1061  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: October 25, 2023, 01:39:24 PM
What I say is simple: do not have Ledger Wallet installed on your PC; use Electrum or another wallet to access Ledger; and never do this type of configuration.
This is clear for anyone who wants to continue using their HW Ledger.
It's impossible to use ledger wallet without ever using ledger crap app.
First you need this crap app to install and update device firmware, so you need to install and use it minimum one time or more.
There is no way around to generate new ledger account with electrum or any other third party wallet if you have new ledger device.

i also read about the 'recover start' yesterday. what i find even more outrageous is that Ledger charges the user €10 for this service (after the first month is free) from the second month on.
will advise everyone in my circle of acquaintances and also here in the form against this service!
Someone has to be crazy or ignorant to pay for this crap $110 to $120 per year, just to have false sense of security.

How safe is that against a thief who steals your Ledger and uses "Recover" to extract your seed phrase from the "secure" element?
They need to have physical access your device first, than anything is possible.
If they can't extract it, maybe they can sign up for Recover instead of owner   Cheesy

1063  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: SCAM upozorenja Zbirni topic on: October 25, 2023, 12:20:59 PM
OK.

1064  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: October 25, 2023, 12:11:01 PM
Feel free to ask more information via private communication channels where we can provide more details.
Thanks, I might do that.

Just curios, what tools exactly you are using to rate if coins coming from eXch have good or bad score?
I really don't trust AML bots and similar tools, and I suspect they could use any address that users type for check could potentially be flagged as suspicious in future.
If not flagged, address check records will certainly be saved somewhere with an IP address.
1065  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 25, 2023, 11:57:25 AM
I've seen several suggestions, and my favourite is still to require more than one DT1-vote to reach DT2, but I doubt there's a perfect solution.
Any change is better than what we have right now, but I don't see any real initiative for a change.

LoyceV is right, what you claim is completely contradictory. If we're talking about improving the forum, it's completely wrong to say, do something, and if I think it's good, I'll be a part of it. If all those who have the capacity to improve something are excluded, who can be expected to do it?
My opinion is not important, but if we do a vote I bet most of the members (including DT) would say that DT system is currently broken, but hey if you like it like it is now, enjoy.
Can it be improved? - Yes.

I'm curious as to how you would change it. I think its set up reasonably well, but perhaps what's more important is its a vast improvement over the old system.
Reducing number of DT2 members is first thing that came to my mind, but someone give me a good proposal and I will support it.

This is the crux of all politics... getting people to believe that their vote matters. Somewhat ironically, the fewer people that vote, the more their vote matters.
I learned that voting is not really that important, it's more important who counts the votes, and I think one well known communist said something like that.  Tongue
1066  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Low trading fee on MEXC on: October 25, 2023, 11:38:45 AM
Watch out for MEXC exchange everyone!
I am hearing a lot of complains from their customers about coins getting stolen/confiscated recently, and they are saying something like risk control, without giving any real explanation for doing this.
There are also some rumors about stolen Coinbase coins getting moved to MEXC, so don't be shocked if they shut down soon.

I apologize for the delays in responses; to be honest, project tasks take precedence at the moment.
No problem.
I would like to give another try in testing Tumbler with a second review, and I hope to see some improvements this time.

We're not trying to achieve a favorable AML score by giving up full CoinJoin. We're adapting to the current situation. Everyone has learned to detect it and label those transactions negatively. Why bother with that? We can take a different approach.
Because some people coins gets confiscated on centralized exchange that is related with this bad score.
1068  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: October 25, 2023, 11:15:49 AM
I have a small question to mprep regarding rule 27: is the automated translation (using an automated translating tool) permitted  from a foreign language into English?
I wouldn't ban any members for using automated translation, unless they are spamming all local boards with shitcoin projects ANN automated translated topics.
We had this situation happening several times in our local board and I always reported them to moderators, that resulted with deletion and sometimes with a ban.
Some people don't speak good enough English language and they need to use some type of translation tools.
1069  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 25, 2023, 10:58:48 AM
DT1 is a voting system. If good people leave, only the bad people are left. So leaving the system makes it worse.
If system is bad it doesn't really matter how many people in the system are ''good'' or ''bad''.
I wouldn't participate in any voting or elections if I know that results won't significantly change anything.
First improve DT system, than ask people to join or leave.

Ali ako ti i Lunorael više volite platili onda go for it  Wink

1071  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: 16 Bitcoin Software Wallets, compared feature by feature on: October 24, 2023, 08:52:07 PM
Stack Duo is a fully open-source cryptocurrency wallet.
It is a fork of Stack Wallet, but stripped down to just Bitcoin and Monero
I think he doesn't want to add any software wallets that support altcoins, except Green wallet by Blockstream that supports L-USDT. L-BTC and other liquid tokens.

Stack Duo wallet was not updated for months, and last time I checked it I saw they are in experimental phase, so I wouldn't use it as main wallet.
1072  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: October 24, 2023, 08:24:22 PM
Ledger just launched and started ledger Recover, that is provided by Coincover, and I urge everyone NOT to use this crap!
If you sign up for this you basically agree that your coins can be seized willingly or unwillingly, because ledger partners all have to comply with governments.
Additional danger is sending your personal ID and ledger is well known as leaker wallet.

1073  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 24, 2023, 07:52:58 PM
DT drama theater came back in town again or what?
I am not supporting Ratimov in any way but throwing him out won't fix anything, and it won't make currently  broke DT system any better.
From the top of my mind I can think of few other members who deserve to be expelled from DT1 for abuse of trust system, but they are still there.

I am really glad I left DT1 on my own, and it will stay like that until I see some real changes, not just cosmetic trim.
1074  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ryder One - Worst Hardware wallet ever? on: October 24, 2023, 03:03:21 PM
$300 to $500 will also be too expensive when there are better hardware wallets with the features and specifications that I like at $200.
I came up with this numbers ($300 to $500) because they are currently offering $90 discount so price cant possible be $100 or $200.
They can even go nuts and put some crazy price because they use premium materials and different concept.
Maybe this is going to be most expensive hardware wallet in the world.

I don't think this would be the worst hardware wallet based on its appearance it looks the same as a smartwatch I checked their website and they mention IP68 which is the model name of a smartwatch.
When did I ever say any hardware wallet is good just because it looks prety?
This is not a beauty content.

One day, Zach Herbert, founder of Foundationdevices, said :  "I believe Bitkey is fundamentally flawed, provides terrible privacy and security, and should not come to market". I think the same can be applied to Ryder One.
I think that Ryder is worse than Bitkey aka Block aka Square wallet.

1075  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: SCAM upozorenja Zbirni topic on: October 24, 2023, 02:05:22 PM
Nije to full clanak.
1076  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ryder One - Worst Hardware wallet ever? on: October 23, 2023, 09:54:21 PM
I don't know if anyone heard about this, but there is one company who wants to eliminate seed phrases from hardware wallets, because they don't like them, so they created Ryder One device.

I wouldn't even call this a real hardware wallet, but Ryder One will be used for Bitcoin and they have secure element Infineon SLE78, so it fits hardware wallet category.

Ryder one has No seed phrases, No physical buttons, No ports, No Bluetooth, No Wi-Fi, and they claim this device is 100% tamper-proof.
Communication is done using NFC connection with Ryder Mobile App installed on smartphone.

Now comes the weird part.
Since they don't use seed phrases, they decided to include people social circle by adding trusted friends and family in recovery process, but assets remain inaccessible to them.
They are using Recovery Tags with their mobile app for creating backup, but that means you can't use this for any other hardware wallets.
I don't know about source code but I suspect it is closed source, so this is even worse than Jack Dorsey Block aka Square wallet or whatever new name they use.
Ryder One will be using Shamir Secret Sharing, and we talked many times before that this is inferior compared to Multisig setup and has single point of failure.

What is the price going to be for this device we don't know yet, but let me give my prediction for something between $300 and $500.

1077  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Jade DIY hardware wallet on: October 23, 2023, 09:32:58 PM
apparently customer data has been leaked at Blockstream! numerous users of the Jade hardware wallet have received the fake email shown below, which looks deceptively real at first glance.
Adam Back has already confirmed that it is a scam.
if you have received this type of email, please delete it immediately and do not click on any link.
I saw this but it doesn't have to be database leak, and this was not confirmed.
From what I heard random people received this phishing email even if they never purchased Jade hardware wallet or signed up for any other Blockstream services.
It is possible this people used their email for some stupid airdrops or they signed up for other crypto newsletters or they purchased some other brand of hardware wallets like ledger aka leaker.
1078  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Onekey Classic or Bitbox on: October 23, 2023, 09:26:17 PM
I wanted to check upon your experiences with these two devices. I already ordered the Onekey Classic so i guess will use that for a while. But was more interested on your thoughts about these, will use them for BTC and to crosschain swap between BTC and USDT on different times, instead on dealing with CEX's.
OneKey is biggest hardware wallet manufacturer from China and they are very popular there, but they mostly cloned code from Trezor.
From my own experience after talking with them about working together on one project, I can say they are semi-amateurs and liars.
I can't seak much about quality of Onekey wallets, but I know they had serious bug connected with secure element, and I wouldn't really use any Onekey device as a main hardware wallet.
Bitbox is Swiss made and they are more professional but small team so don't expect miracles from them, and I think they also started with Trezor code.

I would rather choose Trezor 3 Safe original wallet, instead of both options you mentioned.
1079  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Stainless steel or Titanium on: October 23, 2023, 08:44:49 PM
Apples or orange.
We talked about titanium used instead of stainless steel, but you just didn't saw that.
Onekey is one brand that is making backup plates made only from titanoum metal, but I think I saw few others doing it also.
It is true that titanium have a higher melting point, but it is more expensive, and it is not so easy to find it in local shops like stainless steel.
I heard there are some temperature overheating issues with new iPhone because they used new titanium material for the first time.
1080  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin on BNB (Binance Smart) Chain on: October 23, 2023, 08:36:36 PM
Hi
Is it possible to receive Bitcoin on BNB?
Don't use any fake bitcoin tokens on shitcoin blockchains, especially don't use anything longterm on binance chain.
They already canceled their stable token busd, and I wouldn't be surprised if they shutdown bnb and all other tokens on that network in future.
Most if not all shitcoin blockchains like this are centralized, and they can freeze all tokens, including fake bitcoin on bnb, and manipulate price.
