1841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else have a feeling NXT is about to explode? on: May 10, 2014, 08:05:29 AM
look at the distribution model, possibly the worst in living memory.

NXT were brought for total of 21 btc between ~73 stakeholders
current valuation~ 71,450 BTC (very short time later)

The big flaw in this whole argument about "distribution" is that it's based more on a toy-throwing-out-of-pram premise than any dispassionate appraisal of the "distribution model".

For example. The argument goes that NxT stakeholders stand to make an X0000000 % gain from their investment and that that's somehow "excessive". Whereas if someone buying a currency that had, say 5000 buy-ins and also made an X0000000 % gain - that would be alright.

The fact is that there isn't anywhere near enough market liquidity in any of these currencies for such gains ever to be realised at the amounts of holdings the original stakeholders had. Thats why it doesn't matter if it's 76 or 7600 original holders - it's like melting 2 big blocks of ice or 20 little ones in a jug of water. It dilutes just the same.

If the envisaged potential market for these cryptos is, say 50 million people, then an initial "distribution" of 5000 doesn't look too great either. That's 0.01% of the market getting the initial stake. Thats the real hypocrisy behind these empty criticisms.

I've many times tried to explain these points far less eloquently. This should be a sticky or something..

The notion of fair distribution has alway driven me nuts. I mean if the ultimate goal is for a currency to be global and used extensively (coins like NEM do push this idea) then even if everyone who ever used bitcointalk got coins it would still be like .0000001 of the population had all the wealth for free. Even if those who have some a bitcoin today is a tiny fraction of the global population, how is that 'fair'.

The truth is NXT was at a very low price early on, people had a chance to buy cheap who missed the IPO. That fact is swept under the rug by those crying foul.

Is there any details about the technology of the qora? Just like a whitePaper.
I just want to know more about the qora, and then I can try to promote it .
Before I promote it , I think I must know it very clearly.

There is no white paper. I don't know if the developer will do one at a later date but he has said there will be a website with documentation at some point.
1843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fidor Becomes First Bank to Use Ripple Payment Protocol on: May 10, 2014, 07:25:12 AM
It don't like Ripple personally, it's a pain to use for the average user, trust stuff etc...

But I accept it's power was anyways as a kind of mainstream Bitcoin protocol that could be built upon like banks. While I don't like it, it is the mainstreams acceptable face of Crypto. I personally don't care about it but I wouldn't be completely surprised if the bank I use in 20 years is based on it.

First i read this:

Before you claim I am a hater, I fit the definition of an "early adopter" of NxT as I bought in 2013.

If early adopters like me think NxT is a scam, what does that say?

Later I read this: https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/bithaus-the-very-first-nxt-fiat-exchange-is-near!/msg17405/#msg17405

5min later I see the price +50%.

Finally I laugh at your FACE.

 Cheesy

Yeah laugh at the new bagholders who are buying into NxT atm.

I bought around this price some months back. I haven't at any point regretted it or thought seriously about selling it even when it was at its lowest.

Its should really be about 10x the price it is now and still you could argue it would be dirt cheap. It was FUD spread by idiots like you that kept a great innovation down cause they didn't make enough money from it.
1846  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else have a feeling NXT is about to explode? on: May 09, 2014, 02:01:27 PM
The original stakeholders in NXT risked 1 BTC of their money when Nxt was nothing but a pipe-dream and most of us thought it would never be anything

NXT is just speculative investment, it has no real use. I consider NXT still worth nothing

And which cryptos, in your considered opinion, do have "real use"?

NxT promotes itself, somewhat, as an innovative platform but there's nothing proprietary in the cryptos - "no patents no money" as VC investors would say.

Only thing you can invest in is the community of a coin.  NxT may have its' own loyal cult-like fanbase but the distribution model otherwise is a deterrent which stops the masses from coming in.  There's also stuff like BCnext fleeing and fireselling all his NxT

Before you claim I am a hater, I fit the definition of an "early adopter" of NxT as I bought in 2013.

If early adopters like me think NxT is a scam, what does that say?

That you're an idiot?
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else have a feeling NXT is about to explode? on: May 09, 2014, 01:56:46 PM
people still having the stupid conversation about the distribution? You got to focus on the quality of the system now. If you don't you are basically saying I don't care about cryptocurrencies beyond how much money I can make.

At this point it doesn't matter anymore. Its still silly cheap IMO.

Oh, and is it too early to be smug about being right about the price move?
1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | IPO | Escrow | 100% POS | New Source | Beta Available on: May 09, 2014, 01:47:47 PM
So you make a Qora address and use that to sign the same BTC address you sent the stake bitcoin?

The on the PM post the BTC address, signature and qora address?.....seems fool proof.

Yes...  definitely fool proof...  you can actually make the signature public and it wouldn't change a thing in terms of being a safe way to provide qora with an address...  people that sent BTC from an exchange wouldn't be able to do it this way of course...  so your list idea is still LIVE!   Wink

Seems the way to do it then. I did learn how to sign with my multibit account for my stake. Its easyish for most people I think, maybe the odd tutorial would be good to link.

Maybe the list could just be for those who sent from exchanges. I imagine there are only a few if any..

you can say I'm a dreamer

You must be up to the 20 pointless posts you need to get some small share of a shitcoin by now surely...

If i had access to your PM and account generally, which the moderators do here by the way. Then they know everything, including the btc address you sent on and probably the signature you used for your BTC address.

I'm absolutely no expert but surely sending a Qora address to Qora. Then he takes the list and puts it next to the BTC donations. Then give everyone a week to see that list, which gives people a chance to say if someone has sent a false address. Then Qora sends out.

Your idea about the list is not bad...  however...  the signing a message (Qora address) with the sending BTC address route is very safe and probably the best way to go...  review how signing messages with your BTC address works and it will become clear very quickly.

Edit:  Will not work for those that sent BTC from exchanges though.

So you make a Qora address and use that to sign the same BTC address you sent the stake bitcoin?

The on the PM post the BTC address, signature and qora address?.....seems fool proof.

1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | IPO | Escrow | 100% POS | New Source | Beta Available on: May 09, 2014, 11:53:35 AM
I think the most secure way is to just use Qora itself as in investors pm me the address they want to receive their share on.

+1

As for me I'll just sing a message with my qora address using btc investment address. I think it's the most secure way.

I guess the safety concern is that out PM address could be compromised. If it was your plan still would not be perfect.

Some people could make false claims and say oh that address is not right but they could be worked out by sending a small payment on their BTC address etc.

I think we need a fool proof and easy way, I'm sure we can sort this out. But with the recent holes found in windows and this forum being a harem of hackers we should go the 100% hacker proof way and assume the worst about access to our PM address. I mean someone needs only to hack a moderators address and all PM's are compromised.

HOW DOES THE SEED THING WORK?

Pretty much the same as private keys in bitcoin. You got private key - you got a wallet. The same with seed.

so in theory it's no more safer than if you generated your own address?

I guess if you get your seed, you have advantage that there can be a time delay while people who don't receive the seed can say something plus make a password to protect the wallet?

I'd say it is less safer. If someone gets your seed before you get, you're screwed.

I guess Qora (BCNext) wanted to use the same way of distribution he used for Nxt but didn't think this through  Smiley
In Nxt you send a password hash and dev sends coins to the address he gets from a hash and you're the only person who has a password.

With seed (or privat key) there are at least two people who have an access to your wallet after coins are distributed: you and dev. Plus anybody who has read your PMs and got a seed from it.

Well I think Qora is aware of the PM risks. Won't have a time delay give at least people a chance to find any playing around. I mean if people make their own address, then PM Qora with it. He can make a list of anonymous addresses with the BTC stake amount next to it. Everyone can see if they can find their address and if they can't they can have time to say something?

I mean we already have a google doc of stakes, just need to add the address people send.

I personally have no problem if this lasts for a week or so to clear up any false claim cases.

I think sending an address to Qora is a pretty simple way to do it. I dont have any more secure way???

BUT it's not fool proof. If someone does have access to your PM they could send an address they make.

CALL ME PARANOID BUT THIS FORUM IS FULL OF HACKER TYPES. WE NEED A SECURE WAY TO DO THIS.

PEOPLE SHOULD CHANGE THEIR ACCOUNT ADDRESS NOW IN CASE THEY ARE HACKED ALREADY.

PEOPLE CALLING TO USE SEEDS WITH SOCK PUPPET ACCOUNTS AND BROKEN ENGLISH WORRIES ME, SORRY IF THAT SOUNDS RACIST.

HOW DOES THE SEED THING WORK?

Launch is planned for May 16th yes.

will the asset exchange from the start give us the ability to trade in various fiats, commodities etc through colored coins?

Or do we need to wait for others to set that up and trading volume to increase?
1858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the FED already control Bitcoin? on: May 08, 2014, 06:52:06 AM
Owning BTC =/= controlling it.

Control is what FED has been doing with US dollar via quantitative easing (printing currency).

Now even if they have lots of BTC the only thing FED can actually do is sell it. Once FED does that that's it. They will need to buy more to dump the price again. See the difference here? If we stay councious of this situation FED will lose money buy selling and trying to dump it.

Yeah that's a positive viewpoint and hopefully true. I guess I wonder if the media onslaught against Bitcoin is orchestrated with organised price dumps to scare people away. But your right in the end they can't make Bitcoin like they do dollars. We need to stay strong through the storms...

I'm not that familiar with the technology of Etherum bit with some rumors of Goldman Sachs (a well known proxy of the FED) I get concerned when I hear words like Derivatives thrown around.  Gold is controlled by basically making the supply (paper gold) limitless through Derivatives and then controlling those Derivatives.

I sincerely hope Etherum or anyone else doesn't turn a bitcoin into another manipulated financial product.

Crony capitalists like Munger can't control it, why would they like it...

Try not to get suckered into the scam debate people, we knew I guess this would come and it will grow if the coin grows. The distribution was nothing like NXT. 128 BTC was collected! On a highly risky coin that most of us thought in the end really was a scam. The premium we as stakeholders get is taking that risk. People can buy on the exchanges at cheap prices. It's as fair and as simple as POS could be. People just didn't invest, that's their problem, this thread had several thousand views. People must of seen it...Pus the IPO was extended.

The best policy with these accusations is probably

Ignore, Ignore, Ignore...
