1441  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining to my own node on: July 12, 2023, 07:43:13 PM
I will quote an excellent answer from BlackHatCoiner :

Why it is not allowed any longer to solo mine directly using Bitcoin Core wallet?
Solo-mining is always allowed by Bitcoin Core. It'd be ironic if the official release of a Bitcoin client didn't have a solo-mining option.

Open your Bitcoin Core console and type “generatetoaddress <nblocks> <address> <maxtries>”.

Example:
Code:
generatetoaddress 1 tb1qm87j39792m2afwduss7hfwqg3xxrrz2tz8yxrw 2000000000

You won't be able to solve a block, because the difficulty is incredibly high for an average solo-miner. Try creating your own hard fork of Bitcoin and then use that for solo-mining, just to see that you're allowed to do that.

Here you will find a topic related to your question :

Solo mining using Bitcoin Core wallet

Here the list of topics related on solo mining I made some months ago, you will find some links to self-hosted solo pools, and solo mining in general if you are interested in this subject :

[MEGA TOPIC] SOLO MINING

I think all these resources will give you an opportunity to do more researches and to understand the pro and coins of each solution possible

I agree with Gazeta and ScamVirus.

Privacy has a price, and in this case, I personally don't find the fees very high. Of course, it's cheaper with some other mixers. But at the same time, if you read the reports from blockchain analysis agencies and companies, Mixtum doesn't attract a lot of attention, and that's a great quality, especially when you want your coins not to be flagged. Mixtum's strategy is pretty good in my opinion.

Sinbad, one of the market leaders in the mixer's industry, attracts a lot of attention (that's why I stopped promoting their service), and I personally think that this is not to the users' advantage. Just read the latest Chainanalysis report and see how they are cited as the mixer the most used by North Korea to launder stolen funds for example. If your mixer's name appears in a lot of reports, how can you be 100% confident with the idea of mixing your coins via their service (especially for those selling them to a CEX at the end) ?  From my point of view, I'd be worried about mixing large quantities of coins via a service that gets so much notice and noise. I appreciate that Mixtum works more cleanly, and if the cost of this is a little higher than the price of some of their competitors, I don't mind.

If that's the price of having mixed and clean coins, without attracting too much attention, and in an efficient way, I personally think it's honest. Mixtum's way of working means they're safe for now, despite offering a constant service, and that's a very good sign. The way the coins are acquired and operated is excellent.

so you should know that no collateral, no loan. Sorry but nobody will lend 0.012 BTC without security to someone totally random on the internet, you are unknown here.

1447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Country rankings in "Bitcoin friendliness" on: July 11, 2023, 06:38:06 AM

They are first countries make Bitcoin legal tender but they are not first countries where people use bitcoin. The hub of Bitcoin communities is in the USA, North America and Europe and it won't be shifted to other continents, countries too quickly.

Those two legal tender countries don't contribute too much on trading volume of Bitcoin as well as bitcoin transactions but we must appreciate their initiatives to make Bitcoin legal tender. By using legal tender stories from two nations, I want to say the same about Bitcoin friendly nations.

Asia isn't non-existent either. Take Singapore, for example, which is extremely BTC-friendly, or Thailand, where BTC is widely used.
Similarly, if you look at the number of Indian users who are involved in some way in BTC-related business (even if their regulations and laws are not specifically BTC-friendly, on the contrary), I don't think we should forget Asia. What's more, it's the biggest "market" in the world.

About El Salvador, what counts is not trading volume in my opinion. It doesn't really matter. What El Salvador brings, is confidence. By making BTC a legal tender, they gave a lot of people confidence that BTC was here to stay. Likewise, they're producing some excellent innovations in the BTC mining field, and I'm convinced that sooner or later, the lead they're taking will make them ideal advisors on how to run a business model that accepts Bitcoin on a great scale.
1448  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cool mining set up that more miners should copy. on: July 11, 2023, 06:28:58 AM
So turn 100 into 300 over 300 days.  It works in a poor country.

After looking at the photo it looks like 1 s9 and 1 s17 or 65th that's about 4.50 a day.

you could but that gear if lucky as low as 100+500 = 600

300 x 4.55 = 1365 so a profit of 765

if oil = free
if generator was surplus doing nothing.

a lot of labor.

I agree, especially if you take into account the local minimum wage. I've looked, and found several sources that are a bit contradictory. However, if I take the source that gives me the highest daily minimum wage in Guatemala, I come up with 101.05 GTQ for a day of 8 hours' work, which gives me around 12.94 USD.

So 765 USD profit is not negligible, it would be like two months of local minimum wage.

Where I have a little more doubt is on the ability of these ASICs to last over time in a stable manner if they don't bother to monitor humidity.
Just as, to get the numbers mentioned above, they'd have to be able to keep them running 24/7, and I don't think that's the case.

In any case, this is further proof that in low-income countries, BTC mining can be a game changer.
1449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about paper wallets on: July 11, 2023, 06:08:54 AM
Quote
If I have a paper wallet that has .001 btc, could this be worthless in the future because when I sweep the funds the fee is so high?

Yeah, fees go up and down, depending on how busy the mempool is. They used to be high, but are now low again, between 5 and 9 sat/vB.

For example, right now :

So yes, having for example 0.001 BTC is not a problem, especially if you take into account that you can use a wallet to spend your BTC which will let you choose the fees. With Electrum, for example, you can choose a low fee and just wait for the mempool to empty out a little if they're ever high when you will want to move your BTC. Your paper wallet would be far from worthless.

Quote
How about if I have a paper wallet with .005 btc, assuming it was funded with 5 separate transactions of .001

In that case, you should generate a bech32 address to keep fees as low as possible, and in the event that you have a lot of incoming transactions on the same address, you can always consolidate this when fees are low. It's sending yourself the total amount of BTC on one address to another address you own - like that you will have only 1 incoming transaction on your fresh BTC address. (But I admit that the paper wallet doesn't make it the most straightforward to consolidate).

Auteur : GazetaBitcoin
Texte original : Governs are coming for traders!

1452  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: S9i - i managed to brick it on: July 10, 2023, 09:16:09 AM
Many thanks to everyone who helped

This unit is successfully hashing for 12 hours following firmware upgrade.

Two issues remain

1)
Overnight the "old" issue reappeared , the fans go on FULL PELT , full power
this is the issue that caused me to mess up the firmware in first place:-)
hashes fine continues working but fans seem to go full power mode ! and does
not stop until unit disconnected from power and restarted

i cant imagine this is a fan issue , can it be ? is this not a software/control board issue ?

2)
one of the hash  boards has been gubbed for months , is their a Uk repairer ?or
sales place for S9i hash boards ?
are the boards in S9 and s9i the same ?

It's cool to know that it's working again and that you've succeeded with the firmware.

1). Yeah it could be a fan issue, but I'm not sure. Are you running your S9i in good conditions? Is the room big enough?

2). Here's a list of ASIC repair centers: https://www.zeusbtc.com/RepairCenter/

I don't think there are any in the UK, but you could send it to France or Germany perhaps.

However, I don't know if the profitability of an S9i would justify such costs, I don't know if the repair would be justified.

You can always find hashboards on the internet, on ebay for example, but choose your seller extremely carefully if you don't want to receive a dubious hashboard.

No, S9 and S9i boards are not the same, and are not interchangeable.

moved position of jumper ** , this time life however red/green lights permanently on , no blinking

waited at least 3-5  mins each time

You have to wait at least 15 mins and if still doesn't work nothing changes on your miner's firmware try the exact firmware from Bitmain below

Click the drop-down arrow and look for the exact model because the link provided above is for t9 so try the s9i under the tf card service pack

As per https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019493654-S9-series-S9-S9i-S9j-S9-Hydro-Control-Board-Program-Recovery

It is the t9+-SD Tools.zip which should be used

heys thanks , Ok I can go try that in due course

but before i go further I really need to establish 101% which position for
jumper is flashing position

two pins closest to R4 or two pins cclosest to JP4

Should be closest to JP4

1454  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: S9i - i managed to brick it on: July 09, 2023, 01:22:56 PM
-You will need to remove the Control Board from the miner (remove the fans, and every cable connected)

-Once done you need to extract this : https://file12.bitmain.com/shop-product/firmware/t9%2B%20-SD%20Tools.zip on your SD card. After that, of course, you insert the SD card in the control board.

-You put the jumper in the good position as per : https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019493654-S9-series-S9-S9i-S9j-S9-Hydro-Control-Board-Program-Recovery

-You put the ethernet cable in the ethernet port of the control board

-You put the 6pin cable from your PSU to your control board

-The control board will be powered on. You need to wait at least 90 seconds for the files to load automatically. When loaded, the red and green indicator lights on the control board will blink.

-Once done, you access the control board through its IP address, and you flash the firmware you want from the Bitmain's interface (in your case, this firmware : https://file12.bitmain.com/shop-product/firmware/fbfdf7bc-ac9c-4049-abd5-92b8c6af22f0/2019/08/08/22/Antminer-S9i-xilinx-201907311618-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF-sig.tar.gz)

And that's all, you should be fine

Because I am new so I explore more.

I don't really understand what your article adds, it just advises the well-known pools for mining Bitcoin and certain altcoins.

They're common knowledge, and a simple internet search will take you there.

Quote
To mine digital currencies, users must pay exorbitant fees.

Isn't that the one and only purpose of a cryptocurrency mining pool, to mine cryptocurrencies? Why are you talking about high fees? Are you talking about minimum withdrawals?

Note- I am not sure About these platform. let me know please if any of this platform is not good.[/b]

In my humble opinion, you should never recommend any site, mining pools or not, that you haven't tried out yourself. It doesn't add any value.

New Antminer owner here and having trouble connecting to a pool.  Everything seems to be working fine, all chips are green the only sign I can see is the red abnormal connection.  The machine ramps up and kicks into high fan mode, then it shuts down a few seconds later.  It completes that process 2 times and then just runs on low fan mode and does not connect.  It seems to be a connectivity issue but I'm not sure.  Any information regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You should post this in the Mining section of the forum, more members interested by ASICs will be able to help you.

Otherwise, you'll have to give us your kernel log, because without the log we won't be able to help you to identify the source of your issue.

You can use the forum's "insert code" button when you paste your kernel log, which will be easier to read.

Effective solutions already exist, don't they?

For example, if you use PGP for your correspondence, you're already protecting your data, and you don't have to worry about self-hosting. What's more, PGP has long since proved its worth.

You can also take a look at P2P Utopia project, which has an encrypted messaging system integrated on its own network. The project is fairly new, but it's still too recent for us to have enough feedbacks on its real effectiveness in terms of data protection.

I sincerely believe that PGP is a simple, effective solution that solves all the potential problems associated with privacy and private data for e-mail exchanges.
1460  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minning on: July 08, 2023, 09:24:58 AM
If in these times, do you think it is good to do solo mining now? Honestly, I haven't tried it, because I had been thinking that it will also be seasonal. But I'm not sure if I am right about this thing, that's why I asked you.

And about nicehash do you think it's a good start to solo mining in these times while we're bullish? Thank you for the answer to my question, God bless you Wink

It's up to you to decide how much risk you're willing to take. The difficulty is very high, so solo mining is currently difficult, but we could also assume that in a long term perspective the block reward will inevitably decrease, and the difficulty will increase, so right now could be a rather interesting period.

It depends on the price of your electricity, your hashpower, your ability to pay electricity bills without getting anything in return.
Every situation is different.

You can calculate your chances of finding a block based on the block difficulty, your hashrate (rented from Nicehash or from ASICs if you have any), look at how long it would take you to solve a block, and know whether you're willing to pay the price (electric or Nicehash) of such a lottery ticket, it's up to you. In any case, it's totally random, so the probabilities calculated are only indicative. You could find a block in 10 minutes if you're the luckiest man in the world, or never find one at all.
