1381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger Live generates different address for each transaction. How does it work? on: August 21, 2023, 08:13:44 PM
So I've learned that every time when I want to receive BTC to my Ledger Live a new address will be generated. Now I know that this is Native SegWit address and it saves on transaction fees. The question is, how does this work?
Magic  Cheesy
All modern wallets work like that to preserve some privacy with good address management.
One seed phrase can generate almost unlimited number of addresses, but you can still use previous address for receiving coins if you are getting regular payments from same source.
btw Ledger Live is bad piece software and I wouldn't use it anymore.

I always thought that an address is public key and since I have a private key, I can spend the BTC on that particular address. Now it turns out there could be many addresses on the same wallet. Is there any resources I can read or watch that explains how this works?
This is outdated model that is not used today, except maybe with paper wallets.
1382  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recommendations needed for switching to privacy-friendly mobile OS on: August 21, 2023, 08:06:57 PM
This means that even if you're running some super privacy-respecting software like Tails, if you're carrying a smartphone around you, there is chance that the closed-source Android OS can use VoIP and de-anonymize that little privacy square left.
Realistic chances of this scenario happening in real world is minimal, but smartphones are generally a privacy nightmare so it's best not to use them when you want to maintain privacy.
Good old mobile phones still work fine if you want to call someone, receive calls and send/receive sms messages.
If you want more than you can use some of the mobile OS options you mentioned.

I have concluded GrapheneOS, LineageOS and CalyxOS are what govern the space, but I'm quite lost to be honest. I want to read your thoughts on this.
GrapheneOS is best you can get for privacy & security if you want OpenSource software on your smartphone that is updated frequently and it follows Android updates.
Note that GrapheneOS works only with Pixel phones, they can be found very cheap and they have several years for receiving updates.

PS
Don't expect to find perfect working solution.
There is pros and cons with everything.

1385  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [P2P trading platform] by TOP-10 Mining Pool emcd. [No KYC, free withdrawal] on: August 19, 2023, 09:27:12 PM
We have real mining farms and ASIC devices. We are affiliated with ourselves Smiley. Emcd. is a mining pool first of all.
We are in the top 10 of world mining pools, I hope that says something.
Yeah I see now you currently have around 2% of bitcoin hashrate, that gives it a bit more credibility so I decided to test your app.
What I found is that you and your pool are probably based in Russia because all offers I can see in P2P tab are in RUB currency and only Russian banks are available in payment methods.
This can be problematic for users in rest of the world... I also didn't see any option to trade with with cash (maybe I missed it).

You are wasting time on Trustpilot and you wont achieve anything like this...
I don't know why you keep ignoring my question about creating flag (type 2 or 3) against pst.net, but I went ahead created my own type1 flag so anyone can support it:

1387  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Wallets created with Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) are insecure! on: August 19, 2023, 08:47:23 PM
Looks like it only affects intel core 6th to 11th gen, so at least my Sandy Bridge server is not affected Smiley
Don't worry, Sandy Bridge has it's own bugs and flaws, and if you apply all fixes they slow down processor speed a lot  Cheesy

A true RNG uses numbers that are created from noise entropy like from your mouse, keyboard, disk.
Sorry but you are wrong about this.
Do better research what TRUE RNG is and how it can be generated, I won't go offtopic with that anymore.

There is nothing random in Marsenne Twister. If you feed it the same seed, you will always get the same output.
True randomness for a computer is extremely difficult and a really vague concept.
It's not that vague or hard at all... just roll casino dices enough time and you have it, and something similar can be done with hardware devices.
If something can easily be repeated and reproduced than it's not really random.

Nah, Intel has been screwing up for decades.
I know, and they are doing it on purpose (probably)  Tongue

1388  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: August 19, 2023, 08:27:19 PM
Hype is pretty accurate IMO  Grin Our team's 3D printers have been brrr'ing non-stop for the past few months with prototypes...
Prototypes of new devices?
That sounds interesting and I know people who would be interested in participating some kind of beta testing program.
Even sharing .stl files for 3d printing and option to assemble our own devices would be a good idea, something like DIY Passport Wink

Oh, absolutely! Ideally we will have far more Envoy users than Passport users due to it's functionality as an easy-to-use Bitcoin mobile wallet, and would love testers with or without Passport. If you have a Passport there is obviously more functionality to test out, but the majority of the growth in the app planned is on the mobile side that anyone with a smartphone can test out.
Nice.
I see lot of people having a problem to find good open source mobile wallet for Bitcoin, so I will download and test how Envoy works.
In general I can count on fingers all Android Bitcoin wallets, and most of them are not good.
Good mobile wallet should be open source, with option to run full node and option to connect with multiple brand of hardware wallets, or to work standalone.

Yeah, my Passport 2 is equipped with SanDisk Industrial XI 8 GB micro card which  is marked as Industrial but if you look at its  NAND Flash Tech and Endurance (main specs that differ cards) it is closer to Commercial grade (or one may call it Industrial MLC) rather than Industrial one, which is sigh-induced situation in this case.
But you won't use that sd-card all the time, not even near like you would use it in camera, phones or other devices, so chances of getting it corrupted in next few years is minimal to none (unless you operate centralized exchange cold storage).
1389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: I'm Looking for android wallet with taproot, ledger and connecting to my node. on: August 19, 2023, 08:15:30 PM
Hello everyone, I am looking for a bitcoin wallet on Android with Taproot and Ledger support, as well as the possibility to connect to my own Bitcoin Core full node.
I've been searching, but haven't found anything that meets all of these requirements.
On Windows, I've been using Sparrow and it works fluently.
Choice of Android Bitcoin wallets is very limited but I think that Blockstream Green wallet ticks most of the boxes, it is open source, it has ledger support and I think that taproot is supported, but better check that yourself.
Ledger is bad hardware wallet choice in so many ways so I would just ditch it and replace with better open source alternative device.
1390  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor CoinJoin Testing on: August 18, 2023, 07:35:58 PM
The regular Trezor Suite update for August now introduces the coinjoin feature for the Trezor One. Previously, only Model T users could participate in coinjoins.
The latest software release has also slightly simplified the firmware upgrade process for the Model T. Trezor has gotten rid of the step that involved disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
I know this coinjoin implementation is controversial, but It's amazing to see what Trezor has been able to do with this ancient old device  Cheesy
This is first ever hardware wallet in the world and it's still kicking in 2023, almost ten years old.
1391  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: August 18, 2023, 07:26:22 PM
Join our Envoy and Passport Early Access Rewards Program & Earn Bitcoin!
Can people test and report bugs only for Envoy app even if they don't own a Passport device?

I read your thread, and when i see you are using Sd memories, i have to say its one of the most corrupted things on tecnology. And im not talking about corupted by hacking or something, im talking about, i remember when the cellphones still use the Sd your archives can become corrupeted by no reason,i lost a lots of old photos saved on the Sd, so why if the data to unlock the wallet get corrupted?
I think they are using industrial grade micro sd card that are like night & day compared to regular consumer garbage sd cards.
Anyway, you shouldn't really only on sd cards, you should always have backup phrase in multiple places, written on paper or even better on stainless steel plates or washers.

1392  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science on: August 18, 2023, 07:02:45 PM
You  can use like this. Just add &bold to the URL.
If it's not a secret, can you say what font are you using?
I think you might want to think about slightly changing font type (or spacing) when using bold parameter (if that is even possible).
It's fine for most numbers but letters are merging for me and it's not easy to read all of them, that can be a problem when someone want's to verify BTC address.
I think I have a solid eyesight, but other people could have even bigger problem reading than me  Cool

Another strange unreadable result from previous post after I refreshed page:
1393  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [bip39.org] Open Source BIP39 Mnemonic Generator via Email and Password on: August 18, 2023, 06:57:03 PM
Bip39-org is a free, open source html & cli standalone tool to create BIP39 Mnemonic from the combination of Email, Password, security questions, and nonces.
I appreciate your efforts, but from my quick testing I see that I can enter anything I want in email field, so this is acting more like additional passphrase.
I don't see any real benefit of adding real email address, and it can only hurt newbies who (by mistake) could generate keys while being online.

Any random generation and mixing several sources is not really creating true randomness (based on my research).
Using something like good old casino dices and calculating last word is much better option in my opinion, but one downside is much slower process.

- Is it auditable?
I wouldn't recommend anyone using this tool until we see code review or audits from security experts, but it should be fine for experimental purposes.

We would be delighted to welcome you to our website — https://bitcoinwide.com  Smiley
Why don't you add option to choose different countries without opening world map?
I had small issue and I didn't know how to return to main page, and then I found and clicked symbol in bottom right angle.
1395  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [P2P trading platform] by TOP-10 Mining Pool emcd. [No KYC, free withdrawal] on: August 18, 2023, 03:31:39 PM
There is no KYC during beta testing.
The merchants make the prices, so you should expect a slighltly better rate than average price of BTC.
All-in-one platform and mixing everything together doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
I guess there are no many offers for trading right now, so temporary no-kyc during beta test period doesn't mean much either.
btw you should add link for google play store in first post, bith links are redirecting only to apple store.

No, we are not a cloud mining service.
You should try our P2P platform, we have an ongoing Bug Bounty and a raffle with prizes in USDT.
I am sure you don't have real mining farms and ASIC devices, so can you name the mining pool you are affiliated with?
1396  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 18, 2023, 03:20:16 PM
Maybe your wallet wasn’t tampered, but mine was!
Even if I vaguely remember the Ledger App certified that as genuine.
What do you mean? Did you received ledger wallet from betnomi in some of  their giveaway or you got it from some other source?
I saw them changing PCB's all the time, and to be honest I don't trust their integrity check process very much, as well as their closed source devices.

1398  Other / Meta / Re: Privacy Concerns, Can Administrators and Mods Access Personal Messages? on: August 17, 2023, 07:43:53 PM
You can always encrypt all messages on your own and send them to other members, but they would need to have decrypting keys to read them.
If you want to share private confidential information you shouldn't use anything without encryption, but for casual talk it's fine to use forum messages and you shouldn't be concerned about that.
Note that not all encryption is made equal, and I don't consider telegram encryption is good.
1399  Other / Meta / Re: Cleaning up the [glow] tag (SMF patch) on: August 17, 2023, 06:59:41 PM
The patch below removes the extra parameters (without breaking old posts), sets the default to [glow=yellow][/glow], updates/repairs the example on the help page, and changes the icon so that it's yellow instead of green ( ).
New patch already?
What happened with previous one you worked on for adding 2FA functionality in forum?
If this one is done in your free time than I don't mind, but better look for other more serious issues to fix Wink
1400  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: August 17, 2023, 06:28:58 PM
The image in the OP is probken, @dkbit98 maybe you should switch it to Talkimg.
I know, but I was a bit lazy to replace this and all my other images after imgur incident, even if I know there is nice tool to do everything much faster.
Anyway, image is replace now, but it's nothing special just random chip that is not really important for the context.

Am I the only one here who's bothered by the fact that there's only one EAL7 on this whole list, and that most of the mainstream hardware wallets either don't have an SE, or low quality one (hence why I chopped out the first few entries)?
I don't really care about EAL numbers so much since nobody can verify this for closed source secure elements.
Hardware wallet can have highest possible EAL rating and it can still be total crap.

It is quite a shame, as HW manufacturers' reputation is built on trust, and I don't see how you're supposed to gather a lot of trust if you only have one hardware wallet released in the last 5 or so years.
I can create my own trust rating but it means nothing, similar like difference between EAL7, EAL6 or EAL5.

The certification is quite expensive and time consuming. IIRC, EAL4 already costs >$200k (possibly a lot higher) and a year. Going any further than that, it would probably cost more and takes longer. From the business standpoint, it isn't very practical.
Sounds like a scam to me, all this money just to get some ''certificate'' of security, and there is no guarantee someone wont exploit it, only guarantee is signed NDA aka silence.
