44801  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bi•Fury | 5+ GH/s USB Miner [FASTEST USB MINER IN THE WORLD] on: October 27, 2013, 12:58:37 AM
I don't know if you guys are aware but ASICMiner is now providing a 49 port usb hub powered by an atx psu. It comes free with a purchase of 50 AM sticks. They are shipping this week. Since its already designed to handle a direct PSU connection I imagine providing enough current for these miners wouldn't be difficult.
They require an ATX power supply with 25 amps MINIMUM at 5 volts.  That gives 1/2 amp per port with the power supply running flat out.  There are a few supplies that offer 30 amps at 5v which are a better match for a full load of erupters.  49 * .85 is just over 41 amps which would want a 50 amp supply and 10 amps per pin that I think are rated at 8 or 9.

So, while the ASICMiner hub is a good match for 1/2 amp sticks when paired with a 30 amp supply, I don't think it would be a good match for higher power devices without some creative rewiring.

I have this 20 port

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-USB-ASIC-miner-Block-Erupter-20-Port-Hub-for-Bitcoin-Mining-/111198908832?pt=US_USB_Cables_Hubs_Adapters&hash=item19e3f8b1a0

 with this psu

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GENUINE-LENOVO-THINKPAD-135W-AC-ADAPTER-FOR-MINI-DOCK-PLUS-SERIES-3-/130881117762?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item1e791f5e42

the hub came with this psu

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Lenovo-90-Watt-20V-4-5A-AC-Adapters-FRU-P-Ns-42T4427-42T4431-42T4-Genuine-/231053953156?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item35cbe38884

so 20 hubs accessing a 135 watt psu    may work okay.

works great with 20 am sticks.

figure 80%  x 80% = 64 %  of 135  or   a true 86.4 watts at 5 volts   divide by 20 =  4.32 watts a port  that is about  .864 amps per port.

the first 80% is conversion of 20 volt to 5 volt.  the second 80% is  the safe rate for 24/7/365 ops.

so that hub with the better  power brick may be safer.

20 x 5gh sticks would be a very nice piece of gear.  I can't wait until NOV 1 to order some.

I have thermaltake smart 850, single rail:
Output Specification

AC INPUT Input Voltage: 100V-240V
 Input Current: 12A
 Frequency: 47Hz-63Hz
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V -12V +5VSB
Max Output Current 25A 25A 70A 0.8A 3.0A
Max Output Power 130W 840W 9.6W 15W
Continuous Power 850W

better or worse? I am thinking that the goal is lowest wattage with highest amperage? forgive my stupidity, not an electrician, slept through shop and physics classes and way too many years ago anyways

I assume the +5v 130W is what philipma1957 refers to  saying ' most are 125W '

yeah  the thermaltake smart 850 has 2 ratings for the secondaries 5 volts at 25 amps  and 130 watts.

only one of those are correct.  since they represent different values.  5 at 25 amps = 125 watts   and that does not = 130 watts.

 newer PSU's  are 12 volt only   and then 2 dc to dc converter transistor/chips   one from 12 v to 3.3 v  and one from 12 v to 5 v.

the dc converter is more often then not rated at 25 amps.

safe 24/7/365  is 80%  or about 40 sticks.

44804  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Good price at CEX.io on: October 26, 2013, 02:14:08 PM
So i was just tapping some numbers in to http://mining.thegenesisblock.com and i might have this wrong but it looks a lot like you need a price of about 0.05 BTC per GH to turn a profit?

Am I missing something?

WHAT did you use for diff increase rate each month?

132% will not last  for more then a few months.

punch in 132% and 5 months  then punch in 132 % and 10 months.

After that try 100%   for 5 and 10 months.

then try 75%
then try 50%
then try 25%

The real question is how long before the numbers drop from 132% a month back to a more normal 10 to 30% per month.
44805  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: October 26, 2013, 01:14:25 PM
I was paid by ch today about .11 btc

my grand total of payments  = about 1.13 btc    or around 200 usd.

I put in 717 usd.  I figure all the delays and lack of payments or reduce payments from July 4 until sept was over 2.5 btc. Meaning my total coin should be 3.63 btc not 1.13 btc.   I would have been close to break even if his promises for my contract had been paid correctly.

I think I will be lucky to get much coin.

I took the 1.13 btc and grabbed more hash from cex.io   about 14 gh.

As bad as this guy has been bfl has not delivered and owes me about 534 usd  in gear since Jan 2013.

BFL and Cloudhashing = my 2 worst buys in BTC

 22 awg = melting

what gauge wire would suit?
Like most PC enthusiasts,  I have a ton of old hardware, including  PSU's... in the basement, in the attic, in the closet, in the garage, under the bed... Smiley

ALsO: I have an Antec EA-650 3 12V rails 22a,22a,24a I think, will that do it?

I know 18 gauge would be good. based on my gpu mining.

maybe 20 gauge , but not in my house on my gear as I have 6 or 7 psus with  18 gauge.

I think the antec will run 40 sticks  not 49.  Most new psu's will not do the 49 sticks.  the rating is 125 watts on most and 49 sticks = 122.5 watts.

for   safe running  you want 80%
44809  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Josh Calling us animals... on: October 25, 2013, 08:57:19 PM
So what this has to do with mining? Huh

So much anger towards BFL.  People vent here.    BFL was bad for mining and they are working hard to continue being bad for mining.

lol who would have thought the PS is a POS out of a emachines in my garage boneyard

Sometimes old junk turns out to be a treasure.

The issue is that on modern PC the 5V rail really isn't used much.  Today almost all PC convert 100% of the power from AC to 12VDC.  Then whatever is needed on 5V and 3.3V rails is converted off the 12V rail.   99% of PC never use more than 10W on 5V rail so building massive 5V rails just means added cost for no benefit.

One thing to check is the wire gauge on your PSU ATX harness.  If it is really chip thin wires (the AWG should be stamped on the wire) it may not be able to handle a high current.

says 22AWG
22 awg = melting

anyone know if there is an actual limit of usb devices per computer?   could I run 4 of these hubs connected to just 1 pc?

127 devices per USB controller including the hub etc. is the limit.

so i could only run 2 hubs per pc?

no you can run 3 with around 39- 41 sticks each  acutally pretty nice as it will get you around the issue that most modern psu's will want to run only 40 to 44 sticks.

  I got 113 sticks  on 1 pc.

careful hub planning is needed.  this would make things simple
44813  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: cex.io vs https://picostocks.com/stocks/view/19 on: October 25, 2013, 02:07:35 PM
Yeah - I just saw this morning - prices went from .85 GHS to .9 GHS - still every good.  Can someone tell me why it went up?  I guess I'll just hold onto the bitcoin payouts for now...waiting for it go down before I reinvest.

well we all know network hash rate goes up and difficulty goes up.   So a 50% difficulty rate lowers the price on your hashing gear more then a 40% difficulty rate.

So when you buy lets say 10Gh 1 hour after the difficulty change the price should be high  and when you buy  closer to the next difficulty change price should drop.

But it is not that simple.  People clock the diff rate and think it will be 30% or 40 % or 50  % .

So if I have 1000 gh at .10 and I am 4 day away from the next rate  and I think the rate will be 50%  in my mind the 1000 will drop to .05  btc

If I have 1000 gh at .10     and I am 4 days away from the next rate and I think the rate will be 30% in my mind the 1000 will drop to .07 btc

So a few days ago the guess must have been rate change would be  huge maybe 55% and lots of people dumped shares price was under .08

Now that we are 6 hours away people see the rate will be more like 42%  so price moved up.  I believe the share price of this company will be very uncertain at the half way point of a rate adjustment.  Lets say days 5,6,7  out of  the 12 day period between adjustments.

Also usd price has some meaning.  10 gh at .1 btc = 1 btc .  1 btc = 200 usd

if btc changes  from 200 usd to 180 usd  I think the gh price gets  bumped up just a bit.
44814  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [21 LEFT] GB #1 BPMC BLUEFURY USB Miner ~2.5 GH/s 0.5999BTC or less $139 Paypal on: October 25, 2013, 01:01:06 PM
Paypal is enabled again on bitcoinminerz.com theres still 21 extra units I'll be receiving when the shipment is here sometime next week.

I WENT to your site and the sticks are listed at 139.99 yet this thread has 129.99 in more then one spot.

I also typed in your discount code BTC5OFF and it does not work.

So what do you want for a paypal price.
139.99 or
 129.99 or
139.99 - 5% off = 132.99
44815  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: October 25, 2013, 12:44:42 PM
Well a lot depends on how he is trying to survive the storm.  It is funny that if he has a lot of coins he could buy into cex.io and use that hash to pay it would not even be wrong it would just be reselling at a higher price.     So for instance.

I round numbers for easy math.

lets say he has 20Th in contracts.
all platinum 20gh 1000 usd each 5btc each (btc = 200 usd)

   so 1000 contracts x 20 gb = 20th

  1000 contracts x 5 btc = 5000 btc

If he purchased all the btc paid in

   5000 btc is

55.55th at cex.io  (.09 a gh)   and my example above he has 20tb in contracts this means he could 2x every ones contract  to make up for all his missed deadlines get

to 40tb for the contract holders

and have 15.55 th  in his pocket  free hash for himself.

I could live with this.  I only hope he is smart enough to realize he could get off all legal hooks by doing the above.  every contract holder would have 2x his hash and he would have free hash.  and while we would have overpaid  I am sure most of us would settle for the above solution.  Better then zip

unless you find an older psu most quality modern psu's will run 40 of the 49 sticks.

I have a shitload of psu's on hand from my gpu mining days.

I will test   all my psu's:

 seasonic platinum 1000 watt
 seasonic platinum  760 watt
 seasonic      gold   650 watt
 corsair        gold   650 watt
 nxzt        bronze   650 watt
 OCZ        bronze   550 watt

I will test each one for a day at 40 sticks 45 sticks 49 sticks and let you all know what I get.  This means more then a week of testing

I have an older psu it is 1000 watt   can't remember the name but it is a 2008 model  My guess is it will be the best of all.

I doubt that any of these psu's will like running 49 sticks 24/7  since most  rated at  25 amp 5volt

crazy guy said he will ship to me today.   I will test the cheap psu's first since most of us would want to use an under 100 dollar psu not a 100 dollar plus one.

I'd also like to note that the usb hub price will be driven by the market and may go up on the next sale. I had intended to sell for a bit more but I am price matching here. Once the market sets a price for the hubs, I don't expect that price to move like the usb sticks.

  I sent 1.82 btc
