1241  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk user Joerii passed away... on: September 16, 2023, 08:30:14 PM
A few days ago I got the news that Bitcointalk member Joerii (Joeri Pross) passed away, leaving behind a wife and 2 young kids.
I never knew the guy in forum but I am sorry to hear this Sad
He was only 40 to die unexpected suddenly, but I hear a lot more cases like this in last few years.
I was reading news reports you posted translated from Dutch and they are not saying what was the cause of death, but they know he it was not a crime, he just went out to walk.
Did they found out the real cause of his death? I saw in gofundeme that he died from fatal accident as he slipped and fall into water.
RIP
1242  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crosspass - a simple way to share passwords, encryption keys, banking info on: September 15, 2023, 11:26:08 PM
Re bugs, I have now hired a QA. Hopefully we will reproduce this bug and will catch new bugs before users do.  I plan to release an update by Oct 15.
Am I getting any special reward for catching the first bug? Wink
I already replied to message you sent me, so you know situation about no-code review, but I will try to test Crosspass app again on different device when I have more free time.
Cheers.

Don't give them strange ideas for the Pizza Baking Contest 2024.
Having an Italian stating that "pizza with passion fruit and mayonnaise" is somewhat legit (according to Poe's Law) could lead to a disastrous outcome.
I cant forget this year special exxxotic pizzas that contained lemons, potatoes, and who knows what else.
It can't get any worst then that right? Right??  Tongue

1244  Other / Meta / Re: Use less (No subject) in MP, please on: September 15, 2023, 10:59:02 PM
Therefore, I ask that when you send a PM, write something in the subject of the PM and not just leave the "(No subject)". This helps a lot in managing PMs.
I am guilty for mostly using default option aka No subject in forum Wink
If this was email or if bitcointalk had better personal message system I would probably pay more attention to this, but now it sucks and adding different title when someone already sent me ''No subject'' is silly.
How about instead of changing titles we change and improve the whole messaging system.
1245  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV's Avatar and Signature log (campaign managers read this!) on: September 15, 2023, 10:46:59 PM
Some users try to cheat signature campaigns by switching their signature back and forth between campaigns twice a week. As part of my convenient service for campaign managers, I now keep logs of signature changes of participants. Example: LoyceBot's signature.
Well done!
I am thinking about false positives with this tool.
Is any change to the signature going to be detected, like adding or removing few characters by mistake?
Or it only detects when someone removes and/or changes signature?

1246  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: NEW SafePal X1 hardware wallet on: September 14, 2023, 10:21:41 PM
Not sure if they had a last-minute change or their product page is just inaccurate, but on its user manual page, they're claiming it's a "200mAh battery".
I checked multiple sources and they are all saying battery is 128mAh, but you never know with stuff coming from China  Wink
Manuals often have outdated or different information, something like this happened in my case with one item I purchased from China recently, it happens more than you think.
Only way to confirm battery and screen color is to see review testing from someone, and I heard they gave a lot of Safepal X1 devices for free in Singapore, so they are coming soon.

It appears that it's not going to show the full address on its display [last picture]!
Maybe it shows up full address when you click on it.
Again, let's wait and see first review from some youtuber.

I've been using hardware wallets for years, but the Ledger debacle with key extraction APIs baked into the firmware taught me a lesson about trusting any company.  Open source code is a big part of the answer, but third party wallet access is too.
Maybe they change it later, support for other wallets is must have, for many reasons including multisig setup.
1247  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: my DIY Trezor One with bigger screen and USB-C on: September 14, 2023, 10:07:22 PM
I've just received the 1.3-inch OLED screens and soldered one of them. Here's a photo comparing the two screens.
It makes a big difference, but is it showing more characters on screen or they are just bigger?
Most important change would be to show full transaction addresses, and for signing transaction confirmation.
So now you have two DIY Trezor devices, or it's the same one?
1248  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: 16 Bitcoin Software Wallets, compared feature by feature on: September 14, 2023, 09:57:37 PM
Added MyCitadel software wallet to the comparison.
First time I hear about MyCitadel wallet, but it looks interesting and it has similar clean interface like Electrum wallet.
I see it has support for hardware wallets, so I downloaded it and I will probably test it next few days.
Nice to see list of supported hardware wallets on thebitcoinhole.com website.
1249  Economy / Reputation / Re: JollyGood is trusted by - and question. on: September 13, 2023, 09:10:02 PM
Although some of his feedbacks are crossedlines, we cannot say he has done no good.
So what?
Every person has done some good in their lives, but that doesn't give them the right to abuse anyone and act as a jerk.

Regarding the cow story, where I come from, a 10-year-old child can control 200 cows across towns without any of them leaving the queue; you only need a few strategies to do this, but no strategy is enough when it comes to humans.
I think we live in different worlds you and me.
Millions of people follow instructions from governments, experts and tv programming every day very easy, and they stay perfectly in line better than cows and sheep ever would.
Send any kid or grown man from city to control animals and he will lose them 100%, if they even know what real animals look like.
Anyway, this is way off-topic... I won't post in this topic anymore.
1250  Economy / Reputation / Re: JollyGood is trusted by - and question. on: September 13, 2023, 07:53:38 PM
The reality is that you can't have 10k+ people from diverse cultures and beliefs in the same forum and expect them to have a united opinion on everything. Controlling 200 cows is easier than controlling 10 adults. Trust me  Grin
Yeah I am not so sure about controlling cows, but it's important who controls them, and it's the same with humans, someone is obviously easily controlling millions of people around the world.
I don't think we need to have controllers for anyone in bitcointalk forum, and maybe we are giving this 2 guys more attention then we should.
My advice for Royse is to ignore anything connected with JG, but I said it so many times that I am slowly turning into parrot  Tongue

1251  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any code or extension where I can hide the avatar on the top left page? on: September 13, 2023, 07:23:03 PM
The problem is My partner always curious about what I did on my PC. that's enough to make me uncomfortable when he asks about my avatar forum. Thanks in advance.
Than you better hide everything including address bar because it's clearly written bitcointalk.org there.
uBlock Origin is best extension you can find for hiding just about anything you want, but I don't use it forum.
I think you can also use text-mode only, but then you won't see any images in forum, just text.
1252  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ColorSEED Or how to simply hide your seed phrase on: September 13, 2023, 06:51:19 PM
This is a very simple and safe way to store your seed phrase. You can add these colors to any painting and it won't be noticeable.
There is nothing simple about this, and let me explain why.
I don't like the idea of using color for this because it's not universal solution that is working for everyone.
First thing I thought was about Color Blind people (1 in 12 men are color blind, or about 8%) that simply don't see some colors, but even people with normal eyesight can interpret same color differently.
Even monitors need to be calibrated to show each color correctly, and to calibrate exactly you need special devices, that is another spin ball in this experiment.
Maybe they people can remember color codes, but that is way more complicated for anyone to remember.
I would never use this myself.

1253  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: September 13, 2023, 06:15:52 PM
I am a little confused how any wallet that has a secure element within it is able to be open source in any kind of complete way.
By your logic open source does not exist in any electronic devices because they all using microchips.
There is fully open source wallet Trezor because it doesn't have any secure elements now, and they are in final stages of releasing secure element with open source firmware,
but until then we only have more or less closed source secure elements in everything we use (credit cards, sim cards, computers, hardware wallets, credit cards, etc.).

PS
Please refrain from writing English here in our local board, there is big part of bitcointalk forum for that.
1254  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: September 13, 2023, 06:06:53 PM

Internet, mobiteli, solarni paneli, kompjutori?
Onda taj čovjek mora sva ta pisma isprintati na papir, staviti u torbu, iznajmiti malo bolji auto obično terenac jer do tih udaljenih sela nema ni asfalta ni pravih putova, ništa...

https://www.safepal.com/en/store/x1

1257  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 42 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: September 13, 2023, 09:16:12 AM
Added new SecuX Shield BIO hardware wallet
Maybe you should add word SecuX in front because it's currently separated from all other SecuX wallets on your website.
I always liked design of hardware wallets in form of credit cards, and SecuX Shield BIO has nice additional e-ink display, but I am not a fan of biometric fingerprints for hardware wallets.

PS
One more hardware wallet you can add is new SafePal X1:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5466619

I added it to my backlog. I need to prioritize because there are lots of things to add to the website.
Krux wallet was released way before Secux Shield BIO, so please find some time to include it.
It's much more important to spread the word about open source DIY wallets, than about closed source products.
1258  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / NEW SafePal X1 hardware wallet on: September 13, 2023, 08:25:31 AM
I criticized Safepal many times because of their Safepal S1 closed source hardware wallet, but it looks like they decided to change direction with their new products.

Safepal just released new model of open source device called Safepal X1 hardware wallet, and this can be currently pre-ordered for $70 plus shipping fees.

So far we know that Safepal X1 have design that reminds a bit on calculator or on Coldcard wallet, with 12 buttons and D-pad, and it's using Bluetooth for connection as signing mechanism.
There is integrated 128mAh battery with USB type C connection for charging, and secure element is included with EAL 5+ certification from unknown manufacturer.
Anti-tampering self-destruct mechanism exist, and there is only wallet support for Safepal app and extension.
It's funny that Safepal claims ''unlimited'' support for coins/tokens, but simple check is showing no support for monero.

What can I say initially about Safepal X1 wallet is that price of $70 is not bad, but I have major problem with fact that you can't use it with Electrum or any other third party wallets.
There is also a big question if their open source code is going to be verified and reproducible, and I am not impressed with only Bluetooth connection, I would prefer to have camera and airgapped. functionality.
I think their main competition is Ledger Nano X, and maybe Safepal X1 is better choice because of it's price, bigger 1.8’ color screen and better battery.

1259  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crosspass - a simple way to share passwords, encryption keys, banking info on: September 12, 2023, 07:09:12 AM
We are working on the bug found by @dkbit98 to improve error message, so that we can see what actually happened (I suspect it was related to app permissions).
I am glad I was the first one to publicly find a bug without actually doing a code review  Cheesy

Known bugs are likely UI only and have no security implications.
Maybe, but result is that app is currently not usable for me.
Security implications is secondary if you don't have any usability.
1260  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Looking for testers of our better Bitcoin wallet on: September 11, 2023, 10:52:54 PM
- Private payments: Each payment creates a new single-use address, so even on-chain activity can't be linked, ensuring your privacy.
Since when is this called private payments?
Most bitcoin wallets are already generating new addresses that are not directly connected with older addresses.

If you're interested, let me know!
I don't own an iPhone, but I would be interested in testing this wallet on Android devices if you ever release it.
