I appreciate Guy giving us his perspective on mining difficulty and where he thinks it is going. Even though Guy is biased, he seems like a pretty straight shooter with more information about other manufacturers than most of us so it's nice to have another data point.

I also hope Guy is right about Bitfury almost losing money on their Georgia and Iceland data centers. Otherwise, we're all doomed and Bitfury will rule the BTC mining world.

Collectively, it is possible for too much money to be invested into Bitcoin mining, and the difficulty would overshoot so that all but the most efficient miners end up losing money. Sadly, unless the price of BTC rises soon, I fear that we're almost at that point and there will be a lot of pain for miners in the near future.

I'm trying to make the math work on an October SP31 hosted with jtoomim, but just can't make the numbers work out on a risk adjusted basis.

It might be prudent to sit on the sidelines (with some BTC in hand to hedge against a sharp price increase, of course) and see how things play out over the rest of the year.

That's what a lot of people do. They try to make the numbers work for them. It is like believing in something that isn't true. Fudge a number here and there and boom, ROI in one year and you can buy a lunch from McDonald's with your profit. Only from the value menu though. In reality it really sucks now. The last month changes have almost kicked me out of the game completely. I'm all for switching my co-location provider to toom.im to save here and there, but getting my father to move his butt has been a challenge.

Would others agree that those numbers are somewhat in the right range? I lowered the diff from %32 down to %14. Is the max profit of $318 even in the right ball park? Trying to get a grasp on that SP31. And those numbers don't even include a hosting fee either.
If it doesn't work for SP31, it won't work with any other miner in the market. The hash-rate growth will slow down. It must.
Buy SP31, host at a low cost facility.

PM with a better price and I'm in. Smiley

Hi guys,
would some veteran member here care about setting up group buy for October SP31 Yukon (B1) - $3,920.00/miner @3kW ? I guess we might be able to get a better price per miner for late October than 4K ... What do you say?  Would there be any interest in GB ?
Thanks in advance.

The only people that will benefit from paying retail price for an SP31 are the ones that get free electricity and are adding to their already large hashing power paying for the rig from already minted coins. If you are paying out of pocket and just starting, you probably won't break even or just barely. You'll need to stay ahead of the curve, which is almost impossible since hardware is expensive and manufacturers have everyone by the balls.

Terribly sorry for all the posts together, but when I'm trying to catch up on the thread and want to respond that's how this forums behaves. As it should have been upgraded with donations a very long time ago.

Video of our DC, with a bit of SP30 and SP10 action at around 3m00s.

Hey guys, glad to see you are getting things together. I hope to be there soon. One question, I know the SP10's get REAL hot on the bottom. Too hot to even touch it. I don't know if the SP30 is like that or not. When you mount multiple SP10's in one rack are the bottoms physically touching another SP10 top? If so, does that even make a difference since your cooling is really efficient there?
Thanks.
667  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 24, 2014, 01:54:17 AM
With a small of exception of the last SP10 batches, we always shipped pre-orders and not about to be produced miners.
We're producing and shipping in the entire shipping period.
We don't produce to a farm, self-mine and ship from the farm at a pre-determined date like Bitmaintech.

That's how Bitmaintech sells from stock. They have to mine themselves so they can sell from stock. You guys couldn't sell from stock and if you wanted to, you might throw up a farm for yourself so you could. I like both companies and support is much better with SP-TECH but in the long run once you become old and cynical like me you get tired of the pre-order game. That's all.

668  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 24, 2014, 01:45:28 AM
Plenty of people, myself included, tried to warn GB participants of this (and other present concerns).  However, if you recall it was a self-moderated thread by Roadstress and he did a wonderful job in silencing anyone who raised these concerns.

That aside, you pre-ordered.  You assumed any and all risks associated with pre-orders, some of which have become reality.  I'd recommend just accepting the situation for the short term and never making the preorder mistake again.

He made Spondoolie a lot of money and he was compensated I think it was 18BTC I read. Unfortunately from reading this thread most people are pissed off that were in that group buy. I don't think someone running a group buy should of moderated/deleted posts of normal concerns and situations. Was that really done? "Silencing anyone who raised these concerns?" I'm just trying to get informed as much as I can so I can make the best decisions later on.
669  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 24, 2014, 01:34:52 AM
I hope the SP31 will be delivered early October (Not second half), and with the expected hashrate, or better ;  Now the chips process must be mature... The early bugs or miscalculations are behind, no?

On their website it says "second half of October".
670  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 24, 2014, 01:33:03 AM
Perhaps you just are not technically competent to run 12 of something as simple as the S3 Smiley (I couldn't resist)... Seriously both pieces of hardware are solid and arguing this aspect of the conversation is silly..

I have many S3's scattered around and have been hashing for a while now. Bought from stock and got them a week later. If you set them up properly they will run like tanks. The best thing a miner can do is hash, which means he is running dirt and getting gold. If you are waiting on hardware and have already spent money weeks ago then you are losing money. Plain and simple. If you aren't dumping dirt into the hopper, (hashing), you aren't making any money. Unfortunately after finally reading through all the BS in this thread I don't like the terms on Spon's new SP31. They guarantee 5.5TH/s but in a form of compensation which would be AFTER you receive the hardware. In my opinion, that's just a little odd. Slap on a no refund and you're stuck if not happy with the results.

It is really hard to catch up on this thread.
671  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 24, 2014, 12:20:54 AM

My order pre-dates the group order by a week or two and I've had my 3xSP30 hosted with Spondoolies and mining for 6 days now.
One was a bit ropey initially so they replaced it and added an extra node for a day to make up for the few hours downtime.

My pre-order experience with Spondoolies has been way better than most suppliers.
They were slightly overconfident to hit such high targets with that form factor on the initial batch, but not so much.
They have delivered good solid kit, on time, and not disastrously off spec. Plus they're giving some compensation.
This makes them a top supplier in my experience.

Pre-orders are a huge risk we choose to take in an attempt to get ahead of the curve.
They always miss spec on batch 1, almost always involve massive delays, and way too frequently the manufacturer delivers obsolete kit or nothing at all.
These guys have done extremely well.

BB

When do you think you'll get all your money back from mining with those? It does stink that BTC has fallen over $100 in the last weeks.
672  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 23, 2014, 11:44:39 PM
The SP31 cost more then the last SP30? And will be delivered after all the SP30's? It is advertised as 5.5TH, is that confirmed or is there a chance that may come out as 4.5TH also? Is there any guarantee that the SP31 will be 5.5TH?

673  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 23, 2014, 11:39:35 PM
thats the catch...it is NOT a mistake by TSMC if they are as spondoolies said 'within spec' just at the low end of that ...I"m sure if they were truely out of spec
spondoolies would have other options....such stuff is likely written by TSMC to benifit them in slippage one direction or the other on performance anyway imho.

Isn't a small batch made up first for testing before throwing in the towel for mass production? I thought that's how products are made, no?

I don't think that this is a correct assessment. Home miner could be doing mining for fun, as a hobby, or something else. Home miner can also SELL his used equipment. Where Bitfury will sell their used miners? As long as home miner comes ahead in comparison with straight buying coins (or even in comparison with just holding cash), home mining will continue.

In my opinion home mining will only continue if the user has enough hashing power to sustain a profit. If someone continues to mine at home losing money, I'm not sure what that's called? I guess all "hobbies" end up costing us more in the long run a lot of the time.
676  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 10, 2014, 04:18:44 PM
Seriously? if so, then he already missed his chance because more than 62% of all bitcoins has been already produced (~13.1 mil=62.3%)

Not sure what happened here, but the SP-TECH post is gone. Only the response is here. I guess it was deleted?
Anyway, an aspiration for world domination takes plain old cash. And the only way to get that much is to be as greedy as you can be.
Excessive desires or obsessions all lead to greed.

677  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 10, 2014, 04:09:08 PM
No. But I do know that their logistic can do 20 metric tons of equipment per day.

Less profit for all of us and less more for those waiting for hardware and even less less more for those about to order. Maybe a price adjustment to keep aligned? Smiley

What do they do just send out random units to different people? Shit, I'm gonna start doing nice reviews with hi resolution pictures. I want some free gear.

The United States makes it almost impossible for a tiny/small/medium company to run. Crypto or not. Move all servers to a country where they want our business and welcome us with open arms. Co-locate your mining rigs to the same. Eliminate the US completely and we'll all be fine. When you see such huge tax breaks for large corporations and small business just gets shit on you start to get that animosity that never goes away.

And yes, NYC is shithole. Last time I was there the smell alone made me want to leave as quick as possible. Just another over grown city bursting at the seams.

I have a couple SP10's hosted. Are these temps within normal operating? If they aren't I'll need to contact the host.
