521  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Circus (Battery, Recover and more) on: February 22, 2024, 06:29:40 PM
And one minor thing - their original USB cable is so short that makes use of wallet very inconvenient.
Trezor also has super short cables, so maybe they are competing who is going to make the shortest one  Tongue
I don't know what other hardware wallet manufacturers are packing, but for USB-C connections it should be easy to just use same cables from smartphones.

Unfortunately, this also applies to most of the other HW brands.
Best wallets don't have data cables at all Wink
522  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Setting up Blockstream Jade on: February 22, 2024, 06:23:22 PM
The jade, came cheaper and more convenient for me, so I bought it.
I like the small format but I think those navigation/function buttons can be a pain in the ass when typing anything.
Jade is great as small portable device and advantage compared to Seedsigner is internal battery, but I recently saw people started to make Seedsigner cases with integrated battery.
Another nice advantage for Jade is support for Liquid network, and you can also make your own diy Jade if you want.
523  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SeedSigner: Review on: February 22, 2024, 05:33:15 PM
I already showed you aluminum metal case for Seedsigner, and there are many variations of plastic cases, but someone recently made unique wooden SeedSigner case!
I didn't know this, but apparently you can also use wooden fibers in 3d printing machines to make enclosures like this.
This looks amazing, and you can download and print your own as .stl files and everything else is released as open source  Smiley

Is it just me or is the phrase "true randomness" a bit of mixture of pleonasm and misleadingness?
No it's not because there are to many ''random stickers'' for something that is not really random and can be reproduced.
524  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 🔥Satodime🔥 NFC bearer cold wallet with mobile app (iOS & Android) on: February 22, 2024, 05:25:34 PM
Satochip is proud to release the new version of its tool for your Android phone!
Is new updated Satochip app also coming in near future and when can we expect it for download or maybe for early testing?
In would be ideal if we had one app that manages both Satochip and Satodime cards, if possible.
525  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite now supports coin control on: February 22, 2024, 05:22:22 PM
That's why I always like to wait with new updates unless it's something major that fixes serious vulnerabilities. And that's not the case with the new Trezor Suite whose biggest change is in the UI. Bugs and errors are expected.
You can always rollback and install older version of software, this is not the same like updating firmware on device.

Based on the content of their "February update" post, apparently, it'd try to detect and label them to prevent users from copying those addresses [not sure if it'd allow us to remove faulty tags or not].
From what I am reading on address poisoning this is only affecting shitcoins on ethereum, binance and other stupid blockchains like that, so it does not affect Bitcoin at all.
There is a page explaining in details how this attacks are happening:

526  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Keystone 3 HW coming soon! on: February 22, 2024, 05:15:49 PM
Guys from Keystone released a new Roadmap page on their website, so we can see what they are working on.
They are accepting suggestions and that is always good, but we can see that full support for Taproot is finally coming in February with some other updates.
More important updates in Q1 2024 are support for formatting SD cards and XPUB export/display.
No words about Bitcoin only device like I was expecting  Tongue

Keystone discounts are getting really silly... now they have 20% pet day sale  Roll Eyes
527  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: 19 Bitcoin Software Wallets, compared feature by feature on: February 21, 2024, 07:41:37 PM
Hi. Stack Wallet was added to the website !!!
You finally decided to start adding multicoin wallets from now on? Wink

Stack wallet is not bad, but it feels to me like it is still in beta phase, especially desktop version that is randomly crashing on me, and it doesn't support monero.
Good thing to see they are posting regular updates, so I hope they will fix those issues I mentioned in future, and they should add hardware wallet support.
528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Feb 2024] Fees are lower, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: February 21, 2024, 07:15:40 PM
2. Is there a way in Trezor to see the size of each UTXO? Without that info, I have no idea whether a UTXO is dust at this price. I have exported the trezor info into a csv, but that doesn't give me the size of the UTXO.
You can't see this information in Trezor Suite app, but you can turn on coin control, select UTXO you want, and set custom fees double checked on mempool.space.
Try using this UTCO calculator that was made by Jameson Lopp to get more accurate size values:
https://jlopp.github.io/unspendable-utxo-calculator/

I am waiting. I am spending larger inputs now,  but I made an 11 sat vB tx yestertday. I am waiting for less than 2 sat vB for my big consolidations.
This is little bit utopian thinking. Wink
It's more realistic to say that fees are more likely to go up in near future, especially with halving coming soon.
My prediction is that we wont see fees below 10 sat/vB any time soon, but I could be wrong.

529  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: CryptoGadgets v2: source code and STL files released on GitHub on: February 21, 2024, 07:03:34 PM
Unlike similar devices this one uses WebSockets and updates the display real-time, several time per second!
Thank you for releasing source code Wink

I know this devices has WiFi internet connection, but it also needs to be connected to power source that can be computer, so is it possible to use cable connection to get information from internet instead of WiFi?

Post 1:
As an investor, I have carefully analyzed the idea of building mobile mining units equipped with solar panels and batteries for remote locations. While there are potential benefits, it is important to consider the potential drawbacks and challenges associated with this concept:

1. High initial investment: The development and deployment of mobile mining units with solar panels and batteries require a significant upfront investment. This includes the cost of purchasing and installing solar panels, batteries, and mining equipment. The capital expenditure may be a deterrent for potential investors.

2. Uncertain returns: The profitability of Bitcoin mining is subject to various factors such as the price of Bitcoin, mining difficulty, and operational costs. It is crucial to conduct a thorough financial analysis to assess the potential returns and risks associated with this investment. The volatile nature of the cryptocurrency market adds further uncertainty.

3. Technical complexities: Building and maintaining mobile mining units with solar panels and batteries require technical expertise. Ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the mining operations, as well as managing the integration of solar panels and battery systems, can be challenging. Technical issues may lead to downtime and reduced profitability.

4. Regulatory and policy risks: The regulatory environment surrounding cryptocurrencies and renewable energy can be uncertain and subject to change. Investors must carefully monitor and comply with local regulations, which may impact the feasibility and profitability of the mobile mining units.

5. Market demand and competition: While the idea targets the African market with poor electricity and low irrigation activities, the demand for mobile mining units may vary. It is essential to conduct market research to assess the level of interest from potential customers, such as Bitcoin miners, and evaluate the competitive landscape.

6. Operational and logistical challenges: Deploying and managing mobile mining units in remote locations can present logistical challenges. These include transportation, maintenance, and access to reliable internet connectivity. Ensuring the smooth operation of the units and addressing any logistical issues can be demanding.

7. Environmental considerations: While the idea aims to promote green mining, it is important to consider the environmental impact holistically. The production and disposal of mining equipment and batteries can have environmental consequences. Additionally, the reliance on solar panels may raise concerns about the sustainability and recycling of photovoltaic materials.

In conclusion, while the idea of mobile mining units with solar panels and batteries presents potential benefits, it is crucial to carefully evaluate the associated drawbacks and challenges. Conducting comprehensive feasibility studies, financial analyses, and addressing regulatory and operational considerations are essential before making an investment decision.

When considering the implementation of Bitcoin technology in a specific sector, it is important to understand the key concepts and technical characteristics beyond its financial aspects. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

1. Blockchain Technology: Bitcoin is built on blockchain technology, which is a decentralized and transparent ledger. Understanding how blockchain works and its potential applications in various sectors is crucial.

2. Distributed Ledger: Bitcoin's distributed ledger ensures that transactions are verified and recorded by multiple participants, eliminating the need for intermediaries. This concept can be applied to sectors where transparency and trust are essential.

3. Smart Contracts: Bitcoin's blockchain enables the execution of self-executing contracts known as smart contracts. These contracts automatically enforce the terms and conditions agreed upon by the parties involved. Exploring the potential of smart contracts in your sector can be beneficial.

4. Security and Privacy: Bitcoin's underlying technology provides a high level of security and privacy. Understanding the cryptographic principles and mechanisms used in Bitcoin can help in implementing secure systems in your sector.

Regarding books and research papers on the impact of Bitcoin beyond financial reasons, here are a few recommendations:

"Blockchain Revolution" by Don Tapscott and Alex Tapscott: This book explores the potential of blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrencies and its impact on various industries.

"The Age of Cryptocurrency" by Paul Vigna and Michael J. Casey: While primarily focused on cryptocurrencies, this book delves into the broader implications of digital currencies and blockchain technology.

"Blockchain Basics: A Non-Technical Introduction in 25 Steps" by Daniel Drescher: This book provides a comprehensive overview of blockchain technology and its potential applications beyond finance.
531  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: February 21, 2024, 06:42:55 PM
We also do not use mobile devices for this project due to high risks of exposure to possible firmware backdoors implemented during manufacture (this is independently of whether you use clean AOSP builds such as Lineage OS or not). Some desktop platforms are safer in this regards.
Graphene OS is way better for mobile devices, since it is fully open source and updates are released more often, but I agree that any mobile devices are inferior compared to well secured desktop system.

I have however decided to use a residential proxy on top of my setup to access this forum from now. Hopefully theymos will consider some better alternative to Cloudflare within next years or at least could re-configure the current Cloudflare settings to facilitate access to users with complex Tor setups. We are also ready to provide technical assistance in Cloudflare-less DDoS protection setup if it's the case.
We talked about this several times in forum and we would all like to see good alternative for Cloudlfare.
I am not sure theymos is willing to experiment and break something, but testing is maybe possible with new forum software or epochtalk.

We are now temporarily back to our old model (customer-provided liquidity only), but expect to resume having constant XMR liquidity soon once we acquire a good and reliable source.
Maybe you should consider working directly with miners to get more monero coins.

My theory is that the XMR price is been "set" on the big exchanges, but on these platforms it's not a popular cryptocurrency because the typical public of these platform (retail speculative "altcoin investors") prefer generally coins with hype potential and big marketing expenses, and Monero lacks these characteristics.
They set artificial prices for many coins, not just for monero.
Realistic price should be much higher than now, and most shitcoins should have lower or no value at all.
Imagine that solana crap is ranked so high and they literally had more downtime than old dial-up internet connections  Roll Eyes
Meanwhile Bitcoin uptime is 99.98%

My take: Monero, like Bitcoin, is here to stay. If all centralized exchanges delist it, it only becomes closer to how it's supposed to be: private.
Agreed.
Who are those people buying and holding privacy coins on a KYC exchange anyway?
Traders for sure, and people who are speculating with price and don't care at all about privacy.
Note that Binance continues to trade monero futures, so manipulation continues  Tongue

532  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FixedFloat has been hacked (26M $) on: February 21, 2024, 06:28:32 PM
Their description of the hack indicates that the security structure allowed hackers to access the basic functions of the service. It is a complete failure and appears to be access to cold storage, as I see in the explosion that the 1,700 Ethereum were transferred from one address. If they were in the hot wallet, there would have been a large number of addresses.
There is no real difference between using cold and hot wallet addresses.
Only difference for cold wallets is that keys/phrases are stored offline, everything else is the same looking from outside.
Cold storage access can only happen with leak from the inside.

In an ideal scenario, an instant exchange only holds the user's funds until it has enough confirmations to complete the transaction and send back the other coin.
That would operate in snail speed especially for larger transactions, and someone for sure owned $26 million worth of Bitcoin and ethereum that was hacked.

533  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A possible problem with one reputable mixer service on: February 21, 2024, 06:18:01 PM
I heard about this and I think there is a lot of suspicious information coming from this guy who allegedly lost a lot of bitcoins using this sevice.
He never provided a single proof for his claims, he is asking people to trust his words and he spent a lot of money to bring attention to his case.
In bitcointalk forum we have Scam Accusation section and rules say that accuser needs to provide some evidence for his claims if he wants to receive support from others.

535  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite now supports coin control on: February 21, 2024, 03:18:08 PM
Here is the new blog article showing how the new Trezor Suite desktop app looks like compared to old version, and you can also see other improvements and changes they made:
https://trezor.io/learn/a/introducing-the-new-trezor-suite

Activity tab was not working correctly for me in new version, and it didn't show any transaction notifications like before, but maybe they fixed that in v24.2.2.
Address poisoning attack prevention was also introduced for improved security.

536  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Blockstream Jade QR PIN unlock on: February 20, 2024, 10:53:53 PM
How does this scanning QR back and forth between the Blockstream website and the Jade wallet adds any security? Once the PIN is entered, anyone can do the same thing. How is this method any more secure than just entering PIN to unlock a wallet?
Creating one topic is enough, there is really no need for you two create two separate topics in short time about the same PIN issue Tongue

Adding additional PIN code is replacement for secure element, and it's not recorded on device like in other hardware wallets.
That is why they Blockstream is calling this a virtual secure element.

There is plenty information on their website, especially related with QR mode you are using:
https://help.blockstream.com/hc/en-us/articles/10731523559193-Which-unlock-method-should-I-choose-to-access-QR-Mode

Wow great information. I had no idea, all three (PIN, wallet, & phone) need to be specific to unlock. BTW, what happens if I lose my phone (the one I used to scan the Jade QR)?
Nothing happens if you have seed words written and stored offline in secure place.
537  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: February 20, 2024, 10:33:24 PM
Very helpful post!
Should Trezor safe 3 with Infineon OPTIGA Trust M be EAL6+? The table shows it's N/A.
Yeah it should be like that, Trezor website also added that information recently, thank you for noticing it.
I added EAL6+ certification for Trezor 3 Safe, and if you are free to report anything else that is missing or incorrect in this list.
Hardware wallets are changing stuff al the time, so there could be some information that is outdated.

Source code and STL files released:
https://github.com/giovantenne/CG2
Are you still using TTGO T-Display or something else with this code?
I see website is showing e-ink ticker version 3 and it looks a bit different from older version that was posted in OP.

PS
This could be nice affordable alternative for bigger BTClock, and I already have TTGO T-Display that is collecting dust.

539  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fixedfloat is scamming me for 8000+ EUR IMPORTANT PSA! on: February 20, 2024, 09:41:57 PM
Unlikely. That's like robbing a bank when your debit card gets blocked.
Having that much in their hot wallet must be very encouraging for other hackers to try the same though. One way to make it not worth their while would be by keeping significantly less money in hot wallets.
I am not sure, but they pissed some people for sure.
You cant use a bank without verification, while FixedFloat was doing only selective verification, and there are many cases when they seized money from people, it was even posted in this forum about that.

From what I read, a few darknet market admins also lost money unexpectedly with FixedFloat (this was last year and before then as well). It could be they hired some kind of hacker or group to take them down. Either way, its definitely a sort of karma. I don't know how they'll stay in operation after this, or why. Clearly a terrible business model.
I didn't know about that but I am not surprised to hear it.
That doesn't mean that those admins hacked or hired anyone but there is a motive to do it, and this is the first thing to look when crime happens.
Someone probably knew they have a lot of money in held hot wallet, so it is also possible that someone leaked information from the inside.

Is theymos back to sleeping hibernation mod again?  Cool
His last post was on February 6 and I am sure he is busy with other things in his life, but maybe it's time to check merit source applications again.
We know there is one less merit source now and I think icopress will be a good choice to fill the empty spot.
