Hey iGotSpots,
I would like to know one thing on which I am still confused on staking thing, it's that if the network weight increases too high the way it is getting, I mean the increase in difficulty to stake, will it still give ~25-30% stake rewards per day? I am very much confused on this, so please explain this to me in a very meaningful manner, even if it would be a para to a letter-sized answer....

A high network weight is very good for the coin as it increases the security. As long as you keep staking and stake optimally you are fine irrespective of the network weight.

Repeat of an earlier post:

The difficulty adjustment is there to make sure that the POS rewards stay within the designed parameters. The designed rewards will be allocated based on certain things like the number of eligible coins, coinage and how optimal you stake (the last one is tricky). In the perfect theoretical world you will get your stake as advertised. However it is possible to do silly things with your coins to reduce your reward like keep moving your coins around, letting maxage expire, not making sure that as many as possible of your coins are eligible for staking, leaving your coins on an exchange and locking your wallet for staking - in some of these examples you get nothing. The more people stake, the higher the difficulty gets to make sure each wallet gets its rewards as per the design. The more people stake the safer the network gets as well - the network weight for 10K is exceptionally good.

I've opened sign ups for 10k. Will start staking by March 1st

interesting concept. I'm also interested in your  pos hardware how much are the devices? can someone put what ever wallet they want on them?  is it only 1 wallet per device?

The ones we've already shipped out stake both MMXIV and BALLS. The new ones will have enough power to add 10k to that list, as well

How does the staking hardware work? What would you say is better between cloud staking and hardware staking? Also, does the staking hardware optimize the movement of coins on your behalf or does that have to be done manually still?
2923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 09, 2015, 05:58:53 PM
Why couldn't we have just stuck with HoboNickels and 2% every 10 days? Cry

Then the speculators and bots take over and destroy the coin. Only a few coins in cryptoland made it through to the beach-head so far after their landing and the rest got mowed down on the beach.

Thanks a lot for again clarifying my doubts, I thought that the rewards may get lowered based on the network weight being increased and difficulty becoming higher, but now I got it. I thought that 10000% of coins will be given by this difficulty increase so that we will get our rewards lowered daily, but now, it's completely clear to me... Smiley

So, what about the increasing difficulty in the staking and lesser rewards that we are seeing now? Does the difficulty not matter at all in this case, rather than just the demand thing?

Anything that reduces the stake will diminish the attractiveness of holding the coin instead of selling it. I think the whole idea behind the demand creation is that people want to get the future income stream and therefore are buying the coin. One way to value something is to discount the future income stream to today. This seems fine as long as there are buyers and if there is a big enough community then it should not be an issue in the (crypto time) short to medium term. Public acceptance will ensure long term success.
2926  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 09, 2015, 04:43:33 PM
Think realistically, 10K concept rewrites crypto history by turning the user hardware into profit staking(minting) machine.. completing a task(job) you as independant contractor using your own sweat equity, electricity  & computer to get paid your interest - figuritively & literally speaking..

Whats your take on it?

As long as value is created for the holder by one or more of these: 1) value of use e.g. you can buy something with it and buyers can buy something with it, 2) asset value e.g. you can trade it in for something of value or 3) something new not yet thought of e.g. something creative like the idea of 10K was.
2927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 09, 2015, 01:44:19 PM
@Everyone out here...
Can anyone explain me what are the reasons of the dumps we are seeing on this coin? Does it mean that when everyday, the coin supply and the amount of total coins increases, everyone will decrease the value of the coin? Is it the same that I am getting?

In theory it is a plausible argument that the higher the coin supply the lower the price gets. Coin supply is one factor.

However, the big reason for price is supply and demand. The higher the supply the lower the price and the higher the demand the higher the price. You can have a coin with a very low coin supply but if everyone suddenly want to sell and there are more sellers than buyers the price will go down. You can also have coins with a very high coin supply but if everyone wants the coin, then there will be more buyers than sellers and the price will go up.

In the case of 10K you have to consider the relevant aspects that affect the price. The coin supply is not that high to play a big part yet, however there are those that already discount the future some months down the line where compounding interest could create a much higher coin supply than what we see now. The high interest has caused an increase in demand now to have a base that can create interest or "dividends" for the holder, similar to the shares of a company in real life. The interest will be sold off by those that need the money and others that have a longer term view will keep the interest and add it to their base to generate compound interest. There will be an increase in sell pressure over time as the pool of crypto enthusiasts that buy 10K for staking become satisfied with their staking base. Speculators will also stay around as long as there are buyers for the stake before they will then also sell their base. The price will remain relatively steady as long as there are buyers that are building their staking base that will buy the sellers stake and as long as this arrangement remains profitable for all involved.

There is a finite pool of crypto enthusiasts that are in the crypto "game" and depending on the holder mix the pool will inevitably become saturated at some point. It is the job of the dev to find creative ways to expand the pool of buyers to wider than the crypto community to spread the stake over more users before these conditions come into effect. Alternatively find creative ways for the existing holders to use the coin because valuable use cases will most definitely drive demand up. The most important is that the dev create value for the coin holders through 1) valuable use cases or 2) some other real life value like asset backing. One cliche way to do this is to roll the coin out for retail use for which it is perfect due to the fast confirmations but there are also other ways some coins have tried like asset backing but then there are also other ways no-one has thought of yet.

In short, as long as holders hold based on their reasons and buyers buy the stake based on their reasons the price will be fine.

Is the wallet staking or not? It is showing network weight 0 and time to reward 0 seconds?

Is this right?

It seems that POS and POW are not running together. This means that the full complement of planned POW coins (43,200,000) will be issued and that POS will probably kick in after the last POW block as of 43201.

It will, dude, patience... Just hold back and see... Wink We will be to 0.01 soon, and mind well everyone, I ain't saying this emotionally...

He is referring to money supply and not price. He thought that by now there would be more than 500k coins in circulation.

Oops... Sorry, my mistake, I misunderstood... I thought he must be speaking about price being low...
Can you answer please?? I'd 960 coins and doing stake ,but now is showing 200 less   760 coins  .Where are those 200 coins ?.Is this normal for stake ?? Thank you

Everytime you hit a stake (verify a block of transactions) also called solve a block, your balance of coins will reduce and move to a different line. For a while it might also disappear until the required number of confirmations have occurred. You can watch the progress in the transactions tab at the top of your wallet. Once the required confirmations have happened, the coins become available again in your wallet and the coins that staked are reset and have to mature for an hour again before they can become eligible for staking again.

thats awesome stake weight Cheesy

and money supply is growing a lot slower than I thought it would I thought we'd be closer to 500k by now Smiley

I managed to accomplish step #6  file is created, called it 10k.txt , then renamed it 10k.conf.  what I cant figure out is how to do is post the addnode lines into the file. can someone describe how to do that please.  thank you in advance!

Just double click the file and it will open up in Notepad. Alternatively open Notepad and the open the 10k.conf file in it. Copy past the content and save again.

yup. Had 2100 coins and cashed out just above 80k sat. A nice profit. Thank you Dev and all supporters.

Vegas

So it was you that put that 2133 2BTC sell wall up that pushed the price down?
2933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 08, 2015, 06:03:51 PM
I have a question for the clever people around here:

If you transfer coins out of the wallet, is it FIFO or LIFO? (First-in-first-out or Last-in-first-out). Let me give an example. If you send 100 coins to your wallet and then send 100 coins out, was the 100 that you just transferred in that went out or were the coins the oldest coins in the wallet that went out?
2934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 08, 2015, 05:03:36 PM
100k sat could last until well over the 1m coin supply mark. Other coins like Uro and Monero have supply into the millions and are sitting around 100k sats atm  Grin

And those you mention do not generate income for you on this scale.

In real world, one way to value shares is to discount the future dividend income stream. The same can be done with a coin because the relationship of stake to coin can be seen similar to the relationship of dividends to shares. In the case of 10K the income stream "dividend" is high meaning that if you discount future income the price should be much higher than the coins you compared above.

Points 18, 19 and 21 refers.

Your wallet can be encrypted but you have to unlock it for staking by doing the walletpassphrase command as per the instructions. You can also unlock it at the top of the wallet under settings.
2936  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Experiment 10k | Stress Test Blockchain on: February 08, 2015, 02:33:18 PM
There is no point in dumping your 10k.

You get an avg 25% stake. Let's say you hold 1000 10k.

Stake should give you 1000 10k in just 4 days. Every single day you stake them after those 4 days is free money.

If you just dump your initial 1000 10k's, you get the same reward, but nothing more.

I prefer a steady daily reward instead of dumping my coins and having a one time reward.

Bitspender, with your 10K I think you must change your nick from Bitspender to Bitreceiver.

I am astonished by the buy/sell ratio. I cannot remember seeing anything like it before. It seems everyone wants this coin. Imagine the explosion if it is rolled out for commerce. Retail commerce will love the 30sec to race through 6 confirmations.

A Coin which logo is made in Microsoft Word... please.

A coin that everyone wants can have its logo scribbled with a pencil on a piece of paper.

Hi, new guy here.
I have a bittrex account  with 1250 10K coins .... I would like to move a thousand of them to where ever it is that they need to go to begin getting the PoS .  I've read the initial post, over and over, sorry , but I'm not understanding or seeing the link to set up a wallet. can somebody help me with that link please. this is the first time I will be setting up a wallet also, any chance of a step by step dummy proof explanation for that would be greatly appreciated.

I Got Spots ... Thanks for setting this up, I haven't been this excited about crypto's since I blew $800 x 6 buying my first bitcoins.
The thoughts of recouping a fraction of my losses had me sleepless last night!

I assume you have Windows 7 or 8.

1. Download wallet at this link as per the OP https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9KhUdXDh1RqRUQzeGRjVE9wU1k
2. Bypass all warnings from your anti-virus and force the file to be downloaded and extracted. If Google Chrome moans use Windows Explorer
3. Extract the file in your download directory to the suggested directory ...\downloads\10k-Qt-win
4. Execute the file called 10k-Qt.exe in the directory where it was extracted. A wallet will come up with possibly some error messages. Just close the wallet once it has opened.
5. Goto the directory that the exe file created. You can find it in c:\users\yourwindowsaccountname\AppData\Roaming\10k
6. Inside that directory create a file called 10K.txt and rename it to 10k.conf
7. Post the following lines in the 10k.conf file
daemon=1
server=1
listen=1
maxconnections=100
rpcallowip=local
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=coinerq
rpcpassword=coinerq1
rpcport=9999
addnode=98.174.25.33
addnode=23.92.61.98
addnode=104.236.222.217
addnode=37.59.18.108
addnode=94.190.246.163
addnode=96.236.59.185
addnode=81.152.225.30
addnode=81.164.5.200

The lines above the addnodes are not really necessary for your purpose but you can put them in as is.

8. Go back to your downloads directory where the .exe file was and run it again. The wallet will open again. This time it will connect to the network. You will see an error message at the bottom of the wallet that the the data is old. Don't worry about this as it is normal.
9. The wallet will begin downloading blocks. Blocks are records of transactions (coins sent from one address to another) that have been verified by the network. You can consider it a public ledger of a bunch of transactions. As the wallet processes the blocks and follow the trail of the money, you will see the number of blocks increasing up to the current block. This process can take 30min to 1 hour in this case for where the coin is in the scheme of things. (The proper Bitcoin wallet can take a week to download and process all the blocks). To watch the process you can select Help at the top, then Debug Window and then Information. The current block count is in the middle of the window. The blocks will increase as the wallet downloads and processes the blocks until it is current which was 112544 as of writing this. Once the wallet gets to this point, you will see a "correct mark" at the bottom right of the wallet. If you hover over this with your mouse, you will get a popup that the wallet is up to date.
10. Insert a USB stick into your PC and create a directory called 10K. Go to the directory where you created the 10k.conf file. Copy a file called wallet.dat to the memory stick into the 10K directory. Rename the file wallet.dat.old
11. Go to your wallet and select Settings at the top and select encrypt. It will ask you for a password that you have to enter twice. Select a difficult password and write it down somewhere safe and remember it. The wallet will close and then open it again. Now your wallet file is encrypted and money cannot be stolen from it without knowing the password.
12. Go back to where your wallet.dat file is and copy the file again to your memory stick. You must now store the memory stick in a safe place like a physical safe. if something ever happens to your wallet file, you can use the backup one. If you want to be extra security, you can encrypt the USB stick with Bitlocker and remember the password.
13. Go to Bittrex exchange to your 10K balance and select withdraw. Go to your wallet and select the receive coins at the top. Right click and copy the address. Go to Bittrex and enter that address in the withdraw address block. Enter just 1 coin in the mount for now. Select withdraw. A popup will come up with the transaction about tho happen. the address where it will go to will have the last two digits cut-off which is a Bittrex issue. Enter your 2FA if it was setup and let it withdraw.
14. Now you wait and watch your wallet until a popup comes up bottom right that 1 coin has been received. Once this happens, go back to Bittrex and withdraw the rest of the balance.
15. If all went well your coins will now be in your wallet on your PC.
16. Go back to Bittrex to your 10K balance. Generate a 10K address on the left of the screen. Right click and copy that. Go back to your wallet and select Address Book at the top. Create a new address and paste the Bittrex address there and call it Bittrex.
17. Select "send coins" at the top of your wallet and select the name "Bittrex" that you just created. This is needed so that you don't have to manually enter the address every time. This is one of the the biggest risks in crypto to send coins to an incorrect address as they will be gone then forever. I wish exchanges would create a facility to traders to create address books on the exchange. Enter 1 coin again and select send. You have to enter your password and agree to the small transaction fee. Watch Bittrex to make sure that the 1 coin appears there after a while. You now know that you have a proper two way channel between your wallet and exchange.
18. Go back to your wallet. The message at the bottom of the wallet to the left of the up arrow will say that your wallet is encrypted and locked. Next to it will be a circle with an up arrow and a message if you hover over it that your wallet is not staking because your wallet is locked (encrypted)
19. Go to the top of your wallet and select Help and then Debug window and then console. In the bottom bar type the following command:
"walletpassphrase yourwalletpassword 99999999 true" if successful you will see this command in green in the console. Now click the little "-" sign to the right of that bar so that it clears the screen. Close the console window.
20. If you hover over the little up arrow it will say "Your wallet is not staking because you do not have mature coins". After one hour this message will disappear and your coins while be staking. After several stakes you will get to a point where your stake becomes 0.00 coins. Once this happens, move your coins to another address (I use another wallet on another PC) and then move it back so that your coin age can reset. Your coins will mature again for an hour after which it will start staking again.

PS:
21. Everytime you send money from your wallet somewhere else, your wallet will lock up again. You then have to go back to the console and enter the walletpassphrase like above to unlock it for staking.
23. Sometimes you will see a message popup that you have received a stake amount of coins, but if you go to the transactions tab it is grey with a question mark next to it. This means that your wallet thought it solved the block but actually someone else did and the network rejected your claim. It is called an orphan block. Ignore those but feel sad for a moment that you did not get those coins.
24. It is possible to create more receiving addresses in your wallet for in case you want to use a unique address for each time you receive money from someone or some place. Every time you add a new receiving address, you have to fetch your USB stick from the safe, rename the wallet.dat file there to wallet.dat.old2,3,4 etc. and copy the new wallet.dat to the USB stick. The only drawback is that if you ever forget your wallet password, all later wallet.dat files will be encrypted and the first unencrypted one will only have your first address in it. You can therefore consider creating 50 or so addresses before you encrypt the wallet.dat file, if you foresee using unique addresses a lot.

How do I get rid of orphans?
The repairwallet command just gives me "wallet checked passed" : true
But orphans are still there.

Orphans will be there forever. It is not something physical or a coin. It is just a record or log that the wallet thought it solved a block but the network rejected it as someone else actually solved it.
