941  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Merit] Help posts in local boards that did not receive enough merits on: September 18, 2023, 08:56:33 PM
Thank you, Hugeblack for this kind gesture towards the various local boards here.

I hereby submit posts from the users (Kelward and EluguHcman) who are our latest discovery in the Nigeria Local Board, having won the most active posters on the board a few times. I give them my slot for the month.

942  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Is Bitcoin Price Increasing? on: September 18, 2023, 06:10:32 PM
3. Media : Bitcoin news, events, policy changes, etc. Journalistic events influence the price of Bitcoin.
Yes, the media do talk about Bitcoin but it's mostly in the negative sense they do. The media look set to strangulate Bitcoin growth as they're often reluctant to hype any positive news on Bitcoin but hasty to loud and expose anything negative about Bitcoin.

I guess I'm different. I'm curious how did the bears managed to keep the price this low for this long. The halving is almost upon us, ffs! (And the speed of fiat value going down we already know, I hope).
I think the whales are trying to take out liquidity to the upside by trying to push price down. It's a game they love to play whenever the market looks aligned in one direction. The sentiment is bullish. With what's happening currently, price should be heading up with the ambience of halving around the corner but why this isn't happening shows that whale strength. I don't want to call it manipulation but it isn't short of it.
943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not banned, yet not accepted on: September 18, 2023, 04:02:34 PM
In my country,  there are strict rules against local banks not getting involved in cryptocurrency transactions which simply means that the government  has banned all cryptocurrency transactions  though local banks but yet people still think bitcoin isn't banned.
In the case of our country, Nigeria, the restriction was widely circulated and many accounts that had crypto marked transactions in them were frozen that year the circular was released. The interpretation of that act from the Central Bank of Nigeria was that people should desist from engaging in cryptocurrency trading. The government took that route because that was the most it could do. It couldn't ban Bitcoin itself, so it had to ban its dealings. No government can ban Bitcoin because it's decentralized. The worse any government can do is ban dealings in Bitcoin transactions in that country. However, I guess that ban thing in my country has died down a bit now as those who are into crypto trades don't constantly get harassed anymore by the local security authorities like it used to be.

From this you can see that Nigeria government never put an official ban on the use of Bitcoin but placed a restriction on local banks. It was advices that the public who choose to use these cryptocurrency are at their own risk.
I don't know why we're scared to say that there's a ban on the use of cryptos in Nigeria. Read the second and third paragraphs in that screenshot you shared. Please, read through them once again. If you're asking if there's a ban on crypto dealings in Nigeria, the answer is yes but how effective the ban is remains a puzzle. I can say that it's highly ineffective. The only problem anyone would've trading cryptos in Nigeria now is if they include anything crypto in the transaction description for banks to see. I guess the bank will immediately flag that account.
944  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin kwoledge is not complete without bitcoin investment on: September 18, 2023, 02:20:09 PM
OP, I commend you on this. You took a bold step by putting to test your convinction and faith in Bitcoin by investing in it. That's what every Bitcoin fan should do. They've to at least own a bit of it in their own private wallet. That way, they've a basic knowledge and feel of what Bitcoin is. It's like a man who tells everyone that he's a carpenter but doesn't have a single couch at home. Let's even see it the other way round, the knowledge is the theory while the investment part is the practical. Both should go hand in hand to give a better result and increase success rate.
945  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Search For Investors on: September 18, 2023, 12:31:15 PM
It sounds kind of funny to me whenever I read stuff about projects seeking investors or teams from random folks online. Aren't genuine projects poaching their team members from reputable sources and among those who've already proved themselves capable and investors choosing their projects because they find them viable and not coerced into it? Of course, my antennas are already up as usual; knowingly that this is more likely to end up as a shitty project than it's not.

OP, you should lock up this thread to avoid further bashing and prevent others from spamming here now that your post is alleged to be false. Let the case be closed.
947  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All business need to risk, so not only crypto! on: September 18, 2023, 07:58:43 AM
Everyone says crypto Is high risk is it really true?
Yes, that's correct and it's largely due to the fact that the crypto industry unregulated at the moment. I reckon that there's no business that's without its share of risks but if the sector is regulated; there's a lot that will be checked and things won't go wrong easily. In cryptos, it's unmitigated risk because most often it's an internet thing without physical addresses to trace anyone to. So, scammers have effortlessly utilized this to deal with unsuspecting public.

My guess is less because a lot of people have had success with this crypto.
Would you mind giving us data on the level of success in percentage you think people have had in this industry? I think the percentage in success rate is infinitesimal compared to those who've lost.
948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Low cap altcoins best for rising price? on: September 17, 2023, 05:53:58 PM
Are you collecting low cap altcoins for the bull market? It sounds like you think low cap altcoins can easily make 100x profits.
Yes, low capped altcoins do have a better chance of maxing a great deal of ROI than those top listed ones. However, I don't blindly buy low caps anymore. I did the blind picking thing in the past. This day, I check for vitals in them like the total supply and utility among other things. I know things don't always work out as planned as sometimes these low caps don't realize their targets. They slump in price, and most of them end up vapourising into thin air. Nonetheless, I'm more relaxed buying them than getting top rated coins that aren't Bitcoin and ETH.
949  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in your country. on: September 17, 2023, 03:59:00 PM
    • So, in my country cryptocurrency is not banned but its transaction with banks is banned.
It's not banned but its transactions with banks are banned? So, what's the difference in all that? How can you not ban something but ban its transactions? Truth remains that the Nigerian government doesn't really know what to expect and do when it comes to Bitcoin. The
Nigerian government actually banned Bitcoin trading but since she can't control or regulate it, it's turning a blind eye and acting like she's ok with it. I believe the ban is still on, though inefficient as it's at the moment.

Hence I can say the city where I am now currently we are Bitcoin friendly, for those who wanna lodge over there can indicate interest and I drop location.
Until that fear of account seizure is completely gone, that's when I will say Nigeria is Bitcoin friendly. Until then, we aren't. If you doubt it, when next you trade on P2P, put crypto in your narration and see what happens. Of course, your guess is as good as mine.

Then the government made rules through the central bank that using and trading cryptocurrency were strictly prohibited, and anyone found to use them would be punished for that.
This must be really frustrating for you, isn't it? Does that mean you haven't got the luxury of spending your coins then?

950  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a thread where one can submit his profile for review to get merits ? on: September 16, 2023, 11:23:53 PM
Not asking to submit my profile there but to spend some spendable merits I have. I am less active here and I think my spendable merits will expire soon.
From BPIP data, you've only earned just two merit in 150 days. I don't know why you're even worried about this. What's the essence of your topic. By the way, smerit don't expire. That's if at all you've enough to spend but you barely have any now.
951  Other / Meta / Re: The comment layout is awful here on: September 16, 2023, 11:06:55 PM
Yeah, I hate Reddit with a passion.
Honestly, I thought it was an aberration not to have a Reddit account at the time I came into this crypto industry because everyone seemed to be on it but I was disappointed when I eventually got on there. For me, it's not even user-friendly. I can't remember the last time I was on that site, let alone dropped a post there.

It's a crapshoot with him--but I'd bet the house he's not going to lift a finger to act on this one.
I hope he doesn't on this request from OP. If there's anything I don't want theymos doing, it's changing the layout here. I like the ease of navigation. I've been on other crypto sites and I can say to the best of my perspicacity that BTT takes the top.

BTW, OP I don't see anything awful about the layout.
952  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If only property I have is bitcoin on: September 16, 2023, 09:39:22 PM
So I was asking myself different questions because I have no wife and no child, then I began to think and be questioning myself if it will be good to at least tell one person in my family my seed phrase or should I keep having the perso secret of my seed phrase personal or should I keep my bitcoin document on my wardrobe were they can easily see my seed phrase, that time I was of full of thinking, thank God  I recover fully from the illness before i return to forum...no sympathy
Not everyone dies from illness. So, get that off your mind. People die without notice, in accidents and emergencies. They leave their homes and don't get to return to them. Illness affords you the luxury of time to make amends. Don't worry, before your demise you will surely find the ominous signs. However, I don't subscribe to you revealing your passphrase to anyone. When you die, they will find it; provided they know you're into Bitcoin. Your room will be ransacked, trust me.

Anyway, happy to have you back to the land of the living.
953  Other / Meta / Re: ...about bitcointalk forum. on: September 16, 2023, 04:21:38 PM
    Merit fishing
You will see someone with thousands of merits accusing another person with 5 merits of merit fishing. I mean there is a merit system, it should not be a crime if anyone makes posts to earn merits in order to rank up, whether they fish for it, hunt it or the merits locate them (which is very rare.)
That type of prejudice has abated now unlike a few years ago when anyone below the legendary rank was seen as a merit beggar. I think that conception will get more blurred in time to come with merit offering threads springing up to help other users rank up.

    Bounty hunting
Bounty hunters are treated as menace in the forum. Once you are known as a bounty person, you will be treated as an anti-bitcointalk.
I guess what you perceived as hatred for them is because of the level of unchecked activities and low post quality coming from that quarters steadily. Spam posts don't help anyone. You only need to look fleetingly there to know the level of spam that goes on. Most (I want to be mild with language, otherwise I would say all) of the bounty hunters don't even make constructive posts that can aid the growth of this forum because their aim isn't to. They're mostly interested in making bounty reports.
954  Other / Meta / Re: can we use live signatures on this forum. on: September 16, 2023, 03:03:48 PM
    ~snipped~

i thought it was because the board got hacked via an animated avatar exploit back in the day (like ~2011-15?) but cant find anything with a quick search.
I don't know what the facts are. I wasn't even registered here when all that went on but I've stumbled on some monikers with animated avatars here. Some of the users who still have them are enter no longer using those accounts for whatsoever reasons or the owners are deceased. By the way, between your thought that it was stopped because it enabled "the board" (whatsoever that means) to be hacked and that loading it on the site takes enough of forum time, I think I would go with the second explanation.
955  Other / Meta / Re: can we use live signatures on this forum. on: September 16, 2023, 12:51:11 PM
Also loading an animated avatar might affect the loading speed of the forum whenever we will visit multiple thread.
I believe that's a plausible reason theymos disabled animated avatars. I guess if he monetizes it like the copper membership thing or evil fees for IP penance, there are users who will want to still go for it. I confess that I like animated avatars, anyway. I don't find any insights with the current avatar pattern. They're just bland, sitting there boringly beneath our monikers like dead pieces of items.
956  Other / Meta / Re: Is the first Merit the hardest Merit to get? on: September 15, 2023, 11:53:58 PM
Just a interesting question I started to think about.... I think it can be logical to have it harder to get Merit in the beginning before the forum learn to know you.
Actually, the first is about the easiest to get now if one isn't constantly checking time. In 2018 when the merit system was introduced we could talk about difficulty getting the first merit for newbies (and most users too) but it's not that way now with merit sources and others putting up threads to help people rank up. I acknowledge that it might take genuine newbies time to find these threads and to post in them as the usual navigation problem most of us had coming here too. However, if they do find them, just a single merit doesn't take much to give out if they've enough activities for it. Again, I've come to realize that most people find it enticing giving merit to those are at the verge of ranking up. Perhaps, it gives them satisfaction knowing they helped push someone to their next rank. So, in that case most newbies easily rank up if they aren't having just bounty reports. This is often the problem with newbies who register here and head straight to bounty hunting.
957  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be a boom again? on: September 15, 2023, 10:12:16 PM
In 2016 when I was a kid, this coin got in stuck in my mind but absolutely everyone around me was telling me to forget it, it's scam, it's online shit, I shouldn't study it and should move on something else and finally ended up working hard absolutely every day for years to migrate in Canada to learn in university and pay high tution fees.
First off, don't take advice from those who aren't or haven't been in the situation you're or seeking to know. For instance, you don't go seeking marriage counseling from someone who's not married; whether they're priests or not. I don't care whatever appendages they add to them, once they aren't married it's wrong choice for me. It's like going to seek automobile advice from someone who doesn't own a car and isn't a mechanic. Despite the depth of their theoretical knowledge on autos, it won't equate that of someone with a first-hand experience on it.

If it weren't my parents, I would invest in bitcoin in 2016-2017, I would be a millionaire today.
You should quit blaming anyone for your ineptitude and lack of decision to invest in Bitcoin then. Blame yourself. The fault is yours. Don't make anyone the fall guy. If your story is genuine and you continue to harbour this mindset of blaming others for your failure (when they clearly aren't) you won't be able to move on. The time is now again to invest in Bitcoin. You've got another opportunity.

As we all know, halving is coming. Should I invest my savings in Bitcoin? Or should I lean towards altcoins this time? Which one?
This is the same thing I observed above. You've been in this forum since 2016 and have witnessed two Bitcoin circles (from bear to bull) while you're here, yet you're still foot dragging on the issue and asking random strangers if you should invest in Bitcoin or not.

Indeed, this is cheering news coming from CZ Binance. Nobody rejects help in the time of their need, loss and perplexity; so I don't want to look at any business implications here, whether indirectly CZ stands to gain maximally from this in terms of exposure and publicity or not. I'm just happy that someone provided assist to a troubled nation. What happened in Morocco hits closer home. My condolences go out to them.
