I'm still awake, so it's four in one "day" for me!

'Mericans... We're so stubborn.

Pretty much same timezones lol. Just being a conforming Canadian. I do prefer to look at it as 4  Wink

Love me them block bot notifications.

Just got another one a very green week for sure. I guess this is the first one of block Thursday. Let's replicate Wednesday.

Have you added a pool in the configuration?

Could you post a link to an image of the status page?
2844  Other / Meta / Re: Be Honest; What would you do If you are a high rank member and In this situatio? on: September 19, 2018, 09:18:41 PM
Who's your husband. That account deserves a merit somewhere I'm sure.

I feel so sad about it and have refused talking to him now,

I thought you were trying to punish him Huh

I respect your husband's decision and would do the same to my wife, mind you shed probably get banned for trolling or something anyways.

If you truly want to be a junior member just go out there and post, be helpful or contribute in some way. If you can't earn a merit that way you don't deserve the rank.

2845  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 19, 2018, 09:09:53 PM
The pay to post is an interesting way of looking at it.

I see it as more of an earn to maintain. In a way it removes the "tenure" aspect of ranking up in the forum. It would be most notable to the 1 merit junior members, who when it was all of a sudden needed got a suspect merit awarded. In the long run though given poor enough quality it could affect any user who ranked up but does not currently create meritable posts.

From this I would not want to see negative in the merit field. People would be able to continue posting as normal after the 200 posts.

I feel this would be a good overall way of keeping forum ranks/status more fluid and current. Especially if it were applied in a way that it encompassed everyone including people who were ranked up prior to the merit system.

Edit: Just want to make sure it's known that I began thinking this system up after reading LoyceV's post
2846  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Whale Effect on: September 19, 2018, 07:28:23 PM
Can you move this to beginners and help. That's probably the best place for this.

Meta is for forum related posts.
2847  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1700W on: September 19, 2018, 03:20:44 PM
Don't think it will be a problem if you ship through europe or buy from us eg., this should avoid trump taxes I guess.

China pricing is around 950 USD. (not official)

I wouldn't count on that. When it gets shipped the Country where it was manufactured will matter more than where it is shipped from.

Nice to see some hard specs and release dates for their new line. I am more interested in seeing what the 941will do, and if it launches as soon as the 841 did after the 821
2848  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies can't make posts? on: September 19, 2018, 12:56:06 PM
Are you sure they are using the correct site.

If they are on a phishing site that might be the error that comes up when they try and post.

Other than that I don't know why they are seeing that error.
2849  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 18, 2018, 11:13:28 PM
It's not snobbery. The restrictions have nothing to do with newbies who come here to learn, contribute or be a part of the community.

The restrictions were put in place to combat the spam problem that had overrun most decent conversations on the forum.

That is why people are happy to see this in place.
2850  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 18, 2018, 10:24:06 PM
So they'll just cheat the post count by deleting posts.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my explanation.

I see what your saying. Perhaps the happy medium would actually come from a post count as opposed to activity or time. Say 200 or 250 posts; the kicker would be that it is a continuous total not affected by deleted posts.
This way spammers can't cheat the activity threshold by deleting posts, and it won't disproportionately affect casual or inactive users.

When I said this, I meant it as a programming fix. The forum would tabulate all posts that you create in that time frame including posts that are deleted. So in this system, it wouldn't matter if the spammers deleted their posts, as it would have still been added to the tally.

While an account may only show 190 posts in an effort to remain below the (currently imaginary) threshold for Merit reduction, their actual tally may be 201, thus triggering the removal of 1 merit. In this example they tried to delete 11 posts. With a large number like 200 or 250 posts, I feel it would give a wide enough berth for any worthwhile member of the forum to earn 1 merit...

Bitcointalk Airlines frequent flier program:

*snip*

Did I capture the spirit of the system correctly? Grin

Love it, does it come with a fancy card?

You should ad in the safety spiel pointing the spammers to their nearest exit.
2851  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Innosilicon T2Turbo review 24th model on: September 18, 2018, 10:15:33 PM
Thanks for updating. It will be interesting to see what it gets for a 24 hour test to see where it averages out; so far at stock it's looking a few TH low. They may have based the advertising on highest hash acheviable, mind you it's hard to draw conclusions from the 1 machine. I forget where you able to find a power meter to monitor it's consumption on the less efficient settings?

I am working on getting the 32th model  but with the new fuck you china tax from mr trump it may be out of reach for me.

I am not sure if I now owe any in back taxes on imports so I will be waiting to order for just a bit.

Yeah glad I'm not facing that, for most people that puts most miners well out of reach. I can only speculate but it sounds like anything prior is exempt, but maybe some of your more recent acquisitions will fall into the back taxes category.

Hey there,

What are your ambient temperatures. One of the errors, the 144 is a combination of the 16, and the 128. The 128 is a warning regarding a "too hot" situation on the control board, but I think it relates to the specific hashboard, not sure.

I'm guessing this is a 741? Has it been cleaned out recently? Did you make any changes?
2853  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 18, 2018, 06:47:52 PM
I think losing 1 Merit every 3 or 6 months would be enough to derank most spammers, and that was my initial idea. However, this would be bad for high quality posters who don't post often, or even inactive accounts. By tying it to activity, none of these are affected.

I see what your saying. Perhaps the happy medium would actually come from a post count as opposed to activity or time. Say 200 or 250 posts; the kicker would be that it is a continuous total not affected by deleted posts.

2854  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system and rank on: September 18, 2018, 12:24:56 AM
You're not getting merit for this shitposting!  Roll Eyes

I do not consider that shitposting. OP chooses to take part in bounties that from their full post history do not appear to encourage spamming the forum. Are all of the posts outside the bounties stellar, no, but they are not spammy and have a point. The user maintains a good post gap and IMO is not a spamming shitposter.

Here is one issue that the new users run into.

I tried an honest attempt to help the board and make a constructive post just as the community is requesting.  Then out of nowhere I get another member post a false report of my history.

I agree, and before I read the post I had reviewed your post history because of the OP. I would have merited the OP but IMO it should have just been a post in the merit and new rank thread. Not a cardinal sin or anything, and considering you seem to be a casual user it can be seen as an oversight.

Quote
I'm not sure where to go from here.  Is it legit to do bounties or does that make me a shit poster?  I honestly do not understand at this point.

Honestly just do "you". While I would like to see Bounties managed completely differently, and not have signatures for anyone below a member rank, you don't seem to be part of the problem. Noiw if you start dropping a bunch of "nice projects" or "great vision" posts all over to boost your count, that would be considered shitposting.

As for the OP, I'm okay with where the merit requirements sit for ranking up to higher levels. Who cares how long it takes it's not a race. I agree with the 5 merit requirement for JR. Member.
2855  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 18, 2018, 12:00:52 AM
Sad, this is my last week signature campaign, then after my rank change to newbie, i can't join their project again  Embarrassed this waste my  time, maybe next time i can join any bounty with newbie rank

Or here's a thought, you could just be better. I get it that's a long shot.

You are exactly what is wrong with the forum, and a great sign that the steps Theymos is implementing do have a positive effect.

If you feel your time has been wasted, you now know how anyone who took the time to read your posts felt.
2856  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Innosilicon T2Turbo review 24th model on: September 17, 2018, 11:57:12 PM
Nice job of grouping the information together.

I might have missed it on my read through, did the T2T ever hit the specs of 24TH ?? I know your meter couldn't handle the electrical load, but it would be interesting to see if the machine gets there.

The T2T+ looks deadly as far as efficiency, depending on what hardware actually makes it to market it won't be top of the efficiency list but still respectable?

Although for confirmed deliverers of at least 1 model of hardware I think this is the top based on the advertised specs for now right?

Nice video.
2857  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 17, 2018, 11:38:04 PM
^^

I like your glass half full attitude.  Wink

Although I would still prefer to see them leave or improve, cutting off or restricting the ease access to their "jobs" is probably the only way to do it.
2858  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: September 17, 2018, 11:33:06 PM
Just want to make sure I understand this stat.

Are these people who sent the most merit to users who eventually were banned(autobanned)?

Edit: If so I'm assuming that it is a cumulative total across 1 or more members

Thanks for the reply Cyrus.
2859  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 17, 2018, 09:32:37 PM
Ten is a much different ball game and becomes exponentially more difficult the more accounts you have.
I posted a different idea today, and already modified it a bit. In short:
Every time an account goes up 100 in Activity, remove 1 Merit. That means any normal person has to earn 1 Merit every 3 months to keep his rank, old inactive accounts aren't affected, and any spammer who got a Merit without deserving it, will lose it again unless he starts deleting many of his old posts.

I checked out the idea, and am all for it. I wouldn't tie it to activity as you have already pointed out the work around, they would just delete posts. There would be no repercussions to them in doing so as they aren't ranking up without merit. I would say every 45 days. With all the new sources of merit that has been added, a worthwhile poster should be able to earn 1 merit in 45 days, I feel that is a generous timeline.

It's kind of an overkill TBH Loyce. What we need to do now is have strict rules for running the bounty campaigns. Make it official that bounty managers should only accept people who have earned at least X amount of merit. Failure to do so will result in a ban. Something like this should be a good start point. We will see immediate results if something like this gets implemented.

That would be nice, but Theymos is not a fan of heavy handed rules being implemented. Unfortunately the community doesn't have a tool to use though to enforce a majority consensus on how we would like to see bounties handled in the forum. I used to not concern myself with bounties as I assumed there actions were all off forum, then I realized how many of them require a signature and to post on the forum. I tried to thin kof a way that DT could be used to reign in the bounty managers but trust doesn't really affect them.
2860  Other / Meta / Re: I have an idea to an even better merit change on: September 17, 2018, 09:05:08 PM
You are not wrong, that there are shitposters of all rank. They are easy to see because they post the same garbage you find in the newbie accounts.

The problem with using this de-ranking system for members of higher ranks is that they may have become lurkers, or not be as active as they once were. There a lot of older members who have been here years and don't frequent areas where merit was heavily handed out, or use say only the marketplace. So to implement this system in that way would need to be done on a case by case basis, and that would require more effort than it is worth.

This way the forum can at least deter to some extent the account farming for spam bots or bounty signatures. This is mostly done with low ranking fresh accounts.
