Hahaha, je me suis posé exactement la même question quand on me l'a donné..  Grin

1865  Local / Discussions générales et utilisation du Bitcoin / Re: Frais de transaction : to the moon ! on: May 09, 2023, 05:09:11 PM

1866  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Need help with proof of concept cpu mining on: May 09, 2023, 07:50:12 AM
the hypothesis that everyone, including myself, considered most probable has come true: I am not able to make any improvements to the mining algorithm.  amen.

Yes, it was a foregone conclusion, to quote NotFuzzyWarm's first response:

I should also add that despite after more than 10 years of some very bright minds working on this <drum roll please> there are no faster/better ways to process sha 256 hashes. Doesn't mean there isn't some as yet undiscovered methods to do it but - it also means it is pretty bloody unlikely.

Certainly companies investing tens of millions of dollars in this area have not missed out on a potential 30-40% process improvement.

But the important thing is that you have been able to form your own opinion through experience, that you have tried, and tested. This is very good for you and always interesting to follow.

I enjoyed reading your topic, and wish you all the best for the future @Sha256explorer
1867  Local / Échanges / WTS 150 euros transcash pour 120 euros BTC ou ERC20/BEP20 on: May 09, 2023, 06:47:21 AM

1868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why did miners waste much block space when there is need on: May 09, 2023, 06:41:25 AM
Yes, some pools even accept to mine totally empty blocks.
The biggest pools all do this : Binance Pool, Foundry, Antpool etc...

You can search on the forum, kano has explained many times why this is harmful for the BTC blockchain and why it is stupid to accept to validate empty blocks.

Some pools refuse to do this, including kano's pool. Unfortunately, profits before the interest of the blockchain itself takes precedence for the biggest pools.

1869  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: THE FUTURE OF AI ON BTC TRADING AND MINING on: May 09, 2023, 06:37:32 AM
Artificial intelligence is on a fast track. Task that were once considered to be time consuming and energy sapping are now completed within minutes using AI. some traders sit for hours in front of their gadgets analyzing charts and studying trends yet they end up making bad trade calls, but now there are AI bots that analyses the market and places trades automatically even while you sleep.

So friends, what do you think the future have in store for BTC trading and mining?

For me there is no connection between AI and mining.

The future of mining is simply more and more efficient chips, and therefore a higher global hashrate, and of course a continuously increasing mining difficulty.

This will have the impact of leaving out those who pay expensive electricity, and limiting the possibility (unfortunately) for small miners to try their luck at solo mining a block of BTC.

I don't see how or under what circumstances artificial intelligence can or will have a direct impact on SHA256 mining
1870  Local / Discussions générales et utilisation du Bitcoin / Re: Frais de transaction : to the moon ! on: May 09, 2023, 06:23:48 AM

1871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has become un-useable. Switch to altcoins or short sell on: May 09, 2023, 06:16:51 AM
Op you should be ashamed of yourself for posting such unclear and false information on the forum.

As Cryptsafe said, your username tells us that you probably have a personal/professional interest in wanting to generate FUD.

I would never click on the link you posted, why would anyone? Your post is wrong, and is there to create FUD.
SOL and XMR are not an alternative to BTC in any way. Why do you come and talk about something you don't know anything about?
Since when XMR is a storage of value asset? What guarantee do you have that CEX will eventually accept to exchange it in the very long term given the nature of XMR himself?
Solana speaks for itself, wanting to "replace" BTC with Solana is for me an insult to BTC, no need to argue.

If you had any real knowledge of what BTC and its network is, you wouldn't go into these defeatist speeches, look at what happened in 2017 for example.
Do you think anyone is really going to trade their BTC for XMR/Solana here? Plus with 1 year to go before halving, you'd have to be an idiot to do that.
1872  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Belgrade Blockchain week 2-9 June, 2023 on: May 09, 2023, 06:07:30 AM
Yes, it's great news to finally have a credible event in the region!

I will be present for the whole week in Beograd, I look forward to seeing you all there.
I'm looking forward to hearing the views and discussing the recent hack on ETH with Michelle Wu.

I just think it's a shame to sell tickets for ETH Belgrade at that price, 250 euros is a fortune in Serbia and neighbouring countries, and it's clearly a shame to sell them at that price considering the speakers expected.
1873  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minners in Kazakhstan pay high electricity tax on: May 09, 2023, 05:55:40 AM

  • require miners to sell at least 75% of crypto earned via registered exchanges

I think this one would have a huge impact on the miners since not all miners wanted to sell their mined BTC as soon as they mined it.  Probably legislator need to discuss about this with the Bitcoin mining group and make a time frame on when they have to sell their mined BTC.

Yes, afterwards it will in theory be possible to buy back BTC sold after taxation, or from abroad if you have an associate which can do the process for you.

But it is sure that this would represent a small loss due to CEX fees and transactions fees.

For the moment this law is not yet in force, and it will not be the first time that a law announced will not be applied or really implemented. Let's wait and see.

1875  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: The downside of using Nicehash and the likes of it. on: May 08, 2023, 07:58:11 AM
I don't like Nicehash and the team behind it very much.

They do a great job for me, they pay their miners well (overall), and allow those who want to rent hashrate to be able to do so and try their luck solo with abilities they don't physically own. Good point for them.

However, they are currently losing their way in the race for profits.
Their "EasyMining" package is a scam, they charge people for hashrate rental packages at exorbitant prices, you see the auctions for these packages and the prices per Eh/s are sometimes  up to 4 BTC. Which is ridiculous when the average price is (last time I did the comparison but it fluctuates all the time) 2.97 BTC per Eh/s at this exact time.

The worst thing is that when you buy one of their packs, they show you a graph with your luck, even with 5 minutes of mining with only a few Ph/s, you will still have a bestshare of x T according to them. ALWAYS. They cheat and lie, generate potentially addictive behaviour by faking the information given to beginners, and this is worthy of contempt.

Also, they stole their Team Mining concept from Willi, and are getting fat with fees on it. (without asking him anything)

So on the one hand they pay their miners correctly. On the other hand, this is possible because they are screwing their customers who rent hashrate.
I find this borderline, and I personally don't want to support this abuse, even for 6% more from time to time.
1876  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science on: May 08, 2023, 07:47:29 AM
I just created one more API, which i believe may be useful in the recent days of crazy fees

This data is always updated from mempool.space

I will create a few more , specially about transactions ID and their details, which I believe will be quite useful too. THen I will create one more topic to properly announce all API.

This is really cool and very useful, thanks for your work and dedication dear bitmover!

I just spent some time on your site, I really like the new design.
I like the fact that the giveaway manager is listed at the top, as you know I use it regularly and before I always had to find your post with the link to find it (I never thought to bookmark it). It's really cool!

The "Local price to image" page is great!
1877  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Are you doing this as a Bitcoin miner also? on: May 08, 2023, 07:41:32 AM
Yeah there is something to be done in that sense, as you say OP.

If you, for example, bought ASICs in 2018-2019, ran them and they were already profitable, you would have made a nice profit in 2020-2021 by reselling them.
As their price is more or less correlated to the price of BTC, and therefore to the hype generated on mining, there is a chance to make a profit.

However, if you have large quantities of ASICs, if they run stably, your infrastructure is done and clean, and your electricity is cheap, it's a bit of a gamble.
Why not just let them run? They're already profitable.
Why would you want to go through the supply difficulties, the waiting time, the import costs and difficulties again?

Especially since you have no real guarantee that the price of ASICs will drop again and that you will be able to buy them cheaper. Even if bear markets always come after bulls, there is no guarantee that you will be able to find good ASICs at good prices after you sell yours.

Personally I keep everything, as long as my electricity rate allows it, I even leave old S9s running. At worst, I let them run solo like a lottery ticket, but I can't see myself bothering to ship and manage the resale of dozens of ASICs, with all the potential problems that could cause, when they are already profitable.
1878  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minners in Kazakhstan pay high electricity tax on: May 08, 2023, 07:33:55 AM
Yeah there is nothing to complain about here in terms of price per kw/h and regarding of the taxes.

I have ASICs running in several countries where electricity is very cheap, including Kazakhstan.

In the Karaganda region, we pay 0,0089 usd per kw/h excluding taxes, so all taxes included we are at about 0,011 usd per kw/h.
Stop whining, this is an extremely attractive price and I haven't met anyone who finds it unfair or too expensive.

What my associate fears is the addition of a tax on mining profits. He is afraid that Russia's appetite for crypto mining in these times will force the Kazakh government to accept the introduction of a tax which would cause a fuite of hashrate to Russia (which has a huge influence on the country politically). But this is not done, and is only speculation.
1879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The severity of the Ordinals Attack is increasing on: May 08, 2023, 07:05:32 AM
But does this action by the creatoe who established this new tech of ordinals is illegal? I mean does core devs can somehow fix this? Since the creator choose to use a decentralized platform for this idea.

What do you mean by illegal?

Bitcoin is open source, decentralised and clearly freewheeling as long as the basic operating protocol is not impacted. With Bitcoin, if something is doable, it can be done without any authority intervening. After that we all agree that what is feasible and can be done, is not necessarily good and should not necessarily be done...

I hate this Ordinals crap and the consequence it has on transaction costs and the congestion of the mempool.

But some people do have an interest in it: imagine you own a BTC mining pool, which does not pay transaction fees to its miners.
Imagine the profit you make when the fees are 1.5 BTC or more per block?!

I imagine that some industry players will fight to preserve this Ordinals crap at all costs.
1880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High transaction fees and businesses that accept bitcoins. on: May 08, 2023, 06:57:12 AM
This season where transaction fees are really high can be a discouragement for people who were already becoming used to making payments in bitcoins at their local stores that accept payments in bitcoins. For people who have businesses that accept payments in bitcoins, how are you coping at this time when transaction fees are really high, and what adjustments have you made to try to see that people do not totally cancel out making payments in bitcoins due to this challenge.

The buyer pays huge fees and could be ok with it: if you buy a car / house in BTC it's ok, it won't be too much of a trauma.
If you're buying bread and milk, it's clearly a bit more of a pain in the ass. For these small transactions, people turn (or should turn) to LN. Or basically, the seller just put on-hold BTC as payment method if he doesn't accept payments through Lightning Network.

I think that in the long run, given the mess that is the mempool on an increasingly regular basis, Lightning Network is becoming more and more necessary and justified in my opinion.

After that, if it's like every time, the 1.5 BTC fee blocks shouldn't be around for too long, hopefully it will drop again soon.
