2362  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 22, 2023, 04:46:06 PM
That's what I am saying, it should be world wide and not just American if they want to improve the movie world. Why? Because if there is a movie that they believe was done better than any other american made movie, and they do not give them the reward just because they are not american, it wouldn't be fair.
But why would they do that, what would be the benefit for American film industry to "improve the film world"? Oscar is first and foremost American movie award, and one of the purposes is to award and protect American film industry. And later it developed into what we see now, with finally non-American movie winning a Best Picture award.

Don't get me wrong, I would like if foreign movies have the same chance of winning like American ones (good example of that Roma which is a vastly superior to Green Book, but latter won the award nevertheless) but I also understand why they are doing it that way. Less American movies winning award means less money poured into American movie industry equals less money for actors, directors etc and exactly those people vote for the awards (afaik 80% Academy members are Americans).
2363  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Plagiarized Whitepaper - MEMV MetaMallVerse on: January 22, 2023, 04:32:43 PM

FYI, I believe Royse saw this thread (Maybe not), and he suspended the round 2 Campaign.
He is aware of it, we talked via PM about the issue.

I hope that he does, and the reason why the campaign is suspended is due to this findings, as his message on his TG group indicated that he's trying to get to the bottom of the unexpected issue.
Since they showed no remorse or willingness to sort out the whitepaper (and other plagiarized content), I don't see how that campaign could be reopened.
2364  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Plagiarized Whitepaper - MEMV MetaMallVerse on: January 22, 2023, 01:45:05 PM
Is it allow to Run a bounty for project which already catch up stealing data from other project? Many compaign manager was tagged previously for only one reason that they run compaign for scam project and reason of scam was just plagiarism of Whitepaper . If it allow then remove tag from all old Bounty managers.
Tehnically it is allowed to run a bounty for a project that plagiarized whitepaper/had fake team members or any of the other major red flags because scams on bitcointalk are not moderated. Thing is, by doing that you are risking your reputation and getting tagged by other members.

I can't speak for other DT members, but unless Royse777 doesn't stop their bounty campaign, he can expect getting tagged by me but I do hope it won't come to that.
2365  Economy / Reputation / Re: Injustice while Tagging on: January 22, 2023, 01:35:23 PM
So am I right in my understanding that the main wrongdoing here is the plagiarized whitepaper?  That's certainly wrong to do and doesn't reflect well on the integrity of whoever's behind the project, but that doesn't say much about how legit MetaMallVerse is or to what extent Royse777's reputation ought to be sullied.
Beside some other red flags like having anonymous team while conducting ICO and generally looking like very little effort and thought has been put into this project, you are right, the reason why MetaMallVerse account got tagged and flagged is due plagiarized whitepaper. Combine those two things and its pretty obvious how this is going to end up.

I don't condone plagiarism by any means, but correct me if I'm wrong: it's a thing that's accepted in certain parts of the world, something that people wouldn't think twice about and certainly wouldn't believe it would cause problems (especially if those people were young and/or naive).  We've seen it happen so many times with ICOs that I can't imagine project owners would continue plagiarizing if they knew they'd be held to task for it.
Its been a month since they got caught having plagiarized whitepaper, and so far they haven't done absolutely anything to sort that out. They didn't rewrite those parts, or maybe even included reference links for copied part and everything stayed as it was month ago. To me that tells that they absolutely don't care as they are here for a quick scam. I can't imagine a legit project that is here for the long not doing absolutely everything that they can to clear their reputation.because if

Anyway, we'll see if Royse777 knew about the whitepaper.  If he's doing the campaign manager job properly, I don't see why OP is making a fuss because he hasn't been tagged.
The right thing to do here is to stop the bounty campaign immediately and I hope he will do that.

2366  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Plagiarized Whitepaper - MEMV MetaMallVerse on: January 22, 2023, 07:47:56 AM
FYI, there's been a bounty campaign going on from the day one (for more than a month) hosted by Royse777. Did anyone warned him about the existence of this scam accusation topic? Anyway, I just sent him a PM and lets see what he has to say about it.

Bounty campaign round 1
Bounty campaign round 2
2367  Economy / Reputation / Re: Injustice while Tagging on: January 22, 2023, 07:29:08 AM
First of all, I had no idea about this MetaMallVerse plagiarism case (you can check that I wasn't active in their scam accusation topic) and even less about Royse777 hosting their bounty campaign. Or you think we should all be aware about each and every scam accusation case?

I am surprised to see that no one in MetaMallVerse scam accusation topic mentioned their ongoing bounty campaign and warned Royse777 about this situation as it looks like a clear scammy shitcoin project with anonymous team and plagiarized whitepaper. Anyway, I will contact him and let him know about it and if he still continues with bounty campaign he will bare the consequences. Although I don't understand how he missed that project he is promoting for a month has been tagged and flagged.

Same kind of Whitepaper Plagiarized was happen with the Project UKAN Promoted by Mr Crank and was given 3 Negative feedback.
I guess you are an alt account of MrCrank? Since at first it looks like you were only the bounty manager there, stopped bounty campaign upon discovering plagiarism and didn't have previous tags for something else, I will look into it a little bit further and if everything checks out I might change negative to neutral.
2368  Other / Meta / Re: Some Newbie ~ Membar got nice rank through pumpkin contest on: January 21, 2023, 10:36:15 PM
However, there have been some reports that many of them have created their alt accounts.
Well, based on the list you provided I see only a few accounts that were created after pumpkin contest started.

And many users have earned merit from here and qualified themselves for signature campaigns.  But sadly those who got merit only from pumpkin contest.
If that's what they needed in order to get into signature campaigns then I don't expect them to be very successful staying in those or getting into new ones, or reaching higher ranks.
2369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 21, 2023, 09:03:18 AM
This is why I like Cannes a lot more, in the world of Cannes you get to see movies from all around the world, they are not works that are Oscar like, they are just artistic movies that gets very few and limited viewership, they are movies for intellectuals but at the very least they are fair towards the whole world and not just to France where it's held (I think?).

Oscars should be more like that, it's not about the best movie that comes out of Hollywood, but the best movie anywhere in the world, and that would make it harder to watch that much more movies, but it's definitely possible if you look at the most watched movies of at least 20-30 more nations.
You are mixing two very different things. First and foremost, Cannes is a movie festival (like Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Karlovy Vary etc) whose goal is not to give awards for best movies made in some specific year like Oscar is, or BAFTA, Golden Globes etc. Now that you mentioned France, their sort of equivalent of Oscar is Cesar Award but it only gives awards to French movies (+for best international one) so I think that Academy is doing by including bunch of foreign movies in their award is a good thing. After all, Oscars initially started as an award for American movies only, but later developed into what it is now.

I don't know if you guys noticed but a couple of days ago PlanB started his own YouTube channel. So far he only has few interviews made by other YouTubers but he said that he is currently working on his first video. Anyway, here is the link https://www.youtube.com/@PlanB_Bitcoin
2371  Other / Meta / Re: Some Newbie ~ Membar got nice rank through pumpkin contest on: January 21, 2023, 08:00:59 AM
So what exactly is the problem here if they ranked up through the contest? Sure, there might be some alt accounts there that saw an easy way to get merit (like in all activities where bunch of merits is shared) but in order to reach higher ranks they will have to write decent posts.
2372  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 20, 2023, 11:11:55 PM

Whoops. I am afraid voting for this year contest has already closed as 60 days from start of contest have passed, sir. Voting thread has been locked a few days ago by Gazeta.

Oh ffs...and I was even thinking why is he already counting votes if its not over yet. Procrastination is a serious sickness.
2373  Other / Meta / Re: Gambling discussion board needs a child board? on: January 20, 2023, 10:06:49 PM
Some people don't know how to gamble, so perhaps if there should be any child's board under gambling, it should possibly be "Beginners and Help for Gambling," so that newbie gamblers can easily ask questions and get help from that child's board.
There is a simple solution for that: if you have issues with something gambling related, simply create a topic about it and people will help. Gambling is not a rocket science that needs a whole child board just for that.
2374  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 20, 2023, 10:01:16 PM
- smallest number of votes a winner had: o_e_l_e_o was elected in 2020 as Bitcoin Geek with 21 votes, followed by Rikafip and Ratimov, 2020 winners of Spambuster and Discovery of the Year Category, both receiving 31 votes
Just a small correction, I won Scambuster award narrowly beating marlboroza by 4 votes, and not the Spambuster one.

That's all for now, let's return to votes counting
I just realized that I totally forgot to vote so gonna do that first thing tomorrow so thnx for reminder.  Wink
2375  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 20, 2023, 03:43:28 PM
@Rikafip. It appears that our surprise movie for this year's Oscar awards might be All Quite On the Western Front after receiving the highest number of nominations in BAFTA with 14. There are movie experts beginning to speculate that Edward Berger might be an unexpected winner for best director.
Hm I honestly haven't seen such rumours and I just checked I didn't notice odds changing dramatically in its favor. I initially thought that maybe Academy will want anti-war movie to win best picture award due ongoing war in Ukraine, but bookies think different.

I might watch the movie later, it is available in Netflix. I always see it being recommended, however, I always ignore it to watch Spy Family hehehehehe.
Like you I am also tempted every time I browse Netflix but so far I've been avoiding it mainly because I am a big fan of first version from 1930 and I doubt that it can surpass that one which is for me one of the best antiwar movies ever made, even though its been made more than 90 years ago. I will probably watch it before Oscars as I do plan to bet on that category and I can't do it unless I've seen at least couple of favorites. So far I've only seen Decision to Leave and Argentina, 1985 and I am leaning more towards the latter.

2377  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Genesis allegedlly prepares for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on: January 20, 2023, 10:03:05 AM
I still dont get it why you would trust em with all of ur coins. There were so many numerous examples that showed that it should be taken with a grain of salt.... especially platforms/exchanges that were very established -> see FTX.
For some its simply because of greed and they are willing risk it all for a couple of %, even though they are aware of the risk. Then there are those that don't want any responsibility when to comes to storing crypto and will rather chose someone else to do it for them. I mentioned before that I know a guy (friend of a friend) who is an old school stock trader so naturally he wanted to profit from bitcoin too but instead buying it by himself and storing it in his wallet he rather invested via Grayscale. I naturally asked him why he doesn't want to own his own Bitcoin, he said that he just doesn't want that responsibility.

If bitcointalk is the only place where you communicate with people that are into crypto you may get impression that's how it is in the rest of crypto community while in reality vast majority don't really care about being your own bank and the rest of the things that Bitcoin is all about, therefore such situations like the one with FTX.

The news article came after this.
And that matters how exactly?
2378  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: January 20, 2023, 08:28:44 AM
Told ya! Here comes the propaganda!  Cheesy Cheesy
Yep, as expected.

I (reluctantly) started replying to his post, but when I reached that part about no country in the world (let alone "severely underdeveloped Europe") can compare to Iran when it comes to "energy, infrastructure and development" I realized that there's no point and just deleted the unfinished post.
2379  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: January 19, 2023, 04:07:24 PM

P.S. Now the 800% gas bill rise that @Smack That Ace pointed out earlier doesn't seem that big since this case is 990% rise.
Except that you are mixing apples and oranges. You just shared electricity price increase for business in France while he shared nonsense about increase of gas price for households in Germany. But I guess guy from Pakistan knows situation in Germany better than those who visited it few weeks ago and have family there.

Situation could be better of course, but unfortunately there's midget in the east who never got over the fall of USSR so that's where we are at the moment.

As for our Iranian friend that is so concerned about gas in Europe, here is karma for you:
https://www.dw.com/en/iran-faces-gas-shortage-despite-vast-reserves/a-64395365
Oh damn. I honestly thought that situation in Iran regarding gas must be peachy considering their natural resources and how obsessed he is with prices of gas in Europe and our problems in general. I wonder how many schools in Germany were closed this winter for weeks in order to save the gas and electricity.

2380  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Genesis allegedlly prepares for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on: January 19, 2023, 11:12:17 AM
These are really strange laws!! Companies file bankruptcy to protect themselves!!! Well who protects users then?
Users should protect themselves by not giving custody of their own coins and stop treating centralized crypto platforms as banks because they simply aren't.

Maybe this might wake up some of the people who bleat on about Coinbase or Binance being safe because they are large exchanges. Well, DCG is huge, and currently two of its subsidiaries are on the brink of collapse.
Certain percentage probably removed their money after everything that has happened in the recent period, but majority will just continue business as usual. I know people who lost money on both Celsius and FTX and they still are still staking significant amount of money on Binance, being absolutely sure that Binance is safe and nothing will happen. When I asked them can they be really sure that same thing won't happen with Binance, they told me that even if something happens to Binance, prices will go down so much that it won't matter anyway.  Roll Eyes And those people are not newbies at all.
