I see that you now can send dollar, like type $10 and send, how does this work, is this $10 dollars in bitcoin? Does the other person receive bitcoin, i guess so right?

Must be. Don't know if its gems or Bitcoin though.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | iPhone Beta is Live | on: May 25, 2015, 03:59:19 PM
I felt a bit left in the dark the last few days. I know Bitcointalk has been down but maybe a notification on Gems Twitter/FB or some other avenue of communication would of been good. Later we got to get our own forum.
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] FairCoop launch Fairmarket Alpha testing version on: May 20, 2015, 07:17:20 PM
For a coin that is popular because it claims to be about fairness and not speculation has a hell of a lot of speculation going on...LOL
885  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is Bitcoin value more Volatile? on: May 20, 2015, 06:59:10 PM
It is volatile because it is very manipulated and not controlled by any instituion
besides, the market is not really big

Currency is supposed to move based on perceived and actual value. Compared to fiat currencies Bitcoin is the LEAST manipulated. People can play around in the market but almost no one can really manipulate the price. In the fact the main people that have been able to affect the price for a temp time have been the government who dumped artificially not worrying about the price. But this is only temp, no one can actually hold the price up or down for any length of time.

The dollar is 100% manipulated cause the government have the ability to alter the supply.
886  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is Bitcoin value more Volatile? on: May 20, 2015, 06:49:49 PM
Bitcoin is NOT VOLATILE.

Actually not much more than fiats these days, ask a Russian or an Iranian or some South American countries how stable their currency is.

887  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is Bitcoin value more Volatile? on: May 20, 2015, 06:29:46 PM
Actually I was wondering the absolute opposite today. i.e. Why is Bitcoin so stable these days. Sure more users and holders creates stability and also usage holds down any rapid price movements so I guess while Bitcoin is actually flowing that creates a stability?

But my thought is really I think the price stability is purely psychological. Basically to keep it simple people have calmed down. I remember days where 30-50% movements were happening everyday. Actually we could easily bid up like that again even with the many exchanges involved now. I just think people won't allow it due to a belief that Bitcoin is now stable and has a value between 200-300 dollars.

My point is I honestly believe we could decide as a community to bid up to around $500 no sweat. I let the market work out the price but my point is psychology plays probably the biggest part in the price mechanism IMHO at the moment.

So it seems you like the the pumping mechanism  Smiley

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758004.msg11432570#msg11432570

Buying a coin by paypal, great! Surprised you guys managed to do it legally? Gems has been looking for some way for users to buy coins cause it aimed at the mainstream, its not to pump the coin.

I'm an adult I can discern what is good and what is bad about something. I'm saying the coin rising 30-40% in the last 24hrs is based on the vol on Bittrex which is only 10BTC. Thats a fact.
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new alt coin development? on: May 20, 2015, 06:08:26 PM
The strange thing is it's the old coins that have done well this week, not anything new.

Polinex I bet is the reason. Many people dumping heavily traded coins there like dogecoin, monero etc. Just the movement of heavy trading moves the price up and down easily.

*When I posted this Bitcointalk said there was a hacking attempt?
890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | iPhone Beta is Live | on: May 20, 2015, 06:04:05 PM
I hope the airdrop starts soon.

I saw this today, the coin is garbage but they seem to of bypassed buying coins with Paypal and credit cards. Would be a nice option if we had it and could have it legally.

No time to rest as competition increases. Not the same but has some similarities to Gems.

Okay, seriously: why is this coin $2M?

I really understand that somebody who is new to FairCoin/FairCoop is overwhelmed with the fullness of projects, dedicated people, great ideas and with the vision all collaborators share: to build a new global economic system based on cooperation, ethics, solidarity and justice in our economic relations.

Thanks friends!

You made it really before the 3M. After that getfaircoins funds of today came in, and now we are already in the new stage  Grin

3.000.000 !!! Amazing but well deserved  Cool Cool Cool

I also sent all the Faircoop articles and interviews with Enric as news tips to a number of crypto and news sites, so I hope they will pick it up and create some new articles about it to spread the word of the FAIR revolution.

You guys are delusional, there is almost no vol connected with this price spike. A classic pump..

ios version updated, still with bugs on iphone 4,
and referral mechanism still deactivated

Good to see, maybe the referral system is something they just turn on from Gems end not an actual update?

With Apple slow review system Gems really shouldn't rush sending an update cause we are looking at around 2 weeks for updates to process, better to spend some time before sending than have to send twice. I hope though the bugs are minor and don't mean another update to solve.

yes referral mechanism is apart, doesn't need an app update, is server stuff, and the bug are not quite minor, after i enter the verification code it goes to where you must enter your new username or existent user and stays there with a dark-transparent screen and a loading animation, cant go further from there. but the app is optimized for iphone 5 and 6, so i dont know, im just saying, maybe if they fix this problems in iphone 4 wont appear in 5 and 6

Not good if true as the update was to actually fix registration bugs and is essential before we move forward, iPhone 5 is a little old to be honest though. lets see.

This is from polo's terms:

from polo's terms:

10. BSA / FinCEN

Poloniex is registered with FinCEN as an MSB (Money Services Business), registration number 31000055869515. Poloniex may be required to file details of account activity to this organization from time to time.

11. (AML) Anti-Money Laundering & (KYC) Know Your Customer Policy

Poloniex aims to reasonably identify each user by cross-checking user data against governmental watch lists such as OFAC, as well as 3rd party identity verification and authentication services. If a user or a user’s transaction is flagged as suspicious through our internal controls, Poloniex will require additional proof of identification from the user and has the right to not permit any trades, deposits, and/or withdrawals until additional and verifiable proof of identity is received and the Compliance Officer has approved the user for use of the Platform.

By agreeing to our Terms, you acknowledge and understand that Poloniex maintains verification levels which require user participation and verification in order to obtain, with leveled permissions based on user-supplied information, our ability to verify it, and our internal policies. You accept that you may not be able to achieve a desired level of verification, and Poloniex reserves the right to determine, at its sole discretion, the appropriate Verification Level for any user, as well as the right to downgrade users without prior notice. Poloniex may, from time to time, implement policies restricting Verification Levels by nationality, country of residence, or any other factor. This may affect your ability to withdraw funds in your account and you indemnify Poloniex against any losses associated with an inability to deposit and/or withdraw funds based on your verification level.

So yes, they can give your personal info to the gov't whenever they want.

True story, about two months ago I tried to move money from the UK to where I have been living in South Korea (hardly a terrorist state). The transfer wasn't just checked but was actually frozen and the payment I made was not honoured which actually cost me cause I lost out on a currency price. It took a while to get in touch with my bank to get some answers, they told me because the amount was over 5,000 pounds which is around $7,000. I wasn't helped I was basically roughly accused by some kid on the phone about my personal beliefs and if I held extremist views and what MY money was being used for. I was basically threatened that IF I didn't answer the questions I wouldn't be able to unfreeze MY money. Personally I didn't take any shit but I imagine most would of been nervous from this kid on the phone. So cut a long story short we are clearly moving into a time of capital controls, what could anyone do with $7,000 these days, it wouldn't even buy you a car, so my perfectly legally account is frozen for what is for the average guy a couple of months wages. BS on the Terrorist stuff, thats just how they shoehorn this kind of stuff in. Next they just have to change the definition of extremist to someone who owns a large amount of Bitcoin or expresses anti government sentiments. etc...

If people didn't know already Polinex will require name and country of residence when withdrawing funds from tomorrow. I don't know exactly how they want to confirm this or if they will even but personally I'm not hanging around to wait and see.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1065042.0

This leaves Gems without a major exchange which doesn't have some kind of problem or issue of security (BTER) etc. What are people here likely to do and should we push for another major exchange like Cryptsy to include us?
But what will happen if I offer the names and country?

If its your actual details then who knows where that info can go? But i'm pretty sure tax authorities will be interested.

Really? I cant imagine my tax authorities (Germany) will ever even consider asking polo for information. Thats definately not how tax authorities work.

A country in the EU not being interested in tax? Disagree.

I asked on the Polinex troll box and while for now you can probably get away with false names they are likely to ask for verification later. Anyway I didn't look into exchanges cause Polinex was always pretty good for me but I think I will move to Bittrex.

Tax authorities are not browsing the internet looking for crypto trading sites and then start asking to check if one of their 80mil inhabitants might trade there. They simply dont work that way.

You are looking at this around the wrong way. The Tax/Financial regulators/Government aren't going around anywhere, they are simply setting the rules which means they get your info handed to them. Polinex is simply protecting its ass cause if they are registered and DON'T have this info they could be heavily fined or a lot worse, facilitating tax evasion, money laundering etc. For sure its the thin edge of the wedge but this it won't stop here, they will want proof of id pretty soon. The fact is any gain from investing is supposed to be taxed or at least should be declared for tax purposes so why are you so confident financial regulators who will see these sites as any other financial trading sites will simply not worry about your potential profits? Consider also the world we live in today where the Western world particularly in Europe is fighting Tax evasion and money laundering apparently to protect us from 'Terrorists' and sees Bitcoin as a conduit for that.

What is happening is regulated Bitcoin exchanges are opening now so they will be wanting to get rid of unregulated ones.

By the way I don't have any negative feelings toward Polinex over this, they have to do what they have to do, but I personally can choose not to hand over personal info, people are free to choose, I'm just making people aware its happening.

Bter and Polo has still problem at withdrawal and deposit?  Coz of them people sell their qora  Angry

VERY shortsighted. The reason people are selling is because major exchanges are facing issues like regulation and security issues. The major beneficiary of that could actually be Qora and other coins with decentralized exchanges. Qora is in a sweet spot for that right now, wish I hadn't sold all mine now.
899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next-Gen Bitcoin Debit Card Finally Launched? on: May 19, 2015, 07:27:43 AM
this is something that could encourage more the use of bitcoin instead of fiat, i hope they will make a visa version too or for other circuits for that matter

Not really, all you doing is intertwining the two. Bitcoin was originally designed as a currency - it should be able to buy goods and services on its own without the need for conversion to fiat. The problem is that no merchants actually want to accept Bitcoin by itself - even they convert it to fiat. This presents a problem, Bitcoin isn't really a currency anymore, it's more of a commodity to be traded rather than used.

This is 100% true... Finney also stated that digital currencies would eventually be commercialized to death. These payment processors, kill the advantages that Bitcoin has over other payment options. They create these "services" to take fee's and these fee's makes the use of Bitcoin more expensive.

These companies also have to adhere to strict regulations {KYC / AML } and in doing so, they nulify any anonimity Bitcoin had.

We accept these practices, because we are desperate for mass adoption and these companies are making that possible... So this knife has two edges.. Huh

Seems fishy, like a we can't beat them then lets regulate and milk them.

Saying that IF it was anonymous and even if it wasn't and even if we paid fees it would I guess work like a Gold backed card which might if we have a serious currency crisis become a legitimate option for the mainstream public that just saw its money evaporate. Will I even use it? Probably not. Let the mainstream use this NSA wired BS and let the sensible people use Bitcoin how they were intended.

How is a debitcard anonymous? Won't it have your name on the card?

Surely atms could take a picture of you everytime it recognizes the bitcoin chip?
