1041  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Anyone use a COLDCARD hardware wallet? on: October 31, 2023, 07:51:12 PM
And this is it right there. There are known flaws, fine I don't expect a Mk4 for free to replace my Mk2. Just give me something.
It would be super cool if Passport would somehow add option of loading their source code on older coldcard devices, that would piss off NVK very much  Cheesy
In reality, you can use mk2 and similar old devices only as collectible items, use them for spare parts, or just recycle.

That doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile pursuing. The average person does not care about privacy - that does not mean we should abandon privacy tools. Hell, the average person does not care about bitcoin, and is happy just to live in their little mass surveillance bubble, using their government controlled currency which can be censored or seized at any time.
Oh, I thought we should only care about things we are presented by government, media tv programing, or influencers on social media  Tongue

1042  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passport wallet vs trezor 1 or trezor 2. on: October 31, 2023, 07:43:25 PM
who has tested passport wallet and compared it to trezor?
You can't really compare this hardware wallets, because Passport is new generation airgapped device and they have secure element, unlike old trezor wallets.
Don't get me wrong, but if there is nothing wrong with your current hardware wallets than I don't see why you would nee to buy third one, unless you are gadget addict like me  Cheesy
I know several people who use new Passport device only for bitcoin and they are very happy with it.

I have unable to see any information about its durability, but I believe it is as durable as Trezor hardware wallets if not more. Also that it is not what that would be carried about but kept in a safe place.
I don't have any Passport destruction videos but I am sure it wouldn't survive hit with a hammer.
However, it is made from premium materials, it has metal parts and it should be easier to use than bot trezor devices, but don't expect ip water protection and gorilla glass from Passport.

1043  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: October 31, 2023, 07:25:53 PM
Sure, but in that case, why go through the trouble of creating multiple dummy wallets to protect small sums of money if you are already holding something insignificant there, and your priority should gravitate more towards usability and quick access instead of multiple security layers, hidden wallets, and such!?
Trouble of spending 5 to 10 seconds more for creating/accessing other accounts?  Yeah it's a really big trouble  Cheesy
People can do this because of simple privacy purposes, maybe you don't want someone to see all your addresses, transactions and balance.
Not everyone is running around with wrenches trying to steal crypto from your phone, in fact this are very rear cases and targets are mostly people who publicly brag about crypto ownership.
It's more likely that someone will just steal your phone and wallet with cash than anything related with crypto.
1044  Other / Meta / Re: A concise 2FA/TOTP implementation (SMF patch) on: October 31, 2023, 06:35:53 PM
In practice, you import your shared secret into some application that generates the OTPs for you (like one of the many authenticator apps, or password managers that support TOTP).
I can confirm this works with KeePassXC password manager, and few other apps I tried, but I wouldn't recommend saving 24-character secret in a plain text.

I've been trying to convince theymos for some time to let me take over from Slickage and get things moving again. There's a lot of cool stuff I'd like to work on, but theymos and I each have our constraints, and reaching some kind of agreement that we're both happy with is tricky.
Good to hear that you are trying and not giving up Wink
I can understand theymos partially, it is not easy to change something that you worked on for a very long time.
New forum software would mean more risk for new bugs, and than he would need to dedicate a lot more time for fixing this.
1045  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Jesmo li pronašli Fxsurfera& Antikvarka? on: October 31, 2023, 06:11:36 PM
Breaking news: Fxsurfer is back!  Cheesy

1046  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] eXch.cx - Automatic Exchange | Sig Campaign | Up to 0.0042 BTC/W on: October 31, 2023, 06:04:33 PM
I guess it's time to revive the discussion thread.  Wink
Topic is alive, guys from eXch answered on some very important questions related with risk score, AMBLBot and similar tools.
I suggest everyone to read it if they didn't have time to do it so far.
1047  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ratimov is deleting self-moderated topics. He now goes onto my Ignore list. on: October 28, 2023, 09:37:36 AM
Common LoyceV, you really didn't have to create another topic for Ratimov and about you ignoring him, it's not the first time that someone is deleting self-moderated topics  Roll Eyes
He was part of my ignore list before but I decided to remove him because I found some of his topics useful.

I find it utterly disrespectful to do this on a forum. It also means I never want to post in any of his self-moderated topics again
You are right now writing that in one more self-moderated topic  Cheesy
1048  Other / Meta / Re: [COLLECTION] Members With Custom Titles And Badges! on: October 28, 2023, 09:00:19 AM
how to find how many members and who have different kind of badges?
It's called manual labor  Wink
There is no easy way of doing it, but other members can say if they know anyone else missing from your list.
1049  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: October 28, 2023, 08:08:27 AM
Keep in mind, those older devices use closed source firmware too, so you have no way of knowing if your device has a backdoor giving Ledger - or whoever - access to your seed:
I hope they didnt fire btchip co-founder and worst reddit mod just because of that statement, this was just one of his many semi-truths he said Smiley

On a serious note, this does bring up an interesting question. What happens if someone cancels their automated payment for Ledger Recover? Will they destroy the seed phrase from their storage and all their backups? I find that hard to believe, and you can't know for sure. Or will they just keep your seed phrase, but deny you acces if you ask for it? Or will they just charge you a much higher "manual recovery fee" when you need it? Either way, I'm not going to find out Tongue
Good question.
This should be clearly written and explained on their website, like with any subscription services.
Maybe some ledger fanboy is willing to do a test sacrifice for all of us, and tell us what happens after cancelation Cheesy
1050  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Anyone use a COLDCARD hardware wallet? on: October 28, 2023, 07:58:55 AM
I use a ColdCard but am thinking of moving to something else.
They seem to be dropping support for older HW and I really don't like the attitude of 'just buy a new one'
The Mk1 and Mk2 are no longer getting updates and the Mk3 is barley getting any.
Thank you for posting your honest opinion and feedback about this devices.
Coldcard is slowly but steady going the route of ledger with creating graveyard of old hardware wallets that are not supported anymore.
Sure, some of them are discontinued because of big security flaws, that is much better than ledger creating graveyard for fashion purposes.
Meanwhile, first ever hardware wallet Trezor One is still kicking, working and receiving updates... that is simply amazing.
I don't like the stupid trend of changing hardware wallet devices every year like smartphones  Tongue
1051  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: AirGapped Hardware Wallets on: October 28, 2023, 07:51:34 AM
i do not care about cheap wallet or not.
i am looking for the best one for long term holding.
Passport is probably one of the best air gapped hardware wallet options right now.
It is better built quality than Keystone, you can easily remove battery and you have clean open source code that works only for Bitcoin.

SeedSigner.  Buy it fully assembled if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.  Use it with BlueWallet.  Both are 100% open source.
Seedsigner is not bad but I still consider it as experimental device, and Bluewallet code can't be verified and reproduced, as far as I know.
For any newbie or beginner I would not suggest seedsigner for various reasons, but it's nice to use it in some multisig setup.
1052  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Safe 3 New Hardware Wallet on: October 28, 2023, 07:41:26 AM
This may sound weird, but I like this kind of packaging more since we no longer have to literally destroy the box in order to get to the HW itself...
Yeah I agree, it looks much better.

Having said that, I didn't like how they wrapped their devices with sticky paper that left glue residue in the crevices [the back cover of the Model One was better].
- I also have mixed feelings about the tamper-evident seal on the device since it gives a false sense of security!
I didn't notice that about sticky paper, but tamper evident seal is just a security theater, always has been, and it's not that hard to replicate them.

Everyone watch out from any emails coming from Trezor or similar sources!
There are some news about new Trezor Phishing scam campaign, and there is a chance trezor database was breached, but they are investigating this.
This is exactly why I prefer purchasing any devices, especially hardware wallets locally with cash, this leaves almost zero traces or with personal information.

1053  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: October 28, 2023, 07:32:28 AM
Ako ti nije bad podijeliti, kako znaš toliko o hardware novčanicima? Jel ih prodaješ u slobodno vrijeme ili šta?
Volim testirati različite gadgete, ne samo hardverske novčanike, i ne ne prodajem ih Wink

What are the advantages of the airg gapped wallet?
Same like for any airgapped device.
There is no internet connection and no direct connection with any other devices.

mozda bezvezno pitanje, ali sta meni kao nekome ko nije u stanju verifikovati open-source kod, znaci da li je novcanik open-source ili nije
To je isto kao da kažeš kakve veze ima da li je bitcoin code open source ili ne.  Tongue
Čak i ako ne možeš ništa pročitati i potvrditi code (ako nisi developer) postoji hrpa drugih ljudi koji to mogu učiniti.
1054  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safepal experiences on: October 26, 2023, 03:53:45 PM
...Safepal S1
...
Best way to describe it, this is insecure closed source JUNK that stole and modified source code, than hidden all the traces.
I would never use it for multiple reasons and some of them are explained in one of my topics:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5317884.0

In theory their new device X1 should be a bit better, but that is only in theory.
1055  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Anyone use a COLDCARD hardware wallet? on: October 26, 2023, 03:41:33 PM
* Takes open source to the next level: The open source code can be viewed, verified and compiled directly from the device itself.
They took the code to lower levels.
I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, but Coldcard firmware is NOT open source!
They changed the code to Common Clause, that can be verified, and they only change this on their website after big complains from community members.
Coldcard basically false advertised their product as open source for some time, and I have proofs for that.
I cam not saying they have a bad product, but their owner NVK looks like a ego freak.

Here is Before and After photos:

Is this “Open Source”?
No.

End of story.
1056  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: October 26, 2023, 03:31:24 PM
"AMLBot" is an extremely unreliable risk screening platform operated by a russian team under a company name "SAFELEMENT LIMITED" registered in Hong Kong. Their initial investors and founders come from a high-profile cybercrime background with roots in post-Soviet states who wanted to launder their crypto, therefore they have invested in a such platform that would launder money for them, which was a strategically good decision from a long-term perspective.
I never used this AMBLBot (or any similar services) to check my Bitcoin addresses, and I didn't know AMLBot history up until now, but there was always something fishy about them.
It's sad that many people still use them to check addresses, maybe they are offering some basic free reports idk.

Since most big market players were aware of that incident, AMLBot was able to somehow survive only because of Bestchange, their close partner, doing most of promotion for them, since Bestchange actively push instant exchangers that wish to be listed to become AMLBot customers (basically insisting) and it seems Bestchange doesn't even consider results from other (and more reputable) AML/risk screening providers when there are disputes between exchangers and their customers within the AML/risk scope, which is a misleading practice on purpose.
I would love to hear Bestchange side of the story, but I am still actively searching for good Bestchange alternative.
Maybe Orangefren (or someone else) will finally add best deals for cash to crypto trading offers and vice versa.

I will check them out.

Unfortunately, there is no way to use these platforms without associating your IP with address check results, however if you intend to check your own addresses there, I recommend checking third-party addresses as well to create entropy so there is no way to tell whose are belong to you.
Fortunately, there are residential IP proxy services that can be used in a combination with Tor to obfuscate your original IP address. Good residential proxies are not flagged by IP score screening systems...
There are options to hide ID addresses with Tor and VPN, but I am sure they keep all the records, especially if they are based in Five Eye countries.
1057  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: AnonTransfer.com - 📁 Upload your files anonymously and free📥| 10 GB filesize on: October 26, 2023, 03:13:21 PM
Talk freely on AnonTransfer knowing that your messages and meetings are private and secure. All conversations are encrypted, which means that no one can read your messages or see your files.
Yeah, I don't know if I can really talk freely with all this ads popping up, telling me that I use adblocker.
Even if I disable uBlockerOrigin I am still receiving same message on your website and I also need to fill hCaptcha every time I refresh the page.  Tongue
This is not what I want to have with any chat, especially not with ''anonymous'' chat.

1058  Other / Meta / Re: Why is Halloween not being celebrated in our forum yet this year? on: October 26, 2023, 03:03:01 PM
The best thing about these kinds of contests is they draw all the cheaters & alt accounts, making them easy to identify.
True, but this contest can be fun and they bring a lot more activity in forum.
Last pizza making contest had some worst a antu-Italian pizzas I ever saw in my life, made with potato, lemon, etc  Roll Eyes
That being said I really dont care about halloween at all.

It maybe wouldn't be as popular as the last year's one but rest assured there would be bunch of them who would be happy with even a few merits.
Can we see more items made from lemons, potatoes, rice and other weird stuff for next contest please?  Cheesy
1059  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: October 26, 2023, 01:36:12 PM
1060  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Safe 3 New Hardware Wallet on: October 26, 2023, 01:27:41 PM
First reviews for new Trezor 3 Safe hardware wallet are slowly coming out, and first one I saw was from Decrypt.
Trezor uses brushed aluminum in Trezor 3 back side but it has small flaws in design of rough finish, so it doesn't really have that premium look and feel, but maybe this the case only for review units.
Packaging is different compared to older version of hardware wallet, but setting up wallet is very similar like before.

https://decrypt.co/202808/trezor-safe-3-review-hardware-wallet-bitcoin-newcomers

From latest reply received from Trezor I found out that Trezor won't be releasing .stl files for 3d printing, like they did for older models One and T.
I am a bit disappointed about this, but Trezor said they want to avoid easy cloning of their devices, as if that will prevent anyone from doing this.
I hope we are going to see someone scanning and releasing community made stl version for creating DIY Trezor 3.
