881  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you are becoming a billionaire in 2025,buying a large ship should not be goal on: October 08, 2023, 03:51:27 PM
~
So let say my investment all turn out the way I wanted and I become a billionaire, you don't have the right to tell me how to spend my money. If I want to buy islands, large cruise ships and other luxury items, I'll do that.
Guy, relax. Even me like dis sef too get the right to tell you not to buy any cruise ship no matter the billions you make from this industry. You know why? Hold on, I will tell you in simple term and that will be over a few bottles of drinkables.

On a serious note, and in practical reality, I want OP to realize that they can't tell anyone how they spend their money; especially when they aren't dependent on them to make the money. Though there's a place to get someone to advise one on what and what to invest one's money. That should be sought for and not made mandatory. People believe that since they're the ones making the money, they should also be the ones deciding how they will spend it.

Sadly, there's that propensity of lavish spending among new money. Investing is, most often, the last thing that comes to them until the cash is severely depleted. We see this among those who hit casino jackpots or footballers that they easily go broke within a few years after their boom.
882  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you believe Technical Analysis? on: October 08, 2023, 06:56:45 AM
I'd like to pose a new question here.
What are your thoughts on using past charts(candlesticks) that similar current ongoing charts(candlesticks) to make price predictions?
My thought on this – Look at how big ships are, yet what controls them to meander through seas is a compass. That's what candle patterns do.

Look at snakes, they've very poor sight. Yet they move around and catch preys. What helps them do that is the sound waves released by preys. If preys remain still, snakes are definitely going to crawl pass them or over them without knowing they've got preys there. That's what candlesticks do. They help traders catch trade directions.

Therefore, invariably, it's a given that candlesticks/TA are very essential in trading. They're the navigation tools every trader should be looking at. I don't joke with candle formations. I wait till the very last second to see a candle forms. Anything can happen within a few seconds before candles close. So, it's advisable to wait till they close and begin to form new ones.
883  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How long to learn trading? on: October 08, 2023, 05:17:59 AM
Please I like to read the personal experience of some traders here, how long did it take you to learn to trade profitably...
The first thing you should know is that the learning process for trading differs for everyone. It's not cast in stone. Don't be anxious for nothing when you see others who've perfected the mastery (near mastery, actually) of it before you. Even those you see as profitable traders still continue to learn. Every trader wants to be better each time they open their devices. The trader who makes $1 on a trade wants to learn how to increase it to $5 and so on. What makes the difference between pro-traders and others is the leverage they use and succeed at it. It's not as if they don't record losses too.

Quote
...and what was the hardest thing to learn?
Trading is more of psychology than the skills itself. Don't get me wrong, both are important. You need both to succeed but if you've the skills and your emotions are in tatters, then you aren't going to make headway. Put your emotions in check while trading. When winning or losing; maintain the same approach and outlook. Don't get excited when you've a winning trade and don't get angry when you've a losing trade. Both have lessons they teach.
884  Economy / Reputation / Re: If someone is a proven liar, do they deserve to be given negative trust? on: October 06, 2023, 03:20:09 PM
Even though theymos has a wise view regarding the trust system, but not all members can think like theymos.
These are two different things, from the eyes of two different classes of users. Theymos sees this forum from the eye of an owner and would do everything he can to keep here harmonious, not allowing anything that will unnecessarily drive away those who use this place while the rest of us are the users and we see it as a place of interaction, and most times a competition.

What theymos does is the same thing a business owner does with the way he handles his customers and tries to placate any unsatisfied one while the children of the business owner may not care much if aggrieved customers are pacified or not or they come back to patronize their businesses or not.

Anyway, OP, you better take these trust things patiently and not get too emotionally involved. I'm telling you from experience.
Users will continue to get agitated over tags as long as tags are used by campaign managers as a point of reference for enrollment in their campaigns.

Sincerely, I don't think it's lack of emotional control that makes early adopters of projects sell off. I can say it's the likelihood of lack of interest as time goes on or the fact that hodlers want to quickly take out profit and then get in back quickly to profit from a dip. In most cases, they sell off but aren't able to buy in cheap again.

I speak from experience. I was one of those who got in early on BNB in 2017 less than a month after it was launched. I sold off at X100 at what I thought was a good profit then, only to see where it's today. My mistake (I was still a noob then) was selling all. I could've left a portion. If it were now, I ain't sure I would've made that mistake.

Again, it's not lack of patience. I've also been a victim of exercising immense patience on certain projects I was hodling to the point that I baghedl them in worthlessness. This is why people would tell you not to get emotionally attacked to any project.

Forex na di biggest market wey de for di world and im don already de established, compared to bitcoin wey just de start. 891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always ask questions, it doesn't make you a fool. on: October 03, 2023, 07:56:32 PM
It's more than foolish if you don't read, search to find answers before you ask questions.

If you always ask questions without your due diligent research, it's foolish because I am doubtful you will read any replies on your questions. Being lazy enough to not search that is enough to don't read any reply.

The thread Newbies - Read before posting is for lazy members who don't search but always ask.
I side with you on this, notwithstanding the local saying where I come from that a man who asks questions seldomly misses his way. I believe not all puzzles are meant to be asked in questions before they're solved. Some are solvable within seconds if we looked hard enough without looking unsettled. What I've come to find here is that some of these new ones coming in here hardly take the timeout to peruse this place before jumping to ask questions which in most cases had already been asked and right up there in their face.
892  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for October on: October 03, 2023, 07:38:45 PM
Even those self acclaimed trade experts who predicted bearishness for Bitcoin are making a U-turn and tipping the bull to take over. Months ago, I maintained that the last quarters of this year will be bullish (we're yet to see the real bullishness, though). What informed my opinion is the fact that the last quarters of the year leading to Bitcoin halving is always filled with optimism. It's this optimism that kicks up the greed index. That's what we're about to witness now. However, if price doesn't push up immediately from here, I won't panic. I know it's momentary price correction because the overall trend for Bitcoin going forward is bullishness till 2025. That's my bias, anyway. It's not a financial advice.
893  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you manage your finances and family if your income is low range? on: October 03, 2023, 04:31:15 PM
Eating, drinking, housing, and clothing, these are the basic components of human life that cannot be dispensed with.
I saw what you did there by adding, "drinking" 🤔. Drinking should be seen as a luxury. I was given to understand in my formative years that the basic were Food, Shelter and Clothing; but it's ok if you want to indulge your cravings. We're going to call for an amendment then 🤗.

Joking apart, and back to the issue at hand, I think the easiest way to manage a family on a meagre income is to tailor one's expenses to suit one's earnings. Discourage anything that will weigh on one's income. If one is married with kids, one shouldn't be in competition with others on what school one's kids attend. If one can't afford private schools, one should place the kids in public or government owned schools. At least, school is school. The kids all get to be taught the same syllabus and alphabets. Close your eyes to the environment, put extra time in teaching your kids when they're back from school. Pick what you eat to stay healthy. Hangout less so you won't spend more. Be quiet at parties, and don't spray cash because others are doing so. Cook at home more and minimize eating out. Then, finally, work on getting a side hustle.
894  Economy / Economics / Re: What would you do in this situation? Invest or save? on: October 03, 2023, 04:11:49 PM
If you have plans to start a dream business that requires a capital of  $20,000 and you were able to make a savings of $15,000 which obviously isn't enough to start up the business, what would be your decision or advice?

1. Invest the $15,000 into a smaller business hoping that the returns will yield the remaining $15,000 in a short period. Note that this has the potential of failing and wasting the already-saved  $15,000.
I know we're dealing with a hypothetical situation here (though you said it's a real life situation), I still want to point out the error in your maths. The remaining cash to make up the $20,000 should be $5,000 and not $15,000.

Quote
2. Keep the $15,000 while doing other work that will yield the remaining money over a long period.
I'm a firm believer of stating small to grow big. Conceive what and how you want the business to be and start by prioritizing what you need to get the business running. Sometimes, financial temptations may arise that can make one misplace the cash set aside for the business if the business hadn't already begun. So, I would start with the $15,000 and gradually grow the profit.
895  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need a mentor in my bitcoin journey. on: October 03, 2023, 01:20:45 PM
Yes, you need a mentor but it's not a requirement. If you've one, fine. If you don't, it's still ok. Mentorship will help you stand on the shoulders of giants so you can see far and well ahead in the industry/business you're getting into. It's not just in the crypto industry alone. It's in all facets of life. If you can get one who will have time commitment to you and be willing to impact your journey with or without tasking you financially, stick to such one. I got here by a stroke of luck; never had a mentor. I had to learn the ropes by myself and I believe it took me a longer time to get to the point I'm right now than it would've had I had a mentor. A mentor would've jump started me, I believe.
896  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL is purely a mental challenge on: October 03, 2023, 01:04:14 PM
After all, it's a very important lesson to know that HODL is purely a mental challenge. If you want to HODL correctly, you should know and pay attention to all points mentioned above.  Smiley
This is where I thumb up for Satoshi Nakamoto. Whoever they're or whatever entity that's. I give it up to him/them, staying unshaken despite all through the various ATHs; even the one in 2021 and the wallets alleged to be his/theirs still didn't move. It takes a special kind of mind control not to trade that wallet, honestly.

HODL dates back to a Bitcointalk post from 2015...
It's a shame the author isn't around anymore. Would love to hear his story.
The dude was active till June 2022. It's not as if he left that year he made that "whiskey" enhanced post which turned out legendary 😏
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I can't keep up with the High gas fees on: October 03, 2023, 10:20:25 AM
When I mention "high gas fees," I'm referring to fees that surpass the current charges imposed by Visa and Mastercard. After all, decentralized finance (DeFi) aims to compete in this space.
More than anything, people will care more for their anonymity and ease of transaction than whatever they pay as transaction fee. Besides, what you think is high now is really minute if you compared what we suffered with ETH gas fees during the ICO years. It was simply crazy and so many of us couldn't get their bounty tokens or airdrops withdrawn because of exorbitant charges.

Anyway, this is what I found regarding current transaction fees:

That does not seem too bad. What are the current fees for credit card transactions?
Nope, it doesn't at all.
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin always fight back on: October 03, 2023, 08:13:31 AM
Either way, I think it's generally better for parents to have something left for their children than nothing. It's generally better for a mother and father to think of their children's future and even do some preparations for it. I don't know if this is just in my culture, but it's probably natural even.
I think what parent(s) should be more emphatic leaving for their children is education. Nothing lasts like education. Nothing gives prestige like education. It's sad that our world now has become more money conscious that virtue enthroned. People can do anything to show affluence, whether ill-gotten or not and that's really appalling.

You see, life itself can be a gamble.
Life, indeed, is a gamble. It's an unmitigated risk type of gambling by my submission. Interview those who've made it big in life, the humble ones among them will tell you they never saw their rise to stardom or fame coming. We dabble into different things until one clicks. I'm sure everyone in this forum must've had their own taste of the vicissitudes of life. We all didn't start with the business of Bitcoin but here we're and taking our chances to see if we would succeed at it here. That's the gamble in life. We never can tell which of our endeavours will give us that leverage and fulfilment we seek.
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shiba Inu (SHIB): The Rising Star Redefining the Crypto Landscape on: October 02, 2023, 08:14:58 PM
Before the meme coin bubble we were considered investors in modern, innovative technology, after the meme coin bubble we are considered gamblers with a kindergarten mentality.
It's hilarious how you kind of put it 😆, especially the last line there. I never saw it that way, anyway. The gambling part (though not gambling as used here) comes with everything business in life. One moves in with one's conviction that the business/investment one is putting one's money on would come up well but in most cases it doesn't. I did a lot of flipping with Shib. Bought and sold, then repeated and rinsed a couple of times. I even staked to earn a particular time, repeated that too. At the moment I hodl not a single Shib. Though I'm waiting for price to drop further and see if I could get in again at discount.
900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: October 02, 2023, 06:40:40 PM

Now some blockchain-explorers even mark such tokens as “spam”, that is, an ordinary user can already rely on such information and ignore them.
I honestly wish they can go extra mile to enable features that will empower us the wallet owners in preventing unsolicited receipt of tokens until we add their contract address. Something that's commonplace online where users can block/unblock who to add or not add them to groups or call them. Yes, about the airdrop example I used; it's just to let you know to what extent I scrutinize stuff like that.
