My dog along with many others went missing on independence day in April last year, went to all the restaurants, never saw him again.  Still love the freedom this country affords expats although some things are seriously disturbing seen through a westerners lens. Not sure if true, but I've heard of a story of a family going to a restaurant somewhere in Asia. They had their dog with them, and asked the waiter to keep an eye on him while they were there. After they finished eating and were ready to leave, they asked for their dog back, only to realise that they had actually just eaten it! The waiter thought they brought the dog for them to cook! In the western world, humans tend to avoid eating carnivore animals. I can't think of a carnivore animal in any western cuisine. Pigs are omnivores, but are fed corn and soybean meals. Cats and dogs are carnivores, so they're out. I don't know if there is a scientific basis for this. |

I did see I had been removed from the list but then saw the rules of the 25 earned merit so I didn't speak up. I'm not upset (unless I guessed the right price then I'll be a little salty haha) I guess I'll just have to earn more merits for the next time  i added another 3 merits so you are now at 275. so that may put you there, but im unsure what you started with (250?) It's not essential to understand how Bitcoin works, in order to profit from it, that's true. But understanding how it works removes almost all reservations you may have in putting a good percentage of your wealth in Bitcoin. Take the Halving events for example. My initial purchase of 0.5 BTC for $120 back in 2015, that was immediately followed by several other purchases, was triggered by the 2016 Halving. I just knew I had to get into the 2016 train. It was common sense, understanding how it works, and the knowledge that production was soon going to be halved, that triggered the purchase of many of the coins I now have. Without that knowledge and understanding, I may have ended up delaying the purchase (and bitterly regretting it). Knowledge is power, and it's all out there for those willing to see. 4 years. Your choice! |

Writing from a tax paradise with regards to crypto coins it could be perceived as offensive and rude if I would say "just pay your taxes then", but it could save you some trouble and a lot of fees though I am not in your shoes and can't judge what taxes would eat away.
Well, if my coins are ever worth several million US dollars, I wouldn't mind paying my taxes and thus being able to spend the rest of my wealth without worrying about the tax man checking me out all the time. For example, assuming I end up holding the equivalent of $100m, I wouldn't mind at all paying even half of it ($50m) in taxes! If this means that I end up with $50m that I can freely and totally legally spend without worrying at all, I'm perfectly happy with that. BTW, the above is purely hypothetical, I forgot my passphrase, all coins gone, now only have what's left in my Kraken account (around 1000 Doge I think)... |

I remember as far back as 2010 trying to photocopy £20 notes at work & the printer coming up with big error messages.
Separately there was an instagram page as recent as a couple of years ago that was selling fake notes. They shut it down. They passed the pen test in shops, never tried to bank them though.
A geezer I knew worked in a scrap yard and they'd only pay him in forged £20 notes.
They were fucking awful and you could tell instantly yet he still managed to get rid of almost all of them. Every shop assistant he offloaded them on would twitch the moment they touched them but they stuck them in the till anyway.
Somebody gave me some when I sold a sofa on ebay years ago. Obviously I didn’t know, they looked legit.
Tried to bank them & the cashier knew, I ended up effectively giving this sofa away for free because they confiscated the notes.
Was a shit sofa any way.
I'm pretty sure that, with a modern colour laser copier and the right kind of paper, one could make usable banknotes to give to old, unsuspecting small shop owners, etc. Go photocopy a Bitcoin... You can't! One more reason fiat is doomed and Bitcoin is the way forward. |

Fun fact: So I run out of fiat cash with all the season's expenses and the BTC buying spree, and thought of using my brand-new Canon colour laser printer to photocopy some bank notes. Here's the result:  It seems that the printer has some pattern matching s/w inside it, to detect bank notes! So I scanned the A4 sheet of the copy, and tried to crop and resize it in Photoshop to prepare for posting (image above). Here's what I got:   WTF! Even Photoshop has protection! I tried Corel PHOTO-PAINT. Same thing:   ... So I launched good old Microsoft Paint, which did the trick! Never expected an M$ product to be so functional! I Googled it, and found this: EURion constellationI covered the pattern and it worked! Bank note copied! Now I can go buy some MOAR BTC. Yeah! Sorry for the OT, I just found it interesting. I guess consumer printers have become very capable lately, and companies are trying to prevent their use for illegal purposes. Edit: I wonder if this protection works on that Z$100,000,000,000,000 third Zimbabwean dollar... Edit 2: Took a photo of the same 50 € bank note, using my mobile phone. Photoshop still refuses to open it, displaying the exact same message. Corel PHOTO-PAINT opens it fine though... |

Knowing the period of a process allows one to arrive at a reasonably accurate prediction of future behaviour based on past behaviour. It's all there in the open, for those who want to see. You just have to open your eyes and use your brain.

That was very cool, but did he say his prototype was 8 qbits? It really looked like a simple procedure and the biggest stumbling blocks were just monetary. If so it looks like this shit is coming alot faster than we have been led to believe. That is if what he says is true, has this been independently verified? I'm not sure what a qbit is supposed to look like to begin with. I also found it weird that the 2 minute vid he played spoke of the 3 states (as if the non state was one state and not an analog we just cannot measure) but he is only alke to test for the "ON" state or the "Not ON" state so I am not sure how this is used as I thought the "OFF" state had to be known? I'm no expert but this is just a few questions that popped to mind. I don't want to sound dismissive, but my intuition tells me that this French guy is all talk and no action. He hasn't showed anything remotely resembling an operational QC, even with just a few qubits. To me he came across as arrogant, boasting "I'm the boss" all around the talk, and dismissing Google and the rest of the QC leaders for using super-cooling because "they are used to it and that's all they know". Not the qualities I'd expect from a true inventor, scientist, pioneer. I do hope he can do what he says, or, if not him, at least some others out there, for the benefit of all. But QC is no simple matter, and you can't just mill a quantum processor using a DIY CNC machine. |

Thanks. This article suggests a x10 increase as a minimum. Even better! Towards the end it mentions about the Litecoin Halving, which happened on August 2019, but hasn't pushed the price up (yet)... But Bitcoin's a different beast, I guess we'll just have to wait HoDL and see. If x7 or more happens to Bitcoin's price, I'll have reached my financial independence goal, as will many fellow WOs. I wonder what kind of hats we'll all be wearing then!  |

Problem is, I can't find a reference to where I read it...

NoScript/Ublock/HttpsEverywhere 3 first addons that are a must.
Ublock has a built in "no javascript" feature which works great. (kills most adblock blockers.) Used to have noscript and ghostery but uninstalled both. Ghostery doesn't let google to track/record your web activity but it does it itself instead and sell it too probably (back to google :p) which is not nice. I forgot to stipulate " Ublock Origin", there is a difference (only run the one from Raymond Hill). NoScript gives alot more control when I visit possible crypto backdoor type sites which is half of the ones from links on this board. Correct. That's the one I have. Very lightweight and does the job well. Can be disabled/re-enabled easily and on-the-fly. Just checked, and on BitcoinTalk there are zero requests blocked. Kudos to BitcoinTalk! |
