Your rank may not allow it.

You should be able to post them to a site like imgur, and just drop links here. If you do post the images and they do not show up another member can quote them so the image shows up.

Check here in the help section for how to post an image.

2882  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are the bitcoin faucets no longer worth it? on: September 13, 2018, 02:52:13 AM
No I don't think they are worth it, they're referred to as micro-earnings for a reason. I guess if you honestly have nothing else to do it's something but doesn't seem worth the effort.

I wasn't around when faucets were big. IIRC they were meant to be a way to help push adoption and bring people to bitcoin in a risk free way. It was a beginners tool, you earned free BTC and could then practice sending transactions, creating wallets. Any that still exist now I would expect to be sending out very small amounts for the same purpose as the originals, remember it's essentially a charity for knowledge.

The few I have seen now though I think are usually geared as a promotion for a website, or casino. So they come with their own agendas.
2883  Other / Meta / Re: Is this can be reported as Plagiarism on: September 13, 2018, 02:20:29 AM
I would report it and let the Mods decide. I think it's just another way for these copy/pasters to try and see how close they can go to the line before getting banned. I assume they are just trying to make the article appear as if they wrote it, but that they used the reference for source materials.

Personally I'd include members who do this with a proper source. It's just another way to boost their post count; and they are to lazy to try and write a post with a link to the site or provide anything of value.

The right way to do it is to provide a link to the exact page the quote comes from.  This should be obvious, but who knows what level of education this knucklehead has, not to mention where his moral compass points.

I'm going to assume if the guy can copy past an article, they should be able to copy the address bar. Like I said above it's like a toddler testing to see how far they can go before a "timeout". These "earners" are just seeing how close they can get to the illusion of well written creative posts, without doing any work and avoiding punishment.

Phillip, can you please provide a link where Canaan says about their 2 year warranty? All i can find is 90 days. Thanks!

https://blokforge.com/product/avalon-841/

If you read the product description on the blokforge page it states the 2 year warranty. They do a great job as a distributor. Sometimes the info on the official Canaan page is carried over from previous pages and they forget to update some details.

Edit: You can also find the Blokforge thread here on the forum

Here is a very similar thread currently running.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5015731.0

It is different in the way that it would be others providing the posts they think are deserving, but I seem to recall something similar being created. Not sure what happened to it.

2886  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My Plan on: September 09, 2018, 09:09:06 PM
It is off the beaten path, but has internet service available. As far as security goes, I have a trusted relative living in a home on the property who is going to assist with maintaining the generator as that fits his background.  I plan to do all the diagnostics via accessing a remote desktop setup in the mining room.

The gas is entirely free, the well has been dug for decades and mineral rights are owned by me.

Nice sounds like a good way to use what you already have access to. Good luck with the project, hopefully you can find a decently priced generator.
2887  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My Plan on: September 09, 2018, 07:44:37 PM
I also found these by CAT, they might have something that suites your needs as well.

https://www.cat.com/en_US/products/new/power-systems/electric-power-generation/gas-generator-sets.html

Another bonus to the Avalons over other manufacturers at the moment is they don't always require you send your machine to them for repair. There are repair facilities available, but the design of their machines make it easy to diagnose and replace parts yourself. Here is an example of diagnosing and repairs.
2888  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My Plan on: September 09, 2018, 07:18:48 PM
First, you should move this to mining speculation as your requesting opinions. You can move the topic using the button by scrolling down to the bottom left.

I'm wondering what you mean about a source of free unlimited Natural Gas, to power the generator. Someone must be paying for it, but that's for you to handle. Just make sure that if there is a chance you will be footing the bill on this that you are prepared.

As far as machines go, you should still consider going with a more efficient model. This will allow you to put more machines online, thus increasing your mined BTC. I like the 841's - they are efficient, reliable, and are backed by a 2 year warranty. Being from the US, you can order from Blokforge.

The property 8 hours away - Is it secure and out of the way? Can you get a reliable internet source there?
2889  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to dilute the account if I agree with the reason for the ban? on: September 09, 2018, 05:32:11 PM
No the length or permanency of the ban cannot be bought off.

If you agree with the Ban, then you will also hopefully adhere to it's terms. Which will mean that for the length of the Ban you, not the account, are prohibited from posting on the forum. You can lurk and read but that is it. With the exception of this thread, which is really only supposed to be used for an appeal.

^^

Why is your motivation tied to receiving Merits for your posts? If you come here to learn or have discussions shouldn't that be motivation enough?

That statement sounds like someone who hates their "Job" because they are not advancing  Roll Eyes

Edit: After checking out your thread, no wonder it received no merit. You have helped in providing a glaring comparison in thread quality.
2891  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: First time/Small miner reference for getting started. on: September 09, 2018, 01:30:06 PM
I added Pangolin and Innosilicon to the list for Hardware because they have actually put a product in customers hands.

Let me know if I'm missing any others. I don't want to add anyone to the list until they have delivered a product to customers, not just review units.
2892  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does it matter if politicians have affairs? on: September 08, 2018, 11:55:50 PM
I think it matters a great deal. People are defined by their actions, and an affair tells me this person is spineless, weak and willing to do as they see fit with the hopes they not get caught. They would carry this same attitude in being a government official IMO.

I personally don't care if you want to go bang the secretary, or whomever gets things flowing for you. Then turn to your spouse and say just that, the rest is for them to sort out. If you can't do this before going off and having an affair, you don't deserve to be a representative. People like to brush these scandals under the rug and point out that it doesn't matter, but I see it as a telling factor of ones being.

I would be far more impressed by a politician who ended their marriage; or came to some sort of agreement and was honest about it. I know honesty and politician don't go hand in hand, but one can hope for better.
2893  Economy / Reputation / Re: owlcatz racist, spamer and liar on: September 08, 2018, 08:42:00 PM
Because racism is not only the color of the skin or religion,

Quote from: google dictionary
rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/Submit
noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
"a program to combat racism"
synonyms:   racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
noun: racism
"theories of racism"

What you mean instead is discriminatory. Not my opinion but definitely makes more sense than racism.

This is a public forum and people can say and do as they please which includes telling you their opinion of you. Not everyone has to help people or hold their hands as they learn.

To some degree I understand where you are coming from, but ignorance is no excuse IMO. This whole situation appears to have been a clusterf**k, and I don't think your scrambling helped anything.  So now that you realize the mistakes you made along the way I would suggest just moving on.  For what it's worth your trust score shows as neutral to me, so there is no immediate repercussions and you will just have to have a conversation with anyone who questions it in the future.
2894  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Troubleshooting and repair guide for AvalonMiner models 721, 741, 761, 821 & 841 on: September 08, 2018, 06:27:17 PM
You will only see 1 pool active at a time, as you can't send work to more than one place at a time. The other 2 are just there in case the first one fails for whatever reason.

I'm not sure what you mean about the 1 module active, can you post a screen cap? If on the miner status page you are seeing a hashrate of around 7.3 everything should be fine.

Wait you are probably in the basic main status page, if so and you see 1 module, I'm pretty sure that means 1 miner. Click on the advanced button for a better overview of what is going on with you machines. This is step 2 in the OP for this thread.

From here you can check the status page, and the API log. These 2 pages will let you know if there are any problems. You can also post screenshots and someone can look them over with you.
2895  Other / Meta / Re: Question about thread reporting. on: September 07, 2018, 11:01:56 PM
How can you report a thread? I ask because I only know the normal "report to moderator" feature, but in this case it's the individual post that gets reported - you punish the OP for something he isn't the culprit.
I just use the report to moderator button. Based on this response I use the OP.

The op.

I can't remember what I used to do if it was the last post or the OP. Seeing as there are no negative consequences to having a thread locked for the OP, there is no punishment involved. The topics I'm reporting for the most part have long been abandoned by anyone interested in real discussion, including the OP. If someone were to remain active and report all shitposters within their own thread then that would be a different story, you might actually be able to keep a topic going for 20+ pages.

I have been thinking about the mega -thread issue quite a bit lately. In my mind one source of constant redundant shit topics, is BTC price, and whatever the movement of the day was. I think creating 1 or 2 megathreads, that do not allow signatures/advertising could be a nice solution to this problem. This way any topic created that falls under their umbrella could be trashed without a second thought. This would aslo not engourage shitposting just because they are going to be megathreads.

To avoid contamination, we just have to continue to push the report button, and hopefully make it no longer worth their while to spam the entire forum.
2896  Other / Meta / Re: Question about thread reporting. on: September 07, 2018, 10:23:41 PM
I have a question, what should a reporter do,if the thread topic is a decent one, but spammers ruined it. Should the OP be reported or the spammers, especially if it is a megathread?

I would say it depends on the thread, and what should happen in your opinion.

I reported 3 or 4 threads today, based on the fact that they had run up to 20 pages. Most of them had a decent discussion early on, or had their questions answered and analysed by page 3. The rest became more of a post answering the title, or just the same speculation rehashed a thousand different ways. So I asked these to be locked, not sure if the Mods will agree I'll see. In this case I reported the OP, but made sure the reason was a reflection of the topics status.

If however it is just people spamming in between a good conversation/discussion, then I would report the spammers individually.
2897  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 10:09:55 PM
^^
You're right about that Welsh. That was an oversight, if that feature were implemented, I would think the first report would be marked as good , and the other 2 may remain as unhandled. This would eliminate false positives for a "good" report.

In the end people shouldn't acre to much about the difference between a good/unhandled report. Apart from the potential badges that may come, reporting should always be seen as a service to the community.
2898  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 09:55:53 PM
I would suggest to continue to report posts after the above mentioned 'big lock' in the locked topics too, because this is the only way how we can make spammers lose activity and post count, which means they lose money and hopefully they will stop (except if they are a bots...)

Not a bad idea, should something like "The Big Lock" happen. Although with the Merit system in place the loss of posts counting towards activity would have a minimal effect. With posts that are more than a week old, unfortunately they will have already been paid. The benefit of something like that is anyone who went back to read those topics might have a nice clean read, they would probably also go from 20 pages to 2.

I obviously agree with Welsh's point that we need more people reporting spammers, but I don't think we should need to report entire topics. *Snip*

There should be a dedicated mod or two that can monitor these threads and lock them when they've run their course.

I agree that we shouldn't need to, but the writing is literally on the wall....well board. There are tons of topics and threads that just continue to grow in length while at the same time declining in quality.

What I recently learned about the report log is that it's not only the local board Mod who can act on some reports. So if say in this instance hilariousandco is unable to keep up with this board and the numerous others they are moderator for. My now reported topics can be locked by whoever gets to it first.

I like the idea of a couple dedicated Mods for this.
2899  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 08:04:46 PM
^^

I can't say for sure but as long as the report was filed with enough information, worst case scenario it would go down as unhandled if it were a duplicate. I'm sure someone can shed some light on that. I do agree this feature would be nice as it would trim the log that Mods need to look through.

This did make me wonder though if say a post or thread had been reported 3 times and when the first one is handled do the other 2 reports stay in the log? Seeing as the posts are linked, I would think this could be a small tweak that might reduce the reports Mods need to look through.

As for regaining "Bitcoin Discussion", If Theymos does ad a new Mod, there should a fresh start. All current topics could be locked, and then we begin fresh. Anyone who thinks their thread has legitimate value or conversation taking place,  could request it be reopened. Then at least moving forward you are not starting with a daunting cesspool to clean up, you have a clean slate to maintain.

Personally there I have shifted from reporting single posts, and am more reporting topics for "lock". Unless I come across a post while the topic is still having a legitimate conversation that is.
2900  Other / Meta / Re: User nominated names of possible moderators for forum. on: September 07, 2018, 07:51:05 PM

- The Pharmacist

I do appreciate the thought, but as I've said before I don't want to be a mod here.  I value the intactness of my hair.

No means no people, come on it's 2018

Have a look at [Unofficial] New Global Moderator Election - [Voting]. Short summary: voting doesn't matter.

Before I forget: thanks for the nominations! The day I have my own nuke button will be the day I find out how many spamming Newbies I can nuke per day Cheesy

   *Not mine

If/when new Mods are selected I think it has more to do with what board is going to be their responsibility. Bitcoin Discussion for example doesn't need to be someone "technically skilled", or even posses a great understanding of how Bitcoin works behind the scenes. They will just need time to actually review the threads/ posts and take the time to "weed the garden".

I'd rather not see nominations, more of an application. Regardless as Loyce pointed out these polls/voting topics don't matter beyond giving us something to talk about.
