leverage to push agendas. Not wanting to be hypocritical there has been an effort made to follow through on things.

Over the last 5 years I tried to look at ways I'm reliant or dependent on outside people for things and tried to find alternatives. The basic themes are mundane things like: transportation, food, energy, water, home defense & security. Most of it is research based. Everyone would like to improve their circumstances. Most would not know where to start. Information and knowledge play big roles. Trial and error is also a factor.

I always looked at poverty outside of the US as america's future and thought all of the issues foreigners have abroad would someday find their way to american shores. That makes things easy.

While I am not proud I have been working towards countering the effects of an approaching
recession, I started about 6 months ago but it's really too late, I should have started way earlier.

I think a lot of people have been caught napping so to speak and of course there will be people
who will be able to absorb the effects of a recession and there will be many who won't.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been talking to business people who say there is a
"Big Squeeze" coming.

There are those who have to make lifestyle changes, it will be forced upon them.

Unfortunately MK4 there are stories going around of how others got to be millionaires from
altcoins, unfortunately the people being influenced don't realise that altcoins are a lottery.

There is also a degree of impatience, those people attracted to the lure of altcoins
cannot see the long term, it's not attractive.

I think the OP needs just to warn the brother and let him learn from his mistakes, it seems
like there is no turning him, unfortunately.

I only partly agree. It's a lottery for most people who don't know what they're doing, but there's definitely ways to know if a certain altcoin could perform good in the mid-long term. Though I'm not saying that it becomes not-so-risky of course; it's still highly risky, but it becomes a lot less of a lottery if you know what you're doing.

Yea I agree with that mk4

Rugby Union

Will you be following the up coming Autumn Internationals? I believe Argentina will be
playing both Wales and Scotland.

I dont know because im really busy following other sports, but yes always i check the results of the "pumas".
Fact: Did you know that the term pumas for the Argentine national team is actually incorrect?

Actually the animal on the shield is a Jaguarete, an animal very similar to a puma/tiger that is from the Mesopotamian area of Argentina.

That's why the superrugby team is called jaguars for jaguarete.

The mistake comes from the fact that many years ago the English saw the shield at first and automatically thought it was a cougar and this later expanded and stayed that way.

Wow, I didn't know that!
That is so stupid that the association with the wrong type of car has lingered. I will from
now on refer to them as the Jaguars!

There is also another world cup in progress ATM, The Women's Rugby union World Cup,
but I guess Women's Rugby is not a thing in Argentina

So for all the newbie small investors out there that have this same mindset as my brother, what would you as an OG, advice them to do?
Remember, they wanna become a millionaire, but they think since they can not afford to buy up to 0.5 bitcoin atleast, then bitcoin can not give them that millions they so desire.... What would be your advice?

I'd tell them to learn to understand markets in general so they can make their own educated decisions on what to invest in if they want to actually be a millionaire.

Also — investing, and especially with doing investing to become a millionaire, doesn't require one single lump sum investment especially if you can only afford 0.07 BTC. The trick is to slowly but surely add capital to assets you think would appreciate.

How are you doing here? Long time without passing here from me. Im very busy with other sports.

But i come here and read where its the rugby world now, and discovered a "rugby" that its not played so much in my country (Argentina), im refering to the Rugby League. i really didnt know about his existence, so i have to google it and find they play with 13 player and not 15 and a few minor change to the traditional one.

Here we play the conventional Rugby Union and the "seven".

And i google it because of...... Lebanon beating Ireland in rugby??? this cant be true.... and find what i said above.

Well you always learn new things.

Yes Rugby Union and Rugby League are similar games but of course there are different rules
and scoring.

There are IMO only a few countries where both codes are "equally" popular or maybe 1 a little
more than the other, England, Australia and New Zealand.

Here in Ireland the Rugby League World Cup doesn't register on sports news.

Tsitsipas tried better in the second set there was a chance for him, but Rune did not give the slightest chance for his opponent to make it down. Tsitsipas is a good player but unfortunately he often disappoints even at important moments.
Waiting for what he can do to overcome Djokovic

This is something I was saying a couple of days ago. Tsitsipas is a talented player but once again, he disappoints by not winning the tournament. Have not heard a lot about Rune before but seems to be another young talent and only 19 years old (same as Alcaraz).

Oh yes Rune is a quality player, from seeing him play throughout the year he is
super competitive and super psyched all the time.

In contrast Korda seems very relaxed to him, he needs to get fired up more especially,
when you are in a final
2116  Economy / Economics / Re: We are facing a new recession ten years after the previous one... on: October 24, 2022, 06:35:01 AM
Everyone I know is earning less now than before the last recession 2008/2009, I can vouch
for what the OP is saying on that point.

"Everyone I know" is not a valid argument in any conversation because it has a small-sample error. "Everyone you know" most likely is from the same country, most likely from the same region, most likely with symilar education level etc. Also "Everyone I know" is impossible to verify, impossible to challenge and impossible to discuss further.

The only thing I can say here is - Everyone I know is earning more now than before the last recession 2008/2009.

Also you did not mention if you are talking about lower salary or lower purchasing power of salary.

I agree somewhat, eventhough it's a small sample we are definitely not isolated. I have listened
to reports over the the years and recently which state that low to middle earners have not seen
the same salaries as prior to the last recession.

True, there are sectors which have had handsome wage increases but I would argue they are not
the majority. We are not called the "squeezed middle" for nothing. We are the majority so we feel
it the most.

I tried looking for some evidence of this and can only find the average wages over the last 12 years
in my country, bear in mind that almost 50% of the population live in or around the capital.

The chart shows that wages have increased by €1000 over 12 years "average"

2117  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 23, 2022, 10:11:19 PM
Felix AA had a massive service advantage over Gasquet which paid out for him when both
sets went to tie breaks. I was really impressed by Gasquet,  he is a very creative player and pulled
out some crazy shots.

Felix AA is favourite for another win here.
Gasquet is a class act on the pitch all the way, age and injuries have taken their toll in the last couple of years and I did not expect him to get back to these levels again. I guess he decided there is still time for another resurgence on the tour.

My prediction of Rune having higher winning probability won, and I didn't expect the final to be a win from him. Once again Tsitsipas failed to win the trophy. Rune have won in the direct sets and this makes it a bad performance from Tsitsipas. Atleast he could've managed to take the match towards the third set. Now, Tsitsipas is to play against Djokovic in Vienna Open. We already knew the result for the match.
Didn't watch any match in this tournament but knowing the players and their capabilities I am a bit surprised by result. Rune is a great player but he has a lot of problems with consistency and i feel like Tsitisipas should have been more than able to use that to his advantage.

Yes Gasquet's injuries have taken their toll, it would be nice to see him having a good spell
now, always entertaining to watch him.

As regards Tsitsipas v Rune, I was unsure which way to bet so I didn't in the end. It must
be unbelievably frustrating for Tsitsi to have reached so many finals and fall short and now
losing to Rune well done to him to get it done in 2 sets!

2119  Economy / Economics / Re: We are facing a new recession ten years after the previous one... on: October 23, 2022, 01:53:24 PM

2- "I cannot see any increase in salaries" - wrong

Everyone I know is earning less now than before the last recession 2008/2009, I can vouch
for what the OP is saying on that point.

The interest rates were kept too low for too long. So many companies over leveraged themselves with the cheap money and now the money is getting more expensive, naturally they will suffer from it. It is the FED’s fault keeping the rates too low for nearly a decade and now is the payback time. It is not going to be pretty for many people because most of them will lose their jobs and life savings.

Well it's interest rates which are being used to counter recession, this will hurt low to
middle income earners, same as the last recession, they were the group who paid the most.

And more talks about the recession continues, this could probably be the worst recession in recent time but there are chances that it may even get worse in 2023.
The global finance is in shambles and I think the Corona virus pandemic many not be the sole reason but to put it plainly the finance of the globe has yet recovered full from its causes.

I think the currency measures put to tackle inflation and recession are becoming outdated and not effective so if they can integrate new measures one that hasn't yet been tried it might lead us somewhere.

I agree, this all started with COVID-19 and the resulting money printing which followed,
then following was the war in Ukraine and the resulting increase in everything.

For sure we are in for tough times.
